  1. Knocked it out of the park again, Lewis. I love the Sandman, you definitely picked some great issues.

  2. This is more like what I thought this show was going to be; synopsis, review and recommendation.

Episode 1 felt like sort of a drive-by skimming since it was a look at an anthology comic rather than a start to finish story.

  3. I think I've heard before about Sandman's trip to hell. No I promise won't spoil either but heard it was rather awesome, especially how it ended because it made a lot of sense.

Curious question, how do you manipulate things with gloves on so well? Thinking not just Moarte(apologies if I miss spell that) but Ninja Style Dancer as well.

Am enjoying the length of these and the sort of teaser nature of the stories presented.

  4. That single panel with the 911 dispatcher crying in despair because she has no more ambulances to send and the calls just won't stop coming always gives me the chills.

  5. I think you should do this again next year, but I do have a suggestion. Why not make these like once a week and stock pile them until you have 31 for next year. That way you will be ahead of the game.

  6. I wish I knew where to find that particular Sand Man. So much better than the Spider Man villian that ended up taking his name due to his more literal physical issues.

  7. After this morning, I don't know who scares me more, Moarte or AskThatGuy!!!

    1. I think Moarte is a sane being compared to him.

  8. Already loving this series, Lewis. Great concept and the Moarte character adds just the right amount of cheese to the proceedings. Looking forward to the next one!

  9. I'm reading this part of the comic and being too confused and weirded out by the imagery and what was happening to be scared. That and the art was distracting (I really don't like the artwork in Sandman and in particular the inking of it). Then again, all of Sandman confused and weirded me out to take seriously or enjoy in any fashion. Not good...

  10. And more and more am I interested in Herr Moarte. He sounds like a wonderous cross between Khan and a young Darth Sidius to me. And it. Is. Glorious!

  11. Hi there, first time commenting, but I've followed AT4W since the Warrior crossovers, and am a fan of reviewers in general.

I hope you take this in the spirit I mean it, but Longbox has rung pretty hollow for me so far, and I think I've found why. I'm not someone who thinks all reviews must be negative to entertain, though done right that can carry a video, but the presentation of opinion, analysis, explination and examination are what I tend to look for. I'll follow someone whose opinions I disagree with if they're throughly presented. Longbox so far feels to me almost completely summary/recap, very light on deeper insight, and I think that's why it's not holding my interest very well.

I'm not trying to tell you what to do, just give you a window into how at least part of your fanbase is feeling. I do rather enjoy the presentation and performance in these videos so far, and admire the ambition of the project!

  12. Personally I've always found Matt Wagner's Sandman Mystery Theater to be the more enjoyable book but maybe I'm just contrarian

  13. Is it just me, or does Moarte sound an awful lot like Lando Molari?

  14. ah yes, one of the greatest story-arcs in comic history
    period

  17. I've read a bit of Sandman, but I'm never sure what I sgould pick up with the series at times. Glad to have a recommendation to think about. That's what I'm looking forward to this special series, books that I can put on my short list to buy. This looks like a vool storyline so I'll have it on my list.

  18. Fantastic, these are a joy to watch.

The one issue with the first review is when you cut to over-panel narration your character broke down a bit... Moarte was still there but I could hear Lewis/Linkara poking through...

    Not so on this installment.

Love your closing lines, "it's better that way I think."

    Such a perfect character.

Oh definitely Ask That Guy, yes, With Onions ;)

  20. Wow, I've been wanting to read The Sandman (I'm a fan of Neil Gaiman's work), and now I definitely will! :)

(Also, I had no idea this series started off in the DC universe. I thought it was only recently added with that Lex Luthor story with Death. Huh, learn something new everyday, I guess...)

  21. Lovin' it! Moarte is loads of fun! Good to see a real heavyweight title get spotlighted with The Sandman. Any plans for a Hellblazer story coming out of the Longbox? The only story I've fully read through was Dangerous Habits.

  22. Great job on Moarte, especially his accent! I think I could listen to the phonebook read with voice acting like this! ^^

I'm still amazed by the daily video project! WoW!
Can't wait to see the rest! :)

  23. Hope you cover Saw:Rebirth even if you aren't a fan of the series.

NOW THAT is a crossover I would love to see!

  25. If you don't mind my asking...any reason you only included the second two "retrievals"?

The Constantine one never really resonated with me, partially because I've never really seen why John Constantine is that beloved a character. I don't hate him, I just don't see why other people like him so damn much. A Hope in Hell and the Dr. Destiny three-parter felt MUCH more like horror and playing around a bit with the possibilities and themes.

  27. Those were my favorite issues of the Sandman that you happened to pick.

They had Etrigan the Demon and a deal with the devil that doesn't suck.

    I love it!

  28. Hey Linkara, if the point of these reviews was to showcase how bad they are and how we are supposed to avoid reading them at all cost, then you sir, just failed. Take that as a compliment.

I am so looking forward to this month even though I don't actually read comics(yeah shame on me I guess).

LOL, that wasn't the point at all. ^_~ Atop the Fourth Wall is where the bad comics are talked about - Longbox is focusing on either the good or just curiosities.

  30. What's the correct spelling of our vampire host's name and why do I have a feeling his name would be mispronounced or given the nickname of Morty if he encounters the 90's kid or Harvey. But, than again I have a feeling that a crossover won't happen or will it ?!!. Also, Sandman has always gotten a Me Gusta reaction outta me for nostalgia purposes.

    Moarte. ^_^

And nope, he's not a vampire - just an undead ghoul.

  32. A ghoul huh, No wonder I thought Moarte was a vampire at first, since I'll admit that I don't know that much about ghouls other than they fall under the undead category.Cool concept for what Moarte is,But I gotta feelin' that if there is going to be a crossover with the story line than The 90's kid will mistake Moarte for a Zombie

  33. Wonderful choice! I'm a big fan of Sandman, and the part where he goes to hell is a favourite of mine.

I love this show so far, and I like that it gives you a chance to talk about good comics instead of just sticking to bad ones. But, I do agree with the above poster, and this is an issue with many review shows, that it's really more recap than review.

I realize these are just quick videos to spotlight good comics for Halloween, and show off your fun new character. But, maybe a sentence or two examining why these comics are good would suffice. Just a suggestion.

BTW I really hope you do Keith Giffen and Benjamin Roman's "I Luv Halloween" and Jhonen Vasquez's work like "Johnny The Homicidal Manic" and "I Feel Sick", either this year or next.

  34. is this from the new or the old trades from sandman?

  35. I understand why you can't do deep analysis, opinion and pick apart the longbox comics--because they will be 20 minutes instead of 5 minutes and you would never get them done. Besides, LotD isn't AT4W. I understand that this is a comic book answer to James Rolfe's 5 minute movie showcase that he does everyday in October. His show works as is, and so does Longbox. Keep up the good work.

  38. I've never read the Sandman series but have been curious for years!
mostly because of little trivia stuff about it I've heard! Like the one and so far only appearance of the DC universe's version of Thor!

  39. I was fortuante enought to get Vol. 1 for my birthday and I have very little complaints :)

  40. I had heard some stuff about the Sandman series, though I admit it first came from reading about the Lucifer spinoff. This is where I read the inspiration for that episode of Justice League with Dr. Destiny came from, but before this story he was just a lame B-list villain. This, in turn, I read was inspired by when in Swamp Thing, the Floranic Man becomes a global menace.

  43. Neil Gaiman is my favorite author ever, and the Sandman series is some of his finest writing. I love everything about it-the story, the art, the character development-everything.

Excellent pick for this episode-24 Hours is supremely scary. The idea that one man can do what John Dee did is chilling.

I bought A Doll's House at Barnes and Noble last night-oh God the first Incarnation of the Corinthian...those teeth...the 'cereal' Convention(I love bad puns) The first time I read it, I must not have been paying close attention, because I missed the whole 'Rose is Desire's granddaughter' plot. :P

And Morpheus dealing with Brute and Glob: He is SCARY when he's mad.
