I think I'm among the minority here in that I haven't watched any classic BSG (yet) but I've seen the revived series and enjoyed it mostly, so it was interesting hearing Linkara talk about various things in the classic series -- most of which I didn't know about, like Lucifer and the 'seraphs'. I think it would have been neat if more classic series stuff was included in the revival, although I guess Ronald Moore wanted to make it grimdark hard scifi...at least until the ending, where hard scifi pretty much went out the window from what I recall. :P don't get me wrong, revived BSG is mostly pretty good and worth watching, it just...well, like Linkara said in an earlier comment here, it has its ups and downs.

okay anyways. so that storyline bit!!! wow. I've been enjoying AT4W's story arcs pretty much since I began watching it and I absolutely love when the suspense gets built more slowly like this, and I also love the ARG-style comments here!! the fun is in trying to judge whether they're real and intentional or just people screwing around :P I'd hazard a guess that that earlier one about the mother machine was a fan-made one because of the fairly blatant SHODAN reference (although if Nimue's virus-thing turns out to be our favorite AI with delusions of divinity, or something similar, that would probably be pretty cool).

the Entity-style poems are harder to judge, but I wouldn't be surprised if those were also fan-made. I remember Linkara saying he wouldn't bring the Entity back unless he had a REALLY good idea, and it's too early to be sure, so I guess I'm remaining skeptical for now. it could also be because I don't exactly WANT the Entity to be the cause of this?? don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the Entity as a villain (even if the reveal of it being MissingNo. was pretty cheesy imo) but I think it would be cooler and subvert everyone's expectations if it turns out to be a completely new villain that we haven't seen before. or, alternatively, it could be my personal hoped-for-yet-total-longshot theory, which is that it's Mechakara, back from the dead! like I said, it's too early to tell, so why not just wildly theorize. (plot twist: it's Bear. BEEEEAAAARRRR!!!)

also, Linkara, if you don't mind, I actually have two questions for you!! one: what's the book-looking thing on the back shelf next to the old Pollo body? I'm pretty sure it's not the Absent Grimoire because it looks like THAT'S on the next shelf over, with all the teastained pages. and two: did you ever confirm the answer to that code in the Ravage 2099 review? or that anybody actually GOT the answer?? thanks!!!

okay enough rambling about storylines and tv shows out of me. thank you for the (as ever) fabulous and interesting review, Linkara, and I can't wait for next week!! the Marville reviews are always some of my favorites. :Dbookish-malarkeynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5809126056034906096.post-44850330334911969192013-07-25T16:29:10.095-05:002013-07-25T16:29:10.095-05:00It looks like Boltar has half-Youngbloods Diease o...It looks like Boltar has half-Youngbloods Diease on the coverAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5809126056034906096.post-7835809414562656242013-07-25T15:18:42.503-05:002013-07-25T15:18:42.503-05:00Since you are a Troper, Lewis, here's a bit of...Since you are a Troper, Lewis, here's a bit of Fridge Logic for you:

after his run-ins with Mechakara, Holokara AND Robo-Vyce, wouldn't Linkara at this point be Genre Savvy enough to know when something is wrong with one of his machines? He keeps talking to Niume like it was a simple gadget instead of a sentient being and he does the bone-headed mistake of leaving Pollo all alone with the clearly psychotic computer.

At this point, wouldn't Linkara know any better? Wouldn't be more in-character for him to talk to Nimue as if she were a human and try to figure out what's wrong with her, as well as cutting Nimue's link to Comicron One?

As an aside, what's with all this Entity talk? Are you telling me it's just a coincidence that Nimue went psycho right after the Gunslinger and his backstory was introduced? It's obvious to me that the overlords of the Gunslinger's home dimension (who also happen to be the people that the Executor answers to, and by proxy the true masterminds behind the events of "To Boldly Flee") are the ones who tampered with Nimue and made her go crazy.

Also, the new "Battlestar Galatica" show (ie. the more popular and sucessful one, and the one most people think about when they hear the words "Battlestar Galactica") is about man-made robots who go apeshit and turn against humanity. And Linkara is reviewing a "Battlestar Galactica" comic...right at the time when Nimue, a sentient man-made computer, is going apeshit and turning against Linkara. Also, Pollo is right about how Linkara tossed that tech like that.
I don't want Jaeris's computer to be used to help solve Nimue's problem. Like linking together in a scan of some kind. I was - and still am - a huge fan of the show. I know it has its faults, I know its a bit cheesy by today's standards, but there's a lot to like about it, too. I have to admit I was a little worried about how harsh you'd be on the show itself, so the first thing I want to say is, thanks for giving it the respect it deserves.

I love that, for once, I really know the source material well, and picked up on some things (like the 'planet Starbuck' line) moments before they were mentioned. I've collected a lot of stuff related to the show, including novels that continue the story... but never any comics. I don't think they were ever available here so it was nice to see that, well, I'm not missing much.

I especially enjoyed the 'time for backstory' segment - perfect! In one of the novelizations, they describe what Apollo saw in the crashed ship. It actually spoiled it for me - I'd built the mystery up so much in my imagination, that any explanation was going to be a disappointment, much less the unimaginative one in the book. Another thing that really stood out to me in the review - the Baltar and Iblis voices. You really nailed it.

As for the light-beings, I've seen them referred to as Seraphs frequently in fandom and fan-fiction, so possibly someone involved in the show has called them that at some point - I'd like to think it came from a source closer to canon than this comic.

Leor, the image of a Cylon Greek Chorus had me in stitches. Someone at a con actually asked John Colicos what Baltar does all day on that throne when his back's to the camera. His response - "Well, it's perfectly obvious. He reads Marvel comics all day long."Blackcat325noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5809126056034906096.post-17552290530804791322013-07-24T02:30:54.225-05:002013-07-24T02:30:54.225-05:00Good episode like always.
