Yeah, I've pretty much abandoned the idea of the Atop the Fourth Wall book. No guarantee of sales... plus I do get money every time you guys view these (more from Blip than Revver), so watch to your hearts' content!

ReplyDeleteWhen I was a very little kid, I mean single digits, Crossover events were really big in mainstream comics.
And so what would happen is I'd buy Spider-Man issue 292 or something, and it'd be the beginning of some big storyline, and leave Spidey in some terrible position.
Then, the next time we were at the store, I'd buy Spider-Man 293, thinking that of course the next issue is going to continue the storyline, only to find out that a whole new storyline was going on and the story from the previous issue had been continued in West Coast Adventures.
And since I was really little, I never really figured it out, and kept making the same mistake of thing sequential issues of the same book would be related in some way.
Also, apparently nothing ever happens in Titans #1. That was another thing that bugged me when I was little. I wasn't enough into comics to subscribe to them; I just bought them when my parents were in the grocery store, so very, very often I wouldn't buy to sequential issues.
I guarantee you if this had been out when I was six I would've haplessly bought it, and been pretty much ripped off.
This kind of bullshit is exactly why kids don't read superhero comics anymore.
Well, there are a number of reasons why they don't anymore, although companies seem to be making better inroads to getting younger kids into comics again. There's no one reason why they don't, but I sure as heck wouldn't want to hand a little kid this comic nor the Titans East Special, since I don't want to have to explain to a little kid why there's nakedness or the sex from the Titans East Special.
ReplyDeleteAnd Nate... maybe. ^_~ But that's a loooong ways off, and there's always rights issues with the NON-comics stuff I put in for joke purposes. Besides, if I can make money by having them up for free, so be it. Since I shoot most of this stuff myself, there's not much in terms of a blooper reel or anything as an extra. ^_~
Oh, and you said taking bad comic suggestions.

ReplyDeleteHmmm, WoW comics sound like they have potential, but as long as we are talking non-superhero stuff: Dragonlance. Seriously. Probably the worst I have personally read. Actually, forget that, it is probably better you do not. I think over-exposure to pure, uncut fantasy bullshit might be fatal.

ReplyDeleteOh, I only read the first few issues of the comic for the first book. Er, Dragons of Autumn Twilight I think. I have no idea what the others are like, I gave up to save my brain. The fun part is that the movie actually manages to be worse. I mean, the source material is pretty poor, but everything else associated with it is like a step-by-step lesson plan in failure.
ReplyDeleteI would go with whichever issue the tavern chick decides to join the party as the armor she dons to do it is pretty much the most terrible outfit I have ever seen in a comic ever. Ugh, I wish I could tell you which one that is but my Google-fu is failing me hard and I deleted the comics from my hard-drive ages ago. I will try and get back to you on that later today, I guess.
Man, all I know about the TT is from the Cartoon Network show.

Also what's the deal with the Hellboy looking guy and the female version of Slade/Deathstroke.

ReplyDeleteThere have been four Robins. The current one in the comics is Tim Drake, whereas the one who became Nightwing is Dick Grayson. On the Teen Titans cartoon, they left it deliberately ambiguous as to who it was, but most of the stuff related to it revolved around Dick Grayson as Robin.
ReplyDeleteThe Hellboy looking guy is Red Devil, formerly Kid Devil, and formerly Blue Devil's sidekick.
The girl who looks like Slade is his daughter, Rose Wilson AKA Ravager. I'm still kind of grumbly about her character turns as of late.
It wasn't actually that ambiguous, in one particular episode of the Teen Titans cartoon, a weird comical double of Robin appears from an alternate dimension who's name is Dick Grayson spelled backwards.
ReplyDeleteAlso there's a "Travel to the future" ep involving Starfire, and in that timeline, that Robin becomes Nightwing.

Speaking of the cartoon, it looks like the replaced the old Raven's personality with the cartoon one, who actually was really surly and grumbly. Maybe they where trying to snag some of the fans from the cartoon.

My older brother had alot of the old Teen Titan comics. Unfortunatly, he left for North Carolina BEFORE I devolped more of an interest in reading them! WOE!

ReplyDeleteWhile I agree with pretty much everything you've said here, I must point something out concerning Raven.
ReplyDeleteWhen Geoff Johns was writing the Titans, he also had the artist (Tony Daniels, I do believe) draw Raven wearing a thong or thong-like underwear. This is not a recent development. Check out the issue where Raven gets her tattoo for more proof. I wish the artists would stop forgetting she has one though, that's kind of pissing me off.
I'm well aware of it. It bugged me there, too.

ReplyDeleteYou know, rewatching this after the whole "Cry for Justice" thing does give this review a harsher in hindsite thing. Of course, the nostalgic feeling part does feel like a bit of unintentonal forshadowing as why he reviewed it. It's actually kinda sad, now that I think about it. Such a waste of a good character.
ReplyDeleteOf course, this episode is still as entertaining as it was when I first saw it, and it does feel good watching after shoveling the driveway all day today.
Speaking of nostalgia and nudity, the only Titans comic I ever read was The New Teen Titans #1 back in the 80s. Never read it again, as which American comics they had in the shops was always pretty random, and rarely could you get the same one two months in a row.
ReplyDeleteAnway, I'm pretty sure Starfire got naked, or at least got her boobs out in that one too. Something like that being in a comic sticks in a 10-year-old's mind.
So it isn't exactly anything new or particularly out of character.
I watched the Cry for Justice review some time before this one...

Oh man, I hate it when they spread a multi-character story that could've been told in four lines of an editorial caption into a 20 page mess, that really turn a comic into something that tires you out while you're trying to read it!
