HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA WHAT?
"Most of the great graphic novels are gone, and 'Youngblood' is one of the few comicbooks left with tentpole potential," Ratner told Daily Variety. "It was a real personal passion project for me, and a lot of people wanted ('Youngblood'), but the amazing thing about the guys at Reliance is the speed with which they're able to move."
Well, it's official: Brett Ratner is either an idiot or insane.
Or possibly a robot duplicate.
Because no one, NO ONE wants a Youngblood movie outside of the year 1992. And NO ONE would call "Youngblood" one of the greatest graphic novels of all time.
Wasn't Ratner the guy who ran the X-men series into the ground?
ReplyDeleteHOW COULD YOU BE SURPRISED?!
Oh my god! How? WHY? What have we done to deserve this? Tons of great (or just decent) graphic novels out there and they picked Youngblood... geez, wtf?
ReplyDeleteCould this be so bad that it gives moviegoers Youngblood's Disease? :P
ReplyDeleteThere's a ton of great graphic novels that you turn into movies.
ReplyDeleteOff the top of my head I can name a few: Sandman, Bone, Terminal City and Moonshadow. Heck, you also have plenty of other options if you want to make a movie out of a Image comic. You have Gen 13, Wildcats, Astro City, Leave it to Chance and The Maxx.
I have a strange respect for Brett Ratner, ever since the day he told Joel Silver, who he saw out with his chlidren at Canne one year, "Hey Joel, nice looking kis you got there. Look just like me."
ReplyDeleteThere folks is a man who GENUINELY DOESN'T GIVE A DAMN.
I think he's probably a robot duplicate since this whole thing sounds Illogical for any human to want to do, also Linkara aka Lewis is awesome.
ReplyDeleteThank the lord. Anything to keep him away from X-Men. If we could somehow manage to get Jeff Loeb and Liefeld himself wrapped up in this film, we could save the comic industry altogether.
ReplyDeleteI actually liked X-Men 3. It's not as good as the other 2, but it wasn't anything like Batman & Robin. Still, why would they feel the need to make Youngblood into a movie....period? Who knows? As long as I get immunized for Youngblood's Disease, Make Mine Linkara !!!(because I am a man!)
ReplyDeleteBased on your review of Youngblood #1.....it can't be worse than the comic. Since one of the major factors in the comic being bad (not the only, by any stretch, but a big one) is the fact that the art is terrifingly bad. Sooo....there is a chance the movie will be an improvement on the concept. Unlikely? Yes. Possible? Probably not.
ReplyDeleteWell, I was going to point this out to you, but it looks like you found it on your own.
ReplyDeleteWhat run of the series are they adapting? Because I heard Alan Moore's run wasn't so bad. In fact, it sounds like it got cancelled before it could get really good. One idea that didn't see the light of day was a planet devouring entity called "the Goat." Doesn't that sound awesome?
Knowing Ratner, though, they're probably adapting the stories you've made sport of. Do you think they'll have the actors wear special contacts to make it look like they have NO EYES?
Youngblood? Seriously? It's not going to be like a Troma movie or anything?
ReplyDeleteYikes. Just yikes.
My biggest fear is if this is a hit and they wanna make a sequal, Ratner will notice the whole Babewatch mess.
ReplyDeleteLest we forget, Ratner alternated with McG as director on the JJ Abrams "Krypton never exploded, Lex Luthor is a Kryptonian, the Supersuit is a living thing in a can, and everyone knows kung fu" script for SUPERMAN RETURNS, and was one of its loudest boosters. So it's not ike the guy has anything resembling judgment.
ReplyDeleteOh I bet the heaping mass of suck hasn't even BEGUN. I predict that the final product will be a movie directed by Brett Ratner, based on a comic book by Rob Liefeld, starring Dane Cook, Greg Kinnear, Kevin Costner, and Jessica Alba, with a soundtrack by Will.I.Am.
ReplyDelete...And somehow Donald Trump will find a way to force himself in it.

ReplyDeleteDon't forget script by Jeph Loeb!
If that actually happened, Ratner would give the world a new "best bad movie ever", replacing "The Concord: Airport 79". But you just know it'll suck without being the funny variety of suckage.
Aside from Rob's bad writing and artwork, Youngblood is just a generic government-run superhero team. You can probably manage to make a decent enough movie out of that. Does it deserve a movie? Hell no. Could the movie be better than the comic? Nowhere to go but up, really.
ReplyDelete...."TENTPOLE POTENTIAL?"
ReplyDeleteUh, wow.
It could be worse. It could've been a Doom's IV movie starring Jaun-Claude Van Damme. :P
ReplyDeleteI think Bret Ratner is broken. I think he's realized how shitty he is so as to not own his own shit he just decided to go right to the bottom of the shit pile where he couldn't possibly make something any shittier!
ReplyDeleteoh my GOD, Lewis you'd better start working on a vaccine for Youngblood's disease, cause Hollywood is going to need it real soon.
ReplyDeleteI was totally surprised. I mean, I didn't think this was exactly a well known series. I think it'd be like making a film of Sultry Teenage Super Foxes or The New Guardians.
On the plus side there's absolutely no way he can screw it up like other stuff he's done
ReplyDelete*cough* X-Men 3 *cough*
If it does make it off the ground, my money says they'll try to make it something contemporary like "Wanted". But that's as far as my money will go with something as dumb as this.
Better this than they make a movie about a good series and ruin it. Fantastic Four anyone?
ReplyDeleteI think that Ratner got a concussion when he ran X-Men into the ground : P
ReplyDeleteWell, it's been several years since this news, and I think we can all rest easy in the knowledge that this never happened. We struck a major blow against Youngblood's disease. Now, all that's left is to make sure Rob Liefeld and anyone trying to mimick him never picks up a pen again.
