Neutro #1

He doesn't have a brain! He doesn't know the difference between right and wrong! Not Neutro, mind you, whoever thought this comic was a good idea.

  1. Dark age? isn't that more considered the Modern age ushered near the mid eighties, Or were you refering to the dark age, as the nineties grim and gritty, watchmen after birth phase?

  2. i love it when Doctor Insano makes a cameo!

  3. Great review! Hope we see more cameos from Spoony in your upcoming reviews.

  4. That was quite the episode Linkara. Dr. Insano appearing, a shape-changing robot that is tested out on countless innocents and is still considered a force of good, pointless pages of exposition...this episode had it all!

Seriously though, why didn't the aliens just use their Neutro bots to take over the world hundreds of years ago?

  5. I love it! I think this is definitely one of your better reviews. Keep it up!

  6. awesome!!!(<-- that is you lol). That was a great review, the jokes were briliant as always... Wal-Mart XDD

I really can't pick out my favourite part, it was pure win!

  7. Curse that Doctor Insano. Linkara continue your reign of awesome!!

  8. Somehow I just knew that panel with Neutro riding a whale would hit a cord with you. This comic needed a lot less exposition and a lot more whale riding. Very funny review loved the return of Dr. Insaneo.

I noticed that your history lesson didn't mention the Iron Age.

Hey I realize you got a full slot of reviews on your table (what with the Amazons Attack extravaganza) but did you decide if you were going to do one on those Mighty Crusaders comics I sent you?

    ReplyDelete
  9. So far no, sorry. ^^;

    ...Which one's the Iron Age?

    ReplyDelete
  10. The Iron Age can be considered the stretch of time which started off with the publication of New Teen Titans #1 in 1980 and ended in 1989. It encompasses the rise of crossover-events, serious books like Watchmen, a boom in independent publishing and the general decline of some of the genre books that were popular in the Bronze age (Master of Kung-Fu, etc.)

If you're looking for an exact end of the iron-age, start of the Dark age cornerstone I would recommend the publishing of Legends of the Dark Knight #1 in 1989. When DC printed alternate versions of the issue's cover they inadvertently started a collector's craze for variant editions. This lead the way for the fad of gimmick covers.

No hurries on the Mighty Crusaders. It's always nice to have some Silver Age crack to open on a rainy day.

  11. Yeah, I consider 1985 the start of the Dark Age and everything prior to that Bronze Age, soooo there you have it. ^^;

  12. So many Orange Boxes! Wow, Pluto must really hate Portal or something.

    *dodges sudden flying produce*

BTW, I believe the Iron Age began after CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS. Don't know when it ended, but I could hazard a guess that it was the same day YOUNGBLOOD #1 was published.

  13. Hahah, Doctor Insano strikes again with SCIENCE! May awesome ( that's you, Lewis) always prevail. Also, have you seen that Sims comic of "Doctor Insano vs. Linkara" on The Spoony Experiment website? It was a nice quick read.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yup, I've seen it. Not sure where I got a goatee from. XD

  15. Not to get in all geeky debate wise but eh... I think 1985 is waaaay too late to be the end of the bronze age. By that point Steve Gerber, Neal Adams, etc had already declined in influence.

Also a little too early to be the start of the Dark Age as you really didn't have the speculator bubble building yet. But eh... that's just me. I think the 80s period was unique enough to warrant it's own age.

  16. Why does Dr. Insano need to overpower the military if he is the president of the US?

    ***Continuity Alarm***

    ReplyDelete
  17. Well, he is insane, after all. Plus there's all those other armies in the world. ^_~

    ReplyDelete
  18. I will give you that but...he says Your army now I am just assuming you are American.

Not sure on the exact quote so I could be wrong still.

This is just goofing around your video was great and perhaps your best yet, I love the history lesson :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Well if you loved THAT history lesson, wait until next week's Amazons Attack Prologue! ^_~

    ReplyDelete
  20. Doesn't know the difference between right and wrong?

Then he's just ahead of his time. He'll fit in perfectly to the Dark Age.

Size changing eh? Most be a relative of Jet Jaguar

With Neutro "Whale Rider" might have had a wider audience.

Continue to protect the city of um, I don't know "Hatopolis" or wherever you are...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Is this the start of a AVGN v NC style battle?

Hmmm.... I think the "adventures of Dr Insano" might be your next comic book project Lewis.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Great! I was looking forward to your Amazon Attack review.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Great review as always dude. I think you've slowly become my favorite reviewer on the net.

I can't wait for Amazons Attack:)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Dude, I like the history bits to learn stuff about comics that I didn't know. I laughed more at watching this video than I can ever recall laughing in such a short time! So until civilization realizes Thunderstrike wasn't that bad, Make Mine Linkara!

  25. For those curious the uncredited artist of Neutro #1 has been pointed out as Jack Sparling who created the original Secret Six for DC and a frequent artist at Dell and Goldkey.

    The writer is still unknown.

Other unsuccessful attempts by Dell comics at jumping on the Superhero bandwagon include Nukla, Brainboy, and a really weird set of books re-imagining Dracula and Frankenstein as superheroes.

  26. lol love the Hitchhikers Guide joke and the rest was great.

    ReplyDelete
  27. So I guess you and Dr. Insano are officially archenemies by now. Does this mean we'll get to see a "Final Battle" video between you two sometime in the distant future?

By the way, what's with the Silver Age hate? Sure it was bizarre and ludicrious to the point of parody, but it was still an important era of comics, and besides, it eventually led to DC: The New Frontier.

    ReplyDelete
  28. This is great. The silver era truely was the deepest era of insanity.

    Can I suggest a comic?

    ReplyDelete
  29. You of course may suggest a comic. ^_^

And what Silver Age hate? XD

    ReplyDelete
  30. Great review. Cool to see the Charles Barkley coin pop up again.

Speaking of coins, though, remember your review of US-1? Remember the villain from that comic? The Highwayman? Well just take a gander at this link and either scream in terror or laugh as the madness take over.

  31. Oh, Linkara, you're such a badass. :D

You know, if the robot can be put together and disassembled, wouldn't all of the abuse put on him eventually, at least, unscrew one of the bolts holding him together? Or am I just an idiot, trying to bring logic into the Silver Age?

    ReplyDelete
  32. A laughed so hard! Absolute genius!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I don't hate it, it just scares me. It was like a black hole, sucking in all intelligence.

You have to review Peter Parker: Spider-Man volume 2, number 18. This issue saw the resolution of who was Green Goblin V. Who was it? A clone (as if we needed to be reminded of the clone saga)! Not only a clone though, but a clone of no one. The clone then dissolved, despite having been solid for months (no reason given for this). Just thinking about it makes me want to puke, it's the worst single issue to ever come out of that comic.

This was the issue that saw Peter sleep on the street, saw his Spidey costume get stolen with out his spider sense alerting him (no reason given) and saw Flash Thompson and Liz Allen act like a pair of out of character assholes. This was a two parter, and while their is a ton of stuff to rip into in the first part, the second...oh God.

  34. Hi Linkara.

I just want to say that your stuff is some of the best that I have ever seen. I particularly love this video, although my favorite is "Sup--Bearded Idiot: At Earth's End"

With that said, I have a request. "The Punisher Kills The Marvel Universe" by Garth Ennis. It reeks of suck. All it is is mindless violence, and some of the ways that the heroes get taken out is ridiculous. And I think that some of them were out of character.

What do you think, Linkara? Have you read it?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I've read it and yeah, it does suck. Not sure if I really want to do it or not, though.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ya gotta admit though, Neutro: The Musical or even Neutro: The Rock Opera or something would be pretty freaking hilarious.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well, I've always considered the 90's to be the Brass Age. You'd need a lot of brass to release books like the Clone Saga and Youngblood #1.

And Artimus's comment brings to mind the Shogun Warriors comics. If you want to review a manga, why not start with a bad Western attempt at a mecha series. Really, they're bad.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Coming in pretty late I know, but I just wanted to let you know I completely cracked up at that Marvin the Paranoid Android impression, and the whole ending sequence. Awesome indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Wow, Neutro has got to be the worst comic from the Silver Age. That's nothing compared to the Dark Age (mid 80s to late 90s or 2000) and some lousy stories from the past decade or so.

Loved the review on Neutro -- especially the end, where you use that magic coin from Godzilla vs. Barkley to fight Dr. Insano and Neutro. Definitely one of my favorite reviews.

    ReplyDelete
  40. The art is just as amazing as the storytelling is bad. You can tell it was done by an out of work "illustrator" that didn't care, so long as the check didn't bounce.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Sorry, I know its an older video, but watching them all again for my continuity project and this one with the orange boxes just got to me.

"Don't open those things man! GLaDOS will lie about cake and the Black Mesa will release the Combine on us all!"

    ReplyDelete
  42. Keeping Neutro safe would have been easy.

Two words, Faraday Cage! With one of those in place the only way they could take him over is putting their transmitted inside the cage first!
