One of the really good parts of the movie was, in fact, the intro. Very well done, IMHO, and it seems the company that created these opening credits was kind enough to post them online. As such, enjoy:
See, this is something everyone can agree on. I knew from the start that they'd never be able to squeeze the entire backstory of the comic into the movie, and I was so afraid they'd end up butchering it purely out of time constraints. But thankfully they found a creative and rather elegant way of presenting the entire historical background of the comic without compromising it significantly.
Saw this movie on the midnight release. The theater was haveing technical problems and at first they showed a blank screen with no audio. My friends and I made the joke that it was a all a big plot by Alan Moore to prevent hollywood from making any more movies based on his work. Luckily the problems were resolved and we got to see the film.
I have to admit, this was amazing. It was the best way they could fit the back story into the movie. Two problems: One: I thought is was a bit silly that Mothman was committed while still in uniform. And two: Was it ever implied that Comedian was responsible for the JFK assassination? Or did that replace the plot about him being hinted to have murdered Hooded Justice?
Ye gods that was awesome. I would dearly love to explore that whole Minutemen period of the Watchmen universe, and this took us on such a whirlwind tour of it that I was absolutely stoked by the last shot of the opening credits.

As I recall they were both in there, but the JFK connection was much more subtle. The Comedian was said to have been in Dallas, Texas (ostensibly as Nixon's bodyguard) at the time of the JFK assassination. Personally I think this is the one big flaw of the opening sequence. Not only does it remove the ambiguity, it promotes the ridiculous "second gunman on the grassy knoll" theory.
Other than that, though, it's an excellent opening.
