wait! Wah?? Where does this intro go in the timeline? Weren't you supposed to be kidnapped in someone's house?? is this before? after? or is was it all in an alternate reality? My brain hurts X_x
Ok I'll shut up now XD, and I officially hate DareDevil for being so emo XD
Actually, having been to Vegas several times (don't ask) I can testify that there are newsagent shops in the casions that regularly carry ALL of the papers from major cities.
The idea is that a lot of people come to Vegas on business (hahaha) or as part of business conferences and will want to keep up with their daily papers back home.
Washington Post, New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, etc. are all readily available in Vegas.
On the other hand... if you think THIS story arc was bad the next one that they plugged at the end of the comic was called "Dead Man's Hand" and it was even MORE of a stinker. Made ZERO sense and if you think DD's internal monologue was bad wait till you read Nomad's.
Hrm, I didn't think the "fake recap" was quite so funny the second time around. The only part I found particularly funny was the TV Tropes reference, and part about the bear. Other than that, it just seemed kind of "we've already seen this before" and felt forced.
Early indeed. No complaints about that, especially since it was an awesome review!
Btw, I have to second that about Ecco The Doplhin though (like no other game ever or since, and I'm still debating if that's good or bad though). Neat reference to it though.
So until Daredevil catches onto the Surgeon General's plan to put warning labels on comic books, Make Mine Linkara!
Actually the NY newspaper in Las Vegas isn't odd. It is very common. Some big places that sell papers will have ones from other regions. International ones aside, you can live in Florida and get a copy of that day's New York Post, as an example.
But point taken still, as it wasn't a wide known thing then when this odd comic was printed.
Is it just me, or does the surgeon general look like an evil version of the Sunbeam bread girl?
And kudos for getting the chick to appear in the "Previously On..." segment. Any hope that you can get the Critic (or That Guy, or Chester A. Bum) to appear in a future one?
Funny, I was reading up on the Broken Aesop, and noticed your quote there. Anyway, I think #305 is worse, since it was more forgettable. These both suck though. Also, the Surgeon General should just Cut Lex Luthor A Check. I also noticed you put in the Trope Namer for the Magnificent Bastard.
An evil Night Nurse, what a great ideia... Seriously, who wrote this? A drunk Manatee??? But in fact, I see that one of the worst things in the script is something that sometimes happen with DD, the writers abuse his supersenses so much, that comes to the ridiculous point to transform him into a freaking synesthesic... A terrible comic that, at least, served for a fun video!!!
"Who needs Playboy when you have echo location!" Ha Ha. That was a good Ecco The Dolphin reference you made when you mentioned the flaws with Daredevil's Echo location senses. I used to play Ecco: The Tides Of Time a lot on the Genesis back in the day. I liked to eat fish and jump through psychic teleportation rings. Of course I found the game too hard when I went into the future and had to stay on a half pipe with a giant squid knocking me off. That's why I played Sonic 2 more(but even that was really hard).
I gotta admit man. The opening "last time" gimmicks are really grating on me. It feels like most of them are a lot of inside jokes running among you and the other vbloggers at "That Guy with Glasses." I ended up skipping most of it to get to the review.
I liked the review. It wasn't your funniest, but it had some good sharp witty lines. As an artist I'd like to see more attention paid to the bad art. It would be nice to see some comics by a bad artist. Most of your reviews have decent or passing art with some horrible little moments. It would be nice to see a review of a book with art akin to something like artistic diarrhea.
Once again, your review was good, but I felt you lacked your regular energy. Still, good review.
Off-topic, but, Linkara, what did you think of "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?" Did you think it was better than, "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?"
I still prefer "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow," but it once again shows how some creators understand characters better than others. Neil Gaiman understands Batman more than Frank Miller these days, certainly.
Also, good to see more focus on Bruce Wayne's mother - usually it's all about daddy.
I haven't really finalized my view which is the better story, but I feel that the second half of "WHCC" falls a little short (but still has a good wrap up) from it's first part, while "WHMOT" was great all the way through.
My favorite scene was the Legion's final salute. Ohhh, such a sad, creppy, and sinking moment. It really sells the that this story is really the end for Superman. "Goodbye, Superman we...we always miss you," really is a beatiful line.
I think what i most like in WHCC is the end... (yeah, we starting to spoiler here), when the batsignal transforms into baby Bruce... That end is very cool and too much symbolic. Deah and ressurection... Of course we all know Bruce will come back, but is a little more than that...
I agree with Lewis when he said that was really good that Gaimn focused on Bruce's Mother instead of the father (wich always is more seen in these "ghost of your parents" scenes...)
And yeah, Gaiman is more tuned with Batman than Miller. Miller is losing the grip, even Spirit he totally screwed up...
But yeah, What ever happened with the man of tomorrow is greater than this two issues. I think it's because Moore could work the last days of Super, creating an epic confrontation with the terrible super enemies... but Gaiman only made with Bruce already dead, and this kind of "carnival of last salute", that remind me a dream... or Sandman's death...
Gaiman relly did a good job showing the true essence of all the different versions of Batman. Batman never gives up. While other heroes do the same, its different for Batman. He can't give up. He can't and will not allow criminals get away with crimes. Its both his blessing and curse. He may capture crooks, but it will never bring back his parents.
The ending seemed more of a metaphor than an actual literal ending. Batman, like all great heroes and legends, will never die.
It seems Spider man is really famous in Japan, but not in a good way. Criminals loves his costume for crime. The 56-year-old resident was arriving home at about 10:20 a.m. when he saw “a man that looked like Spiderman jump out of my house,” and immediately called police. Upon arrival, police officers found 27-year-old Tetsuya Fujisawa changing clothes in a car parked in front of the house, and arrested him on the spot on suspicion of attempted robbery.
The sad thing is, I'm already seeing things that they could have done with this concept. First... no, second to come to mind: One or both of our heroes actually being rendered unconscious and nearly operated on. As depicted on the cover. And now I'm getting ideas for how *that* could play out. As to what actually happened... all those helpless victims and knives and no one thinks to take a hostage... and...
...but if it were any good, it wouldn't be here. Congratulations on being quoted.
Wah? Early?
ReplyDeleteAw dude. Where did TVTropes use your quote?
ReplyDeleteRight here. And yeah, early. Next few days are going to be hectic for me so we're getting it out early. ^_~
ReplyDeleteNow that was a great way to kick off the week!I personally love how absurd the "last time" sketches get.
ReplyDeleteIs it just me, or do those scalpels look like something a Klingon would use?
Great episode as usual!
Makes sense.
ReplyDeleteAnd was that Ecco the Dolphin I heard earlier?
That was indeed Ecco the Dolphin!
ReplyDelete...Man that game pissed me off as a little kid. The flying Dolphins from the second one warped my mind, though. O_o;
Oh believe me Linkara, Tv Tropes has used much more of your quotes. At least 8 more I think. Yes, I am that in love with the site.
ReplyDeleteAnd how is Neutro still alive? Could it be.....SCIENCE?!
*DANGER!! TV TROPES IS BAD FOR YOUR FREE TIME! GO THERE IF YOU DARE!*
*Continuity alarm*

Huh, no Radar Secret Service references? No particular reason, but it would have been very cute.

Funny video! Kutter....! Oof! LOL!
Not one but two quotes

Go Linkara!
TV Tropes used one of your comments?! SWEET! You're moving up in the world!
ReplyDeleteThis review reminds me of Bill Corbett's quip on the Rifftrax commentary for the Daredevil Movie.
"Being Blind, Physics no longer applied to me."
Is it just me, or does the surgeon general look like an evil version of the Sunbeam bread girl?
ReplyDeleteAnd kudos for getting the chick to appear in the "Previously On..." segment. Any hope that you can get the Critic (or That Guy, or Chester A. Bum) to appear in a future one?

ReplyDeleteTV Tropes Ruined My Life!

ReplyDeleteInstead of posting individually every single TVTropes incidence, here's a list:
ReplyDeletehttp://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/bodysearch.php?term=linkara&spaced=Linkara
A few of them have been removed and the search apparently hasn't caught up, but most of them are current.
This issue had Frank Miller rolling in his grave... oh wait we're not that lucky yet.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on TVTropes using one of your quotes.
One more question: Who is this Nomad that the preview for next issue mentions?
"Who needs Playboy when you have echo location!"
ReplyDeleteHa Ha. That was a good Ecco The Dolphin reference you made when you mentioned the flaws with Daredevil's Echo location senses. Hey, did you see the US 1 reference in the latest Ghost Rider (#34)? I think somebody at Marvel much watch these videos!
ReplyDeleteYeah, dude, US 1 was totally referenced in Ghost Rider:

Hey, i got a question. When it comes out will you do a CI5P for BATMAN: Reborn?
ReplyDeleteIt seems Spider man is really famous in Japan, but not in a good way. Criminals loves his costume for crime. This video appears to no longer work. Sadly. I was doing a watch from the beginning again and...well, yeah.
ReplyDeleteJust a heads up.
I feel like you need to quit doing not that-bad-comics and focus on more things like the Kool-Aid Man.
ReplyDelete"I feel like you need to quit doing not that-bad-comics and focus on more things like the Kool-Aid Man."
ReplyDeleteThen why are you responding to an episode with a really bad comic from two or three years ago? XD
Great one with the Ecco's sonar :D And the artwork is really unnatural.
