Thrill as they sit around and bicker using terrible dialogue!
Another Text review turned to video! Apologies about the video quality. Once again having problems with Blip's converter and I'll see what I can do about fixing it.
Since my knowledge of nuclear enegry is limited, it was nice little peice of info about breeder reactors.
Other than that, I wonder if it's a good thing or a bad thing that Superbitch Prime killed nearly all of them? Now that I think about it, not counting planets, how many people has this little jerk killed?
Linkara, in my opinion you should refrain from politics.
In this instance, I absolutely 100% agree with you (I even think nuclear power is pretty much our only realistic shot at ending many of the 3rd world's problems). But that's the thing. I don't want to agree with or disagree with your politics. Maybe I'm being petty, but I think it adds an unnecessary distraction from the review, even if what your saying is something I agree with.
You know, how superman doesn't go "I think windmills are the superior technology Lex Luthor! Now allow me to explain why a vote for Obama is a vote for the future!" (Note: if he does, he should stop!)
But seriously, great review as always. I'm just surprised you didn't say something about there being a Vietnamese/African-American character named Mongrel. That's just wrong. o_0
It's like if someone took all the boring and pointless bits of big brother, remade it with a focus on that crap and then, just for fun, filled the house with rejected ideas from Stan Lee's scrap paper bin. Saying that is bad when you think how awful some of the recent creations (and Nightcat) have been. I have to say there wasn't as much life in the review as some of your other reviews, but there wasn't anything to really attack. It was, in summery, a dull, pointless and badly written comic that deserves the title of landfill fodder.
Mountain King Ps Loved the Beast Wars reference, oh Yess yes indeed.
I like to think of this book, and anything else related to Bloodlines, as an unfortunate byproduct of the process needed to create Hitman (which was awesome).
Also, The Wild One was a damn good movie, and Brando's classic line "What do you got?" (in response to "What are you rebelling against?") makes the Brando reference perfectly appropriate.
I forgot to add yesterday, that while the concept of a Superhero reality show where they do almost nothing seems incredibly boring, it probably beats the pants of every reality show today. Kimm Kardashian's sisters would be of interest to me if they could shoot lasers, and why hasn't New York ever cut off her own arm off? Regeneration optional.
Also, and returning to the comic, there was already the technology to put black bars or mosaic effects on TV. I don't see how that would be too much to do for guys who have robot flying cameras at their expense.
The very appearance of Mullet Superman made this bad comic even worse. Why did that terrible hairstyle have to go on the greatest superhero of all-time?
The worst part about Blood Pack was that it was set in the DCU, next to tried-and-true icons like Superman and Batman. At least Youngblood existed in its own space of awfulness, and X-Force was part of the incredible incestuous X-Book continuity; the minute Supes shows up ( Mullet or no Mullet ), we're reminded just how truly awful these guys are by contrast.
If only Beast Wars Megatron actually were there to feed them all to Rampage.
Speaking of reality shows in comics or superhero culture before they become really popular in the mainstream (refering of course to reality shows but how popular superhero movies/comics are at anytime in the mainstream is another matter entirely) has anyone else seen the movie "The Specials"?
It's fairly decent for an indie superhero movie. It's on dvd and people should check it out.
As for nuclear power being safe. It's no less safe then coal or a natural gas plant at normal operations when high safety standards are being maintained.
Thing is when things go bad at a nuke plant depending upon how many people are nearby you could have a few million dead while a coal plant well will only kill the workers at the plant and perhaps some nearby civilians.
Also breeder reactors do produce waste and there have been some serious accidents such as Japan's only breeder reactor where the agency responible tried to cover up how bad it was by falsifying reports of the accident.
As for Carter the fear rightly justified was that the program to make the fuel for the breeder reactors could be used instead to make nuclear weapons and make it a lot easier to do so. This making fuel for the breeder reactors is also how the first atomic weapons came about since they thought uranium was scare but then abandoned it for awhile when lots of uranium and other methods of processing weapons grade uranium and plutonium came about.
Oh there is also one facility that makes a certain part for nuclear plants that makes them as safe as they can be. One facility makes just a few of these parts each year. http://bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601109&sid=aaVMzCTMz3ms&refer=home
As for a solution for global warming nuclear power to even make ten percent of that solution 25 nuke plants a year would have to be built for 40 years. Nuclear power is not a solution for the world's energy needs. It may have it's place but it isnt the solution even with breeder reactors.
" At least Youngblood existed in its own space of awfulness"
Ah Youngblood had it's own continum it existed in the same Comic book universe as the Spawn series and several other comic book series as well. Youngblood was a spin off of another comic book series.
Alan Moore yes that Alan Moore actually took over the writing and creative duties of Youngblood and a few other series for a while. Yes even Alan Moore made a few bad comic series.
I don't mind politics being injected as long as it doesn't dominate what you're doing, go the soapbox route\get all preachy or the commentator doesn't go all angry, self-rightous pundit on everyone. I just say use it sparingly and it can go a long way.
"Thing is when things go bad at a nuke plant depending upon how many people are nearby you could have a few million dead while a coal plant well will only kill the workers at the plant and perhaps some nearby civilians."
IF, not when. Nuclear power plants have far higher safety standards than your average coal burning power plant.
"Nuclear power plants have far higher safety standards than your average coal burning power plant. "
Yet how many deaths are due to coal burning plant disasters compared to nuclear ones?
Bet you one nuclear accident on public record has far more deaths then all the coal plant accidents combined. Also there are hundreds of nuclear facility accidents both civilian and military on record. A lot of people could have easily died in each of these incidents and well let's say a number of deaths due to exposure have occured yet have been covered up. This isn't fantasy btw. A decade or two ago the US gov't admitted exposing people to radiation without their knowledge and a lot of soldiers, sailors have gotten cancer and other ailments who were exposed to radioactive areas and worked with the stuff.
Jimmy Carter who was a nuclear enginner was involved in the cleanup of a nuclear accident. I think he would have some very good info on how dangerous nuclear power and weapons are.
hey anyone here can tell me the name of the exterme song it reminds me of Pomp and Circumstance you know the high school graduation song we all had to walk to but I dont this that was it I need help and wont be able to get a moment of pice untill i can find out what it is.

All of which were early 90's Image comics, and all of which operated in the same sphere of bad attitudes and big shoulder-pads ( even if Liefeld's was the most egregiously awful of them all ). If you didn't like the GrimGasm storytelling method characterizing those books, you could just avoid them.
Blood Pack may not have altered the status quo of the major DC characters, but it was still part of the GrimGasm infecting better comics that predated it. The poor New Mutants suffered the most.
And again, the comments turn into a current events debate. Funny how they always post Anonymously. ;)
Good adaptation of the text review. I liked the Brando reference, if only because I was thinking of "The Wild One". And agreed - the standards of "rebel" have been irrevocably damaged by Twilight, along with for literature, fantasy, film, romance, & Lord knows how much else.
"Yet how many deaths are due to coal burning plant disasters compared to nuclear ones?"
The only nuclear disaster in US history had exactly 0 deaths. Chernobyl happen because the control rods the Russians where using where horrible designed.
"The only nuclear disaster in US history had exactly 0 deaths. "
Publicly known that is. There still have been a number of deaths in the US due to radiation exposure. One of the Manhatten project scientists died due to an expierment. A large number of US nuclear accidents as well as nuclear weapons that were lost were classified and are still classified since the details would also mention deaths that would result from the disasters and accidents the deaths would be covered up.
Despite the claims of nuclear advocates there is a long long list of nuclear accidents and radiation exposures that should give anyone pause as to make nuke power widespread.
Yes deaths were classified due to accidents we know this because it happened in the Soviet Union with the Kyshtym disaster which the CIA knew of but kept secret because if they mentioned it they feared the consequences to the US nuclear industry.
That disaster was the second largest disaster next to Chernobyl and the death toll still is unknown due to the secrecy that surrounds it.
"Also, if it's a "duel-chambered tridium tazer" then why the frak does it only have one barrel?"
I did look that up and from what I can tell, the chamber is an entirely seperate part of the gun, so it's fine to have only one barrel. It's still a moronic description of the thing, but it looks like it isn't inaccurate for guns.
Oh god. It is like a crappier version of "Who wants to be a Superhero".
ReplyDeleteWell if abusive psychopath counts as rebelious then you can easily make a case for Edward. Otherwise yeah you're right.
ReplyDeleteNice Beast Wars call shout out....Yeeeeesssssss. Oh and my handle has no correlation with this comic.
ReplyDeleteGotta love that Beast Wars refference. I feel kinda lame that's the Transformers I know and love, but I digress:
ReplyDeleteCool Review.
Thank you for the Red Dwarf comment. I did a spit take on that one.
ReplyDeleteSince my knowledge of nuclear enegry is limited, it was nice little peice of info about breeder reactors.
ReplyDeleteOther than that, I wonder if it's a good thing or a bad thing that Superbitch Prime killed nearly all of them? Now that I think about it, not counting planets, how many people has this little jerk killed?
Further proof that the only good comic about a superhero reality show was X-Statics.
ReplyDeleteAnd also Wildgaurd. That was good too.
Actually Zeb Wells New Warriors was kind of underrated...
Ok so technically Bloodpack was the only bad comic about a superhero reality show.
Linkara, in my opinion you should refrain from politics.

ANIMA was the greatest thing to happen because of Bloodlines. I will defend that book and character to the DEATH.
ReplyDelete"Oh god. It is like a crappier version of "Who wants to be a Superhero"."
ReplyDeleteCan you even DO that?
Oh, Brando's been spinning in his grave for a long, long time...
ReplyDeleteGreat review as always, but I wish you'd do more non-1st issues.
Aww, no 90s Kid? Totally bogus, maaan! ;(
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, great review as always. I'm just surprised you didn't say something about there being a Vietnamese/African-American character named Mongrel. That's just wrong. o_0
Oh wow. I had the annuals where some of these characters appeared. I didn't realize they tried to make an ansemble comic out of them.
ReplyDeleteIt was more about the aliens then and they were nasty little buggers.
Oh my god........how did you not make a Spinal Tap joke out of that?!
But... Brando wasn't in EITHER Rebel Without a Cause, OR Easy Rider.
ReplyDeleteI'm confused.
Oh, it's very simple, Hossrex.
ReplyDeleteI'm a bonehead.
For some reason, despite looking it up and seeing "The Wild One," for some reason I wrote Easy Rider instead.
It's like if someone took all the boring and pointless bits of big brother, remade it with a focus on that crap and then, just for fun, filled the house with rejected ideas from Stan Lee's scrap paper bin.

ReplyDeleteNice little jab, putting Twilight in it's place! I knew what you meant about Brando though, so no worries!
ReplyDeletefunny review! like the start of Civil War but boring, this comic
so until someone bids on my lot of extra 90's shoulder pads, MAKE MINE LINKARA!

Mastawolf:
ReplyDeleteRondo Alla Turca from Mozart's "Piano Sonata No. 11", from the start of Extreme's Play With Me, says google.
hasoon: No way. That's a shred-guitar version of Pachelbel's Canon In D if I've ever heard one.
ReplyDeleteIt's not the kind of song you can easily banish from your mind, as much as you'd like to.
That may well be the case, Queen Anthai!

This comic is reminding me of that Justice League episode with the Erstaz Wonder Twins.
ReplyDeleteNote to comic book writings: hanging a lampshade on gratuitous fanservice shots does NOT make it any less gratuitous.
