you know, this kinda describes one of the major problems of dc and marvel in a nutshell. it's kinda like what you pointed out with raven in that top 15 heroes gone bad vid. if it worked once, try try again to recapture the magic... and fail (for the most part XD )

If you mean JLA/Avengers, it's mentioned again in Kurt Busiek's subsequent stories about Krona - JLA: Syndicate Rules and Trinity.
If you mean Crisis on Infinite Earths, it most certainly has been referenced again - in Animal Man, Zero Hour, Supergirl: Many Happy Returns, and Infinite Crisis.
As much as I loathed this miniseries for its rushed pacing, lousy dialog, and nigh-incomprehensibility to someone unfamiliar with every single DC character ever (keeping track of who was on what Earth at what time made my head hurt)... I really admire what it tried to do. I just think it would have been better if they'd had twice the amount of space to do it. Embrace decompressed storytelling!
Though I would just like to say, as person who is new to the whole world of modern comics (I pretty much researched as much as I could about the modern Marvel and DC universes after glancing through a copy of Kingdom Come), I think that this emphasis on big event comics has sort of makes the mainline comics superfluous. I know that that opinion is probably a little misguided but look at it this way. Every year since at least Infinite Crisis and House of M there is some new crossover event that drags the whole universe into a big story arc (that may or may not be significant in the long run). As a reader why am i going to pay for the individual issues of the main line stories when they will inevitably be pulled into a crossover that I can buy later as a Trade Paperback. I may still be pretty ignorant about how things work in the comic fandom but thats the impression that I get from the modern comic world.

ReplyDeleteTo be fair, none of the subsequent crossovers changed DCU universe nearly as much as Crisis of Infinite Earths had.
