Captain America: Return of the Asthma Monster

Yes, a villain so good that people DEMANDED his return! After all, YOU remember the asthma monster, right?

  1. Well that wasn't awful for a PSA was the sequel written by the same team?

Maybe they didn't know about the ending of the first one?

    ReplyDelete
  2. Captain America… Ugh as much as I don't like the good Captain, being an englishman, I have to say this was one of the most stupid PSA's they could of come up with.

Why don't I like the Captain, simple. The same reason I don't like Truth, Justice and the American Way. It's not just America that idolises those goals, we all do. The idea that America alone represents this is insulting. It implies only America looks for the ideals the human race, as a whole, has fought for since history began. It's the same as saying that America won the Second World War alone. (PS you/they didn't)

Rant, rant, rant. Grumble, grumble, grumble.

Meanwhile; Asthma to rule the world. What are they going to do, infect everyone and then challenge them to a race? As stupid plans go this is so silly I want to laugh. If you've developed an effective gas gun in the marvel universe, sell it to Magneto. He can use it to turn everyone into mutants, solving a massive problem (and creating about a billion more) Or sell it to von Doom, e'll find a use for it. Or, I don't know, take some damn medication, take it easy and stop being a prat?

Now on to the resolution… Oy, I'm all for redemption's, but what the heck was that? Bad guys need to work for forgiveness and sometimes they can't ever find it. That's what makes them interesting and can lead to more Character Development later. Here it was all rapped up in the last page by some editorial mandate.

You're right that it's the ending that really lets it down here. As it's a PSA the villain's stupidity is a given but that last page takes it from bearable to stupid A nice short episode dealing with a bad PSA comic. It wasn't the ninth level of hell, but more like the second.

  4. this is great mr. Lovhaug but just wondering what are you reviewing next week you have not posted a new odds and ends since may and with the 150th comming up I bet it will be epic

    ReplyDelete
  5. Wait... So let me get this straight:
    1. He's stuck hardly being able to breathe without outside help of some kind (such as medicine).
    2. And He refuses medication so that he's not so "different" (even though the medicine is SUPPOSED to be used so he CAN be "normal" and live his life).
    3. But then, he wears a weird-looking suit so he can finally breathe?
    Are you f***ing kidding me?!

You know... I once saw woman, who had asthma, do professional dancing fairly well without much trouble. It looked intense enough that it would probably make ME slightly breathless by the end of it, if I did it, and I'm a strength athlete (trained for about 4 years, but haven't actually competed professionally yet)!

Frantically, if a person wants to live a normal life when they're stuck with asthma, then they can find a way to do just that. It's so damn obvious that whoever wrote the story for this comic hasn't done enough personal research on the matter.

  6. Were the credits supposed to glitch like that as part of the Entity plot?

    ReplyDelete
  7. the levels of DUMB in this comic makes me ashamed to be a fan of Captain America... and like I should be slapped for having Asthma. I really would like to know just what goes through the minds of the people writing these things when they decide
"[insert PSA idea here] is pretty good... what do you think?"
"Green light this you wonderful man!"

On a side note: the twin clones of Hitler was bumped off the list? just goes to show how idiotic and stupid the really bad comics are huh?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Cap had asthma? Gee, his POLIO kind of tops that.
    Mountain King:
Yes, your country did GREAT throughout history. But where do you think AMERICA got our values?

  9. "this is great mr. Lovhaug but just wondering what are you reviewing next week you have not posted a new odds and ends since may and with the 150th comming up I bet it will be epic"

Actually I posted an Odds and Ends post last month, which has the schedule until September.

  10. "Were the credits supposed to glitch like that as part of the Entity plot?"

Huh? I don't see any glitch.

    ReplyDelete
  11. how did I miss that, NBComcic looks good let me guess it is about tv shows, it still douse not say what the 150th will be I guess I will have to wait a couple of weeks to find out

    ReplyDelete
  12. No glitches for me. The credits looked fine.

And even early Mark Bagley art was already looking a lot better than most of the rest of the 90s. I like his style. That he got even better over time is just the icing on the cake.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Whoa, that thing at the end almost made me soil myself. Dude, how am I supposed to sleep now?

But seriously, great review! And don't get me wrong, I love stuff like what you did there at the end!

Btw: I think the way you are handling the storyline now is way better than before. Although I'm a sucker for storylines in online shows, stuff like that one time where the review got interrupted for looooots of storyline is'nt necessary.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Entity is looking through the fourth wall at it sees us.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Given the character's history, I'm sure this is far from the most embarrassing thing to ever feature Cap.

However, asthma is surely no match for a guy who's punched Adolf Hitler 200 times.

  16. Linkara, so you know, prison guards are generally *un*armed, so that prisoners can't steal their weapons and use them against the guards or each other. So I'll give the comic a pass on none of the guards packing heat.

If memory serves, in the 1970s, Captain America *did* have an unmarked van he traveled around in, with some sort of ultra-high-tech crime lab in the back. Sadly, the Reb Brown movies weren't *that* far off of what was in the comics then. (Is it any wonder that the original "Savage She-Hulk" was pretty much the last thing Stan Lee was directly in charge of at Marvel, given that?)

OK, someone quicker-reflexed than I am needs to hit pause and see what the subliminal message is. All I got out of it was that the last two words were "is coming."

    ReplyDelete
  17. I remember getting this comic from a doctor when I was little, after having some checkup, since I had asthma. I think the front cover was different though.

Thanks for reviewing this comic since I remembered it after watching the Captain America movie and remembered only a couple of panels from it and I wanted to remember what the full story was. All I remembered was Captain America taking his medicine and the "reformed" asthma monster volunteering for a swim team.

    ReplyDelete
  18. what was with the secret message at 17:40

    ReplyDelete
  19. i found a secret message. if you manage to pause it during the credits exactly 17:40 then you will see it too

TEN bucks it has something to do with his new ship AI

    ReplyDelete
  20. "Huh? I don't see any glitch."

When I watched it, the screen buzzed a bit at the beginning of the credits. It was rather odd, considering it didn't happen anywhere else in the video, so I thought it might have been intentional.

    ReplyDelete
  21. PUNCH DUST! It all makes so much sense now! Now I'll never have to clean my stereo set, and only have to punch it to clean it. Thanks comic!:D

If only it was that easy.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Your new poll is a little misleading. Do you only have room for 3 options? Because, I have always read comics, practically since birth, but you have pointed to a couple of comics I had never heard of that I then subsequently read, or plan to read.

    ReplyDelete
  23. ""Were the credits supposed to glitch like that as part of the Entity plot?"

Huh? I don't see any glitch."

    That doesn't quite answer the question . . .

    ReplyDelete
  24. This was the first Captain America comic I ever read. My allergist had a hard cover version when I was little, along with several copies of Captain Bio. Has anyone heard about that one?

    ReplyDelete
  25. There is something that appears in the credits... hang on let me, there!

...'I'm always watching'... I think I just crapped myself in fear. O.o

    ReplyDelete
  26. I am surprise linkara didn't mention the fact as to when did the Asthma Monster fine time to develop an even more potent gas to give people an uncureable case of Asthma and Keep his costume and gas gun to where he can break out of Jail.

After doing the Arsenal review, This could have been brought up here as well.

    ReplyDelete
  27. reposting what I said on twitter because.....why not

first off between the abducting the kids, and that van, I don't think that IS Captain America, I think Crazy Steve just got his hands on a captain america costume

second nice choice of music, first time the full F word has been ever uttered on AT4W funny though

third Mountain King, what's your opinion of Brian Braddock? (personally I love him)

and finally in honor of this review

you all are now breathing manually!

  28. Speaking as someone who had rather severe ashthma and allergies as a child (still do, but it's much milder now, I don't take any medication either), the thing that confused me most is why the comic kept going on about allergens.

Allergens cause allergic reactions; yes, one of these can be an asthma attack, but there are many other ways one of these can start. As I child, I was mostly cautioned against physical exertion, such as climbing stairs too fast and was often excused from parts of PE class as well. From what you showed of the comic, this seemed to be all but completely missing from the PSA part.

Which is especially odd, considering the kid who refused to tell his parents about his problem. If he did have asthma and went completely untreated, he might have run into some serious trouble during basketball practice or a game; his fear of not being allowed to play was well founded... thing is, if he forced it, he could have ended up with some much more serious troubles.

    ReplyDelete
  29. heh oh and also blip decided after this vid to jump me to Linkara's Spiderman #56 review, Linkara always mentiones that since he started he has gained some weight, that's not what I noticed, what I noticed is his voice seems to have dropped an octave :P

    ReplyDelete
  30. People are speculating about "The Entity". I think Lewis hinted at it's identity WAAAY back in the reviews, even before the story began. I won't say what it is in case I'm right; I don't want to spoil the reviel.

    ReplyDelete
  31. "Huh? I don't see any glitch."

...oh boy. This be not good.

  32. Giving good advice to people is easy but why are the people behind PSAs are so bad at telling it. Apart from Sesame Street, no one has been able to have PSAs without looking like an idiot.

    ReplyDelete
  33. As far as the new poll goes...how about I used to read comics, and didn't for a long time - and just started reading them again because of your show. =D

    ReplyDelete
  34. I saw the glitch too, perhaps a problem with the render?

    OR WAS IT THE ENTITY?????

  37. Hmm, the Asthma Monster's motive seems like it could be real. Think about it, a paranoid guy with asthma sees this comic that is sponsored by a pharmaceutical company. He doesn't trust the comic book's message and thinks it's there only to sell unnecessary medication to children. He thinks he does need medicine himself and rages against this whole concept. Thus, he is turned into the villain known as the Asthma Monster.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Roughly in 17:40 mark, there's a small glitch in the credits. Visible and you can hear it in audio.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Cewl review as always!

5:00 You gotta like the foreshadowing here that Disney would one day buy out Marvel with that little goblin thing wearing a Micky Mouse T-shirt!

10:40 That's one creepy looking rape-face on Capt. there in his pedo-van!

So you do own the 1st comic in this PSA series? Or, were those pages scans from online?

I'd really like to see you do a PSAHell review of the Captain America Vs. Drugs comic. I think there are 2 actually but not sure! I've seen like 2-3 different covers and I don't kno if they're different comics or varriant covers!

  40. ("Were the credits supposed to glitch like that as part of the Entity plot?")

    I saw it too!

    ReplyDelete
  43. So...would you say we waited for the return of the Asthma Monster with...(wait for it...)...breathless anticipation?

And I must express slight disappointment that, given the appearance and temperament of the Asthma Monster's little minions, you didn't go with the theme from "Gremlins" as the episode music.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Did something happen to the credits? I thought I saw some static...oh crap.

Anyway, the part with Cap smashing the guy's mask off with his "Hitler Punch" was hilarious and, while it was terrible as a comic book story, it did have an educational lesson in it...which is a rerun of the first but with Gremlins. I'm not surprised you didn't use the scenes of Billy's mom bashing those things in her home, considering the way those kids ran amuck with those things.

    ReplyDelete
  45. @rebbrown: Lee only did the first Savage Shulkie issue, someone else did that run. (then again from some of the issues, there are some potential AT4W eps from that...or just Bronze Age silliness. Yeah there's one obvious issue but I was thinking of something else)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Sucks to their assmar. I anyone got that, you became 20% cooler.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I also saw a glitch in the credits.

    ReplyDelete
  48. This one was reaaaaaaaaaaaally somethin' else... I give them credit for the educational stuff, but the rest of it...?

    ReplyDelete
  49. I see what's going on here. They are trying to use this comic to teach us something. I learned that asthma can be beaten... literally... You might want to get those end credits looked at.

    ReplyDelete
  50. slightly off topic to the review, but did you happen to catch the HBO documentary on real life superheroes called, well, "Superheroes"?

  53. This comic was so bad not even in a good way. Why even make a sequel when its the same as the first?

Also can't wait to see what your'e going to do with the Entity, it's always watching...

    ReplyDelete
  54. SirLordJ said: "This comic was so bad not even in a good way. Why even make a sequel when its the same as the first?"

Ask Hollywood. They've been doing that for years.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Guys the thing in the video is there but linkara doesn't want to give anything away

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yeah, "I'm always watching" AT4W, too. Who knew the entity was such a big Linkara fan?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Two comments...

    1. Could you even imagine the uproar if this was the exact same comment... only the villain was an AIDS Monster? (Of course, for THAT, it'd have to be the New Guardians, not Captain America...)

    2. Wait wait wait... he's now coaching a children's swim team? In order to regularly work with children in ANY capacity in this day and age, you have to get fingerprinted and background checked, and our villain here quite literally swore to a government official (the warden) that he intended to stalk and hurt two children!

I can half buy his getting probation, but he'd certainly be forbidden from coming near any children ever!

    ReplyDelete
  58. First of all, I can't wait for the dramatic reveal in the Marvel Universe when it turns out that everything for the past few years was orchestrated by the Asthma Monster and this crappy scheme was just a cover, Norman Osbourne and The Red Skull have nothing on the tactical genius of the Asthma Monster! Give everybody a disease that's easily curable by common medication...brilliant!

Secondly, I think I know how the whole Entity Arc is going to end...whenever Linkara (the character) finds out about its existance, he will challenge the
Entity to a fight....and lose only surviving due to a well timed interference by 90's Kid (because he's due as he is indirectly responsible for Ninja Style Dancer's demise). Linkara will rally himself and his remaining allies and challenge the entity to one last final battle during a live edition of Atop the Fourth Wall at an address that will get "accidentally" posted. The battle will not go well for our heroes until suddenly a massive army of ATFW fans arrive and attack the Entity in the hopes of getting back Harvey Finevoice, Ninja Style Dancer, that character who only appeared in one episode and never came back so obviously its the Entity's fault and not the fact that the character doesn't serve a purpose anymore and Linksano...in that order probably. Some will live, some will die, and Pollo will discover a previously unknown way of using a blender, but in the end good shall prevail (mostly, Dr. Linksano's return could be counted as a victory for the lesser evil).

Finally, the growing topic of this glitch. It's no use asking Linkara (the character) about it because he doesn't know anything about the Entity...beyond Vice's monologues and the random disappearances of his allies...then again for all he knows Ninja Style Dancer may have just gotten better suddenly and went out for ice cream. It's also no use asking Linkara (the
writer/producer/star/all around awesome guy) because I seriously doubt that he's going to say Yes or No and potentially spoil the entire arc, then what are we going to do until the next arc begins? It's not like we can just sit around and enjoy hilarious/awesome reviews of bad comics. Wait...

Out of curiosity sake Linkara (the w/p/s/aaag version), how far along do you have the story planned? I mean have you already figured out what the story will be this time five years from now, or are you more of an in the moment writer and only have this arc planned out.

Furthermore, how do we even know this is the work of the Entity in the first place? It could be a legitimate accident...or maybe its a sign of Mechakara's triumphant return...or maybe Pollo is just playing a prank on us...or oh, Kami help us what if its the worst possibilty of all it might be the one who first used the power of Silent Hill, the one who is responsible for everything in the Daredevil review....Bear.

Got to go into hiding now.

    Dark Patrician

  59. Great review, dude. Had me laughing even more so than your normal reviews do. And maybe the ending was actually fitting; for a villain as stupid and ridiculous as the Asthma Monster (no really, I can't get past this; shooting everyone in the face with asthma spray was really his plan? Did the years and years of struggling to breathe deny his brain that much oxygen?), a resolution that makes no sense either works just perfectly, no?

Also, thanks for the "i'm always watching" bit. *like she's not paranoid enough already*

  60. Mountain King:

How the hell did you read THAT into his character?

Captain America stands as an idealization of his country's best values. At no point in time did he or anything involving him suggest that ONLY America had those values (merely that those values are important). Furthermore, at no point was it ever suggested that "America won the war alone". In fact, the Captain America comics frequently reference the champions of the varied allied nations (super and non) both during the period when the war was being fought and in the years after.

It seems like your whole disdain for the character is based on a weird preconception forged by your own prejudices that have nothing to do with the character. Would you feel the same way about Captain Britain? Captain Germany/Vormound? They all have the same idea behind them: they are idealizations of their nation's best values. What? No puerile tantrum there?

Seems to me the real issue is your own hang ups.

    Now onto the comic.

    One word: Blegh.

Whose bright idea was it to make a villain whose main point was to make everyone suffer asthma because he himself was asthmatic? Don't have asthma myself, but damn I find that mildly offensive.

What's next: Spiderman vs. The HIV Beast? Iron Man confronts The Cancer Creature? The Hulk battles for his life against the Alzheimer Attacker?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Asthma monster? They made an...Asthmatic super villain who wanted to make everyone else Asthmatic?

    Wow...that's just wrong, man.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Why Howard Mackie, why? How can my favorite Ghost Rider writer write this crap.

    ReplyDelete
  63. The Super Soldier Serum cured Cap of asthma?!? I thought it cured his polio!

    ReplyDelete
  64. So let me see if I get this straight:

Captain America had Asthma as a child.

Spiderman was sexually molested as a child.

What's next? Iron Man was a drunk dri--oh wait. Oh....

    ReplyDelete
  65. I'm sorry. Captain America vs. the asthma monster? That's gotta be the dumbest idea for a villain yet, right alongside the Surgeon General, Dr. Know, the idiot religious nutcases from that X-Men story by Chuck Austen, the Thirsties, and the rock-themed villain from Batman: Fortunate Son.

Between this comic and the bad 1990s Captain America film, I'd rather watch through the entire 1990s film. At least it had the Red Skull.

    ReplyDelete
  66. In no way whatsoever was Cap meant to be a "America Rules! F#!% Yeah!" character. Steve Rogers doesn't blindly play cheerleader for America nor does he suggest that the U.S. is perfect, after all, the man did voluntarily give up being Captain America on two separate occasions after seeing how the American government can be unscrupulously corrupt at times.

If anything, Steve Rogers presents the best that humanity can offer. He's a man who refuses to stoop to the societal norms of modern time and continues to stand for the ideas of righteousness, honour, loyalty, and being the best person that you can be. He's seen the worst that humanity can offer, but he continues to soldier on in being the person that we all strive to be. People may mock him for being too 'old-fashioned' in his gesticulations, but he continues to champion the ideals that we should all stand for.

So next time you assume that Captain America is a blind patriot, don't just look at the colours and the shield and assume it to be the truth, but look at the man behind the mask and shield: Steve Rogers, and tell yourself, "If we all believed in what he believes, our world will be a better place to be in."

  72. I would LOVE to see Lewis take on Savage She-Hulk #1 for Secret Origins month. She's been optioned, but it probably has to be a passion project thing and...the origin story (aside from the fact that the Hulk movie with Ed Norton would have to be retconned to have it happen at all) would still have to be rewritten a bit. And, I know Lewis dislikes the Ang Lee Hulk, but I don't, mostly because when I heard "Ang Lee is doing the Hulk", I actually tried to get some sense of who Ang Lee WAS before seeing it. In fact, I still think it's at least GOOD and the metaphors, although OCCASIONALLY over-bearing, make sense for the character. And, also, that it didn't render any characters impossible for any creative teams that followed to depict, including She-Hulk. So please, Marvel...retcon out the Ed Norton Hulk. You'll have more freedom when you do. To put it bluntly, Ang Lee's Hulk is a super-hero movie...that, I'd say, review wise, is squarely in Oancitizen's sensibility. I can see why comic fans hated it but, (and this is coming from someone who has seen The 400 Blows, 8 1/2 and 50s horror classic The Night of the Hunter) Watchmen was much less interesting, operating only as a cinematic curio similar to Greed.

This was an awesome review, Linkara. ^-^ Funny as always, although I too can testify to the glitchy thing. It was there.

I have a random kind of question for you, and it would be super-special-awesome of you could anwer it; have you ever read the Spiderman three-parter, "The Mysterio Manifesto"? What do you think of Mysterio as a villain. T'was wondering, as he is currently my favorite villain and I was hoping for your opinion.

Please keep doing what you're doing, Linkara! ^-^ I enjoy watching your videos and ironically, that's how I spent my sixteenth birthday on Saturday, with you and a bowl of awesome rice pudding.

Dude, that ain't going to recont that movie for a long while as it's part of the Avengers franchice. Also, they don't need to recont that movie to make a She-Hulk film. They could easily put her into that series in the future. They're planning on an Incredable Hulk 2 after the Avengers. Also, it sort of has been reeconted already since Nortion has left the franchice and been recasted but his movie is still in cannon with the other.

  78. The important part of She-Hulk's origin for this is: Bruce Banner gives blood. Did we, boooratt, watch the same movie when looking at Ed Norton's Hulk? Ed Norton's Hulk was PARANOID about not having his blood leave his body. If it came down to saving a life or keeping his blood in his body Ed Norton's Hulk would most likely choose the latter, just based on what we saw. If they don't retcon out that movie, they might have to take She-Hulk off the "adaptable" table for a while.

  79. lol I don't think I've ever laughed so much at one of your reviews this is great I love Tuesdays because for me Tuesdays mean Atop the fourth wall which always makes me smile and actually I want to thank you because all the stuff I learned from watching your reviews helped me impress my comic book teacher XD

And I hope you don't mind but I've started reviewing comics too (not bad ones just comics that sound good I'm currently reading the runaways) and though I should let you know since I feel like I'm entering your territory here

  80. To those who want a Shulkie comic on AT4W: the origin isn't that bad. Stan Lee made it respectable and it was his last good piece of literature before he went nuts into stuff like Striperella or our old buddy Nightcat. I agree she had some really weird comics (in the Savage era and some of the non-Byrne stuff I heard during the Sensational run), but Savage #1 is respectable and, unless it is tied to a "Secret Origins" ordeal, shouldn't be on this show.

  81. "I would LOVE to see Lewis take on Savage She-Hulk #1 for Secret Origins month. I can see why comic fans hated it but, (and this is coming from someone who has seen The 400 Blows, 8 1/2 and 50s horror classic The Night of the Hunter) Watchmen was much less interesting, operating only as a cinematic curio similar to Greed."

...I don't really understand. Why would they need to retcon the Ed Norton Hulk movie to make a She Hulk movie. And what does Watchmen being "much less interesting" in your opinion have ANYTHING to do with ANYTHING you said prior to mentioning it?

  82. Say, Linkara, are you ever going to do another Top 15 list? I mean, the last one you did was "Top 15 Screw-Ups of AT4W." It's kind of odd... Maybe you could do a "Top 15 Worst Comic Book Adaptations?"

  83. Ah, Captain America hanging out at elementary schools so he can give the children rides in his van without calling their parent's first... Wait, what?
Also, Asthma-Monster: It's not a SUPER allergen if standard medication works on it. If you can invent a freaking teleporter, I'd think you could make an untreatable allergen. Maybe you're only good at breaking the laws of physics? Actually, wait, teleportation, imp minions, too incompetent to do anything with his abilities or have gotten them on his own, driven by ridiculously obsessive revenge fantasies... Did the Asthma Monster get his jump start by making a deal with some children's cartoon version of a demon? Maybe a Care Bears villain?

  84. He's on parole? This man is guilty of breaking out of a prison, aiding others* in breaking out of prison, attacking multiple guards and the warden** and attempted to attack two children. He'll be lucky if he gets out of prison at age 65.

    * Come to think of it, was the gang ever actually explained? Are they just imps that get summoned out of somewhere with no explanation?
** Not to mention spraying them with chemicals that apparently will give them an incurable condition for which they will need to take medication for the rest of their lives.

  85. *wheeze, puff, pant...*

Dark Patrician - Asthma is treatable, but not curable.
I've had asthma since I was a child and while these days I can go over a year without an attack, I still carry my ventolin everywhere. (Notes: my last attack was within the last two months, while I was in some foreign country. Probably on a mountain in Colorado.)
Oh, and I ride my bike to work.
30 kilometres away. (20 miles, to you Imperialists!)

Mountain King - I agree with those who say that being American patriots doesn't mean that they think only Americans have those ideals (Note: it isn't 'Truth and Justice, which are the American Way!' it's a list of three different things.)
I also think that Americans should have the right to write about 'America is the greatest nation on Earth!' - but as an Australian, I don't want to read it.

Panther, I don't know about Captain America specifically, but there are a lot of examples of Americans saying they won the first world war (Friends in England and Independence Day on a symbolic level are examples. The latter shows the English saying 'about time' when the Americans join the fight, as though they'd done nothing until then.)

  86. Messor:

Did I say at any point that such an idea NEVER shows up ANYWHERE? No. I was talking specifically about Captain America comics.

Secondly, if you're going to cast that wide a net, then you'd easily find that every single nation in the war(s) has produced a crapload of media that confers that same ethnocentric title of "central nation of the first/second world war" on their respective homeland as well. So wagging a finger at America for doing it in it's broader media while ignoring the fact that your nation did the same (and believe me, Australia is the LAST nation who should be throwing stones on that score) is a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

  87. Another comment, now that I've watched the review:
Plus: Swimming is supposed to be one of the best exercises for asthma.
(Maybe not across a mountain lake when there's snow on the other side, but I digress.)

Minus: "Asthma medication! Works every time!"
It sooooo does not. It works most times, but sometimes, during a particularly bad attack, face it - you're going to the hospital.

Also, what did the new kid do that could possibly have stopped his attack? Stopping his activity as they advise (pointless advice; if you get an asthma attack, you're pretty much going to stop anyway) isn't enough. He'd need medication.

Well... once we Americans entered the first world war, it was over in a year... but I understand what you mean. But it wasn't just the Americans that helped win both world wars. It was all of the Allied nations. Panther does have a point, though.

  89. Panther, of course you're right, you specifically said Captain America said that, nobody else.

My answer was basically going by the quote you answered, which is:
"It's the same as saying that America won the Second World War alone."
My only point really was that MK didn't accuse Captain America specifically of saying that, but that it has nonetheless been said.

    That's all.

  90. Messor:

Yes he did. He claimed that it was "implied" in the CA comics. Furthermore, as I said before, if you are going to make that grandiose an accusation (looking at the broader media's portrayal), then I would suggest looking in a mirror: Your respective nations have done the exact same thing.

  91. Panther:
I'm not getting that from his post. I'm getting that he's saying that Captain America comics imply that only America look for the ideals the human race, as a whole, has fought for since history began (a mash-up of his words).

The bit about him saying your country says they won the war alone was added for comparison, not to say Captain America comics do that (my understanding).

Whether our respective countries do that or not, does not mean yours doesn't (but it does make us accusing you of it wrong).

  92. Next time I have an asthma attack I'll be sure to deliver a swift 'AMERICA FUCK YEAH' punch right to my chest. Should clear it right up.

Careful, I think you can get kicked off the internet for being fair and reasonable.

  95. "Volvagia said...

    August 10, 2011 7:36 AM"

Yes, I watched the same movie I own the 3 disc DVD! And in the movie he didn't want his blood getting out because the government was tracking him at the time and his blood may or may not have been toxic to other people but from what they shown later it just mutates them if anything, so if they did want to make a She-Hulk movie based off this same franchice they could. All, they need to do is set up her needing blood and Bruce is the only one around and it's life or death and he gives her a pint or 2 and she goes all green. Hell they did it quite well in the old 90s cartoon!

  96. I am sorry for this Lew, but it is something I have wanted to say in response to your use of the word hippie. "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." Sorry bout that. Just been on the tip of my tongue for a while.
