«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 204 of 204For all those people who claim that the reason why fans are angry and disgusted with the travesty known as “Red Hood and the Outlaws” is because they’re prudes or because they’re secretly hate sexual agency in women, they’re completely missing the point. Starfire’s new incarnation is not only horribly sexist and degrading, but it’s *out of character.*
“Love has nothing to do with it?” For Starfire, love had *everything* to do with it. Why are the writers trying to make her into Ice Queen!Emma Frost? If they wanted an emotionless caricature of a promiscuous woman, they could have created a whole new character, instead of botching an existing one. As for respecting Starfire’s sexual agency, don’t make me laugh. Don’t try to pretend that the writers are promoting her control of her sexuality by constantly casting her in shots worthy of Playboy and having our two “heroes” talk about her like she’s a sexual trophy instead of a person and high-fiving each other like mindless frat boys over having “scored” with her. Linkara said it best: this version of her is nothing but an adolescent, heterosexual male fantasy. That's it.
As for Catwoman – oh, great, yet another story telling us that “no” really means “yes, if you make me.” Oh, and that guys can’t be raped because they all want to have sex all the time and if they say no, they don’t really mean it. Thanks, DC. *sighs*
Really Shorty T.A.I.L. Episode 4 A New Hope (because it's Sunday morning, i know i promised don't comment anything else further this weekend and let me check...yep, except for this there only one, maybe two TAIS with space left to fill a That's All I Love edition so let's address the elephant in the room :
"That's All I Love 9-22-11 but seriously 10-9-11 presents I Love Red Hood and The Outlaws and i don't care for what other peoples think because i know what's cheesy and i know what i like."
In fact i love that comic book so much i am really that willing to embarrassed my self further in defense of the actual independent self-confident hommosapiesnmaleanizer (repeat this word to your friends but three times faster)and Outlaws powerhouse interstelar Pimpetteer Starfire.
Don't fool yourselves friends and unfriendly people even with my 8th grader english grammar, this is a book for grown ups, it's Jason Todd's show, it's Roy Harper's reboot and without Kory they would be as good as dead, instead they both have sun burns in curious places and probably some sort of venereal disease that made their minds easily suggestible to the wills of a golden skinned alien goddess with variable sized breast cups (it's like boners for boys, happy cup, sad cup, intriguingly pointy cup, and so on...). And answering the only person who address my previous statement directly:
quoting Anonymous female in the audience : "You seem to mostly have issues with reading comprehension, actually".
No dear, i don't and i stand in defense of Scott Lobdell on this, he can't give all the eastern eggs all at once in the first issue.
Red Hood and the Outlaws is an action flick and i loved, even more than i loved Batwing, not so much as i loved Voodoo but in the end i loved and still love unless of course he ruined everything just the same way he is doing with Teen Titans, that's clearly a demographically reddish aimed comic book despite the absence of bright colors (meanwhile JLI is amazingly straight hardcore Michael Bay style action adventure despite the all bright colors and that's ironic because JLI is the average gimmick in my opinion - and everybody has the right to made his own opinion - while Teen Titans is just stupid and badly colored, did DC cut the budget for palettes ?)and i read better demographically aimed comics in the past (made yourself a favor and read All Star Batman & Robin again please, that's good cheesy).
Like the great Senator Ortolan Finistirre once said and i quote distractedly : The great state of Denial will not apologize for its cheesy!, and that's what S.A.F.E.T.Y (Strippers for the Advancement of Fireblasters in Effective Tutorialized Youth)stands for.
Once again thanks Mr.Lewis Lovhaug for give the example on PR relationships management and help to prove to all that we are not just "nothing but a bunch of basement dwellers who spend all day whining on the 'net" and that there is in fact several open minded people on the bunch (most of them are men despite minor disagreement about preferences but we incorporated and encourage some women and Hold, our danish gay cable guy and actual landlord, to join the group too).
In the end that's all i love.

lol Great RedLetterMedia reference at the end! :D
I just finished reading Batman Court of Owls and I really liked it. Great character development and I was glad to see Bruce trying to revitalize the city. It had an interesting mystery and the face recognizer tech that Bruce used was great for new readers (which I am one). Although I think it was very cheap for them to throw ALL those villains in the beginning only to (SPOILERS) not have them return or have any impact in the following story. Great art though. Very satisfied.
You've explained the very same reasons why I HATE the New 52 version of Starfire better than I could, Linkara, well done!
Its just depressing, Starfire has been my favorite DC heroine for years and now they've taken everything that made her so likable & reduced her to this shallow character I can barely recognize. The original Kory, the REAL Kory, was an emotional person full of life and love, who cherished her emotional bonds to her friends and family more than anything. True, she's always been a fanservicey character, but she also had soul to her, a real personality. She was sexy but there was more to her than simply being sexy. She was capable of both physical & emotional love, & while she did have a sex life after Dick Grayson, her bonds to her friends and even to her ex-lover were still there (aspects that made it difficult for her to find new love due to the very nature of her species & the strength of their emotional ties).
Starfire wasn't a female James Bond who'd sleep with any man she came across just for kicks & without any emotional attachment afterwards. There's a difference between a positive sexually active character and a negative one. I normally have little issue with fanservice in comics, & yet i was honestly disappointed by DC's actions in regards to Starfire, she meant to be more than just a pretty face & hot body >_<
To top it all off, Kory supposedly can't tell the difference between Jason & Roy at times, despite the fact that they look NOTHING alike. I could understand Starfire having difficulty telling two humans apart if we were a race of googly eyed bug people or some other breed of creature that bore zero resemblance to a Tamaranean, but humans look nearly identical to Tamaraneans except for the lack of glowing green eyes and orange skin. It should be child's play for her to tell Jason & Roy apart, her inability to do so makes her seem shallow or stupid rather than alien.
I can handle the skimpy outfit, she's worn those before, I just can't stand how they've altered everything that made her who she is personality wise & altered her history so intensely (the New Teen Titans by Perez & Wolfman apparently were never an official team)...What was wrong with her being a veteran Titan? Plus, if she had to be on a new team, why Jason Todd's? I'll admit she comes from a warrior culture & that in the past the Titans had trouble reigning in her instinct to shoot first & ask questions later, but she's LONG PAST that now, DC missed their chance to make her an anti-hero LONG AGO, she's been a real hero too long to switch over to the dark side (there's a difference between growing up as a warrior princess in the most hostile sector of known space & being an out of control psycho vigilante like Todd).
I think Jason could work well as "The Punisher" of DC comics, but that he didn't need a team to do that, or at least Starfire should not have been reduced to his level (Todd has tried to kill Dick, Kory would NEVER hang with Jason). Kory belongs with either the Titans, The Outsiders, the Justice League, or an alien hero team like in R.E.B.E.L.S.
P.S. I heard in a recent issue that Kory actually considered leaving her homeworld at the mercy of a new alien menace out of spite towards her sister, she honestly considered letting an entire civilization, her OWN PEOPLE, be killed off just because of a grudge with Blackfire. Oh, & apparently Blackfire sold Starfire to the Citadel to save Tamaran rather than out of evil intent & jealousy, it was meant as an ultimate sacrifice sort of deal, one person's freedom in exchange for everyone else's freedom...So Blackfire actually comes across as more sympathetic than Starfire...DC can't even get their epic sibling rivalry right! >_<
