Aw, I wish I could draw . . .

I never even noticed until you brought it up, that Pollo had a "beak".

Hey, Pollo's gonna come back from oblivion after the Entity storyline! That's a welcome, if not a little obvious, spoiler. If returning from Entity-captivity leads to changes to the characters' appearances, can the "Re-designed" Harvey Finevoice have one of those pencil-thin mustaches? And 90s Kid a Liefeld-approved multi-pouch fanny pack?

Jeepers! Who in the Hell is that thin guy in the MST3K clip? He'd probably look really trim in a Green Ranger suit.

Sent in my redesign. Had to use MS Paint to make it though. XD

You said you only want an attached image or Deviant Art link, but if we e-mail our designs to you, can we include things like previous sketches, design notes, inspirations for certain parts of the design, material suggestions, etc?

Ah, so his kidnapping is a clever excuse for him to get a new toy-I mean, body. Sorry, I'm used to that happening in every incarnation of Transformers.

Thing is, I can't draw, but for the people who can? Nu!Pollo should be rainbowcolored and be made out of uranium...Huh. I just realized "Pollo" is pronounced "POY-OH". Odd.

"Jeepers! Who in the Hell is that thin guy in the MST3K clip? He'd probably look really trim in a Green Ranger suit."

Heck to the yes. Young!Linkara is a cutie!

I'm entering the contest. I think I'm gonna go with some simple detail-wise and puppet-like to recreate the older version's charm. Besides, if I went overboard on the detail, it may come off as "heavy" or too distracting. Alright, to the drawing board I go.

You certainly may! ^_^

I wish I could or design well. I couldn't properly design my own characters. Good luck to everyone though and can't wait to see pollo's new look eventually.

How complicated can it be? I’ve drawn a ruff pitcher of a remote-control spider Pollo. However, I think it’s probably got too many moving parts. Would it be possible to make several moving legs and two hands with moving fingers that can pick things up?

If not, then it’s back to the drawing board.

If yes, I’ll do a more detailed pitcher and send it in.

LEWIS PLEASE MAKE A VIEWO SHOWING OFF ALL THE SUBMISSIONS

There's something I've always wondered... can you give me a list of the episodes of your show that had the first appearances of each character? Mainly 90's Kid and Harvey Finevoice. Seriously, when was their first appearances on this show?

90s Kid first appeared in the Blue Beetle Tribute and Harvey first appeared in the Previously On segment for Daredevil #306.

Agreed. Or at least upload all of the sketches (with the artists permission of course).

hey linkara is there another way to send a art design to you? because your email link dose not work and I cant make a dev art account.

Sailor_sega said...

Does anyone have a URL for the fan MST3K? A quick google search found me the name (Mst3K 11) and 3 trailers but I could find nothing else. Is there more?

Well, I've been getting people's submissions fine enough, so the e-mail does work. ^^; Might want to try just typing it out in your e-mail client.

I sent in my idea, it is also an MSpaint, but it isn't THE worst possible.

On the new Pollo design thing! AWESOME I FINNALLY GOT A CONTEST TO DO! I'll see if I can't get something done and loaded to my Deviantart http://boorat.deviantart.com/ acount by tonight! Sweet! I'm thinking a more warrior looking robot! :D

Unless he has a back-up of Pollo's memory and personality and is just going to upload it to a new construct... o_O

Yea, I want to get a URL on Linkara's MST3K thing too, or at the very least he posts a Rifftrax of it.

Also, I think one of his robots had the voice of Iron Liz.

Hey Lewis, this is TheArcticDemon on DeviantART. I'm just wondering since I have already sent you my re-design of Pollo and you're submitted this video today, prompting us to create something during the time frame of this contest, is my entry in or do I have to make tweaks to my design so I can meet your demands (after looking over your rules, I realize I need to add in the beak. I never really notice that and overlook that little detail so I'll go back to fix that).

I guess I answer that question, but what the hey. It's something else for me to try and it'll be awesome to see one of my creations on a show. If you want I can fix my design and the image that I have sent you on DeviantART will update (The name is "V2 Prototype: Pollo")

Lewis Lovhaug said...

Nooo, the robots were voice by my high school friends Adam and Tony.

This seems like it could be fun... though I may get a bit of trouble trying to narrow down what Pollo should look like. Are we limited to just one entry or can we submit multiple designs?

Dude, don't want to be a dick but making a contest when the only prize is a simple "thanks" after the credits? That's kinda rude for the artist.

so is there another way to send comics or a pollo desinge?

Thanks and promotion. I'm not asking them to build a full, working prop. I could offer a cash reward, but doing so puts in some potentially legally tricky stuff. Really part of it is the knowledge that they have made a contribution to something they really enjoy.

Well, do you use Microsoft Outlook? Do you use a web browser via yahoo.com? Where do you type in the e-mail address for when sending e-mails? Wherever you do that, you just type in the CAContest@hotmail.com or the like and bam, there you go.

I did a serch and I do have something called outlook express when I tried to acess it a got a bunch of errors but ingoring that it is called outlook express 6 it appers to be last updated in 2004 so far thats all I know.

"Do you use a web browser via yahoo.com?"
I dont think so, we simply use internet explorer as it has givin us no problems. we used to have juno though but, we got rid of it after some mistakes gave us problems.

"Where do you type in the e-mail address for when sending e-mails?"

sorry I dont know what you mean.

thank you for helping me out so far your a swell guy. =)

Thankyas. You know what an e-mail address is, right? When you send an e-mail, there's usually something like "Thisperson@yahoo.com" or something similar and that's an e-mail address. And when you send an e-mail, there should be a place where you can type in that address. So when you DO send e-mails, how do you normally do it - step by step.

As a graphic design student that means barely nothing to be honest. Never accept an offer without real compensation.

Seriously, not trying to be a douche or anything.

"I could offer a cash reward, but doing so puts in some potentially legally tricky stuff."

Legally tricky? You'll be offering money to get a design. That's the deal, isn't it? By that you are buying the copyright of the design. But you know? I'm mexican so I don't know what's up with legal stuff in USA.

Anyway, just saying this because professionals wouldn't do stuff like this at all without any kind of compensation and promotion is not it.

But you have a large fanbase and I'm pretty sure they will come up with something cool for the redesign for Pollo. Best luck.

You pretty much said it right there - offering a monetary reward suggests that I'm also buying the rights of it from them and could mean legal problems down the road if someone suggests that a monetary reward is not compensation enough, hence why instead I'm not asking for anything more than a simple drawing - nothing fancy, nothing extensive, just a sketch of what they think a new Pollo would look like. If somewhere down the line they want some other form of compensation, it can be worked out.

Anonymous said...

"offering a monetary reward suggests that I'm also buying the rights of it from them and could mean legal problems down the road if someone suggests that a monetary reward is not compensation enough"

But isn't that the deal? You buy the rights, the design belongs to you because you sell it to them, you are the client of the designer. Like buying a suit.

What kind of laws has the USA that the designer can demand more from you after he sold the design to you, finishing a transaction?

Lewis Lovhaug said...

Essentially what I'm doing is leaving the option open later for THEM to want monetary compensation for the design. I trust my fans to not demand that later, but basically by not giving them a monetary prize that would suggest I'm completely buying up the rights for their design, if they decide later, "You know what? I did this hard work and I want more than just a credit for it," they can contact me and negotiate for what they want more, like cash.

Essentially I'm giving them more options down the road instead of offering it up front. If you think that's wrong, fine, and if more people agree with you and want a cash prize like I did with the theme song, then I'll add it on, but for the moment I don't see a need for it.

i'm wanting to post up some designs, but if i do when dose it have to be made by, as live in england and i'm not sure how to get it to you but i dont want that to hold me back from making it. if i send in my designs it would only be an idea and only be partly made by the 16th is that ok, or not?

Don't feel too pressured - I'm not the strictest of deadline-pushers, so if it arrives a few hours into the 17th with a few words of apology, I won't mind. ^_~

Size may not affect the design on paper, but when it's really built it may; so would the rebuilt Pollo be the size of a shoe box or the size of a Dalek?

Depends on the shoebox - it'd either be a really large shoebox or bigger than one, but certainly less so than a Dalek.

I can't wait to see how this redesign contest turns out.

By the way, what about your other robot buddy from the MST3K video?

D. Logan said...

So for the sake of argument, if someone had several ideas, but wanted to leave the options open for you to take the parts you liked and set aside those you did not, would it be alright to set something up where the drawings had designs for each aspect (head, arms, torso, etc) that you could then pick from if you liked. Obviously include an example or two of what the best of those combinations might be in the opinion of the artist. Or... do you prefer just whole works without regard for the possible changing of components?

Lewis Lovhaug said...

Tony, unfortunately, was not as sturdy and well-made as Pollo and has long since been disassembled.

Your call - either multiple designs or one e-mail with an interchangable design is fine. ^_^
