Silent Hill: Among the Damned

Have you seen a better comic? Just turned seven?

  1. Well, you said it last week that you were tired of doing Silent Hill Comics every October. If this keeps up, there won't be any left for next year and you'll get your wish. And from the looks of things, the worst of it all seems to be behind us. In fact, if I can be embarrassingly honest...I kinda liked this comic. Well, I like it better than the other ones, anyway. How come this story was a one-shot that had no bearing on the overall plot of the Silent Hill comics and the whole Christa Bella nonsense is the stuff that keeps coming back???

    MarzGurl! NOOOO!!!! T_T

  2. The saturation in the video is off.

  3. So, is this part of the Entity plot (the other TGWTG contributors being taken) actually going to affect when they get their videos out to make it more elaborate, or is it confined to this show?

  4. wow really liked this one, still dont get a lot of the bigger picture despite having seen most of the comics avaiable and playing most of the games(man that silent hill 1 clip was so nostalgic)anyway on a side note i dont know if it has anything to do with my computer or monitor but for some reason every shot you appeared in was a lot brighter then the usual i was assuming that was part of the whole silent hill fog effect but no apparently not and no note after the credits either so just curious if you know about it.

  6. This actually makes sense.

The Entity, in order to get to Linkara, will obviously try to attack him where it hurts the most: his heart. The Entity will get to him emotionally by capturing his best friends.

And who are Linkara's two best friends in the whole wide world?

The two people he loves like siblings?

The two people closest two his heart, the ones he will do anything for?

    Linkara and Marzgurl.

They are like the Three Musketeers: the three united, one for all, all for one.

Which is why the Entity captured them.

There's only one person in the whole world that means more to Linkara than his two best friends, Linkara and Marzgurl. And that person is his girlfriend, his beloved Iron Liz.

    Which means SHE'S NEXT.

  9. On the Comic, Yeah you pretty much nailed it, This comic's script needed focus and it would have been a good Silent hill comic

    On the Arc

  13. This main character certainly was more likeable than the other main characters, and it actually would have been kind of neat if it tied in with Dead/Alive, as that would give the scenes with Ken and his dad in Dead/Alive some purpose.

And this Entity really needs to be put in its place.

So, Marzgurl recognized it. This is interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  14. "So, is this part of the Entity plot (the other TGWTG contributors being taken) actually going to affect when they get their videos out to make it more elaborate, or is it confined to this show?"

It's confined to this show. It can be fit in anywhere in their own continuity, but I'm not going to ask people to stop posting videos for a few weeks to satisfy MY show's storyline.

  15. Welp, that's Spoony and Marz now.

Wonder who's next... If it's limited to previous crossover folk that'd be Nash, Nostalgia Critic... hmm... Cinema Snob... Phelous?

  17. You know the more of these Silent Hill comics you read the more I think the writer actualy wrote a bunch of Hellraiser one-shots that he couldn't get published and when he was given the Silent Hill gig he just made a few placing and charatcer name changes and poof here you are a bunch of "Silent Hill" comics that just don't fir the game's story or even the movie's!
If you've ever read any of the Hellraiser Chronicals you know what I'm talking about. The monsters look more like Cenobites and the reality worping and the setting changing to fit the "protagonist" are more key features of entering the Leviathan than Silent Hill. Does any one else believe this?

I do agree this is a much better and more relatible comic and main character. I don't see how it connects with that other story as the lead's dead dad looked like a WWII or maybe Veitnam vet and the Jason guy in this one looks from his flashbacks to be either a Gulf War vet or a modern Iraq War or Afghanistan War vet.

"Oh, my god it's Britney Spears! I say we throw her bck to the monsters outside!"

I do actually kind of like the demonic Dalia look in that scene it's actually kind of creepy! make a wicked tattoo to me at least!

So if this is the Best Silent Hill story and the last one was the Worst what's the nexted one suppose to be!?

  18. PS: No not Marzgurl! Why couldn't it be Welshy!? Because I want to break out the Futurama with a "WELSHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!"

    Who should go next.
    How about the girl
    or perhaps the gamer
    or maybe even the critic.

    1. OH... the entity just burned Spoony.

    2. I assume girl refers to Liz, No no no Entity you save that one for last, Beat him down and then kick him in the balls Geez

Joe... Well let's behonest... After Linkara, Joe is easily the second most dangerous person being a Red Lantern, muntant Cyborg with a gun fetish and an Army of Expendable Clones.

Critic, Unless his N-Critic, You should only go after him for the Scream.

But Then I'm just a poster with an opinion.

  20. Nice mobile emitter Linkara.

Also, kudos for using you get what you give, one of my favorite songs.

  21. Wow, just one more comic to go. Well sorta. There is that one "Hunger" exclusive to "The Silent Hill Experience" on UMD. Ironically I'd really like to know your thoughts on that one Linkara, but given it's motion comic only, and I think you said you aren't into motion comics. It probably means you have no desire to take a look at it. It does make me curious as to if you are aware of the UMD though. It's certainly an interesting little thing to have.

  22. NOOOOO MARZGURL!

    Anyway, great review Linkara.

Though I do have a question for you. I know you prefer your protagonists to be generally good and likeable, but are there any protagonists who are morally ambiguous, or even villain protagonists, that you do happen to like?

If that question makes any sense. XD Sorry if it doesn't, I'm a bit sleep deprived. ^^

    ReplyDelete
  23. First Spoony, just as we're about to get Warrior #4, and now MarzGurl?

Now this entity is just being downright unsocial.

But anyways, great review, and alas, I agree, this would have been a much better comic with a few tweeks and changes. Still, not bad, considering what we've seen before.

    ReplyDelete
  24. "Though I do have a question for you. I know you prefer your protagonists to be generally good and likeable, but are there any protagonists who are morally ambiguous, or even villain protagonists, that you do happen to like?"

Oh hell yeah. Secret Six - they are the height of moral ambiguity and sometimes do horrible, horrible things... but they're written so damn well that I don't even care.

  25. I have to say that even this one fails as a Silent Hill comic for at least one other reason. We don't really see the main character tested, punished and (possibly) absolved by the town. Sure we do see him work through his guilt and try to move on, but that was more the (apparent) ghosts of his comrades and him. I completely agree with Linkara in that the idea could have worked well, but I'd say that the failure of the comics is at least partially due to this missing detail.
I wonder if the writer ever got that the town isn't supposed to be something that malevolently attacks the outside world.

    ReplyDelete
  26. There's something I've always wondered: how far ahead do you write your reviews, both the review itself and the plot to go with it?

    ReplyDelete
  27. But why would the Entity go after Joe or Doug?

They don't mean as much to Linkara as Spoony and Marzgurl.

You don't understand the bond between Spoony, Linkara and Marzgurl. These three are the best of friends. They care for each, stand by each other, they help each other and support each other and show the same interests. They laugh together, love together, ride together, die together. They have a friendship as strong and firm as a mountain.

Think about these trios of friends:

    -Harry, Ron and Hermione

    -Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman

    -Athos, Porthos and Aramis

    -Kirk, Spock and McCoy

    -Jessie, James and Meowth

    -Aang, Katara and Sokka

    -Kira, Connor and Ethan

THAT is the bond that Spoony, Linkara and Marzgurl have. They are a trio, three best friends united by common interest and a common goal: to entertain people with funny video reviews.

And THAT is why the Entity went after Spoony and Marzgurl: because they are the two people he cares most about in the whole world.

Then, there's Iron Liz. While Linkara is united with Spoony and Marzgurl by the bond of friendship, Linkara is united with Iron Liz by the bond of romantic love. As such, she will be the next one to be targeted by the Entity.

Sidenote: I really hope this doesn't interrupt their weekly schedules, though. I want Marzgurl to continue with her task of reviewing evertything Don Bluth ever made, I'm still waiting for a new Spoony video, and I hope Iron Liz comes out with a review that blows my mind.

  28. I have a theory about Linkara wearing a Mobile Emitter. Perhaps, after he got captured by Vyce, Linkara realized that he needed to take measures, in the event that he was captured again, to make sure that reviews still got out on time. So, he made a Holo-Linkara to take his place in his absence. Now, the reason the reason the Holo-Linkara is out at the current moment may be due to the fact that the entity may have taken Linkara at some point off screen and the reason that he is using the mobile emitter is because the entity may be able to affect any direct projections. Or maybe I am just over-analyzing it and it is just a Halloween costume or something.

  29. Just curious, you censored the girl's nipples in this comic, but not the girl in the painting in the last comic. Just wondering why.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I do wonder: if next week is the end of Silent Hill on AT4W, will it be the final battle with the Entity...or just another Silent Hill fight...or maybe just postponing the Silent Hill fight until after we get past the Clone Saga stuff since it will be The Entity itself. All I know is this: whatever happens next week could build up to the rest of the month.

As for the comic...well it wasn't bad a lead but still confusing as heck. Although somehow I sort of figured you'd have the New Radicals at the end after the way you presented it in the episode.

    ReplyDelete
  31. If I had written this story, I would have Jason meet many victims of the town. He tries to save them all, still recovering from his guilt. After awhile, he keeps seeing all tthese people slowly killed off, while the monster would go easy on him. The guilt of always surviving would eat at him continously, but he still feels enough compassion for the other survivors to swallow this pride. Eventually, it's revealed that all of the survivors are, themselves, abiritions created by the town, representing the guilt he has been facing all this time.

  32. Dear Mr.Entity,
I realize that you are trying to take away the people most important to Linkara. However, I feel that you have underestimated Linkara and his friends. Being the terrible Eldritch abomination that you are, you probably feel that there is no possible way for you to be defeated. But Pollo and Harvey Finevoice have already gotten past you and got a message to Linkara. Now you have also kidnapped Spoony and Marzgirl. You may not be aware, but Spoony's alte rego is a mad scientist, and Marzgirl is so good that many members of the TGWTG team were scared to death of her during Kickassia. My point is that putting those four together, you may be defeated from the inside.

Alo, I realise that you are taunting Linkara with your messages, but he has not shown any reaction to any of the glitches in the credits or any of your messages in the comments, leading me to believe that he does not know that they are there. It would be much more effective for you to reveal these to him, scaring him and intimidating him.

I don' mean to tell you how to do your job or anything, but please just consider my suggestions.

    From,
    ShatteredSanity

P.S. GO LINKARA!!Kick The Entity's ass back to the coast where it came from!!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. No! Not Marzgurl! And yet, she knew the Entity.

It is obviously somebody the rest of TGWTG knows, but who could it be?

My guess. It's Suede. I mean, look at him. He's so harmless looking, and he's Australian!

    (Isn't he from New Zealand?)

Same region! Anyway, I think it's him. He's happy to be back, and the only way he can express his gratitude is to eat people... wait, that doesn't make any sense at all.

...I'll need to get you back on that.

    ReplyDelete
  34. hmm Marzgirl seem to recognize the Entity as if he or she can't possibly be there.

Marzgirl been reviewing alot of Don Bluth stuff.... I got it the entity is Don Bluth!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. MarzGurl too?! Entity you bastard!

I think the loving embrace thing was born out of the situation they were in. It wouldn't have happened otherwise, but because they had been going through that together it ended up sparking something resembling romance.

Actually has a sense of realism to it and that's odd since it's a Silent Hill comic.

    ReplyDelete
  36. No, no, no, the gamer that the Entity refers to has to be 90s Kid. Although I don't think he's going to go so soon for certain reasons. It's really only because he's the only side character in the October Trailer that we've seen recently.

I'm happy with that since after Harvey Finevoice, 90s Kid is my Favorite character and is always the funniest on Linkara's show.

Also Linkara, after the whole Entity storyline, is Bobo the Clown going to make more appearances and is his character going to be fleshed out. We didn't have any time to really know anything about him.

Also, feel free to just ignore this suggestion, but I think his character should be that he's the classiest clown in all history, even if he is sometimes goofy.

    ReplyDelete
  37. "Just curious, you censored the girl's nipples in this comic, but not the girl in the painting in the last comic. Just wondering why."

Because to me, at least, she seemed censored already. It's not exactly easy to tell that she's got exposed nipples with all the black ooze everywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I can barely believe it, a decent Silent Hill comic (at least as decent as these things get.)

Also I made a similar pink armor (LIGHTISH RED) joke in one of my youtube reviews back in March, on the Turbo movie no less, small world isn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  39. So, is there a plot reason why the entire video was shot with the brightness set to ridiculous, or was that just a screwup?

    ReplyDelete
  40. OH NO MARZGURL IS GONE! Who's next? Iron Liz? Angry Joe? Nostalgia Critic, Rob and Bargo? Cinema Snob? Phelous? Film Brain? Oancitizen? Nash? This is not good.

Anyway, this is a great review. To be fair, this comic isn't that bad. I wish they could have done more with this plotline.

I can't wait to see the last of the Silent Hill tales (I got this feeling it will end up being bad, like the last film of the Cho Den-O trilogy on Toku Time).

    ReplyDelete
  41. HEY ENTITY! I GOT SOMETHING FOR YOU! SUCK LASER! *Fires a DH-17 Blaster Carbine (Star Wars Gun)*

(PS Linkara, I know you posted the Entity's message so could you have him reply back to me thanks!)

    ReplyDelete
  42. "So, is there a plot reason why the entire video was shot with the brightness set to ridiculous, or was that just a screwup?"

"The saturation in the video is off."

Did you two see the end of the last episode?

  43. I agree wholeheartedly, this is a step above most of Scott Ciencin's Silent Hill work, and I can't help but feel that if you cut out the pages and rearranged them, it might make more sense... And I actually kind of liked that the dead military forces forgave him in the end, though as you said, it could have been handled a lot better, probably without the Demonic Pop Star, though from what I've heard about Ciencin's other work, it's hard for him to write anything without gratuitous amounts of profanity, sex and gore to really drive home the mature readers' rating.

I will say though there's a refreshing lack of attempts to shoehorn Lovecraftian themes into this story and the fact that he lifted things from Silent Hill instead of trying to steal things from other horror franchises means that this at least LOOKS like Silent Hill... Aside from the out-of-place artwork. As you said, the protagonist is actually likable, interesting and somewhat noble, which is far more than can be said for... Well... Any of the other characters beside BEAR THE DOG and Joe.

...Entity, you sack of Doug Moench's Excrement! Linkara, kick that extradimensional abomination in its ethereal behind for MarzGurl and SpoonyClone!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Clearly, the other TGWTGs members have robot duplicates to update their videos. Or maybe the Entity is screwing with Hypertime. There are dozens of ways to explain this.

Also, yessss. Marz's reaction to the Entity more or less proves the Brotherhood messages are fake. SO glad you aren't going with that origin.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I feel like there was something in that static as Marzgurl was taken. Did anyone else spot it? I tried to pause it but I can't time it right.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Also, great choice on the ending music. Kickass song I hadn't heard in far, far too long.

    ReplyDelete
  47. But why would the Entity go after Joe or Doug?

They don't mean as much to Linkara as Spoony and Marzgurl.

Ummm... I'd tell you the romatic era ended, but I'd think you miss the point. Also, Spoony is Insano unless your pulling a Enemies love you more then anybody sticth. I don't really see this deep Deep bond your proclaiming... since hell Linkara asked Joe to help him with Vyce not Spoony... Where's your Romance novel Gods Now? Linkara seems to be on good terms with everybody at the site and is honestly the least evil of his comrades.

  48. Another good show, nice to see once of the Silent Hill books is at least better then the rest. Looking forward to the final one.

Honestly, the way you talk about it makes me really want to play the games.

As for the Entity, it's finally gone to far, I can't wait to see you kick it's ass. It s.mply ha. no id.. what y.. c.. do .. .. .......

  49. I wanted to give my thoughts on analyzing the covers in the trades:

First, the trades are sold only after the individual issues have been marketed and sold. So, while you may have gotten the trade, in which the covers are not so important, there had been a time in which each one of those covers was prominently on display to market the particular issue. Just because they aren't a marketing tactic for your edition, they were before and should be analyzed accordingly.

As well, when I go into Barnes and Noble, I often look at their trades. The store may have many books with the spine out, but they also show select ones with the cover out. I treat this like a comic store displaying new comics with their covers facing the customers, while the older issues are in the longboxes, with only the tops immediately visible (or on shelves with only the sides visible, if your comic store does it that way). And the logic extends to the idea of selling a text book: you see an interesting title and pull it off the shelf. From there, the cover is supposed to sell it to you. Granted, trades and text books have the advantage of giving you the back cover (which hopefully summarizes the plot--I hate that hardcovers generally don't) and (sometimes) letting you flip through them before buying (though some places sell their comics like this, too), but sometimes a format might have added incentive.

  50. The Comic: The only thing that seemed off in this one was the timing of events, to me at least.

Your Arc: So, who next on the list I wonder.

    Fiery Little One

    ReplyDelete
  51. It's funny you mentioned that Film Crew clip you showed last week. That gave me a really good chuckle. Good review here as well. It's nice being able to root for a Silent Hill main character

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think the entity is Ma-Ti or whats left of him after the events of suburban knights. mars girl knew who or what is was and seemed surprised and started to say a name starting with a M.plus if you listen the voice sounds like Bhargav.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I wonder if we should be noticing that the Entity took all of Linkara's normal cast except for Iron Liz (who will probably be saved for last...)

    ... and 90's Kid.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Oh, you people and the entity...

You know that the disappearances of Spoony and Marzgurl are only the tip of the iceberg, right?

How many people disappeared in the AT4W-verse last month without any trace again? One million? (Seriously, I'm not entirely sure right now. But it's more than 999,999.)

    ReplyDelete
  55. Who said the gamer had to be Angry Joe? It's just as likely to go after Bennet the Sage, Lordkat, Benzaie, or most likely... Iron Liz. Being a gamer doesn't refer to video games alone and Iron Liz mentioned in her introduction video she often divides up her spare time to multiple pen and paper games a week. That and since Angry Joe has a satellite, the Entity would have to go off world to get him.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Another stupid Silent Hill comic. Hooray!

...well, it took my mind off my essay. Guess I need the laughs.

Hm. MarzGurl recognized the entity. Interesting...and were those eyes in the static? Hm.

    Heh.

They've met with a terrible fate, haven't they?

    ReplyDelete
  57. That's it Entity! You can take NSD and Harvey, but lay a finger on Spoony and Marzgurl and you're so gonna get it, from ME!!!
Let's see now, Blue Lantern Ring - check, Sonic Screwdriver - check, Phaser Rifle - check, Adamantuim Bullets - check, Personal Shield Generator - check, SWAT Gear - check.
    BRING IT ON!!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. No! Not Nella!

Wait, seeing her reaction, does that mean that the entity is actually Dark Nella?

    ReplyDelete
  59. As sorry, it's actually MarzGurl

Why did I think it was Nella?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Ooh, I have a theory thanks to this video. Is it just me, or does the Entity's noise sound a lot like MarzGirl's "It's you!" but with heavy distortion? Aside from the laughter, anyway.

"It's you! But that's not possible! There's no way you're ME"

    ReplyDelete
  61. Actually, after re-watching the review, I actually have a few questions regarding the comic. Specifically, what was the point of Dahlia and her constantly saying she needed to be worshiped? Is it some kind of commentary on pop singers? Is Scott Ciensen (no idea how to spell it) trying to say that pop idols are worshiped like gods? If so, then what's the point? What about it? For that matter, what was the point of her character altogether? Was she always a demon? Did she become a demon? None of this is elaborated on, her story just sorta...I don't even know what happened to it.

Anyways, on the real problem. The Entity got Marzgurl! Who's next!?

    50 bucks on Phelous.

    ReplyDelete
  62. "50 bucks on Phelous."

    Oh, yeah?
Well I've got 50 quid (GB pounds) on 90's Kid.

PS: The Entity still hasn't responded to my chalenge (read my previous comment).

    ReplyDelete
  63. Hey, Linkara, you should buy Ducktales #5 which comes out today. It's the first part of the crossover story arc with Darkwing Duck.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I have two questions: Have you ever read comics that had absolutely terrible artwork, but were so well-written that you didn't care?

Also, can you recommend any good Transformers comics?

  67. Agh! Another closing credits song I already had!
It's like you're doing it on purpose!

(Um, seriously, I enjoy your Silent Hill reviews. And your others.)

    On the covers controversy:
I'd suggest you review them, if for no other reason than that your audience may have read them as floppies.

(I can think of other reasons, but to my 'mind', that's trumps.)

  68. ive come to the conclusion that this isn't vice - it's demonic necronomicon-revived mati from captain planet.

  69. I'm not too sure it's Ma-Ti, not really. I've had the feeling for a while now that the Entity can posses people, or at least mimic forms. So it may be in his , but it's not really him. I also suspect 90's kid, at some point, was brainwashed, killed then replaced, or possessed. He called at exactly the moment the Entity needed to take out NSD, as well as being close to Harvey when the Entity took Harvey out. Add to that a strange post mentioning that 90's Kid was gone like the others, and we have an interesting twist.

  70. A Silent Hill comic written by Scott Ciencin that isn't completely bad? Does not compute. Must be a ghost writer. Sad thing was, I'd actually gotten my hopes up for a minute, that maybe Scotty could actually tie together his comics so it'd make sense - but, nope. And so that moment in Dead/Alive remains forever dumb.

The guy must really like guns - maybe he wanted to write for Resident Evil but no one had the license? It'd kinda make sense...okay, not really, but it's just a guess.

NOT MARZGURL TOO! SHE'S HIS SISTER FROM ANOTHER MOTHER! ENTITY, YOU ARE GOING DOWN!

  71. ...frak. MarzGurl...no... And on top of the Spoony One, so many At4W side characters, and too many civilians to count...and more are bound to be on the way... Gods...

As a fan watching the show, however, I can't help but think of who would make for an amusing way to go. I'm thinking...

-Phelous. If he's erased, a clone of him walks in, the Entity says its usual cry with an air of confusion and erases it, then another clone walks in, perturbed of course, then the Entity attempts to erase that one, lather rinse repeat.
-Lee. Who thinks that a 2D version of someone crying for help and trying to escape in the manner we've seen with the Entity be fun to watch and horrifying in context? Krangath, it might even be MORE horrifying than standard erasure scenes.
-Characters from Yugioh the Abridged Series. It's not like a few haven't shown up on Channel Awesome shows anyway; I already played out an amusing scene in my head with Bandit Keith and I think it's pretty good.
-Maybe an Entity cameo in a guest strip of Lightbringer?

If I had written this story, I would have Jason meet many victims of the town. He tries to save them all, still recovering from his guilt. After awhile, he keeps seeing all tthese people slowly killed off, while the monster would go easy on him. The guilt of always surviving would eat at him continously, but he still feels enough compassion for the other survivors to swallow this pride. Eventually, it's revealed that all of the survivors are, themselves, abiritions created by the town, representing the guilt he has been facing all this time. “

    Hmm. Nice idea.

...Entity, you sack of Doug Moench's Excrement! Linkara, kick that extradimensional abomination in its ethereal behind for MarzGurl and SpoonyClone!”

...actually, that's the real Spoony One. Remember the end of the Final Fantasy X review? With Linkara's help, the clone and the original-turned-Black-Lantern were fused together a la that one episode of Star Trek. I'm actually still waiting to see if Spoony retains any Black Lantern traits or powers given the nature of his revival...

  73. Oh good grief, is the former solider in here thinking more inteligably and more solider like than the SEAL team in The Thing From Another World we're currently looking at?

    That's a bit sad, actually.

I know these reviews made you crazy but I enjoy looking back at them. Glad we hit the end though, not sure another Halloween of them would have been good for your health mental or other wise.
