Oddities and Endities

There's A LOT in this one, so check it out behind the cut!

Upcoming Episodes of AT4W

First up, here's the list of upcoming episodes of the show for the next two months!

12/5 – Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan #1
12/12 – Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan #2
12/19 – Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan #3
12/26 – Top 15 Personal Favorite Jokes of AT4W
1/02 – Marville #1
1/09 – Miller Time: Robocop vs. the Terminator #1
1/16 –New Guardians #1/#3 (haven't decided which of the two I'll look at)
1/23 – 15 Things That are Wrong With Identity Crisis
1/30 – Brute Force #3

And yes, before you ask, I know about Frank Miller's latest little epic "Holy Terror" and the idiotic garbage he's been spewing forth from his blog. Holy Terror will get an AT4W eventually, but bear in mind that my cutoff date is a year after release - so it'll be a while before we get to his racist nonsense starring not-Batman.

Also, for those wondering how the storyline ties in to certain things occurring for the fourth anniversary of That Guy With the Glasses or any extra scenes that may or may not exist on the Suburban Knights DVD, all I will say on the subject is that it will all make sense come February when the storyline concludes. That is all.

Lightbringer Returns!

Well, it's been a long time coming, but my webcomic is resuming! Yes, my webcomic that started with poor writing and poor art and now just has poor writing will be returning on December 7th! I have a buffer for a few months along with the new artist Sergio J. A. Ragno III (whose artwork you can find HERE! if you want to take a gander at his awesome work!

History of Power Rangers

Yep, it's that time again - time again to remind you the same thing I remind people every single time I do one of these, that History of Power Rangers has no set schedule and will be updated when I damn well feel like it and that I have a busy life and blah, blah, blah.

Look, I want to get these videos done with as much as the rest of you want to see them. Among the shows I do, History of Power Rangers is actually AS popular as Atop the Fourth Wall, but these things take time. People are trying to get around the "When's the Next History of Power Rangers?" question by asking what episode I'm on on a particular series. You want to know what episode I'm on? Follow my twitter. When I marathon some episodes, I talk all about it. Otherwise continue to be patient. They take time, they take effort. As of this post, I'm on episode 4 of Mystic Force. I have been on episode 4 of Mystic Force for a few months now because of all the other stuff I do. I do want to get these out of the way, if only to finally put History of Power Rangers behind me for a while. I honestly didn't think it would take as long as the project has, but that's life for you. Answers to common questions:

-No, I have not watched the Samurai/RPM team-up. I'm saving it for after I watch RPM.
-Yes I know about the Korean Power Rangers MMO. I don't care; I'm not a gamer. I play ONE MMO and that's Star Trek Online, and even then it's infrequent because I play it more for story then for playing with other people or the like or when I feel the need to unwind, same as when I play Team Fortress 2 and to answer your next question I don't have a favorite class. I play what I feel like playing.
-I currently do not have plans to go to Power Morphicon 2012. Then again, I didn't have plans to go to Power Morphicon in 2010, either, around this time, so we'll see if they invite me again.

And please don't feel I'm directing these remarks at EVERYBODY. People who are asking know who they are and people who aren't should feel smug that they're not bugging me about it.

MSTieCast Episode 5!

I recently appeared on MSTieCast, an MST3K-themed podcast!

You can check it out HERE! We discuss various geeky things, including of course Mystery Science Theater 3000 as well as my early days before I started reviewing comic books, like the fan-MST3K I made in 2005 that I originally built Pollo for!

Just a note, though - I hadn't listened to the theme song I had made for that in so many years that I forgot that I actually used a MIDI for that theme song as opposed to using the ending theme of MST3K like I say in the interview. My mistake. Still, enjoy!

Electric Tale of Pikachu #1 Revised!

Yes, with the help of the awesome Phelous, I have posted the updated Electric tale of Pikachu #1 episode with the effect, proper credits, and a new stinger! I do want to get a commentary for it out soon, but no guarantees about when that'll be. Life is difficult and all that fun stuff. Still, to make it easier on you so you don't have to hunt down the post again, here's the video! The updated effect is in the second story segment and the new stinger is, well, at the end.

I will try to get a split version made ASAP. It's just other stuff takes priority, including the Q&As recorded at Youmacon, which have taken me a bit longer to make because, well, all the other aforementioned busy stuff. Have I mentioned I'm busy? XD

Pollo Contest!

Yeah, that busy part of it ties into this, too. I received roughly 300 entries to the contest and I'm in the process of sifting through all of them and finding the ones that will make it to the next step in evaluation. There are a lot of good entries and it's difficult to choose for some of them.

However, when I have finally picked the winner, I will be posting a video announcing it, as well as it ending with images from every single entry (some easier to do than others due to some very creative ways people made their entries, like making it in comic form or detailed blueprints or multiple entries on the same image). Will it make the video about 10 minutes long? Most likely, but hey, people put work into this and it'll be one way I can thank you all for your hard work and patience.

On a related note, I have not been answering e-mails lately and again, sorry for that. 300 entries to the Pollo Contest and 280 unanswered e-mails from the last three months. Some e-mails may not get a response, partially because I have nothing to say in response (other than my deepfelt thanks for watching and enjoying) or because of previously-stated problems regarding AOL and Comcast e-mail addresses (or lesser-known companies that apparently also had me on their blacklists).

Which brings me to a new point I need to make:

Donation Info

I have a lot of comics. Far too many, in fact. All of my closets have plastic bins containing comics, a lot of which were donated by fans.

And they are, unfortunately, unusable. There's the occasional one where the comic is just in bad shape (I've never run into a single copy of the Power Rangers Movie Comic that was in good shape), but most of the time it's that people want to send me donations of comics that they THINK will be good for the show, but once I actually look over them for one reason or another they're no good.

Sometimes the books just require too much backstory explanation as to why they're bad. And occasionally that works, where character problems are just one of many issues related to why a comic is bad, but most of the time it's useless for a review. As I've said on the show before, the reason why I do so many comics that are the first issue is because it's easier to see why a first issue is bad just jumping into it than issue number 43 or 289. There are exceptions to this, of course. In 2012 we're going to be looking at Superman #701 - and believe me, it's bad without needing to know what happened all 700 issues before it.

Anyway, the point is that I'm getting far, FAR too many donations for me to deal with. I just don't have enough room for all of them and sometimes they end up in the trash if I need to make space (not often, but sometimes). As such, I'm going to finally lay down some ground rules before you e-mail me about donations:

-No more than three comics at a time. Of course there may be exceptions depending on what it is you want to send, but if it's unrelated comics please no more than three that you want to send. On that same note, do not send me an entire series. A miniseries MAYBE depending on what it is, but twenty issues of some random crappy comic is not going to do me any good if I decide I don't want to review it.

-Don't just list the comics. A lot of the time people have just sent me a list of twenty comics they want to donate and just give the names of them. I am not an encyclopedia of comic book knowledge and instantly know what the hell you're talking about if you want to send me X-Men #332 or something. Give me a description, give me an idea of why you think this would make a good episode. I might still turn you down, and for that I'm sorry, but it happens.

-If you want your name in the credits as the person who donated it, please include a post-it note attached the cover of the comic with what name you'd like to be credited as. I really have no qualms with giving credit for a donation, but when I get so many donations, I often won't actually get to reviewing a comic or even taking a look at if it'll make for a good review until half a year later and I've long forgotten who sent it to me. If you want the credit, include some way of identifying that it was you who sent it.

-No good comics. People, I have money. Reviewing comics is my job and I get paid for it. I can buy good comics without your assistance. I appreciate the thought, but a lot of the time they just take up space.

-For the love of God, stop sending me copies of Bloodstrike #1. I have like four or five copies of it now. I'll get to it eventually, I promise.

-If you want to donate something unrelated to comics, I'm not against it, but like everything else, I'd like to know what it is first. The reason I don't post my PO Box is so I don't become the internet's garbage bin.

Oh, and on that note: these rules aren't really applying for all the e-mails I still need to answer, since of course they had no way of knowing I'd be implementing these.

Just a reminder because apparently people don't know, but my e-mail is over on the right there, above the Twitter feed. You can tweet me or e-mail me a question, but please do not leave a question or the like on a video post that has nothing to do with that video. Yeah, I'll see the question, but it makes me a little grumbly when the comments go off on something unrelated to the video when there are easier options to get in touch with me.

Conventions!

Nothing much new to report - you already know I'm coming to MagFest and will be doing another Live Show. I'm in the process of MAYBE going to ConBravo come July, but there is nothing guaranteed just yet. I'll try to keep people up-to-date as things develop in that regard.

That's it for now! I will update with anything else I forgot if I can think of it!

Okay, I am sorry, I might have been a bit of an annoyance, right?

Just a short question: You get paid to do this? That means, that working on TGWTG is a real, "you get money to do that" job, not just a hobby of yours?

That sounds great.

Mike said...

Well there certainly is a lot going on. I am looking forward to the Wrath Of Khan episodes.

The donation rules are good and make sense to me (even if I have nothing to donate).

I would love to see you at ConBravo. We don't get many Channel Awesome folks visiting the Great White North. Hopefully, I won't blow a tire on my way there next year (I missed Spoony, Doug and Joe because of it, I'm still angry at my car).

It is and I love it. ^_^ I'm one of the lucky ones, though, and I've just been lucky enough to gain enough of a fanbase that allows me to do this as a regular job. There are plenty of contributers to TGWTG who unfortunately aren't at that level.

You usually to commentaries at a time if you do that with the electir tale of Pikachu what would the second commentary be?
Of course Electric tale is your longest video ever so I understand why you might do just one this time.
But just to say I would love to hear a commentary for the Linkara lost mini arc (preferably the Ewoks one) with you and that blonde that stole your hat.

For you Wrath of Khan vids are you going to try and top SFdebris review of the film? (seriously that reviews better than the movie)

Oh and carry on being awesome

Sorry, my reporter mode is kicking in... does that mean, that you work on commission-basis? The more comics you review, the more money you get? Sounds pretty awesome nonetheless. Are there some minimal requirements?

Like I said, I am sorry, but, that interests me, and... my reporter sense is tingling. ^^

And you have a lot of work to do - as a Trekkie, I am looking forward to the 5th December - Wrath of Khan, part One - a nice present for the day before St. Nicholas Day. ^^

Well some good info. I still wish I could make it down to Magfest but I would someone to travel with from here in NJ.
Santa The Barbarian I was think of donating but looking at probably wouldn't make a good solo review because of how short it is. It's bad but again wouldn't make a good review by itself. I just wanted to mention that since you mentioned donations.
Storyline as always looking to see where it goes especially with anniversary.
Robocop vs Terminator is obviously the older one from Dark Horse. Dynamite one just recently finished and well that is another story.
Marville. I really don't have much to say about it at the moment. I don't think I even bough the whole thing but was so delayed too.
New Guardians: Either story before SNOW FLAME or after.
Back to Brute Force. That should be interesting.
Oh identity crisis. I think everything that I hated about DC before reboot started with that book.
By the way love the new stinger at the end of Pokemon review. Funny. :)

Oh, I forgot something...
I know, it won`t be possible, but - the Connichi in Kassel is always something great. Or the Comic-Action in Essen. Or the Fedcon in Düsseldorf.

Okay, that is in germany, and travelling there is bordering "impossible", but - I just wanted to let you know, that there would be two Conventions, where I think, you could go there, too.

Last year, there were some comic-authors (international ones) signing comics.

This year, in Düsseldorf, there were a lot of people from Star Trek Franchise (Nicole de Boer, Scott Bakula etc.) - it is definitely an interesting thing.

Nah, not commissions. You know the ad that plays at the beginning of the video, the end of the video, and the little pop-up one at the bottom of the video?

If people allow those to play, I get revenue for it.

Jarkes said...

Huh... the new effects shot wasn't quite as cool as I was expecting... it was just a lot more static appearing when Missingno was going all insane after you logic bombed it.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good effect, and I can understand how hard it must've been to do, but I was expecting something... different.

That Dude From Jersey said...

Okay, you said you are one of the lucky ones to do this as a regular job which is AWESOME! This leads me to my question... The big comic companies all have their Trinity Stable (Marvel: Capt. America, Iron Man, & Thor. DC: Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman). On TGWTG who is the trinity there? My personal pic are (in no particular order) You, The Nostalgia Critic, and a toss up between Nostalgia Chick and Sued but I would like to know your thoughts on it

Lewis Lovhaug said...

"Don't get me wrong, it's a good effect, and I can understand how hard it must've been to do, but I was expecting something... different."

Nooo, that's not it.

Notice the part where Linkara walks completely around 90s Kid?

Seth said...

Hi, I'm not sure what you're email address is otherwise I'd contact you like that. I'm glad you brought up donations, because I recently acquired a good deal of comics from the 1960s and early 70s and stumbled across one you might be interested in. It's the first issue of volume 2 of Blue Beetle, the one where we go from cop-taking-Vitamin-X-2 Dan Garret to archeologist-with-magic-scarab Dan Garrett. I think it'd be good for the next Secret Origins Month. There's lots of silliness, like a six-foot-tall "giant" mummy (that does turn giant later, in fairness, but even when it's short it's described as giant) and atomic missiles that act like ordinary bombs except for the part where they resurrect mummies. Also, a two-man archeological expedition into a war zone.

You can lemme know if you're interested (and, by extension, where to send it) by just commenting on this blog post.

Ah, okay, I got it. Thanks a lot. ^^
Just have one other question - but I honestly have no Idea, to which video I should add it... *shrugs*

Would just be the question, what - in your oppinion - would be the ingredients for a good story, fanfiction, movie or comic-wise... *shrugs*

Looking forward to the future reviews. I understand about time consumption. Finals are coming up and because I can't sit still and finish revising an essay that is due next week (should get to it after Im done here).

Really looking forward to your top 15 list about Identity Crisis. I admit when I first read it, I liked it. But now I do understand your faults with it. I think after watching yours and everyone else's reviews about various forms of media that involve pointless storylines, I understand why it doesn't work. The mystery does present a lot of red herrings and I agree that the rape subplot is ugly and I never like reading about or seeing it in movies or books. I do like some parts of it though. Rag Morales' art for one. Plus, I like the fight scene with Deathstroke (even though there was really no point) and of course the talk about why Super heroes have masks and secret identities for the sake of their loved ones. I think the main problem with the story (and Im sorry if someone else has already pointed this out) is that Brad Meltzer was mainly a thriller 'novelist'. (I can't italicize here). This was one of his first works and he may have had trouble making the transition from mystery to Superhero adventure. This really was a mystery novel in comic book form and not really a super hero story. In the end, I think this would have been better served as an independent graphic novel instead of being something in the DC Universe. That is my main problem with it and I think because of that I haven't read it in a while. That and I hate lazily written Faux-philosophical bull. That's my opinion and Im sticking to it.

Again, if anyone else has pointed this out, I apologize, and for rambling and for the possibility that this may not have anything to do with the entire post.

Jarkes said...

Didn't mean to block your revenue, I love your episodes and hope you can keep it up for a long time.

Why just a top 15 for Identity Crisis and not an actual review? You have been teasing this one for years and I find it rather disappointing that you would get rid of it all this way.
To be honest, for once, I wanted you to fail because I actually like this comic book, and to me, this does seem like an easy way out for you.

Of course, IC has its faults and I am pretty sure I will agree with some of them, but finding just 15 of them in seven issues does not make it a bad comic book series.

Matt said...

Only a list of things wrong with Identity Crisis? I was hoping for a full on review. Still, the lists are fun, and IC is something I think deserves a good ripping more than anything you've done so far purely because of how overrated this piece of garbage it is.

Dan Didio constantly cites this as the story that shaped DC's approach the most in the past few years and he's pretty smug about it. Mind you, Dan's the guy who basically said that he gets to decide if past DC stories are good or not, and thus whether or not he has writers take a shit on them. I kid you not, his excuse for all the characterization and continuity contradictions in Countdown to Infinite Crisis was that he didn't think they were very good so they didn't matter anymore. Using Identity Crisis as his measuring stick for good stories is just another aspect of his heavy-handed, moron approach to being an editor in chief. I'm going to relish watching you take this thing apart piece by piece, exposing the many fundamental flaws in this piece of crap and why DC should not have used it as a template for the past 8 years or so of comics.

Don't get me wrong though, Meltzer CAN write comics; his JLA run was great. But you can VERY EASILY tell IC is his first foray into comics.

The one, JUST ONE redeeming quality of IC are the Mike Turner covers - you have to talk about the Mike Turner covers, I'd love to see what you think of him. Otherwise this story ain't worth the paper it's printed on.

Matt said...

On a side note, now that I know you get more money for those annoying little ads during the vids, I will never close one again.

You're Welcome lol

I hope you know that you achieved a level of awesome usually just reached by icons as Professor Farnsworth or Christopher Lee or the like. While I read your post I heard your voice talking inside my head the whole time.
This either means
a) you've got some kind of telepathy and talk to me over several thousand miles using Comicron 1's Cerebro or
b) I'm listening to too many of your videos.

Since b) obviously is impossible I now know a feature of your spaceship.

Upcoming Episodes: Interesting batch. I'm curious about what they probably changed for TWOK.

History of Power Rangers: As I said after the Wild Storm review. If people get the itch to watch the show, just rewatch the old stuff. It'll take at least a week at a couple of hours a day, but it should hold people over for at least a little while. Usually does so for me when I get that itch.

Completed Effect Shots: I watched it the other day, while waiting for an update on TGWTG. Now I understand why it took you so long to get it done.

Pollo Contest: I would have submitted an entry, but... a hardware failure the weekend the contest ended put the kibosh on that, and unfortunately I could not retrieve what I had done.

As technical achievement is brilliant, as script development and also acting is very poor.

Someday you can be a great director and film maker but as a writer you still have a long way to go Lewis and i blame solo acting on that, you need to learn how to make your character better interact and interact with your self doesn't count.

Please gather at least one or two more persons in those stories, i beg you. You are funny but alone your acting stop to be funny after two or three episodes flying solo with props and mirrors, works good with reviews but not always work well on adventures.

Again on the technical side of this i salute your improvements but again "Lamest Supervillain Ever", in the end great director but poor writer, two and a half stars out of five and that's generous.

The Show must go on, Good luck on that.

Say Lewis, out of curiosity... Why not sell the unusable donation comics to a re-seller like a comic shop that has that service, or "Half Price Books" (if you have them) or something similar?

You could at least make a couple bucks and rid yourself of things you don't need.

Jeremy A. Patterson said...

Hey, Lewis: Will there be a 2012 Trailer?

Also, with Valiant coming back next year, will you be reviewing a Valiant that is not called 'Deathmate' or 'Game Boy'?

Finally, due to Archie Comics bringing the Red Circle heroes back YET AGAIN next year as the 'New Crusaders' (making it the third, fourth, or FIFTH time they were bought back in the past two decade if you count failed attempts and TPB collections), will you review an issue related to some version of these guys in 2012?

I think I see why Linkara chose to review Identity Crisis as a Top 15 instead of his usual three-part review. First of all, Linkara said himself WAY back he's not interested in event comics because they're part of something bigger and have to address it. I dislike Infinite Crisis but I have to admit, it does its job. If I were Linkara, I'd also do a Top 15 on that event. Second, unlike Amazons Attack and Countdown, not EVERYTHING in IC is a complete disaster: you really feel sorry for Ralph Dibny, the moral dilemma is believable (more than Cry for Justice, anyway). Also, Calculator's revival as an evil version of Oracle was a great touch.

So, I'm looking forward to this review and the others, too (More Brute Force! Can this comic top Robo-Bear vs Cyber-Gorilla?)! Keep up the good work, and, don't worry, I gladly watch all the crap Blip throws at me (that I'll never buy, anyway, since I don't live in the US) so our favorite comic book nerd can pay his bills! ^.^

All those Tricorders...well I guess they'll be coming in handy with the Wrath of Khan review coming up and all. Great to see the new parts and can't wait to hear the commentary on the Entity ending. (other than that...yeah, Marville finally comes...oh boy, Marville...)

Take your time with the Power Rangers stuff, Linkara, I'm in no rush. I don't get why people get impatient but unfortunately you can't stop people from being like that. SPD will come when it comes, simple as that.

Boy reading the other posts makes me feel better there are other people out there that don't like things DC have done in recent years. I will save a lot what got to say about Identity Crisis till top 15 list. My problem is beyond the rape. It was stupid but the whole mind wipe thing with zatanna and how dc used it to recon character development was just as bad.

Scott Tibbs said...

It was Identity Crisis that got me back into collecting comics after several years away. I would pick up an issue here or there, but I didn't make a point of going to the comic shop weekly until then.

Nevertheless, I am looking forward to your criticism of it. I like the story, and that's not going to change. But your perspective is always interesting.

Oh dear, Three weeks of wrath of Khan? While I'm looking forward to it--I'm suspecting it's another from that collection you pulled the motion picture comics from--You do realize you are just begging for the inevitable "Khaaaaaaaan!" jokes from commenters?

History of Power Rangers; understandable why you're stalled on it. So much work, so little time.
A top 15 list for an event comic? that should be interesting.
Guess there wasn't a good Christmas Item this year. But seeing good bits showcased isn't bad.

Lizard-Man said...

So I'm guessing you decided that Identity Crisis was too much of a hassle to review in full and you decided "I'm just gonna boil it down to 15 major issues with it that in general make it terrible."

I understand, you don't want to do too many episodes focusing on the storyline, that makes sense. You must have tons of other stories you'd rather be talking about then one you particularly loathe.

In any case, good luck with it.

Hmm is Star Trek II a bad comic or are you just planning on going through all the movie adaptations?

I'm not as keen on the movie as a lot of Star Trek fans, IV, VI, Generations and First Contact all rank above number 2 for me.

Linkara, I started watching TGWTG reviews when someone showed me the first part of History of Power Rangers. Not only did HOPR introduce me to you, but to TGWTG as a whole.

I say this, because in this post, I feel bashed. Your tone during the History of Power Rangers section is much more aggrasive then in the rest of the post.

This is where my problem comes in. I feel like I can't ask you casually how you're doing with the series, because I feel like you associate me with the people who write "MYSTCI FORCE SUXS SKIP IT!!!11!!!1!"

A decent size chunk of your fanbase, myself included, came on when you made HOPR. And of those people, the "Mystci Force Sux" guys are in the minority. And yet, this and the start of the Wild Force review makes at least this viewer feel bad for wanting to see the next part.

The reason why some of us are so concerned and why some pester you is because we love your work, and are scarred that the series is dead. It's been 4 months since Dino Thunder, and you are still barely in Mystic Force. I understand your busy, and that the series has no schedule, but as you said, it's a popular series, and one many of us don't want to see die.

I apologise if I have offended you, and I know you get a lot of stuff about HOPR and questions as to how your doing. Please don't look at mine as a pissed fan venting his rage, but as a concerned fan who doesn't want the series that brought him to these reviews just be kicked to the curb.

Do you know how hard it is to find the Bloodstrike series by any way digital ?

I can find only in torrents and ironically most of the non-torrent ones are "TRANSLATIONS IN PORTUGUESE", i knew my country men were a little bad but not that bad, like pirates but with fine tastes - after that i probably must check the scales again and set the bar a little lower.

Anyway good news: since the Entity is officially dead and no longer linked to your show i hire it and she was more than glad to help me with the next short text show :

"Chronicles That Never Should - Nightmares Below the Fourth Wall!"

Was going to be Linkara's Nightmare but after the after live the Entity has nothing against you anymore because after all you liberate her to pursue new goals and achieve new levels in the God-Like evolutionary scale, in other words : Now she is a whole new being, something she could never should before - probably something is wrong in that sentence but anyway, there is much work to do yet so i need made my backpack and explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new comic book civilizations and stores, to boldly go where never should hasn't gone before reading Rob Liefeld's Mighty Morphing Power Rangers #1 Water&Fireproof Edition.

*Add your own soundtrack after this, is a bumpy road we got.

Hey, Lewis: Will there be a 2012 Trailer?

Also, with Valiant coming back next year, will you be reviewing a Valiant that is not called 'Deathmate' or 'Game Boy'?

Dammit I want Lewis to review Deathmate, I mean it is the crossover event that help cause the great comic crash in the 90's. A crossover between two publishers whose crews did not have a damn clue how the other comic universe worked. Most of all, an issue delayed so long by Rob Liefield, Jim Shooter actually took a plane to the the city Rob lived, knocked on his door and demanded the pages, which Shooter inked himself in his hotel room, before taking a return flight home. Deathmate is the sort of comic event where Lewis could get the entire tgwtg crew to help him review it.

So, wait... You are WITH the occupy movement?

I can understand trashing his hate-on for Muslims but the most recent brew up was a message aimed at OWS:

"Grow a pair and get a job."

Sure he rambles and rants and has the subtly of a eighteen wheeler going down a one way street in the wrong direction and having one's foreign policy belief shaped solely due to 9/11 is childish and wrong headed, but giving him credit when he muses about his first dive into the comics world or telling the hippies to take a shower would be nice.

Then again, that is just me talking.

Speaking of Miller Time, and taking your statement of Miller's last year of worthwhile content as a precise earmark (15 years = everything released in 1996 and beyond), how many additional Miller Time videos are there? Counting everything after that time and taking into account your approach to RoboCop vs. The Terminator, there's about 16-20 more. In addition to that: 3 videos on ASBAR, a video on Bad Boy, 2 videos on the later Martha Washington stories, 3 additional videos on the RoboCop vs. Terminator crossover, two to three videos on the 300 comic, three to five videos on the publication of his RoboCop 2 script and two to three videos on Holy Terror. If I missed anything due to my strict interpreatation of your statement (and viewing Sin City as something you're likely not to touch), identify them if you wish.

And cheers for that statement.HURRAY!!!

Non-ironic and no pun intended Lewis, in times like this people with the strength of character to stand for their beliefs are really hard to find specially among young adults and you made people like me (i'm only 12 years older than you) proud.

Most of the youngsters don't have a mind set of their own - check Michael Bay's audiences for evidences - and of course we have different tastes concerning Frank Miller but not like most on the both sides in debate i know we respect each other despite any divergent opinions.

I like to see you presenting your case at each Miller Time and have fun with all you say even if i disagree about something, in retrospect Kelly - the former Entity or at least one of them, sometimes i'm not sure - had a lot of fun too and that made humanity even more intriguing when under a closer look for her (yes, her, just like Voodoo but with no cannibalistic behavior in self defense yet...i hope).

I can't wait to see the next Miller Time and LMAO all the way until the sad ending when i have to wait another few months for the next Miller Time, i wish that happens more often.

Please make us Millerists proud of having such a worth opinionated reviewer to talk, comment and debate about.

You are a real life superhero and there is no shame in have a different opinion since applied in a civilized manner.

Thanks for the thrilling waiting and countdown, in the hat we trust and the human being under it too.

I have to say Lewis, even if I'm not one of the people who harasses you about HOPR, I'm sorry you have to deal with something like that. All my PR- and Toku-loving friends watch HOPR and we all really enjoy it, and while we eagerly await each new episode we understand that you're a busy guy. Just take your time with it; after all, Power Rangers is nearly 20 years old now, that's not something you can just blitz through.

On a Power Rangers-related note, there's a bit of confusion regarding the next season. Initial casting calls made it plain they were using Goseiger, the angel-themed season from 2010. However, in mid-November there was an internal memo from Saban that has some people thinking they might skip Gosei and go ahead on to Gokaiger, the pirate-themed, 35th anniversary season currently airing. Of course, things are still up in the air, but a lot of Sentai fans would probably prefer they skip Gosei, which was heavily toyetic and kinda dumbed down (the actors said they were told to act like they were speaking to kids) and go with Gokai, which has thus far been pure concentrated awesome. Either way, I guess we'll have to wait and see. And if you already heard about this, I apologize for the old news, I just thought you might be interested.

I really wanted to submit a design to the Pollo contest, but I was just so dang busy with real life and getting things ready for the holidays. :| All I can say is, the plan would have involved taking a lot of random objects from places like Target and cobbling it together to make a robot, just like Crow and Servo.

If you like it you can keep it and not that i care but why the suit turns grey after Kyle receive all six additional rings ? Shouldn't he became something more colorful, bright and luminous ? Or should i add this terrifying shocking vision to Things That Never Should List ?

And after a quick check out on the web: Snowflame only endures for one issue ? Shame on you DC ! This character could be exploited for ages and instead you kill him.

Meanwhile more than twenty years later : "Oh, the irony !" Another New Guardians series at the stretching point of Politically Correct Age, please Lewis start auditions right now, it's about time to someone else ressurect Snowflame.

Meanwhile in Sin City, Maryland/USA, the head quarter of the Frank Miller's Corps people stare at the pages of Holy Terror and debate :

"__Guys, THAT IS BATMAN, AND THAT IS CATWOMAN, AND THAT IS GOTHAM CITY, the great philosopher and poet only change it's names because people from DC Comics are a bunch of pussies and not pussies in a women sense, real women in the words of the great prophet Frank "praise upon his name" Miller has more balls than those guys, and that's why the New 52's Sucks mostly."

"__Yes, yes, but don't worry, the infidel from the Fourth Wall is a hard worker too, he doesn't have his own children to feed yet but at least he has honor and that's something most of the infidels don't have. Anyway, Frank "praise upon his name" is a hard worker too you see, his art work is improving - still oddly - but improving after 30 to 40 years of practice, at least his writing still remain flawless and that's something to cheers about".

"__Do you think the boy will be hard at Robocop vs Terminator" ?

"__Don't be silly fellow Millerist, the fourth wall's keeper will provide to us some laughs at the end despite his blasphemy's rants and oor faith in Miller will be renewed even with the most accurate logical analysis".

"__Yes, that truth"! LOL

"__Have a nice day Tweety, and never forget...(looking straight at her partner before leaving in a interrogative fashion)?"

"__ Obedience without question. Loyalty until the Millerverse come".

"__And...?"

"__Never Surrender, Never Give up, Never Back Down !"

"__And that's my birdy, see you later Tweety."

"Bye Silvester!"

P.S.: Green Lantern Corps ? Bah...bunch of amateurs.

I do create videos for the fans. And the many people who watch Atop the Fourth Wall are also the many people who watch History of Power Rangers.

Subsequently, a majority of the fans seem to like the storylines. And because of the wonderful medium that we have, where you have a progress bar that lets you skip this stuff (much like how TiVo or a DVR lets you skip commercials on TV if there's enough buffer), I don't see my storylines as much of a problem. However, I'm open-minded - please, explain to me how the storylines take away from the reviews.

Justin said...

I always love it when people come to the AT4W homepage just to leave a comment that the storylines take away from the videos. Uh, I could be wrong here, but from what my puny human mind can recall, there have ALWAYS been storylines on AT4W! This isn't some new thing, so what the the hell is the point in complaining about it?

Also, how you can look at the effort, thought, and especially the *time* that goes into a lot of these storylines and not at least have some level of admiration of Lewis' work ethic is just astonishing. Seriously, I wish I could muster that level of devotion to ANY project!

Oh, and you felt like he was lecturing *you* during the HOPR statements, then you are probably who it was targeted at. Do you get asked multiple times on a daily basis if you got finished with one of your hobbies? Probably not. It's not cool to do that.

As far as the post, I actually think that the Entity storyline was very well thought out and had a resolution that was creative, thought-provoking, and well-executed. Look, if someone were to walk up to me and say "a comic-book reviewer that has storylines as part of his reviews recently added MissingNo as a major villain..."

Well, I'd probably still have checked it out in the name of morbid curiosity, but you pulled it off phenomenally.

Yeah, enough gushing. Love AT4W, love HOPR, hell, I even loved the Let's Play from Star Trek! Looking forward to the next one, Lewis!

Cheers!

Those videos are not meant for frivolous fan-service, they are actually more like social service.

I wish there was more Star Trek fans like you are a Power Ranger's Fan Lewis. There are a lot of things people really need to know before complaining about a TV Show, Movie, Comic Book series, etc... be stupid or makes no sense. Not just from a storyline's perspective but also watching and learning about the production values and behind the scenes, you doing for everybody and non-fans included an immense favor when providing the info we don't have and probably never would have in any other way about the show.

I wonder if someday this segment will become big enough for a TGWTG Crossover with each member playing a part like Marsgirl as the first Yellow Ranger but in the actions scenes with Spoony playing the character and so the wackiness begins just to start the curious twisted bits about the real show.

Always a matter of different opinions but i feel cheated by the conclusion, like when watching Eragon ironically i expected more and instead receive and anti-climatic classic Star Trek's solution rip off but that's Lewis problem and that was the way he figured out to solved so let's move on and hope for something better next time.

There is nothing really new to say about that except again cheering for his craftsmanship improvements, if the man can learn with the hardware he can certain get better with the software and that's when the learning curve kicks in.

And on a short notice, tonight at Chronicles That Never Should : All Star Guy Gardner TPB Edition, written by Frank Miller, Art by Howard Chaykin with all Ed Benes Covers.

It's a loosely based 12 issues series of the same 1992 Guy Gardner original series written by Gerard Jones with an up dated concept.

Critics from the parallel universe from where this came from described as "The StripClub Bordello scene from Star Wars Episode 2 meets The StripClub Bordello scene from Star Trek Episode 5 and both Mash up with the Original New York's Time Square from the 70's,80's and early 90's in the 21th Century in Space", parents discretion is advise.

Good ? That awesome, i just can't figured out how Lewis will beat this. I confess i never read that comic and i pretend to do it ASAP but from what i read about it on the wikipedia so far the book looks pretty solid.

As a Miller's promoter and self declared "apologist" in my opinion maybe Lewis should think again and pick up something else like...let me think... Ms. Tree #1-4: "Frank Miller's Famous Detective Pin-Up" (w/a, Eclipse, 1983) or The Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot #1-2 (w, with Geof Darrow, 1995) those are indigestible because the first is early Miller's and the other one has a little kid and a giant robot fighting giant monsters in Japan....face palm... that's so original, i guess this goes along with Frank's less inspired days when he tried to deal with Hollywood and Hollywood fails to him miserably the same way years later Hollywood would fail to protect Grant Morrison's The Invisibles from the Wachoski's rip off with Keanu Reeves and that's a shame.

Come on Lewis it's Robocop vs Terminator from the same guy who wrote Robocop 2 and 3, what's possibly can go wrong with that ?

I hope you put up a good fight because if not the first issue reviewed will be like to see the first fight from Rocky 3 when Clubber Lang beats Rocky with a haymaker in the second round all over again.

Be careful despite the fact the Miller is my Creed so for me he will beat you by split decision anyway.

Right, Justin. I liked the "Lets play" of "Elite Force". ^^Plus the evergreen: "Bees - my god" for Biesman. ^^

I liked the comic, too, although it was... erm... sub-par. Nice gags in it, never the less. ^^

And I really don`t get, why people must say "Come on, work faster" on that kinda stuff. I mean - like Justin correctly put it. It is your hobby. Okay, you get paid for it, but never the less, you started it as your hobby - at least, that is what I am guessing. ^^

Oh - by the way - just an idea popped up in my mind. A crossover between SFdebris and yourself. ^^

Okay- honestly.
It is your hobby, and it should be treated as such. I most surely would loose all fun in writing fanfics, if people would start telling me "Come on, continue writing!"

And - obviously I am part of the majority, because I like the story-plot-arc-parts, you are incorporating into your reviews. Sometimes they are very subtle, and sometimes, they are in it with a bang.

Just a questin in that context:
Was the vanishing of the dancing ninja back in... erm... 2010? 2009? already a part of the "entity is letting people vanish" plot?

Hm... yeah... I think you're right.
It's just you.

No, honestly, I enjoy the storylines of ATFW, I like the Reviews on it's own and I like HOPR.
I never was a Comic Fan, but ATFW made me interested in Comics and raises the wishes of reading good comics.
In contrary, I'm a Power Ranger Fan from my childhood, even though I grew out of watching the show someday, I still like it for nostalgia and I really enjoy HOPR a lot.

But I think that the most important thing is, that the Reviewer, no matter if it's Linkara or the Nostalgia Critic or Angry Joe, or anyone else, has FUN doing the Reviews and the Shows.
Because it's something that shines through. You can't prehend to have fun - you either have it or not. And any stress from the fanbase is something I can't understand, because I think there's a loose in Respect for the Reviewer himself.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not picking on your opinion, everyone has an own opinion and it's fine that way. But I myself would NEVER go so far to say that the Reviewer has to change something just because I don't like it - or has to hurry up with a show just because I enjoy it more. A comment like yours, also in the way you wrote is, simply shows a little low respect. Noone forces you to watch a show if you don't like it, you know...

Also, thanks for the informations about the advertisments, Linkara. I never thought that it could be negativly for the Reviewer if I skip the ads. Won't do this in future ^^
(Maybe I'll use a proxy though, cause I can't stand the advertisment for my country they show atm anymore x_x)

A)I don't understand why people aren't understanding why you can't just post HOPR anytime and be on your merry way, I mean I get it At4W is the main show hell it's on the logo of this site and that takes a good amount of time to make along with any crossover or Con's you'd have to plan for and even when you get to the PR season that you're working on that's alot of footage to edit and a long script to write plot points for said season so all and all alot of work on alot of work will push certain works back like HOPR

B)Also alot of hate on plot lines which I don't really see a problem with I mean is it really that catastrophic that you want a little action or adventure in there work and just to let you know you probably have the most coherent and though plot lines I have see for reviewers (rather then have it as a small joke for one review or just abandon it and never go back to it)

C) Oh and this has nothing to do with what you posted but I find it cool that you get paid to talk about what you hate and what you like that's just plain old awesome.

1/02 – Marville #1--- I was curious of this one since I was the cover and I read the wiki-page on it! From what I understand it's a bunch of what if style shorts!? Also from eBay listings they're kind of high on the price side!

Miller Time: Robocop vs. the Terminator #1--- Awesome! AWESOME! I requested this one a few times! I got the ultra rare TBP of this comic and if you have a copy of this trade it's pretty ceeewwl in how it comes with all this stuff in it like cardboard cutout stand up of the characters! I'd never remove them as it's ruin the book! The story though was very very VERY weird! with time paradoxes out the ass!

New Guardians #1/#3 (haven't decided which of the two I'll look at)--- Well, is this a the same one with the Cocaine power villain!?

15 Things That are Wrong With Identity Crisis--- I can't wait for this one as this comic is famous and I've wanted to read it for years!

Brute Force #3--- this is going to be awesome as the idea of cyborg warrior animals are still cool! I've been tempted to get all 4 comics in this series off eBay since you started reviewing them! 90s Kid should do the review! ;)

Ok, finally finished watching the completed reedited Picachu/Pocemon comic review and I like it! The effect of you walking around yourself was done very well and seamlessly! Also like the ending stinger where you show every one the things that were stated in the credits! And they bunch of Tricorders!
I still didn't recognize in the credits some of the clips or songs you used from where but that's all cool!

On the subject of History of Power Rangers, I am not going to ask about you're thoughts on Samurai. I do have two questions though. First up, what do you think of all the hate it gets because of how people claim it is a cheep carbon copy of Shinkenger? I haven't watched Shinkenger or enough of Samurai to know if that is true or not. My second question, if YOU could write the story for a season or two of Power Rangers what would it be like and would you base it off a Sentai season or simply make it up on you're own? I watched the first Sentai series I have ever seen, Goseiger, the season after Shinkenger, and have begun writing a Power Rangers storyline based on it, and I was wondering what a huge fan of Power Rangers like yourself would do.

oh for crying out loud. linkara, its not your storylines in and of themselves that are the problem. its the constant deluge of villains/bad guys that are outright swiped from other media. lord vyce being a well-intentioned-extremist version of lord zedd, i can handle. but the entity did not need to be fucking missingno, IT NEVER DID. you making the entity missingno is not only lazy since it would have passed just fine as an original concept with no relation to a pokemon glitch, but it destroys your argument in silent hill dead alive about humanizing monsters. the key to an eldrich abomination is that its not something that we as the audience can relate to. we cant relate to a giant all-worlds-consuming beast because it sounds so subtly horrific to us. we can relate to fucking missingno because we saw him all the time when playing old pokemon games. it diminishes the horror of the situation when you reduce a cosmic entity such as, well, the entity into something you can easily capture in a pokeball, store in a box and call it a day.

OK, I've just gotta know how you did the new effect. I'd have assumed greenscreen/chromakey, but the shot was so wide I don't think you'd have one large enough. If it was done through some sort of frame-by-frame cut-and-paste matting effect, I'm *really* impressed, because I didn't see any bob-and-weave or matte lines...

@Jarkes

Yes I am a fan of Frank Miller;

Yes i praised upon his name so much by respect as well for humorous effect upon those who had any complains about him;

And yes my "admiration" for him really borderline into worship and that's why so far i am the first, only and probably last member of the Citizen Miller Corps, an Intergalatic organization of peacekeepers heroes and humanitarian relief peacekeeping armada establishment to maintain peace and justice despite the fact that: a) we rarely leave the planet Earth or even the USandA soil(for budget and limitations regarding locations) or the Milk Way Galaxy for the "Inter" part; B) we have at our disposal a well selected collection of firearms, explosive devices of all kinds( Trilithium and Red Matter included, thanks Mr.Abrams ), and as well a large fleet provided by the greatest manufacturers in America: the Hasbro Company - all Made In China - that also never leaves the ground or the movie set yet to be rented.

And still we are ready as soon i find any sponsorship and willing crew members to follow our motto : NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER, NEVER BACK DOWN and the earlier additional NEVER AGAIN or The FourNevers;

Of course as any prophet and holy man there is little flaws to be acknowledge like The Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot #1-2 (forgive us oh divine one for our weakness and lack of sight on this crap) and the Ms. Tree series (because she is just a woman and not a "Miller" kind of woman that we were going to see later in his career, no excuses on that Frank);

Any way the one among many infidels and apparently the proverbial snake send it to our Eden to tempt us and test our faith know as Lewis Lovhaug while impersonating his fictional persona a.k.a. Linkara has made a great job strengthening our faith at each attempt he made on ruined the great philosopher and his masterpieces. And i personally praise and thank him for every time he does that, it's a social service he provides anytime he expose the weak among the C.M.C. (see-Miller-see, see it ?) ranks, that why i am one if not the only last one with my faith intact, shattered for some brief moments but intact nonetheless.

I hope Lewis made me laugh in the next MillerTime because it's becoming harder for him find any bad on Frank's career, laughable maybe, bad ? Hard to say but i will appreciate any hard work and logical analysis Lewis has to say in the future schedule.

And if you ask why i'm posting this on my vacation it's because i can argue anything i want in my spare time and as a rule until next year i am only commenting retroactively on anything worth it for a comment that was not posted on line by Lewis after 11-29-2011 Oddities and Endities.

Oh an as a final note rumors coming from the Chronicles announce the next greatest Michael Bay's movie to be released on theaters next summer in some parallel realities :

Chronicles That Never Should presents From the director of Transformers, Bad Boys and Armageddon comes the next Marvel Knights movie :

"Michael Bay's NEXT WAVE : AGENTS OF H.A.T.E. in 3-D."

Sadly it's not real but if at least there was a little bird to whisper this idea on Mr.Bay's ear, that's the stuff of nightmares.

And that why we keep it locked below the fourth wall.

Go there and google it for The Awesome - A Michael Bay Dedication's video, i guess Lewis may be screaming after reading this, i don't want him mad on me because i posted another non-automatically link here, just imagine the Next Wave characters there instead of Nick Cage, Bruce Willis, Will Smith and Bay's Cast.

*you mean... Shia Labeouf as Aaron Stack ??? dramatic pause and slowly close up shot ...NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Capt. Sake "Hancock" Mangusto said...

No, i'm just kidding, actually they cast Will Smith as Aaron Stack because of the lack of African American characters on the Next Wave team ???, isn't that AWESOME!!!

*somewhere at the top the fourth wall the young childhood dreams of somebody screams :

__No!...this can't be true...THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE !!!!

...You can relate to an all-powerful, sentient glitch whose very existence distorts the world and whose sole purpose is to consume all reality that enjoys sadistically toying with people just for a laugh at how insignificant they are and that, as established in the episode, COULD NOT be contained in a Pokeball primarily because it is so huge and powerful and has literally consumed most of the earth - not just the people but the planet itself?

You can relate to that?

Well, when I was doing it, I was doing it frame-by-frame, creating a mask that extended entirely around Linkara's body that could be adapted any time he was in front of or behind 90s Kid.

I'm not entirely certain how Phelous did it, but I suspect he used a similar technique... but he's also a hell of a lot more skilled in After Effects than I am, since he also managed to get the shadows of both into it, which I was not having an easy time with.

I dunno anon, I found it pretty damn creepy that the Entity, Missingno or not, has been walking around for almost a year hiding in plain sight AS ONE OF ITS VICTIMS. It especially impressed me personally, since I've noticed that Lewis is very good at giving his characters completely different body language from each other, so watching the Entity AS 90s Kid, it is so obviously NOT 90s Kid, even when we can't see his eyes. If nothing else, it's really unnerving.

All my comics are in Spanish so I'm just going to ask this: "Has someone already sent you a copy of Ultimate Comics: Avengers Vol. 3?"

It was so bad that the local publisher stopped printing it after the first issue due to LOW sales, and I mean it.

"Top 15 Personal Favorite Jokes of AT4W"

Sorry if I sound rude for saying this, but that has to be the stupidest idea of an episode I've ever seen you decide to do. I just don't know how you can make a "Hey gaiz, I'll tell what jokes I made I liek" without looking stupid and/or smug.

Capt. Sake "Hancock" Mangusto said...

@DetectiveZombie

that's easy, Lewis only need to repeat inside his head doing his best fake japanese accent :

"like Hiro on Heroes Season 3....just like Hiro on Heroes Season 3..." you know ? The season when they wipe out his memory and he became a 12 years old or something again ?

The actor Masi Oka said at the time : __"Now i can yell "Yatta!" without felling like an idiot".

Seriously Zombie let the man workout a little off the stream, i know we both will enjoy it.

P.S.: Despite the fact wearing a hat together with a 23rd Century Starfleet uniform made only the uniform look ridiculous and ashamed, if was a shape shifter it could be turned purple.

Above the neck everything else looks perfect in place and merge smoothly with the scene.

Please Lewis, the yellow shirt goes better with the hat, i beg you. Honestly.

The All-New Batman - The Brave and the Bold 11

Seriously, at least a retro Mechakara.

DetectiveZombie: I've seen this basic comment made a couple times and I have to say...doubtful. I'm guessing it's favourite jokes from other people. Your concept of the episode...would come across as smug.

I've considered doing the episode by asking people for THEIR favorite jokes and whatnot, but I haven't decided yet.

Frankly, yes, it's going to be a rushed, easy to make episode, but that's because it's the day after Christmas. I'm going to need to rush it out and get something put together and I'm not going to have enough time to put together a regular one. However, there will be reasoning behind the ones I choose, and no, there will be no running gags. No "I am a Man," no "Bees, My God," no "There is Logic in what he says." The ones I've chosen so far are just the ones that, upon looking back at my episodes, were ones I thought were actually funny or remember making them.

But in some cases it might be good to open the doors to people and have them make their own contributions, especially since I don't have a full 15 yet.

Khan speaking through his mask, Chekov fails to understand and asking him to repeat himself please, that's the joke of the month unless you can overcome yourself with something even more ludicrous.

Volvagia said...

As much as I like your show, I'm going to have to admit I'm probably just watching the storyline portions for the Wrath of Khan reviews. I get it. Watered down Wrath of Khan, probably should have been just one review. And I'm also skipping the smug "favourite jokes I've told" episode if you decide on it. The non-smug option would be either 1. Running down 15 favourite jokes told by others (maybe one or two told by other web reviewers) or shooting a text re-cap.

CaptainCalvinCat said...

No running gags?
Okay, if you'd used the running gags, the video would have been a bit short, wouldn't it? Just "I am a Maaaaan!" and "Bees, my god!" - by the way, I like both of those gags.

So I am really looking forward to see the video.
And - I like to point out, that I liked the movie-uniform with the hat. ^^

But then, I liked the TNG-Uniform with the "Star Trek: Generations" till "Star Trek Voyager"-shaped Communicator and the helmet in "Kickassia", although I am not entirely fond of some of the jokes, there.

By the way, from what movie is that "you incredibly bastard, I read your boooook!"-clip? And why does the actor look like Louis de Funes at the end, where he grimaces?

But, back to topic, I am looking forward, how you want to tell a better joke than the "mubling-Khan"-thingie.

Lewis Lovhaug said...

That would be from the movie "Patton," and he's not grimacing - he's smiling like there's no tomorrow. XD

Any idea for a Valentine's Day special comic book review? Anyway, have you heard about S.L.A.M. (Special Legion Against Monsters) Force by Marvel Comics? Please also review USA Comics (1941) #1 and King Comics #1 (aka the first Flash Gordon comic book)?

Jeremy Aron Patterson. said...

Lewis Lovhaug: The first issue of 'New Guardians' is 40-something pages long and was originally intended to have the 'suggestion for Mature readers' line DC had at the time!

Bryan Magsayo: S.L.A.M. Force was the SECOND attempt at a WCW series from Marvel. Lewis is planning to review an issue of the 1992 WCW series this year!

Also, USA Comics #1 might be a great choice, if only for being the first appearance of The Whizzer!

Honestly, I think you are being a bit unreasonable with actually expecting people not to ask. And I say this as someone who has not asked.

I think you'd do better just to let people know every once in a while, trying to answer the question BEFORE they ask it.

People are just never going to think it's unreasonable to ask you for your progress. Honestly, I don't even think it's unreasonable, I just don't ask because I don't want to make you mad. And quite a lot of people don't care about that.
