Personally I think we should have given the sanctions against Dr. Doom more time.
According to the official map of the Marvel Earth from the Atlas (http://brians-mnm-wiki.wikispaces.com/file/view/marvel_atlas_001_%28of_2%29_002.jpg/134784305/marvel_atlas_001_%28of_2%29_002.jpg), Latveria is in the Balkans. So Spidey gets to Loch Lomond first by going high.
My God, I actually owned this game (and comic). Don't think I ever got the game working, or else the clumsy stupidity made me quit immediately.Honestly, I expected a "Danger! Death Ray" joke, just not that one. XDBTW, isn't there some kind of massive issue with Hobgoblin being part of Doom's goons? I'm not quite sure who was in the suit in 1989, but I have a hard time imagining most of the Hobbys being willing to be someone else's hired goon, even if that someone is Doom.
ell, on behalf of... myself, I don't think you need to apologize, Lewis ^_^. You're being fair and still making jokes at the same time, we've come to expect that. I can't say I speak for everyone but I come for the humor, the analysis and the way you conduct yourself. OK, sycophantic ramblings out of the way..."What sorcery is this?!" is one of my fave things to say, along with variations on this one: "Thing? What be this 'thing' you speaketh of, knave?" Knave needs to come back into fashion. Also, for some reason, I thought Dr. Doom's Revenge was part of the Genesis/NES or even SNES generation. And after that first page of the comic, I vote we call him Victor "Bending" Von Doom or Victor "Bending Rodriguez"
Between Spider-man and Captain America sending two helpless robots on a suicide mission, and the plethora of robots they destroy in the comic and game they might as well have named this "Spider-man & Captain America HATE ROBOTS!".
The comment you put at the end makes me wonder why the Us> hasn't done that to Litarvia in the comics already. Even with diplomatic immunity the U.N. can't let Doom get away with even a fourth of the things he's done.
0:20 - Actually, you did review a game tie-in comic in your world of warcraft review, where the comic affected the universe rather heavily (though your background on the warcraft universe seemed rather limited in that review, so you probably didn't know. The human warrior from that game became the head of the alliance in the second expansion)3:35 that is the single most melodramatic super-villain pose I have EVER seen... Another reason to love doomsie again.5:21 I always love the insane Captain America throws. I may not be american, but I can still appreciate a good breaking of bouncing physics to defeat criminals.7:08 What, he only tried to contact two teams? You live in the marvel universe, man. X-factor should be around. SHIELD is always there. And I'm sure that if you yell loud enough, daredevil will show up.8:43&10:03 Erm, doomsey? In the amount of years you've been doing this, how often has heroes flying over ended well for your plans? Maybe a little less arrogance?13:16 Wait, just america? You'd think that someone who wants to conquer the world would want to conquer the entire, y'know, world.15:22 Not to mention the american nuclear missiles that aren't located in america. The american government had quite a few nukes on mainland europe, while some european governments kept their own supplies.
I took a look at all three versions of the game on YouTube (Amiga version has better graphics and sound) and saw how hilariously bad the fighting engine was in all the versions. At one point in the game, Spidey fights the Hulk. Makes me wonder what bad thing Spidey did to make the Hulk want to kill him?
Don't Feel Bad Linkara, sometimes a good comic is needed once in awhile. Besides whether it's good or bad comics you review I always enjoy the history you provide for them especially if Wikipedia isn't always reliable. And Yes I've finally managed to get a Blogger account...Ironically thanks to the Privacy Change Google made.
Technically speaking, the avengers are a special forces unit and cap in particular is considered a special operative for shield and the US Army.
Verily, methinkth Thor only likes My Little Pony because they made him a pony.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/RaptorRed/Pony/Thor_Pony.png
I can shananagins on your Avengers bit. Iron Man wasn't drinking.
Of note about the game in relation to this is the street punks with the sonic blasters go completely unexplained. The game doesn't appear to address it.Also of note is the comic panel cutscenes, except unlike Phantasy Star (which predates this and has pretty good ones) they are TERRIBLE and flow into eachother and the gameplay very poorly. Of note is after defeating "Hulk", Mysterio shows up and brags to Spiderman about his illusion and gets completely ignored the rest of the game.If you REALLY want to see the whole game, a Longplay is up on Youtube.
You should seriously do the comic- tie-in book for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 if you want a bad comic book.
Don't feel too bad about the lack of truly awful material. Personally, I think we needed at least a month to get over those awful "Youngblood" comics.Though this does make me think of something. You clearly LOVE the Nextwave books, who's canonicity to the rest of the Marvel books are debatable. But here's the thing: Youngblood is pretty much action scene after action scene strung together with weird and somewhat stilted dialogue and the "heroes" are kinda jackasses. And the plot? Paper thin and barely touched on at all. There's just too much emphasis on action and fighting.Well guess what Nextwave Squad's about? An overemphasis on "saving America by beating everything in their path". Lots of fighting and explosions and the plot is...well, paper thin. It's about people on the run from a big evil corp and going to random locations in said big evil corp's itinerary, a plot that really is just an excuse to get these guys to different locations to do lots of fighting.Isn't it KINDA hypocritical to hate Youngblood's constant and near-mindless action scenes and yet to love all of the action in Nextwave just because the whole comic tries to be kind of "refuge in audacity"? Is that why you give the comic a pass, because it comes off as more of a parody and doesn't take itself that seriously?
A game about superhero ghosts haunting a supervillain sounds amazing. Or any story about that, really. Please tell me that's a storyline in *something*?"You're all doing it right now on your own."ASDF GET OUT OF MY HEAD.Dude, Loch Lomond reference? Nice.
I have never been able to understand how Latveria has avoided a NATO invasion followed by Doom being shot while 'resisting arrest'. You want supporter of terrorism, this man IS a terrorist! He has launched multiple attacks on U.S citizens and property, shows no effort to resolve things in courts and through diplomacy and is actually an unbalanced, possibly psychotic criminal. However I have to note that the comic's plot doesn't actually have anything to do with the title. Dr. Doom is not seeking revenge and neither of the heroes has much contact with him.
You should be more carefull with using the acronym "DDR" when you're talking about Latveria and Nazi's shortly afterwards.Just saying.DDR is the german acronym for "Deutsch Demokratische Republik" - the old "german democratic republik". Seeing this followed by a fictive Comic Country placed in East Europe, btw between Serbia, Romania and Hungery according to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latveria), and the naming of Nazis...Let's just say, every german who has no clue about Dance Dance Revolution is very confused afterwards :D(Not to mention that the capital of Latveria seems to be Doomstadt - with "stadt" beeing the german word for "city"... and it sounds strangly similar to "Darmstadt", a huge german city... ....yeah....)
Thor is a brony?! Awesome! Hey Thor, whose your favorite pony?"The Son of Odin is quite fond of the pegasus Derpy Hooves. Though she may appear a fool, her golden mane and command of lightning is worthy of Asgard!"Interesting. Tony how about you?"*hic* Hehe Applejack... I've always liked that name heheheh. *hic*"
5 bucks says next week is just "okay" too. :PThen again, you sound pretty sure about yourself, so I may lose that bet. ^_^You're never going to get over the dreaded "pink energy" are you? :D
Thor is a brony :)
This actually did seem like an ok 80s comic! The artwork was pretty good the coloring was poor in some spots but over all passable to me!Oh, Capt and his pedo-van! I wonder since they gave Capt his motorcycle in First Avenger if he'll get his van in the Avengers Assemble!Ok, I love the Thor and Iron Man as Bronies seen! Even though the general belief if anybody would be one it's Deadpool! So, Doom hates rock&roll!? Damn that sucks I always thought he'd be one of those dictators that it wouldn't be terrible to be ruled over by!Testicles and Superheroes!? Dammit you got some Japan in my peanut-butter!I'd love to see you do a Let's Play of this game still with like Spoony or PUR! I like bagpipes music for some strange reason now!
Ok how do you subscribe to here now!? There's not a box to check anymore and I like getting the emails! Please send me a link or tell me what I gotta do now!? This new set up is messing me up a lot!
Doom is awesome! I mean seriously, the only thing that wasn't good about him was his Movie counterpart, everything else was good, maybe a couple of Comics weren't that good but still, the overall character I like, and the Parody Maximilian made as well...
"Isn't it KINDA hypocritical to hate Youngblood's constant and near-mindless action scenes and yet to love all of the action in Nextwave just because the whole comic tries to be kind of "refuge in audacity"? Is that why you give the comic a pass, because it comes off as more of a parody and doesn't take itself that seriously?"Perhaps. It should be noted that, indeed, Youngblood takes itself far too seriously while Nextwave doesn't. Plus there's honestly more character depth in Nextwave than Youngblood (brief as it may be).
The Avengers too busy on saving the U.S. because they're watching My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic? Can't blame them, it's a good show.Great review.P.S. What are your thoughts on DC officially renaming Captain Marvel to Shazam in the new 52? Reason being is that he's refer to in merchandise so must be called Shazam.
I will now never NOT see Captain America saying "hey get a load of this guy"
You do realize that since this was from the eighties, the My Little Pony cartoon Thor and Tony'd be watching would be G1 and not Friendship is Magic? Then again, considering what the villains were like in G1, especially Tirek, that may not be so far-fetched.
Funny as always. The game this is ties in to looks very generic, so I'm not surprised that you avoided it.What are you thoughts on MLP? You've referenced it a couple times, or are you just poking fun at how absurdly popular it is?You have two Nightcat CDs? Where did you even get those?
Concerning Thor's Love of ponies, I did see on Comic book Resources yesterday a licensed by marvel game card of him riding "Odin's Rainbow Unicorn" Here:http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/2012/03/thor-on-a-unicorn-calling-down-a-rainbow/Thus proving that even Norse gods can still upgrade their awesome points by at least 20% with My Little Pony Friendship is Magic.
Weirdly a card from the new SHS card game has confirmed Thor as a Brony...so you weren't that far off. (still say he's borrowing it from Valkyrie, you know the Norse and their flying horses)Even if the comic didn't really suck, there were just too many good bits, from the random Ninja-Style Dancer at the start to Doom's pink-energy beams and the whole bits with Bush Sr. The game...well considering this was probably about the time of the early Nintendo games for the X-Men (as opposed to the "Pryde of the X-Men" arcade or the Genesis ones), it really does show it really was not ready for Marvel comics and video games to collide...outside Arcade but he sort of was made for it.
Excellent review Linkara ! It's always good to have Dr Doom on the show ! He's one of the greatest hams of all comics (that'd be an excellent idea for a spoof actually ) . Personally I'd go into Cap's Van! I mean it's Cap even in a sparkly cadillac he's still Badass !BTW If Doom hates Rock 'n Roll, that's sad ! But Mr Sinister is a fan of Rob Zombie (He looks like him in AOA ! He unleashed the Zombie fan in him !) & Apocalypse is a fan of Megadeth ( Well in AOA , the sight of the scenery can only be magnified by " Symphony of Destruction"! , Stryfe most certainly a Murderdolls fan & as for Thanos... anything by Veigar. A few things though :I don't think you people but these are the bronies in the Marvel U http://devilkais.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d4q0gkmhttp://devilkais.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=24#/d4nssmkThe next marvel event should be about them !Anyway before I leave here are the news:- Speedball left a message http://devilkais.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=24#/d4p37kh- Doom in all colorshttp://devilkais.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=24#/d4pu7q6- The Next Marvel event ? http://devilkais.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=0#/d4pucxe- Why Hank Pym does not suck ! http://devilkais.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=24#/d4p326x- A reminder of a love story ! http://devilkais.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=24#/d4l751k- MY Master piece in 10 parts ! (this is the first the rest just follows at left ... http://devilkais.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d4q6412 )-To all hunters it's...http://devilkais.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d4q0fxb- To all Wally West fans , take a good look at these guys. because you'll never see them for a while ! http://devilkais.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d4pxf4yBut then again ! Let's end this in song http://devilkais.deviantart.com/journal/Carnage-Rhapsody-song-288328850Cheeeers !Saidi
Well, i think that there is only one thing to say regarding this Tie-In comic. WHY THE HELL DIDNT IT COME WITH A MR.T TRADING CARD.ITS BLASPHEMY I TELL YOU> BLASPHEMY!!!!...............................................................................ps: I liked the review.
"BTW, isn't there some kind of massive issue with Hobgoblin being part of Doom's goons? I'm not quite sure who was in the suit in 1989, but I have a hard time imagining most of the Hobbys being willing to be someone else's hired goon, even if that someone is Doom."Well I dont think there is since the Goblin at the time was Jason Macendale who is pretty much the epitome of hired goon, with the exception of the time he was fused with demogoblin.
So if Doctor Doom's fist commands his country, and his decoder shield commands his Doom Platoon, what does Doctor Doom himself do?
I believe the country lies inbetween the Germany and Austria.
Good god, that game looked boring.By the way, was that Iron Man helmet the voice changer toy?
Pretty enjoyable review. Awesome song playing over the credits.
Wait, the Spider-man and Cap in the plane were actually robots? Did they just pull a Doom on DOOM?
The comic looks more interesting than the game.Fiery Little One
The comic looks okay and Video game graphic wise looks okay. But I have a feeling it made gamers frustrated with the mechanics . I think that Meeting Captain America would be worth fanboying over in the Marvel universe. It's good to see the Ninja style dancer again.
What about the Star Trek Elite Force Comic Review, as a video game tie-in?Anyway I like it when you do some good comics that you can still poke fun at... sometimes they get a little less bogged down then the bad reviews. And sometimes it's nice to give an obscure okay or good comic a chance to stand up and be recognized.Great review, as always.
Any review that actually gets me to laugh is a great review. Well done. There is something I've been meaning to mention for almost as long as you've had a theme song. It's that suitcase you have on your bookshelf (at 1:45 for this episode). It always reminds me of a :3 face right-side up. Just a random bit of trivia, but it's something I can't help but notice every time.
The "supersonic aircraft" looks like a standard issue Avengers Quinjet, actually.
This was a great review, Linkara. Loved the brick pushing bit. And I'm more surprised that Dr. Doom just happened to have the villains on stand by. Like how long were they hanging out there? Does he just call them in when he's doing something really big?And so glad you'll be doing a sucky comic next week. While I've enjoyed your reviews of Mr. T and the like I did notice the last couple weeks that you haven't gotten properly pissed off (can I say that on here) at a comic in a while.
Iron Man just likes to hear Thor's commentary.Did anyone else think the super fast super sonic whatever ship looked like it was made out of marshmallows?
I thought Dr. Doom spoke in the third person... Although now that I think about it I can't actually remember if he did or not in any of the other comics featuring him you've reviewed so far. Also, I was expecting the pink energy to get a call back to the guy with the swirly font of it on his forehead from [generic '90s team comic I don't remember the name offhand], but the Power Rangers reference was a pleasant surprise.
Ahhhhh honest to god good memory's I owned this game back in the days when I had hair and was so excited that my POS computer could run it. Also Lewis Bad Comics should indeed burn Atop The Forth Wall but hey your sanity should also be taken into account by us so the from time to time so-so to not that bad is ok as well we don't need you going all insane.
Nice one , as usual. BTW, I am pretty certain that was mentioned by someone before, but the first time I saw the crotch attack in your opening sequence, I thought it was a colored manga, where the crotch attack is the main method of offense for protagonist, Ultimate Hentai Kamen: http://vavi.ru/lj/ultimate_hentai_kamen.gif. I know better now, but still the resemblance (even of the face marks) is uncanny.
My god... Thor and Iron Man... are BRONIES!*duh-duh-duuuuuuuuuh!!!!*Why is there such a giant surplus of scenes where heores are attacked with pink energy? Maybe it's because pink doesn't happen naturally in nature that often and seeing means some radiation or whatever, but it seems weird that Doom is using the same power that was harnessed in the Pink Power Coin.btw, kidding about the Brony thing. While I'm not a serious hard core fan, I like the show fine myself.
Equine heresy detected in comments section of Atop The Fourth Wall and Avengers Mansion. Purging with fire now.In all seriousness, i've got to agree about the lack of bad comic reviews lately.Variety is good, especially when you can make jokes about overly dramatic dialogue, but a lot of reviews have lacked some of the aweful hillarity which comes from truly bad ones. I'll look forwards to seeing what you produce for next week. Also, did anyone notice a single picture of Dr. Doom in the comic which didn't have him dramatically posing in some way?
Hm...seeing as this comic was published in the 80s, one can assume that Thor and Iron-Man were watching MLP G1 not a bad choice, especially if they watched the original pilot "Rescue from Midnight Castle"It had some pretty good art and animation for it's timewhat the hell em I doing here?
I don't know how far in advance these episodes are made, but I thought it would have been funny if you flashed Gold Digger when talking about terrible comics, just to wind up the people who raged in the comments last time.As for tie in comics, I wonder if you will ever do the Mass Effect, Gears of War or Halo ones. They are either ok or the devils work, but the people who don't like them tend to way into the lore for those games.I'm not sure why the MLP joke was included. "Here's a quick reference to a popular internet meme." with no real context or reason. I think it would have made more sense if they were playing adamantium rage, or perhaps playing cards. It seemed really out of place. A bit like if you cut to them, and Thor said "So the cake IS a lie" or "...I took an arrow to the knee".
Don't feel too bad. I think you need a breather once in a while, especially after an intense finale (or having to deal with an epic fail like Marville). Still, sometimes I wonder if you're going to end up running out of awful comic books to beat down.Anyway, great review. This comic isn't that bad; can't say the same for the game. I mean, it's probably the same slow, repetitive gameplay. The only thing I can think of that's probably worse is ET for Atari (trust me, the Angry Video Game Nerd will be forcing himself through that fail soon).Hopefully, we will see a bad comic next week.
It's official, I think you damaged my lungs from excessive laughing by the time I got to the Avenger's pony joke. Keep it up Lewis, your show has it all, comedy, informative criticism, action, and starships. My favorite web show.
hey linkara you asked what the avengers were doing.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMpBnwE0H8Q&feature=youtu.be&athis is what they were doing. enjoy=)
Don't feel bad, Lewis, your reviews are always worth watching by themselves, and this was no exception. I'm actually impressed to find out that for once, Marvel made a promotional tie-in that didn't insult the reader's intelligence! You know the big irony? Many years later, Marvel would make the much despised Civil War miniseries, where the heroes fought each other for no good reason. Well the VIDEO GAME version of those events, explained the true cause behind them (the nanites in Iron Man's brain, I think) and the resolution had the heroes- including Cap and Spidey- fighting in -Latveria! Now THAT is how a superhero story should work! Leave the lazy moral plots for soap operas! ;)
Good review. But is it ever a smart idea to stick a real life president in a piece of fiction such as this? Maybe kids wont mind but given what a grownup such as myself now knows about politics.....ugh.Also, I kinda see where you're coming from in regards to the lack of horrible comics you have had lately. I myself like watching you steam off about bad writing and artwork particularly in your Mightily Murdered Power Ringers review. Some felt you were too mean but you are an avenger for good taste. Allons-y!
"You know the big irony? Many years later, Marvel would make the much despised Civil War miniseries, where the heroes fought each other for no good reason. Congrats on another great review! \^^/ Dr. Doom likely teaches Yoga to his Doombots, you know, so they can bend like him and no ones the wiser. It's nice to see an ok comic reviewed once in while; they cause less headaches from Picard-style facepalms. X3However, if you want some ideas for bad/hilarious comics, well, why not a PSA like Spiderman, Storm and Powerman--Battle SmokeScreen! Seems it was published in 1982 and reprinted in the format I have ('91) until 1995, then redone in an updated format in later reprints up to 2005.Here's a cover pic: http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/8/2012/01/medium_ced55e44efdc8368dd15d7474bc6fee2.jpgAnother interesting one may be the dual-sided Orkin/Spiderman comic from 1994, subtitled, respectively, "No Job Too Big!/The Bug Stops Here!".Cover pic: http://spiderfan.org/comics/images/spiderman_promo/orkin.jpgAmazingly, there's also a Marvel Comics issue for the formerly Florida Marlins basbeball team mascot, Billy the Marlin, guest starring Spiderman! LOL. I wish i could make that up, but as they say, reality is stranger than fantasy. I know you've mentioned you're not a sports fan, so you may or may not be interested in this one, but I think I'll let the cover decide that: http://spiderfan.org/comics/images/spiderman_promo/marlin.jpgJust looking at it makes me throw my hands in the air and shake my head, while staring incredulously.

XD
"Already reviewed it back in 2009... or possibly 2010, can't remember which. XD"Hah! So you did! Back in November '09 XD And you even mentioned it being a remake, lol. Guess I gotta catch up more on your back logs. Just finished Spoony's up to his last Swat 4 mission recently. Hah! So much to watch, so little time...
If Iron Fist now runs Latveria, does Power Man now run Wakanda?White Rabbit:"that suitcase you have on your bookshelf... always reminds me of a :3 face right-side up."Me too!We need a neutral third party to confirm... I know! Go ask Alice what the dormouse said.If I can't prove I'm not a robot, will Cap and Spidey kill me? :(
I thought that game was awesome when I was 7.So... The lesson here is that 7-year-old Rachel was stupid.
Actually if the map on Latveria's Wikipedia page http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latveria is to be correct, it's apparently located somewhere between Hungurary and Romania. So the answer is no one will make it Scottland (yes, I know that was a joke)Also I wouldn't be surprised if Moarte had some sort of connection to Latveria since his name meas death in Romanian (kind of creepy(and that's saying a lot))
