Oodles and Eendles

Time again to update you people on what's happening!

Some people have said they wanted to be surprised by upcoming episodes, so we're putting them behind the "Read More" button and it'll be several more days before I update the sidebar.

Schedule of Upcoming Episodes
3/26 – Blackweb #1
4/2 – Transformers: Generation 2 #1 (Tentative*)
4/9 – Captain Tax Time #1
4/16 – Superman #701
4/23 – Bloodstrike #1
4/30 – Marville #2
PSA Hell Month
5/7 – The Amazing Spider-Man on Bullying Prevention #1
5/14 – The New Teen Titans Anti-Drug PSA
5/21 – Daredevil vs. Vapora #1
5/28 – Batman: A Word to the Wise

* - It's probably no big secret that it's around this time that I go out of town to film the TGWTG Anniversary. While I'm confident that I'll get two episodes written, recorded, and edited this week in time for it, I haven't read the Transformers comic yet, so it might be something that takes too long, isn't that bad, or doesn't have a lot of joke material. If that's the case, I have two options: try to rush out the crossover I filmed last MAGFest and have that be the episode (the script is finished, just waiting on the voiceover material from the other producers, told them not to rush it since it's waited this long and they've got their own prep to do for the anniversary... though if it comes to this, I'll ask them to hurry). The other option, and more likely one, is that I'll take a written review (most likely the very old Thunderstrike review) and do it as an updated script, which requires less work, but is still a new video.

Pollo Redesign Contest
I have picked out a winner and I've written the script for the winner announcement! Really, it just comes down to time to film and edit it. If I can get it done before the trip, great, otherwise expect it in April. As for when the actual prop will be built and shown on the show, that's a question left to the Prop Lady herself, who's building the thing. XD

History of Power Rangers Update
Aaah, nothing like another History of Power Rangers update where I tell you I'm still working on it. I had hoped to get the thing done with by the end of March, but unfortunately I've just run out of time, especially with the anniversary filming plus I got really badly sick several days ago that made me miss a day and a half worth of work time. It's going to be rough when I get back, too, since it's tax season so I have to focus on getting all that together.

However, the good news that I will tell you on this front is that I've decided NOT to wait until finishing Mystic Force to release the SPD review. The advantage from here on out is that all the seasons are shorter, plus there's only one annual team-up left (ignoring the RPM/Samurai one for the moment) and one of the reasons I wait until finishing the next season usually before releasing the next video is in seeing how the characters evolve in the team-up, which Mystic Force doesn't have, so that isn't a factor. The other reason is usually because I want a season to simmer for a bit and watching the next one helps with that, buuut frankly after so many months of not releasing a HOPR, I think there's been plenty of simmering.

A lot of people have been asking about Samurai and Super Samurai and whether I will be separating them out. Really that depends on Saban. I haven't been able to get a straight answer on whether or not Super Samurai is considered a new season by Saban or not. If it IS a new season, then they will get separate videos. If they aren't, we'll have to wait until Super Samurai is finished.

Conventions
In case you haven't seen this video yet, CONBRAVO!

EDIT: It's a link now because for some reason Blip's latest update is making any video auto-play when the embed code is put on a site, plus the embed code is too big for the blog. Check out the announcement HERE.

In addition, I haven't had time to make formal video announcements for them, but I am ALSO going to Animinneapolis in, well, Minneapolis in late June/early July! It's a local convention for me, but I'll be a guest there doing another live show, plus my friend Will, who plays Snowflame and is the suit actor for Lord Vyce, will be there, too!

And if summertime conventions aren't for you, I've already announced that I shall be returning to Youmacon this November! The event is huge and yep, more live show fun, plus some other stuff that may develop as more guests are signed on.

Come join the fun!

Ah Superman #701, a mixed bag to say the least. Its interesting to see such a big number on this show. Ordinarily we get one shots or Issues #1-3 of a series that was so goofy that it could even last that long.

Captain Tax Time?

This exists?!

Information Geek said...

Looks like a good bunch of episodes coming up. I'm really interested in this Captain Tax Time.

I have a question! DC will be cancelling 6 titles in April and bring 6 new ones in May for their 'Second Wave'. They are: GI Combat, Ravagers, Earth Two, World's Finest, Dial H, and Batman Incorporated. Will you be picking up any of these?

AmuroNT1 said...

I am kind of sad that we won't get HOPR: SPD this month, but you can't help getting sick and all that. Thanks for really trying though.

As near as I can tell, Super Samurai isn't a separate season; they aren't recasting anyone or using footage from another show; for whatever reason they just decided to divide Shinkenger into two 20-episode seasons.

On top of that, we're getting indications that the next season is going to be an adaptation of the anniversary series Gokaiger, and will come out this August supposedly. I really don't know what this means for Goseiger, which is chronologically next but has long been speculated to get skipped because it was a less popular season and heavily focused on the merch. On the other hand, the article about Toei making a Legend War sequence for Power Rangers doesn't say they skipped Gosei, so who knows?

Nevermore said...

Yeah... Transformers: Generation 2 isn't actually that bad. It certainly isn't goofy, and while it suffers somewhat from stereotypical 1990s grittiness, the plotline itself is okay. Nothing I consider AT4W material, really. More like an okay story hidden behind 1990s style "BIG CHAINGUNS AND TEETH" artwork.

Take your time on HOPR, Linkara. I'm one of the very few people who have a lot of patience. All I can say is this:

Be prepared for Operation Overdrive.

Robyn said...

A teen titans anti-drug psa? That... sounds like something you would have to be high to come up with.

And Captain Tax Time? Was this advertised to kids or adults? I mean, I know some teenagers do pay taxes when they live on their own.

Or is this a different sort of tax? So many questions, but all will be answered in due time. Can't wait!

CMWaters said...

Hmm, kinda surprised that you didn't decide to do something Avengers related for the month of May, seeing as the movie comes out that month.

Ah well, still seems like an interesting list there.

And I can't wait for the next HOPR though I have to ask, will you have one of those speeches like you did before the Wild Force and Ninja Storm videos since it's been so long?

Phantom Roxas said...

Wow, a PSA Hell Month? That sounds like a theme I'd like to see you make an annual thing.

Looking forward to the new Pollo!

For some reason, I haven't caught up on HOPR, but I only haven't seen the Ninja Storm and Dino Thunder reviews. SPD doesn't look too bad, but by then I had stopped watching the series completely and resigned myself to thinking "They're STILL making this show?" I've gotten out of that mindset, but I look forward to it nonetheless. I want to know why exactly Operation Overdrive is so reviled beyond Once A Ranger.

Sadly, I won't be able to make it to any of the cons, but I look forward to the next live show.

Lemme guess, the NTT PSA has to do with Speedy. Because his main (read: only) personality traits have been "drug addict" or "former drug addict" since the '70s. DC's creativity is truly boundless!

I guess if you name your hero "Captain Tax Time," you're kind of asking for it...

Rhodoferax said...

I believe I am the third person in the comments to express shock at the existence of a comic called Captain Tax Time. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

Also, I've read Transformers Generation 2 all through, and none of it is really that bad. OK, it's very 90s, but I think that works a bit better when everyone's a robot.

Speaking of Transformers, I'd be interested to see you do Generation 1 #1 for a future Secret Origins Month.

Personally I have a problem with the entirety of Generation Two so I'm curious to see how it shows up (if at all) on AT4W.

dj1107 said...

Transformers G2 huh? I know a few Transformers fans who like that but I'm not going to object it being on this show. I mean hell you've had "decent" comics on this show before, but if you do change it I have a good suggestion: Uncanny X-Men #510 with art done by Greg Land.
Superman #701 You know I was probably the only one who thought "Grounded" was a good idea The motivation behind it was stupid but I would have accepted a story where Superman had to go back to his roots after the New Krypton stuff.
Marville #2 Now here is the main event I did look at "The Marville horror" so I expect plenty of rage.

The only thing on the list I was hoping to see but didn't was Brute Force #4, but that really needs to be saved for a week when we all really need to recover from an attack of crappy comics.

Big TF G2 fan here, so looking at that with some trepidation/anticpation.

Xepscern said...

I'm excited that the SPD review is in the home stretch.

As for the Samurai thing, they are one season. Consider "Samurai" only had ~22 episodes, and it was said that this season (singular) will have the most episodes since Lost Galaxy's 45.

Personally, I think Super Samurai is a BIG improvement to Samurai (more details are in Spoony's forum page under Samurai).

Add me in as another one who thinks that TF: G2 is actually decent. *However*, it's so very, very 90's that it still provides plenty of material for a good riffing; should be a fun episode.

...then again, my favorite Transformers cartoon was Beast Machines, so folks might want to take my opinions on such things with a grain of salt.

Wait a minute, Dardevil vs Vapora? I think I read that one. Yeah, they handed it out during one of the DARE programs back when I was in the 4th grade. Weirdly, that was basically my introduction to Daredevil (and I've been nuetral about him ever since).

HOPR: Well, with all of the outside factors you've been dealing with lately, it comes out when it comes out. As for Samurai vs Super Samurai, I see it as just one season. The only difference is that some characters changed their hair and they all got new upgrades to one degree or another.

Well, that certainly ought to be interesting to see your opinions on it. It had 90s art but it also crossed over with G.I. Joe and made major steps towards fleshing out the origins behind the titular space robots.

Some thoughts:

1) There's a comic called Captain Tax Time? I didn't even know it existed until I heard the name.

2) Ah, yes, Superman 701 -- the start of the Grounded storyline. While the idea of Superman literally walking across America does sound stupid, it's nowhere as bad as oh say Superman at Earth's End and the one where Superman and Big Barda does porn.

3) Wow, more episodes focusing on bad Liefeld comics! Really, looking forward to it.

4) Marville issue 2? Folks, start getting lots of booze cause this is gonna suck . . .

5) A month of PSA Hell -- This is going to be fun! Incidentally, I heard about the New Teen Titans Anti-Drug PSA and I want to see your take on it. Maybe you should bring Arsenal/Roy Harper as a guest star as well.

6) You should consider finishing your little crossover at MAGFest soon. I want to see the whole thing.

HOPR is coming soon. YES!

Every time I hear about {SA Hell I keep wondering if we'll ever see the Young Justice comic where they team up with John Walsh from America's Most Wanted b/c they weren't smart enough to do it on their own.

Not a PSA I know, but might as well be given it's AMW.

As an HOPR fan, take your time. I'm patient. I'm itching for the next episode, but, I want you to do them at your pace, because your pace = good. I remember a big thing was made over the word/thought balloons of the characters. I can't remember the big deal, but one was made. I remember them being freaking (sub real word here) irritating. You might want to look at them. Supposedly (as I remember, there was context.)

"Superman #701? what's that one about?"
It was the start of the Grounded storyline. See Superman decides to walk all across the USA..and thats about it. I haven't read it myself but from what I've heard people didn't like it. I thought it was a pretty neat idea if the motivation were abit different. See the storyline before this was The New Krypton saga were Kandor grew & became New Krypton so Superman had to go there for awhile, It was ultimately destroyed thanks to Zod. So I thought Grounded was essentially Superman trying to get back to his earthly roots but that wasn't the case. Now I'm sure Linkara will bring up that "He shouldn't be doing this because he spent a hell of alot more of his life as a earthling then a kryptonian"

Superman "grounded" is, where he walks all across the united states? Great! I just read a few days earlier, that we get this story in april. ^^Or at least a story, where he is walking - not flying apparently.

Oh, and completely off topic, I have to admit I am pissed.
Pissed at the guys from DC or Marvel or whoever decided, that Stephanie Brown is apparently no batgirl, we need to read more comics from. Gaaagh.

Who was this complete imbacile?
I like Steph Brown as Batgirl. But noooo - we get collected issue 5 next month - and that was it.
Aparently, those were the same nutjobs, who decided, that no one would like to read about the Birds of prey, because the story was cancelled, too.

And then I hear from a good friend of mine, that gotham city sirens is cancelled, too.

Okay, -that is it, officially. I will buy 3 more comic-books, the last issues of the sirens and batgirl, as well as Flashpoint, where Wondy is playing a role, and then i am done.

I mean, why should I buy comics, about people, I don't care about?

I care about tough, sexy, independent, strong women - like I said, I like Batgirl, I like the Sirens, i like the Birds and I like Wondy.

But when the comic-market does not want to tell interesting stories about them (or stories at all) - well, I can invest my Euros in other media or can put the money to the bank.

Never the less, I will continue watching the bad burning storys atop the fourth wall - that is clear, because I feel well entertained. Sometimes the show is not that funny, but - that is okay.

And - I have to admit - i am curious: What the heck is "Captain Tax Time"? Is he the colleague of "Admiral Taxman" or is it a public-relation-comic for a tax-calculating-programme?

For HOPR, I'm pretty sure Super Samurai is it's own season and I already consider Mystic Force So Bad, It's Good. Not looking forward to the madness that is Operation Overdrive once I watch the season then the review.

Superman: Grounded. Well, I will be interested to know what you think. Then again, knowing this show, I can predict the three words that you will utter after finishing it. By the way, I know that you do not like it when Superman is shown as feeling isolated and cut off from humanity and all that, but given the storyline that came before this issue, it is kind of understandable. Anyhoo, cannot wait to see the upcoming episodes.

More of Marville? Oh dear... better get your booze ready. Also, I'm glad with shorter season with no team ups, admittedly that disappointed me, we won't have to wait that much longer, that said, I understand when stuff happens.

Count me as one of those whose a fan of Transformers Generation 2, it has plenty of Furmanisms, and it's very 90s but it's definitely not a bad comic.

If you're looking for a Transformers comic to review I have three suggestions:

One is Transformers #31 "The Carwash of Doom" where the Decepticons brainwash people into giving them car fuel at a carwash...

Another is UK Transformers #234, Prime's Rib where Arcee is created to appease angry feminists.

And finally... Transformers/New Avengers where the Decepticons use Spider-man's blood to make the ultimate Energon.

Now the latter two I had planned on reviewing for my own show when I get it up and running... but I'm more then happy to send you a copy of Transformers #31, or Transformers/New Avengers if they tickle your fancy.

Actually, my hope was to get the next History of Power Rangers finished and post it up on April Fool's Day, since that's what I did two years ago when I first did the series, buuut again, I'm still actually editing the episodes as we speak, so there won't be anything this year.

"I reiterate I don't want people to track down those books because they wheren't very good"

Well, look at it this way. Half of self-published books suck balls, and about 47% are ok, 2.5% are good, and less than 1% are great. As it is I saw one of those books rank something like 8,100, just outside what is considered the "midlist". This suggests that those books are at least ok. And the Amazon ratings prove that (3.5/5 Stars is not bad. There are certaintly worse books out there).
And what is this of giving away a Book 4 for free in a PDF format? I mean once you fix up Books 1-2 I don't see the need to hide them. And if Book 4 is supposedly the best, wouldn't you want it available in all Publication options?

Given that there was no distinctive finale to Samurai (there could have beenw ith Deckar's defeat but it kept going for a while after that before Super Samurai) - I
d say theyre on whole entity together.

The only real difference with Super Samurai is it premiered with them getting hnew powerups, so I more or less look at it as a marketing tool, not a seperate season.

But thats just my two cents.

As fro getting HOPR soon, "woohoo!" - I oove your work on HOPR as much, if not more than AT4W, but don't unecessarily rush the production - no one wants an overworked cranky Linkara - especially with the anniversary coming up! In short with that, just do what works best for ya, is what I'm trying to say. :)

Well, let me just put it this way. I'm a pretty lenient PR fan, especially compared to others out there. While each season does rate either higher or lower on my favourites list, I have liked and enjoyed them all. I have never actually disliked a season, including Samurai, simply taking my lesser liked seasons to be the mindless entertainment they are and just going with that. That is, except for Operation Overdrive, the one and, so far, only season of Power Rangers that I have ever actually disliked.

Take that to mean what you want it to.

Not sure if it violates the "no webcomics" rule given the older strips are on their website now.

What about the Harley-Davidson Avengers comic, 'Avengers: Heroes Arise' for next year?

It introduced new motorcycle-riding heroes called 'Road Force'!
