  1. I've been going through a lot of Tales from the Crypt this month... watched the two British movies from the 70s (Vault of Horror has Tom Baker of Doctor Who fame in it), both of those have major issues with the bridging narrative though. I don't want to spoil for those who haven't seen them but let's just say that at least one person in each movie seems to be too innocent to be included with the rest of the people.

I think my favorite incarnation is the Cryptkeeper cartoon just because I grew up with it... but I'm starting to track down the EC stuff now, as it is excellent.

  2. Didn't some of the post censorship Tales from the Crypt comics start showing the Crypt Keeper as undead partly in protest of the restrictions? I'm fairly certain he lost his fuller nose before HBO get a hold of the property.

I was beginning to think you were saving Tales from the Crypt as the Grand Finale for the Long Box. Always great to see it.

  3. I guess there is Tales from the Crypt in the Long Box.

Which of course is great to see.

I think I like the TV series Crypt Keeper the best, partially because I've seen more eps than read the comics but also, he's got a scary to him for being undead vs. the original who sometime just feels like some creepy old dude, but a different kind of creepy.

And this is why I don't write comics, my sentences go on forever.

Nice touch on the ending line today.

  4. An interesting origin story
reminds me of Irwin from Grim Adventures

And to be fair, seeing the political situation of those days, the censorship would pass one way or another
American democracy went down hill after WW2, and it still did not recover
Nowadays many post-communist countries are more democratic than the US (when ACTA, the international version of SOPA, was released, the post-communist countries were the first to oppose it)

  5. I've been wanting to read those comics since day one when I watched the show in 2005 when I obtained the seasons one and two DVD sets.

I saw the documentary too and I really like the people who worked on the comics and it's sad to see that their work was flushed away when Congress made a big fuss over nothing.

I want that Fantagraphics sampler though. It's probably the closet thing to a Tales from the Crypt comic as authentic as paper. Nothing against hardcovers mind you, I just like to have the full experience.

  6. Ooh, I was wondering if you'd get to the old-school EC titles (the first thing to come to mind when I think of horror comics).

Thank you for mentioning into the historical significance of these comics and the great comic scare of the '50s. BTW, don't forget EC is the origin of Mad magazine as well.

I love these comics. I even have some great issues purchased from my local antique store back when it had a fantastic "old comic" section. Seriously, it was like having a comic shop right in the middle of the store!

  7. I'm gonna miss Moarte when he's gone; he's a real treat to watch! Will he be back next year?

How long did it take you to design him? He's really striking, especially since you don't have an accent color like red on the tie or lips. It's subtle and took me a few videos to catch-his lips are black. The entire design is bold, and for whatever stupid reason, those gloves just finish it. They creep me out and I don't know why.

Could... could you sing a little something in it? That would make the internet full of win!

  8. I am Hungarian and I approve of this accent! Unlike Maven's which is more like German. :)

  9. I was just at Hallow Comicfest and there was a stack of this comic. I'll be sure to give it a read thanks to you.

  10. Censorship, the most frightening of concepts.

Also Lower Berth is one of my favorite Tales from the Crypt along with Mute Witness to Murder.

Wait, not even Moarte know his own nationality? Well, Tumblr didn't give him the title of Master of Mystery for nothing, so maybe I should cut back on asking questions and let him be his mysterious self. Or perhaps Moarte has a case of Tommy Wiseau Syndrome.

Eh, I'm just nitpicking. PS Good luck on Season 2, I can't believe it's almost been a year already

  11. I might be sounding like at this point, I just put random comments in these videos a year late ,but a thought just occurred to me: Am I the only one who thinks that Moarte having a Hungarian accent is ironic? I bring this up because from the research I have gathered, Hungaray doesn't really celebrate Halloween, they just celebrate All Saints' Day (since most of them are Christian).

But again I could just be pointlessly rambling (pretty much like every other comment I have ever written), since we still got vampire and werewolf folklore from there, so whatever.

    1. And looking back on that information I wrote a month ago, that seemed pretty pointless
