I know that reviewers consider nitpicking to be "douchy" but you have reviewed fantasy comics in the past. One of your first reviews was a Warcraft comic and you also reviewed The Marrage of Hercules and Xena. Somebody had to say it.
I need to ad my voice to those who are not getting the ads for your work. I got the pre-loading ad but nothing on the commercial break. And this was me viewing it on Blip. For the past few weeks when I view your stuff on your blog I get no ads at all. I don't know if there is a problem with your blog, or Blip, or both. But if you arn't looking into ths (you probably are) then you should.
As for the comic. This is a great example of the Warren Elis School of writting. All the heroes can only speak in one dialect and have one emotion, snark and mildly pissed off. In books like this I sometimes end up rooting for the villain because they attlest have motivation and emotional range. The fact that books are still written this way and it's still considered "clever" and "Edgy" depresses me. At least Frank Miller gives his heroes multiple emotions.
Yeah it could have been a better comic but this episode has made me feel alot better after seeing that horrible live action king of fighters movie(Urggh.
& Also after seeing the tweets posted concerning the "Longbox of the Damned" What more can I do besides rise my fist into the air?
It's "Ragnarok". One word. Also, I'm pretty sure Baldur is the first of the Aesir to die, but my Norse mythology knowledge isn't that great. I do know that a lot of other stuff happens beforehand, like Fenrir being set loose, the giants going on a rampage, that sort of thing.
The ravens' names are Huginn and Munnin(Thought and Memory). Phobos and Deimos are from Greek mythology. /nitpick over
So Zolastraya is unbeatable-unless she's grabbed by the upper arm, which renders her helpless. God I hate that trope. Lady, your legs are still free! Plus, you're a flipping GODDESS. Not only that, you're a NORSE goddess. These women took no shit!
Someone seem to not know their nordic mythology while trying to write a comic about it... Most notably the fact that Ymir is the first of the giants and whose corpse ended up shaping our world. His flesh became soil, his blood the oceans and his skin as a carpet high up in the sky. And his eyelashes became the barrier that separated outgaard from middle earth. This guy should be SOOOOO dead in this comic and yet... there he is... At least smite had the excuse of a world wide end of the world, time and space bending battle to explain ymirs existence...
Actually it's ragnarök, with the "ö" pronounced roughly like the u in turn. It means "passing of the powers" or "final fate of the Gods". It's the same as Wagner's "Götterdämmerung".
Awesome episode with awesome cameos! Though I am a little disappointed that there wasn't a Vincent E.L cameo in which he could accurately pronounce Zölasträya... Then again, since she isn't actually a member of the Norse pantheon I suppose that the English pronunciation might actually fit better than the Swedish one.
I also really hope that you'll review "Goddess, Untold Tales of Zölasträya" #1 as well some time.
What?! You're actually holding out on us with History of the Power Rangers?! YOU BASTARD!
jk. =P
I wanna go on an adventure with Linkara and Team Four Star. But let's eat somewhere other than McDonalds. I lost interest with that brand long ago. But, if they're promoting the McRib, I'd be glad to dine on processed swine. ;P I don't have a 3DS but I might invest in one or a WiiU if the new Super Smash Bros turns out good.
Also, like LucasChad asked before, will you do a review of Amazing Spider-Man 2 eventually?
As for her talking to herself out loud... I do that when I am didn't talk to anyone for extended amount of time, day or two. So I can see her talking in the beginning.
How interesting. I've just started a blog reviewing comics and am doing the Cerebus books first, so that little nugget about Dave Sim pleased me. I am a feminist, yet still mostly like those books, apart from the last two. They sucked.
Anyway, I mainly wanted to say, thanks for inspiring me to start my own review blog. Text only, no one needs to see my big fat face blarping on about comics. And also for recommending Nextwave. I love that book. My life has been substantially improved by the addition of Nextwave to it. Your reviews are the highlight of my Mondays now. Cheers!
The whole video I was waiting for an Adventure Time reference and disappointed that it never came. Speak of the devil, please review Adventure Time Spooktacular for Longbox of the Damned.
Also first time commenting. How did it take me this long?
Wow this was one great episode. every time we had a cutaway to a member of team four star interrupting ya was just great. then the end was just icing on the cake.
Well with that aside with Animinne coming up Linkara you planning on playing the Battle City tournament?
At first I thought she was calling the BIRDS poachers, thereby cementing her delusional nature; I totally didn't get that she was supposed to be listening to them. Also, I'm pretty sure she's holding her sword wrong.
I would have called "Bimbos in Time" science fiction instead of fantasy, but then again it's not like it deserves that level of consideration.
Considering that one of the main characters in this is a bard, I would have loved to see a Spoony cameo. He is, after all, a spoony bard himself.
(Also--don't worry, I'm constantly running into myself all the time. You just kinda get used to it.)
So, when Nostalgia Critic meets Doug Walker, it's treated as some sort of grandiose, life-changing event, played up for as much as drama as possible...
...but when Linkara meets Lewis Lovahaug, it's just a throaway joke?
Lewis, why weren't more excited about meeting your character?
As I think about it, Linkara actually did miss out on a mystery that he could have solved...
How in the heck is it that there are three versions of him at the convention (the Trainer, the Champion, and the King)? Did he jump universes or something?!
Admit it GoT fans: you all shouted "OMG it's Brienne!" when she said she didn't like to be called "wench"
Oh, BTW Lewis, I know someone else mentioned this, but I haven't gotten the ads either, specifically on your videos. I've tried Paw's and Brad's and both of them are working fine. It's just yours that's the problem. I hope it gets resolved because I really want to support you and your work!
Not going to question the two Linkaras yelling at Linkara. Oh, yeah as someone else pointed out this isn't your first fantasy comic. It is your first fantasy comic that is set in a original fantasy setting and first black and white independent fantasy comic . The Comic looked okay to me.
I do always love the con episodes simply since they are almost always required to work in some cameos and convention shots and the stuff with TFS and panels did not disappoint. I did have a small face palm moment at the Phobos and Deimos joke though. Not because of you or the joke but against myself for understanding the reference I’m pretty sure you were making.
You have previously established yourself and Linkara as being Randian Capitalists. In a previous comments section, you agreed that the CDC should be privatized to better allocate the commodity of healthcare to the paying market and away from parasitic members of society. Why does your character maintain a government liaison? Would you present a stronger character if you properly rejected criminal government in all capacities?
"You have previously established yourself and Linkara as being Randian Capitalists. 1. No I have not. I am not an Objectivist. I AM a Capitalist.
2. When did I EVER advocate privatizing the CDC?
3. Allan, Linkara's government liaison, was established in the previous storyline and is played by Lanipator. Linkara has a government liaison because he has a big spaceship in orbit with a powerful laser gun pointing down. People get understandably upset about that kind of thing.
That was certainly an interesting comic. It certainly wasn't good, but I'm not sure how quickly I'd call it bad, either. And I really enjoyed the Team Four Star stuff.
After reading John Mourby's comment, I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who hasn't seen ads on your videos lately. At least it's reason to think it may not be on my end. Still, I'd like to try and fix it if there's something I can do.
It amuses me to no end that my nephew left his gas mask on when he turned around during that first panel.
Not sure what it is with the ads not loading, especially since I don't have any blockers up. Though it's that stupid Verizon ad that tries to force you to click stuff, so...
In any case, the art on this comic looks like something someone would've drawn up in their notebook in high school. The only thing missing is the college-rule lines.
Fun little adventure there, even if you just cut in on yourself twice. But hey, a Pokemon game is better sometimes than swords and sorcery and whatnot.
As for the comic...did they really have to make the main character such a B-word? She didn't deserve what she got in some ways but she did in the way she ended up screwing things up regardless. Its just sort of like they want to make her a b-word and a hero yet at the same time victimize her to show her heroism...or something.
I'm sorry but Zolastraya looks like Jem with a sword and sexual harassment. Like your costume a nice balance of black and red fabric (better than some superhero's costumes). Great vid as always.
Nice to see Arthur-Kara again. Shame that he didn't get a musical number again. Zolastraya looks a lot like Taarna. Only with more clothes on. Ironic that a more skimpy dressed white haired woman in an X rated animated film has more personality.....then again unlike Zola here, Taarna never talks. Would that make Zola the Legend Of Zelda Cartoon version of Taarna? Also nice way of using both TFS and your Meta-gag of "Delayed episodes." Fans would either piss themselves laughing or get more pissed off. Great review and hope you do find your adventure. Sometimes if you can't find your adventure outside, you must look within.
I did really enjoy this review; this kind of fun nonsense fits your review style extremely well.
I do have some constructive criticism about this; understandably, it's difficult to know if I'm right to criticize somebody who has been doing this for over five years since they have likely, in that time, heard such criticisms all the time!
The issue I found with this and a only a couple of other comic reviews is that nothing really happens; it seems like the story (ridiculous or not)just gets to begin before the comic end - I know this is what a comic should do in order make you want to carry on reading but it makes me want to carry on reviewing, as it were.
I would suggest that you should mix two or more comics into a single video, which I know you have done before, when you review comics like this. Just until we have one sort of significant even occur.
I know too that people could disagree with me about this and reason that killing poachers, getting kidnapped, threatened with rape, paraded in public, rescued by a bard and killing more poachers is fairly significant. The trouble is, in this instance, we had just met the second main character and they have not yet actually done much together.
I do raise this delicately since I might just be wrong to be bothered at all about such an obscure, poor comic but it's simply because I watch for the review OF the comic, two elements, and the title is "Zolastraya and the bard" yet I don't know a thing about them after a 20+ minute review.
It's just my opinion, like I say, there have not been many occasions where I felt this needed to be changed at all.
Haven´t seen it here and i´m sorry if someone else already pointed it out.
ö, ä and ü are so-called "Umlaute" which are used in the german language.
If you want to know how to pronounce it you can look for the following words:
Müll (Garbage) Möwe (Seagull) Märchen (Fairytail)
However i don´t think the Umlaute were used for pronunciation purposes rather then just cool looking decoration, for example Motörhead also uses the Ö in their bandname but doesn´t pronounce it.
Overall i thought the comic was ok, i kind of liked the artwork it was amateurish but you could see the guy had talent. The writing is ok but the story kind of non existent outside of what little we get.
Any chance you review the "Kung Fu Goofers" comic? The cover looked awesome!
And what's up with her sword? It's like it has two grip stacked on top each other. Must make it pretty awkward to use. Not to mention that parrying could ruin her wrist.
@Unknown:
Not to mention that all these metal umlaut words tend to sound a bit strange if you actually pronounce the umlauts.
Maybe except for Ragnarök, but that's an acutal German word.
It's actually impressive. This is practically the perfect example of amateur writing.
No understanding of how to establish events, set up problems or show fight scenes, having characters randomly say things that have been established, assuming that just because something is strange it means that it is automatically funny, simply using figures from Norse mythology and semi-mythical figures from Welsh mythology and a self insert character who is outright said to be better than all the canon deities.
Were I an English teacher I'd be using this as an example of how someone can read a lot and think to themselves "I can do at least as well as these writers did" without actually understanding why the original writer chose to do something.
Seriously people, there are entire books on all the influences and ideas that Tolkien had that ended up shaping his writing, ranging from Shakespeare to the Anglo-Saxons to Odin himself. Writing, even when you're going for something much simpler, is not just "repeat what so much really good writer did".

No need to worry. ^_^ That's a legitimate opinion and suggestion and I understand where you're coming from.
That being said, it's really a criticism of the comic in itself, wouldn't you say? That in their inaugural issue, you know very little about the title characters, yet are expected to want to keep reading more.
Really the reason why I don't USUALLY cover 2 comics except for special occasions is because I already have enough material for one video of a decent length (about 20 minutes or so), but adding more will make the video into a more unwieldy length both for viewing and editing. However, you do raise a good point and it's something I'll think about for the future. ^_^
Awesome to see Team Fourstar and also your Knightly costume.
For the old black and white comics, how about, "welcome back to Grayscale Theater"? gets the B&W part, doesn't limit it to a year/time frame and can cover a lot of crap.
Also, if you all ever want to Vlog playing pokemon as long as someone is doing some commentary so we know what's going on, I'd love to watch it :D

1. Capitalism is intrinsically about creating the most efficient means of generating wealth for wealth aggregators and stripping value of wealth consumers. Objectivism is Capitalism at its rational conclusion, anything else is merely watered down concessions made to the parasites. Either you are a Randian Anarcho Capitalist, or you are undermining freedom. I trust that you are the former.
2. Your "Zombie Preparedness" comic from the CDC was a clear endorsement that you endorse value aggregation through the elimination of poverty. This means an end to socialized medicine -- and an end to the tyranny of the CDC.
3. The parasites have no right to dictate to those with the means what we can and cannot do. Their fear blinds and binds them to irrational actions. Linkara is a metaphor for the triumph of capitalism over socialists. He should leverage his orbital weapon to dissolve government and establish prosperous anarcho capitalist states.

I have considerably more respect for Objectivism than most people, but do not try my patience. If you wish to see me as undermining freedom, so be it. I say a more moderate view is a much more preferable method of Capitalism than Randian theories.
"2. Your "Zombie Preparedness" comic from the CDC was a clear endorsement that you endorse value aggregation through the elimination of poverty. This means an end to socialized medicine -- and an end to the tyranny of the CDC."
Do not presume to assume anything about my viewpoints or opinions or what I endorse or not. You do not know a damn thing about how I feel about anything. The CDC has absolutely nothing to do with socialized or privatized medicine - it's a government agency concerned with the spread of illness, be it infectious disease or otherwise, and controlling and preventing it, which is necessary for the greater good of ALL people. And if you can't understand why that would be an issue beyond "the parasites" as you so colorfully put it, bear in mind that viruses and diseases MUTATE, so there needs to be a central authority for dealing with the spread of disease so that mutation doesn't occur in a virus and then spread to people already vaccinated from a previous version of a disease who otherwise thought they were safe.
"3. The parasites have no right to dictate to those with the means what we can and cannot do. Their fear blinds and binds them to irrational actions. Don't friggin' tell me what my show is about or what my characters represent. While I will always advocate that power DOES NOT always corrupt, it IS a slippery slope and Linkara has proven before that he is fallible and corruptible.
N, just as I grow weary with asshats making offensive comments regarding friends of mine and just as I grow weary with certain posters trying to constantly post their fanfiction around here, I grow increasingly weary of your rhetoric and your speechifying.
Allow me to make this as clear as possible: this is MY blog and while I am dedicated to allowing everyone the chance to post their opinions, be it negative or otherwise, your own posts have been continually disruptive and now you're trying to dictate to the person who actually makes the damn show what the show is about and what he means and believes. You want to read into it and post theories and whatnot? Great! Make your own blog. But around here, reign it in.
"No need to worry. ^_^ That's a legitimate opinion and suggestion and I understand where you're coming from.

I absolutely agree, I think the character development, or lack there of, was the problem here rather than the method used to review it.
I think it's just with a few exceptions like this that the story line is so thin that you'd even have to adjust the range of issues in order to find a complete event - like you say it DOES depend on the distribution and organization of the story.
You know, Lewis, I wrote a percectly valid explain why Linkara would have a goverment liason. Yes, I know, it's something that again ties your show to the AwesomeTouhuverse, but if you actually posted it, maybe N wouldn't have bothered you and you wouldn't have to deal with him.
Then again, from what I have read of N's previous post, he seems to post this kind of stuff just to get a rise out of you, but who knows...
"You know, Lewis, I wrote a percectly valid explain why Linkara would have a goverment liason. Yes, I know, it's something that again ties your show to the AwesomeTouhuverse, but if you actually posted it, maybe N wouldn't have bothered you and you wouldn't have to deal with him."
I know you did. Except I already HAVE a valid explanation about why Linkara has a government liaison. It's said right in the episode where Allen is explained.
And I've already told you before about posting your fanfiction here. Namely: don't.
Seriously, after watching so many Phelous reviews of "Mortal Kombat Conquest", I'm convinced that Siro and Taja got sent back to the dream dimension by Quan Chi and Shang Tsung, and they both competely forgot who they are, but "Zolastraya" cant help but act like Taja, and "the Bard" can't help but act like Siro.
I guess Ymir is supposed to represent Baron Von Rape, and the two crows are supposed to represent Raiden.
I'm sad I didn't get to go to MME this year. I would've loved to be in on this. Ah well...also I'm betting you're limiting her use, but having Fat Grandma hosting a panel for a third barge-in would've been excessively hilarious.
Also for some reason the last two Youmacons I saw you at, I for some reason didn't get your street pass :( Do you not keep it on?
I know you mostly just get comments after posting a video but as all I have to say ties into the comments on this page so here goes.
1: I'm still getting no ads on your videos. while the Torah(or maybe it was the Talmud) discourage being vocal about giving I've decided to start donating (what I can spare) to you while this going on. With this in mind I was wondering if you are going to start a Patreon campaign? 'Could be useful.
2: Maybe you're already thinking of doing this, but stop talking to N. He's clearly trolling you. I'm sure of this because if I wanted to troll you I'd do exactly what he's doing. I'd take your most vocalised political beliefs (feminism and capitalism), exaggerate them to the point of parody, then throw them back at you and claim they were yours. That's what he's doing In my experience most progressives are left wing and most conservative are staunch capitalist. You're a little odd for holding both stances. Seems a little funny that the one guy who also holds these stances and takes both to insane levels happens be a fan of your show which is focused on neither. I smell bull from this guy. I can't imagine why he's doing it but he does and it's about time you stopped reading his posts. I'm just trying to save you wasting time one someone who clearly has some kind of hate on for you.
3: Don't be too harsh on the guys who mention their fanfiction about you. I can see why it annoys you but it comes from a good place. They're just try to show you matter to them. I mention this partly because me a friend of mine are thinking of writing a webcomic which would have you as a major character. I'll learn from history and not bore you with the details, but I do feel a little weird writing fanfiction (it was my friend's idea) about a living person. So I was hoping I could get your blessing on this? Thank you.

Of course, go right ahead. ^_^
The problem is less so much that they mention the fanfic once... but rather that it is ALL they post about. To the point where they are arguing with me about the actual facts of my show because they conflict with the fanfic.
I'm going to be very respectful in saying this; but you do not have the right to identify me with male pronouns. I would ask that, before you assume, you ask for a person's preferred pronouns. Further respect that everyone has the right to identify however that person chooses, so do not assume that anyone's pronouns have remained since the last time you asked.
I really wanted to apologize for something. I can't take blip's "click to exit ads." As long as these are being run, I probably won't disable adblock as long as they are a thing. I don't know how much push you have, but if you could try to get them to not have these anymore, it would be appreciated. (I normally don't mind the ads, these are just too invasive for me to tolerate.)
You went an entire comic about asgardian mythology without making a single joke about Marvel's Thor? Didn't expect that. Then again, you're never reviewed any Thor comics other his origin for some reason. Its weird how many of the marvel comics you review have no marvel characters in them (this month is a prime example)and there are some important Marvel characters you barely touch.
Acually, John is right, Lewis. It was never my intention to upset you or make you mad. It's just that, due to my writings, a lot of things that seemingly make no sense in your show (like Linkara having a goverment liason, Linkara's behavior in this episode and Linkara seeing "himself") have a perfectly valid explanation in the AwesomeTouhouverse.
Now that I know it sets you off, I won't post AwesomeTohouverse stuff here again.
However, I want to point that "The Goverment" (and really, you couldn't come up with a better name for the empire opressing the Gunslinger's home dimension?) still has a non-AwesomeTouhouverse reason to go after Linkara. Mainly, that Linkara gives shelter and protection to the Gunslinger, which makes him an enemy of "The Goverment".
Likewise, you yet have no explain why Lord Vyce never tried to conquer/destroy the Gunsliger's home dimension, or if "The Goverment" and Lord Vyce are aware of each other.

Except there are perfectly valid reasons for both, one of which HAS already been said.
Why a government liaison? Because Linkara owns Comicron One and has fought multiple threats to national security. The deal is they won't interfere or insist on any tech handed over to them, but they want regular updates on what's happening. That's been perfectly clear from the get-go.
And why Linkara could see himself on the panels in this episode?
RULE. OF. FUNNY.
It's not meant to be taken seriously. IT'S A JOKE. It will never be brought up again. And if you REALLY need an explanation: plot hole. Done.
"However, I want to point that "The Goverment" (and really, you couldn't come up with a better name for the empire opressing the Gunslinger's home dimension?) still has a non-AwesomeTouhouverse reason to go after Linkara. That's because it's not some "evil empire" or the like. The United States government in his home universe simply went overboard with their laws and became a more oppressive state. It's as simple as that.
"Likewise, you yet have no explain why Lord Vyce never tried to conquer/destroy the Gunsliger's home dimension, or if "The Goverment" and Lord Vyce are aware of each other."
Yes I do. Because the Entity never went to his universe. Lord Vyce was following the Entity as it hopped from universe to universe. He conquered the worlds that the Entity infected in order to more easily identify who it was possessing, then left Shades in charge in his absence when the Entity fled to another universe. Simple as that.
One of my favourite fantasy book serieses is Spellsinger by Alan Dean Foster. Its main character uses the power of rock all the time! (I remember him singing Are You Experienced? by Jimi and Killer Queen by Queen, for example. His first officer stayed drunk when he called up a ship with Sloop John B.)
An anonymous poster tried to add Demon Knights to the list of fantasy comics you've reviewed. I'm going to give you that one, because you didn't actually review it per se - just added it to the list of Nu 52 things you actually liked.
If you mean the flute music, it's labeled in my Ren and Stimpy music as "Canterbury Tales" without a composer. Naturally this has made it very difficult to actually identify its real name or any details about it.
I think I just got a sense of Linkception at the end of the video!
ReplyDeleteI hope you're planning on doing another Vlog with Pat the NES Punk on The Amazing Spider-Man 2!
ReplyDeleteI know that reviewers consider nitpicking to be "douchy" but you have reviewed fantasy comics in the past.
Screw-Up: 1st ever fantasy comic? I got two: World of Warcraft. Oh wait, three: The Marriage of Hercules and Xena.
ReplyDeleteGood thing you didn't bother with a grammar error count in this one: You would've broken it.
ReplyDelete"I have a lute!" ...oh how I wish you read Order of the Stick right now. SO many jokes...
Twin clones of Linkara? It's Superman At Earth's End again! AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!
ReplyDeleteYeah it could have been a better comic but this episode has made me feel alot better after seeing that horrible live action king of fighters movie(Urggh.
ReplyDelete& Also after seeing the tweets posted concerning the "Longbox of the Damned" What more can I do besides rise my fist into the air?
On the title card, who was the rightmost person? I recognised anyone else.

Very funny review of a very silly comic.
Oh, the typos. "Thier" and "Hel" should've been "Kewl" by this show's standards.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous said... Oh, the typos. "Thier" and "Hel" should've been "Kewl" by this show's standards.
ReplyDeleteThier, yes, but "Hel" could possibly be referring to the Norse goddess of the Underworld.
ReplyDeleteActually it's ragnarök, with the "ö" pronounced roughly like the u in turn. It means "passing of the powers" or "final fate of the Gods". It's the same as Wagner's "Götterdämmerung".
ReplyDeleteAwesome episode with awesome cameos! Though I am a little disappointed that there wasn't a Vincent E.L cameo in which he could accurately pronounce Zölasträya... Then again, since she isn't actually a member of the Norse pantheon I suppose that the English pronunciation might actually fit better than the Swedish one.
ReplyDeleteI also really hope that you'll review "Goddess, Untold Tales of Zölasträya" #1 as well some time.
Everyone called me crazy, but I knew you were purposefully withholding HoPR from us! Same as TFS! Now who's the one laughing!
ReplyDeleteNow I just need to finish my death ray / burrito maker and my revenge will be complete!
What?! You're actually holding out on us with History of the Power Rangers?! YOU BASTARD!
ReplyDeletejk. =P
I almost expected to hear "What time is it?"
ReplyDeleteAs for her talking to herself out loud... I do that when I am didn't talk to anyone for extended amount of time, day or two. So I can see her talking in the beginning.
Don't the warcraft comics you reviewed a while ago count as fantasy comics?
ReplyDeleteHow interesting. I've just started a blog reviewing comics and am doing the Cerebus books first, so that little nugget about Dave Sim pleased me. I am a feminist, yet still mostly like those books, apart from the last two. They sucked.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I mainly wanted to say, thanks for inspiring me to start my own review blog.
ReplyDeleteAlso first time commenting. How did it take me this long?
Wow this was one great episode. every time we had a cutaway to a member of team four star interrupting ya was just great. then the end was just icing on the cake.
ReplyDeleteWell with that aside with Animinne coming up Linkara you planning on playing the Battle City tournament?
Wow, Linkara and Lewis are two different people? No wonder I've never seen you two together!
ReplyDeleteAt first I thought she was calling the BIRDS poachers, thereby cementing her delusional nature; I totally didn't get that she was supposed to be listening to them. Also, I'm pretty sure she's holding her sword wrong.
ReplyDeleteI would have called "Bimbos in Time" science fiction instead of fantasy, but then again it's not like it deserves that level of consideration.
Considering that one of the main characters in this is a bard, I would have loved to see a Spoony cameo. He is, after all, a spoony bard himself.
(Also--don't worry, I'm constantly running into myself all the time. You just kinda get used to it.)
Great review! this the first at4w episode with lewis in a convention? (not couting crossovers)
ReplyDeleteWow! Linkara met Lewis!! :D and... Antifish also like to make his fans suffer for JJBATAS?
@John Mourby
ReplyDeleteyou do NOT dis Warren Elis
but back on topic
this reminds me of something I would write back when I was 13
So, when Nostalgia Critic meets Doug Walker, it's treated as some sort of grandiose, life-changing event, played up for as much as drama as possible...
ReplyDelete...but when Linkara meets Lewis Lovahaug, it's just a throaway joke?
Lewis, why weren't more excited about meeting your character?
Megan said...I'm pretty sure Baldur is the first of the Aesir to die.
ReplyDeleteAtually Baldur dies long before ragnarok.
Yes! I really can't wait until I can be at home. This will be the perfect way to relax after an AP Psychology final exam.
ReplyDeleteUPDATE: I couldn't post this until after the exam. I am tired. This episode will help me. Have an excellent day, everyone!
As I think about it, Linkara actually did miss out on a mystery that he could have solved...
ReplyDeleteHow in the heck is it that there are three versions of him at the convention (the Trainer, the Champion, and the King)? Did he jump universes or something?!
Isn't Demon Knights (or was I should say) a Sword & Sorcery comic?
ReplyDeleteAdmit it GoT fans: you all shouted "OMG it's Brienne!" when she said she didn't like to be called "wench"
ReplyDeleteOh, BTW Lewis, I know someone else mentioned this, but I haven't gotten the ads either, specifically on your videos. I've tried Paw's and Brad's and both of them are working fine. It's just yours that's the problem. I hope it gets resolved because I really want to support you and your work!
Linkara, has more clones than Officer Jenny and Nurse Joy combined!
ReplyDeleteYo dawg I herd you like Linkara, so Linkara adventures into Linkara's live show and is kicked out, then goes to Linkara's show.
ReplyDeleteNot going to question the two Linkaras yelling at Linkara.
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah as someone else pointed out this isn't your first fantasy comic.
ReplyDeleteYay, new Jontron episode!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm thinking Pollo was the in universe editer, right? Or am I misremembering?
Lewis,
ReplyDeleteYou have previously established yourself and Linkara as being Randian Capitalists.
ReplyDelete1.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading John Mourby's comment, I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who hasn't seen ads on your videos lately. At least it's reason to think it may not be on my end. Still, I'd like to try and fix it if there's something I can do.
that wench think make me think:
ReplyDelete"My name is Brienne!"
It amuses me to no end that my nephew left his gas mask on when he turned around during that first panel.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what it is with the ads not loading, especially since I don't have any blockers up. Though it's that stupid Verizon ad that tries to force you to click stuff, so...
In any case, the art on this comic looks like something someone would've drawn up in their notebook in high school. The only thing missing is the college-rule lines.
He bested you three times with a coat hangar?
ReplyDeleteYou shouldn't have used an all-flying type team against someone who's seen Birdemic.
Fun little adventure there, even if you just cut in on yourself twice. But hey, a Pokemon game is better sometimes than swords and sorcery and whatnot.
ReplyDeleteAs for the comic...did they really have to make the main character such a B-word? She didn't deserve what she got in some ways but she did in the way she ended up screwing things up regardless. Its just sort of like they want to make her a b-word and a hero yet at the same time victimize her to show her heroism...or something.
I'm sorry but Zolastraya looks like Jem with a sword and sexual harassment. Like your costume a nice balance of black and red fabric (better than some superhero's costumes). Great vid as always.
ReplyDeleteNice to see Arthur-Kara again.
ReplyDeleteMan you critics and your power of manifesting personas, that has got to put some strain on he fabric of reality or something.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure the umlauts in Zolastraya are metal umlauts, because Zolastraya is a made up name.
ReplyDeleteI did really enjoy this review; this kind of fun nonsense fits your review style extremely well.
ReplyDeleteI do have some constructive criticism about this; understandably, it's difficult to know if I'm right to criticize somebody who has been doing this for over five years since they have likely, in that time, heard such criticisms all the time!
The issue I found with this and a only a couple of other comic reviews is that nothing really happens; it seems like the story (ridiculous or not)just gets to
begin before the comic end - I know this is what a comic should do in order make you want to carry on reading but it makes me want to carry on reviewing, as it were.
Keep up the good work anyway,
Arcapello
Haven´t seen it here and i´m sorry if someone else already pointed it out.
ReplyDeleteö, ä and ü are so-called "Umlaute" which are used in the german language.
If you want to know how to pronounce it you can look for the following words:
Müll (Garbage)
Möwe (Seagull)
Märchen (Fairytail)
However i don´t think the Umlaute were used for pronunciation purposes rather then just cool looking decoration, for example Motörhead also uses the Ö in their bandname but doesn´t pronounce it.
Overall i thought the comic was ok, i kind of liked the artwork it was amateurish but you could see the guy had talent. The writing is ok but the story kind of non existent outside of what little we get.
Any chance you review the "Kung Fu Goofers" comic? The cover looked awesome!
Indeed, this bard is not spoony enough.
ReplyDeleteAnd what's up with her sword? It's like it has two grip stacked on top each other. Must make it pretty awkward to use. Not to mention that parrying could ruin her wrist.
@Unknown:
Not to mention that all these metal umlaut words tend to sound a bit strange if you actually pronounce the umlauts.
Maybe except for Ragnarök, but that's an acutal German word.
Speaking of black and white independent stuff from the 80s... What are your thoughts on Grendel
ReplyDeleteIt's actually impressive. This is practically the perfect example of amateur writing.
ReplyDeleteNo understanding of how to establish events, set up problems or show fight scenes, having characters randomly say things that have been established, assuming that just because something is strange it means that it is automatically funny, simply using figures from Norse mythology and semi-mythical figures from Welsh mythology and a self insert character who is outright said to be better than all the canon deities.
"I do raise this delicately since I might just be wrong to be bothered at all about such an obscure, poor comic but it's simply because I watch for the review OF the comic, two elements, and the title is "Zolastraya and the bard" yet I don't know a thing about them after a 20+ minute review."
ReplyDeleteNo need to worry.
ReplyDeleteFor the old black and white comics, how about, "welcome back to Grayscale Theater"?
gets the B&W part, doesn't limit it to a year/time frame and can cover a lot of crap.
Also, if you all ever want to Vlog playing pokemon as long as someone is doing some commentary so we know what's going on, I'd love to watch it :D
Based on the title card, I was expecting a giant crossover with the TFS members on the level of the Magfest reviews.

ReplyDeleteI have considerably more respect for Objectivism than most people, but do not try my patience.
Linkara is a metaphor for the triumph of capitalism over socialists. He should leverage his orbital weapon to dissolve government and establish prosperous anarcho capitalist states."
ReplyDeleteThat being said, it's really a criticism of the comic in itself, wouldn't you say? That in their inaugural issue, you know very little about the title characters, yet are expected to want to keep reading more."
Thank you for taking the time to reply.
All the best,
Arcapello
You know, Lewis, I wrote a percectly valid explain why Linkara would have a goverment liason. Yes, I know, it's something that again ties your show to the AwesomeTouhuverse, but if you actually posted it, maybe N wouldn't have bothered you and you wouldn't have to deal with him.
ReplyDeleteThen again, from what I have read of N's previous post, he seems to post this kind of stuff just to get a rise out of you, but who knows...
ReplyDeleteI know you did. Except I already HAVE a valid explanation about why Linkara has a government liaison. It's said right in the episode where Allen is explained.
And I've already told you before about posting your fanfiction here. Namely: don't.
I finally figured it out...
ReplyDeleteZolastraya is Taja, and the Bard is Siro.
I wonder what Phelous thinks of this comic?
I'm sad I didn't get to go to MME this year. I would've loved to be in on this. Ah well...also I'm betting you're limiting her use, but having Fat Grandma hosting a panel for a third barge-in would've been excessively hilarious.
ReplyDeleteAlso for some reason the last two Youmacons I saw you at, I for some reason didn't get your street pass :( Do you not keep it on?
I know you mostly just get comments after posting a video but as all I have to say ties into the comments on this page so here goes.
ReplyDelete1: I'm still getting no ads on your videos. while the Torah(or maybe it was the Talmud) discourage being vocal about giving I've decided to start donating (what I can spare) to you while this going on.
That's what he's doing
In my experience most progressives are left wing and most conservative are staunch capitalist.

ReplyDeleteGreat episode. Loved the guest appearances of Team FourStar.
ReplyDeleteI never really heard of this comic until now. I think you should track down other issues of this obscure fantasy comic.
BTW, any chance we'll be seeing Agent Allen again?
I really wanted to apologize for something. I can't take blip's "click to exit ads." As long as these are being run, I probably won't disable adblock as long as they are a thing. I don't know how much push you have, but if you could try to get them to not have these anymore, it would be appreciated. (I normally don't mind the ads, these are just too invasive for me to tolerate.)
ReplyDeleteYou went an entire comic about asgardian mythology without making a single joke about Marvel's Thor? Didn't expect that. Then again, you're never reviewed any Thor comics other his origin for some reason. Its weird how many of the marvel comics you review have no marvel characters in them (this month is a prime example)and there are some important Marvel characters you barely touch.
ReplyDeleteAcually, John is right, Lewis.
ReplyDeleteNow that I know it sets you off, I won't post AwesomeTohouverse stuff here again.

ReplyDeleteExcept there are perfectly valid reasons for both, one of which HAS already been said.
Mainly, that Linkara gives shelter and protection to the Gunslinger, which makes him an enemy of "The Goverment".
ReplyDeleteAn anonymous poster tried to add Demon Knights to the list of fantasy comics you've reviewed. I'm going to give you that one, because you didn't actually review it per se - just added it to the list of Nu 52 things you actually liked.
~ Mik
Also, to be nitpicky, it was Cameron and not Ferris who didn't want to get up in the morning.
ReplyDelete~ Mik
Does anyone know the song at the end?
ReplyDelete"Does anyone know the song at the end?"
ReplyDeleteIf you mean the flute music, it's labeled in my Ren and Stimpy music as "Canterbury Tales" without a composer. Naturally this has made it very difficult to actually identify its real name or any details about it.
@Lewis:
ReplyDeleteYes, the flute theme :) Thanks alot for replying, it seems as though I have to go on an adventure now, to find and geht that darn song...
