Marvel Team-Up #74

Live from New York, it's a really bizarre team-up!

Great video as always Linkara!!!

I've always preferred Two In One over Team Up because at least Two In One had a few story arc within it's own books. Sure Two In One had some bad guest stars but as a whole I liked it better.

Did you just explain magic?

Nice Review here. A bit strange, but funny. Spidey's an unlucky one, always involved in weird team-up. Between this and transformers, I wonder which one is the most quirky.

Dr Insano? Does that mean...another crossover with Spoony? That's really good news! Is there a link between your new story arc and Spoony's story with the guardian? It may seem weird, but I genuinely wonder about it.

Keep up the good work, and good luck!

Jesse said...

Holy Crap! The Anti-Magic Field thing Dr. Insano is always going on about actually works?!

Someone tell Doctor Light so he can get Zatanna back. I know he's dead, but he'll be back.

Turkish Proverb said...

That...was a strange little comic.

Live action statler and waldorf scare me deeply.

Did not see that ending coming. Nice to get that old enemy tied in again.

Anonymous said...

This story is really starting to juice up.

Also, brilliant Power Rangers Samurai joke!

E. Wilson said...

This may be overthinking the application of the magic, but wouldn't the answer to, "Why not just make a box with a button that says 'Destroy Mecha-kara Forever'?" be that such an item doesn't have a pre-existing representation to draw from? Phasers and sonic screwdrivers may not exist, but the *idea* of them exists. Said box...doesn't.

Also, fun fact: Mary Jane knew that Peter was Spider-Man before their marriage. She actually saw him leave Aunt May's home the night of Uncle Ben's death.

Jarkes said...

Finally, an explanation for all your tech! So it's magic, huh? That doesn't surprise me.

Also, does this mean that Dr. Insano is working for the Gunslinger?

Laughing Hyena said...

So, did you get that magic book off of ebay?

Anonymous said...

I am sorry, but I have to ask. A spell book that actually works. Did you, the character, get it on ebay, or will there be more backstory behind how the book was obtained.

Red Spearow said...

Don't do it Linkara! Your apartment is bugged. When you leave, someone'll break in and steal your magic tome. Someone who knows more about the magic than you do.

It's a trap!

ngrey651 said...

Black. Thor.

...ummmmmmmmm...wait a minute! His color switches to white after that droopy face scene! What the heck!?

It's good to see you expanding on how you do the stuff you do, though. But this IS strange. How did all this happening-ahhhhh. Doctor Insano. OF COURSE! All you need is the most destructive weapon known to man...a BLITZBALL!

Saturday Night Live did help spawn the prime time sketch comedy show craze, which included In Living Color and MAD TV. However, I grew up watching All That on Nickelodeon before knowing SNL's existence. Ironically, Kenan Thompson became part of SNL since 2005.

MichaelJGleason said...

Well, that was a great episode Lewis! Though a crossover I'd like to see is Thor meets Craig Ferguson.

Anonymous said...

So lets recap, during the course of this episode we got:

A pretty interesting comic, nice Dan Ackroyd impression.

Your opinion on SNL...at last the rabid mob is satisfied.

Your ideological stance on the changes in a character's ethnicity and/or sexual

orientation. Which makes me wonder about your opinion on the rewriting of a

character's origin? Example: The Question used to be a reporter/crime fighter

with a specialized mask, but now...ancient spirit that's part of something

called the Trinity of Sin, I don't know it was just in the last Free Comic Book

Day comic.

The source of all your wonderful gadgets (nice averting of the question of "Why

can't you just get rid of all your enemies immediately?" btw).

I'm guessing that Pollo and the Cybermats are still powered by "SCIENCE!" to

explain why at least Pollo is still fully functional.

Special Guest Appearances by: Harvey Finevoice and Dr. Linksano. Its always

good to see them.

And most importantly...an insight into the mind of Stan Lee, I feel the need to

hug him now, but then again, who wouldn't want to hug Stan Lee?

Great episode sir, as always your plotline can only boost what was already a great episode.

Thank you.

Hmmm, magic masquerading as technology. Technology powered by magic. So Linkara the character is a Technomancer. Neat.
An Anti-magic Field generator kit. That...surprisingly makes sense, but it's odd timing that it would come up just then. The Gunslinger's doing? I'd ask why the items while enchanted weren't just replicated to make permanent working versions, but My guess would be that the enchantment only gives the items the powers of what they resemble, and not alter the internal mechanics to match the real article. Magic in literature is known for that form of shortcut, so It'd make sense.

Oh SNL, how the competency has waned. From your review of the comic it seems exceedingly silly, but at least it tells a full story and left a legacy behind.

Sijo said...

Hmm. I remember this comic, but not if I actually had it, or just read it somewhere. Also, back then I had little idea who the NRFPTP were- I didn't have cable then and I didn't watch SNL when I did. I got to know (and like) many of its stars, but later, on other roles (Ghostbusters and such.) Here they were just a bunch of unknown people, and not very funny.

Oh btw Linkara you forgot to mention that the Silver Samurai kept that ring and used it in other stories for years, it wasn't a one-story gimmick. Then again a quick getaway is always useful for a villain. No direct mention of this story however, likely for copyright reasons.

Dammit Linkara, when you want to, your show's story segment is the best written (and acted) of all the TGWTG ones. Now you've got me invested on this! Can't wait to see where it goes!

boooratt said...

Wow, this actually looked like a fun little crossover comic! Don't get me wrong its existence is complete what the fuckery, but I kind of like what of it I got to see and read here! I use to watch SNL mostly reruns of the 80s and 90s runs. I liked watching a lot of the comedians that are famous or notorious today back then when they were a LOT younger doing skits. I also agree with you Linkara on the Celebrity Jeopardy skits they're my favorites! "I'll take "AnAl bum Cover for 500, Alex!"
It is sad though most of the people in this comic now are dead or not doing much anymore!
On the subject of Black Thor that does sound like it'd be a skit on like 80s-90s SNL or MADTV or In Living Color as back then people still had a functioning sense of humor. Doing skit that's entire joke centered around changing the race or orientations of classic-ly white and strait character is/was a very common. Hell, one of my favorite bits from MADTV was Gay-Hulk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dv6gAxM5LgM (One joke being the title was a pun on Grey-Hulk) and I think it was either In Living Color or MADTV again but one of them had a running skit that WAS really funny called Black 3 Stooges(I'm think it was In Living Color because if memory serves me right Damian Wayans was Curly)! Basically they just played up the stereotype of the race or sexuality for comedy! As I said this was back when people had a sense of humor. Sorry i fallow Wreckless Eating on YouTube and they've caught some crap recently for their jokes!
I kind of wish that back when this comic was made that SNL did actually film an episode to go along with it like have the skits interrupted like in the comics, have Stan Lee be the fake Special Guest, and at the end have the final stopped to have a live fight between 2 stuntmen dressed as Spidey and the Silver-Samurai! That would've been awesome! And it would've been that hard to do! I've never been able to see it(as it's not on YouTube and I haven't caught it on any of the reruns I've seen over the years) but one of SNL's more famous nerdier skits was around the time of "The Death of Superman" Arc they did a Superman's Funeral skit in-which heroes from all comics(both DC and MARVEL)spoke at Superman's wake! And the funniest part from what I've read and seen from still images from this skit everybody was dressed up in the costumes the characters would've been wearing at that time in the comics! Like John Steward was in his Mosaic costume!
I also think it'd been a little kewler if Belushi some how defeated Silver-Samurai because the magic-ring(I guess) gave him powers temporarily. Which that does bring something up! Is this comic canon!? Did that magic-ring remain with Silver-Samurai in later comics!? I don't know as the few comics with him I read were old Wolverine comics and in them he was after a magical sword that could cut threw any thing, but you ran the risk of the evil-spirit in it taking over you! Which made no sense to me as Silver-Samurai's powers as I understand them are he can channel Kinetic-Energies threw items such as his regular Samurai sword and cut threw any thing except Wolverine's Adamantium skeleton! He's basically got the same power set as Gambit!
Alrighty then those rants are over!

So now you're left with no "Special" weapons anymore by the looks of things now... So all those discussions last week in the comments are mute now! I was kinda of hoping to see the possibility of human sacrificing to forge new weapons! XD You could've killed Bufo to forge a Clown-Lantern-Power-Ring!
I miss SnowFlame's PSAs already!!! :(

Ok, first of all, I was right all along: the boisterous speech that Linkara gave had NOTHING to do with the malfunction of the Magic Gun.

With that being said, this DOES raise more questions:

1-Didn't Lewis create Linksano so that Insao himself remains mostly a "Spoony Experiment" character? What, he is now OK with using Insano as a regular on his show again?

2-Considering what IS going on in "The Spoony Experiment" right now, and that paying Insano a visit means going to Spoony's place, is Linkara gonna help Spoony fight the Guardian? Even with none of his weapons working, he still wouldn't just stand there with his arms crossed as his friend is tortured by the Guardian.

2-Why would Insano do this to Linkara if he has bigger things to worry about? Meaning, why doesn't he use that Anti-Magic Field Generator (or any of his other inventions) on the Guardian?

3-If all the spell does is plays with the layers of reality, wouldn't negating it:

-turn Comincron One into just a CGI drawing?

-turn Pollo into an inanimate puppet?

-turn Linkara back into Lewis Lovahug?

-make Harvey Finevoice and Linksano dissapear, since they are fictional characters created by Linkara?

4-Why would Insano do this, anyway? I thought his whole "nemesis" thing was Linkara was over! Hell, isn't he supposed to be targeting the title card artists now?

5-How does the Gunslinger fit in all of this? Is he Insano's accomplice? If he isn't, why doesn't Insano use the Gunslinger to kill the Guardian?

6-If Insano is currently in posession of the little girl, why doesn't SHE attack the Guardian?

7-How can this spell mess with the layers of reality if the spell book itself should be just a random book that Lewis uses in his show as a "spell book"?

8-Did Nostalgia Critic use this spell to turn his prop gun into the powerful angel-killing gun we know and love? What about Spoony's own weapons (including, oh I don't know, THE ANTI-MAGIC FIELD GENERATOR ITSELF)?

8-And, elaborating on Harvey's question, why didn't Linkara use this spell to bring a truly powerful item to life? Like the Infinity Gauntlet, the Cosmic Cube, the One Ring, the Ominitrix (and the Ultimatrix) or the Auryn?

ramses said...

Okay, I must say that I'm really looking forward to the rest of your storyline now. It sounds pretty good, and its fun to finally hear the explanation for everything.

The Exiled One said...

On the comic itself:

frankly, it would be more fun if Spidey met the CHARACTERS rather than the actors.

Imagine Spidey meeting Wayne, Garth, the Church Lady, the Ladies Man, the Coneheads, Mr. Peepers, Mango, Superstar, Pat, the Blues Brothers, Stuart Smalley, MacGruber and the "if it's not Scottish, it's crap!" guy.

And I know that I mixed characters from different eras, but I don't care.

I'm liking the new storyline. Glad to see it's exploring some new ground. You have me intrigued with how this is developing. Good to see Harvey, Pollo, & Linksano again. I admit I've not yet seen every episode, and so, I still have some past storyline gaps to fill in. I'll have to track down the episode where the origin of the magic gun is mentioned. I know I haven't gotten through the Silent Hill episodes, yet.

Also, I have a couple of officially released compilation CDs filled with classic television themes. One of them has one of the early SNL themes on it.

"It's magic... but people do like it when you explain it."

Nifty explanation, although now we're all going to be wondering about the origin of the book. And I'm hoping this means some more Spoony crossovers of some kind.

As for the comic itself... just, very strange. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that Marvel comics and Stan Lee exist inside the Marvel universe, and the potential ramifications of this. Then again, I'm not sure Marvel canon was really the first thing on people's minds during this production. Does this Marvel published comics about the real superheroes or are their whole leagues of fictional superheroes inside the fictional universe? Could DC and Marvel be mutually fictional to each other? We have comics inside of comics and we need to go deeper I think. *DAAAHHHHHH

This was one of your best videos for me, all the SNL jokes, the Muppet show jokes, and all the other references.

Also, I totally figured out how all your gadgets worked last week. It was kind of obvious.

Another thing, is "The Gunslinger" the villain's name or are you going to reveal his name later.

Plus, where is 90s Kid, I miss him ever since last October.

Great review, especially the green lantern joke. If Linkara casts spells, does that make him a wizard?

BEST EPISODE EVER!!! Also, nice crossover segue.

Glad you mentioned Miles and Alan, even if the former was the standard "I don't care about the Ultimate Universe."

I love the explanation behind your technology, although I'd like to know how you even got the spell to begin with, and how it ties to the Magic Gun. I especially loved all the Yu-Gi-Oh! references, such as the Duel Disk, Utopia, and I think that was the first volume of the 5D's manga and the second volume of the GX manga on the shelf. Interesting that Insano will finally make his return after so long.

Laughing Hyena said...

For those of you wanting to know more about the little girl and haven't seen any of the Silent Hill comics to marvel at Scott Ciencin's incompetence at writing horror: Click on the "IDW" tag to quickly get to those Oct. reviews. Scroll down past the Star Trek comics IDW published.

It's also where a character obtains an all powerful magic book from ebay. I hope that Linkara puts some story bit on how he obtained the magic book. Would love to see a really silly mock-up ebay listing of the book that makes fun of dead/alive.

Linkara even asks in one of the reviews about any thing else Scott Ciencin wrote that was really bad. I have "proof". The stories and novels he wrote for White Wolf's World of Darkness setting are god-awful.

Crazy56U said...

Please say you'll doe the Avengers/David Letterman crossover comic in the future?

Torkuda said...

I'm sure this will sound accusatory, but it's not really meant to be. Have you ever thought to try to do a story line completely devoid of otherwise copy-written materials? The magic gun, your outfit and a few other weapons in your toy arsenal can't be claimed by anyone outside the show and I kinda wonder why you always seem to references things that distinctly don't belong to you in your original sketches. Heck, even on Vice's ship, which is completely your own creation, you often quote movies.

Lukas said...

One of the weirder set-ups for a team-up yet.

I wanted to comment on your post-video storyline. Or rather, the editing. I want to stress that I'm saying this as constructive criticism. You need to keep a little more attention to the direction of your shots. The entire discussion between Linkara, Harvey and Pollo felt off, because every shot of Linkara and Harvey had them speaking towards the left side of the screen. This breaks the flow of the discussion since the characters don't seem to be visually adressing each other.

This is a breach of what is commonly regarded as the 180 degree rule. I won't go into detail about it, since this is just a comment section. Just google the term and you should find information about it.

I'm assuming that you don't plan out your shots visually ahead of time, going mostly from script and improv. This can cause you to fall back on angles you are comfortable using.

Again, I'm hoping to provide constructive criticism, not to be negative.

Keep up the good work. Looking forward to the next review. =)

So, wait, your stuff was brought to life by the "kenning" smell of the Fae from the SERRAted Edge series? Interesting, but I thought you didn't like magical solutions to problems?

Interesting that you tried to do that to your duel disk, and an DOMA arc one, to boot. Also interesting you got a Case Topper Utopia. I'm guessing you're getting back into the game? If so, what's your opinions of the new features the game has (mainly the Synchro and Xyz monsters)?

FugueforFrog said...

That does seem to finally reveal a lot about the Arsenal of Freedom. Good luck in the Duel Disk someday.

The comic was...weird. I think your opening bit summed it up: what? Though using a Power Rangers reference with Belushi the American Samurai is always good for a laugh.

And now just to prove my own geekiness, a bit more on the relation between the Muppets and SNL: basically Jim Henson was brought in for the first season of the show as one of the various weird acts and such to go along with the series. The show was basically about the guest star and maybe the musical act, with a few other things and then "Not Ready for Primetime Players". The whole Henson segment was a weird adult thing called the "Land of Gorch", which for the most part was a bunch of new Muppets doing weird adult content such as sex and drugs and such. Obviously, the cast hated it and with limited creative control, Henson wasn't doing too well with it either. However in January, 1976, during the middle of the first season, Lew Grade contacted Jim to come to England to do the Muppet Show pilot. That was something Jim had been wanting to get off the ground for a while and obviously he and the whole crew jumped at the chance. For a few weeks, they left New York, went to Elstree and made the first two Muppet Show pilots with Juliette Prowse and Connie Stevens as guest stars. Gorch didn't show up in those episodes, and there was even one where I think Ackroyd took it over. After the success of the pilot and Jim and Lew securing syndication for the show in the US (another long story: it had a network but only in England due to a complicated setup of British TV network ITV at the time; the show itself needed to be syndicated with Grade's ITC Entertainment distributing and CBS working alongside to get the show to America), he returned to New York to pretty much close out the whole Gorch mess; he really only wrote one script to finish it off as they pretty much realized they weren't for the show and "returned to the boxes". They only showed up one last time in the first episode of season 2, but by then The Muppet Show was about to premiere so it was just tying up loose ends. (yeah I know it was weird saying all that but I'm that way with Muppet history of that sort)

Sijo said...

@The Composer: Yes Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and many other Marvel Comics people exist within the Marvel Universe. However, they are just normal people, with no special knowledge or control over reality. They just make comic books, sometimes with permission from the heroes (such as with the Fantastic Four) and sometimes not (Spider-Man.) Their stories are usually faithful but can also be totally made up (they think Thor is an alien!)

My personal theory is that those silly Nextwave stories were just part of one of these comics, and Photon, Machine Man etc. are still cool superheroes. Also because Devil Dinosaur as a villain makes no sporking sense.

Lewis Lovhaug said...

...Synchro what?!

As for XYZ, it's kind of neat, but it's rare that I'd pull them out, mostly since standard monster effects would be preferable.

I'm hoping to actually be able to duel people again at some conventions. It's been too long not dueling outside of just the World Championship games.

One small point of concern I have nobody else has brought up: all the tech that belongs to Doctor Who and Power Rangers and the like are actually toys that were made legitimate through specialized application of spells that bring symbology and idea into physical existence, and are now negated, hopefully not destroyed. This...would include Linkara's pokeballs as well, right? So...what does this mean for creatures inside them? We do know of at least one. You know, the...pointy one? What effect does an antimagic field have in this instance on a creature within an affected pokeball?

"3-If all the spell does is plays with the layers of reality, wouldn't negating it:

-turn Comincron One into just a CGI drawing?

-turn Pollo into an inanimate puppet?

...said The Exiled One at June 4, 2012 18:24

There were a couple of things I feel you missed the point of in this post, but #3 is the big one. They aren't fictional characters in-world, Pollo isn't a puppet, Comicron One is an actual ship, and Linkara is as we see him. The antimagic field negates and possibly dispels nonepic magic within area of effect (assuming D&D logic), and that's all it does. The characters and the ship aren't intrinsically magical, so nothing actually happened to them. The antimagic field suppresses the power of the gun, the reality of the spells that made Linkara's toys functioning, and prevents all other spellcasting. The field doesn't affect what you address, because that's not something it CAN affect, it's not like it's a "field of Phelous's disbelief" or something. Besides, by your own logic, how would Insano not have winked out when he created the thing in the first place?

DuelMark said...

Okay Linkara, points for the Statler and Waldorf jokes, the two are always a treat and are part of the reason I saw The Muppets (seen it?) Also, points for bringing in the long awaited explanation for having fictional technology.

However, you lose points for not making a Ghostbusters joke given you got Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray in this comic.

Great video as always, Mr. L. This has got to be one of the most insane crossovers yet.

Though, one does have to wonder: what would happen if there was a crossover between the Avengers and LASER CATS? (One thing is for sure: Lorne Michaels and Marvel will not be amused.)

The plot thickens. I've always wondered how Linkara kept getting hands on actual working items from various anime and sci-fi shows. It turns out to be a magic spell that can turn toys into real weapons.

I wonder if there's some kind of connection between the mysterious gunslinger and the anti-magic field generator . . .

First off I want to say I've never laughed as hard at a joke as I did for that John Belushi Green Lantern thing... for some reason that just cracked me up. The entire review was great as was the storyline... I really liked the magic image thing...

Unfortunately for me it falls really close to what I was planning on doing with my review show I've been working on... there my character is able to pull her tech out of the dream dimension and is psychically fueled by imagination... not quite the same but close enough. *sigh*

I do have one question though; if the lack of a Morphing Grid impeded the use of your Power Rangers tech then how were you able to communicate with an Admiral from Star Fleet in your Star Trek/X-men crossover review... if Star Trek is simply fiction in your universe?

Ozaline said...

"so... stan lee is here- what comics does the marvel have within marvel comics? they have thor, dont they? what does thor think of the thor comic within a thor comic? *scratches head*"

Actually in She-Hulk back issues of Marvel comics are considered legally admissible evidence... All the comics exist they're just factually accurate.

No idea how that effects secret identities.

On the review: LOVED the jokes this comic brought out, especially the SNL and Muppets ones. I'm pretty sure they don't use the Not Ready for Prime Time moniker anymore, though, as I have seen some stuff from the 90s and more recent years.

On the storyline: Well, I was hoping for the loss of magic to be due to his ego, but I felt the explanation for the items more than made up for it. lol My speculation is that Insano will ultimately have nothing to do with it, but I kinda hope he will if only to bring back a tiny bit of menace to him. Overall, great stuff! :)

"My personal theory is that those silly Nextwave stories were just part of one of these comics, and Photon, Machine Man etc. are still cool superheroes. Also because Devil Dinosaur as a villain makes no sporking sense."

Not to mention, we haven't seen Dirk Anger or H.A.T.E. ever since "Nextwave" ended.

Wouldn't H.A.T.E. come in handy during that whole "Civil War" thing?

"i assume someone already posted a comment for that but just in case im actually wondering,if these things stopped working what happened to the pyramid head inside the poke-ball?"

If I'm reading DMaster's post right, Pyramid Head would still exist, he just wouldn't be inside the Pokeball. Which, by proxy, means he's out of Linkara's control and has gone back to Silent Hill or Dolorem or however Linkara wants to call that place.

Anti-magic field generator? PSh, those are so yesterday! They still require dongly things to work! Why use one of those when you can use... THE NEGATOR!

Somebody get Linkara a blitzball, stat!

Hmm, so none of Linkara's items work... well, at least he can get phasers and stuff like that from Lieutenant Munro.

First of all, grate review Linkara. Very funny as always and I’m really enjoying the storyline.

Secondly, to answer your questions The Exiled One-

1- Linkara created Linksano so he didn’t always have to bother Spoony when he wanted a mad scientist. That doesn’t mean that Insano will never again be on his show. It just means that the majority of the time he’ll use Linksano. This doesn’t mean he will use ‘Insano on a regular’ bases again. Insano will probably just be in the next episode for a few minutes saying he has nothing to do with what’s going on. Besides Linksano and Insano are two very different characters. Linksano is employed Linkara and seems to be a good guy now. Insano is still a villain and he was the one who created an Anti-Magic Field Generator so it makes sense to use him, rather than Linksano, at this point.

2- Linkara went over this when he was doing the Entity storyline- when he’s doing a storyline he doesn’t expect any other review to acknowledge it in their reviews so he probably won’t acknowledge Spoony’s story arc in his one. Who knows, Spoony might write a part for Linkara in his story but that won’t be a part of THIS story.

Think of it this way Linkara’s reviews are set in one universe and Spoony’s are set in another. If Linkara goes over to the house of Spoony, in his universe, he won’t meet the Guardian because that isn’t happing in the AT4W universe.

Second numbers 2- There is no continuity there is only Insano. While Insano might help Spoony defeat the Guardian he might just as easily stand by and watch. He. Is. INSANE! Why is that so hard to grasp? He says it himself. He’s called Insano. Besides, just because Insano created an Anti-Magic Field Generator doesn’t means he has anything to do with this. He’s last one was destroyed remember?

3- No. Just no. In continuity Comincron One is a real ship not a CGI drawing, Pollo is a real robot not a puppet, Linkara is a real person not just a character and Harvey Finevoice, Linksano and all the others are real too and not just versions of Linkara.

The Anti-Magic Field Generator doesn’t make the AT4W universe into this universe. In continuity everything is the same except that magic doesn’t work. That’s why normally, when there are explosions in the house, nothing gets damaged but, now the magic’s off, it would but Harvey will stay Harvey because magic didn’t create him.

4- See Second number 2 reply.

5- See responses to both number 2 questions. Also Linkara could easily be wrong and Insano has nothing to do with the Gunslinger.

6- Insano doesn’t have her. Like Linksano said, she’s still in the gun. Linkara just can’t use the gun because magic isn’t working.

7- I’m not even sure what you’re asking there.

8- No, different continuities again. We don’t have an explanation for the Nostalgia Critic’s gun. Spoony gets his weapons from the games he plays and from Insano. Anyway, the Anti-Magic Field Generator was created with SCIENCE “Of course!” not magic.

Second number 8- Either because he doesn’t have a good representation to cast the spell on or because he knows things like the One Ring are too powerful and would corrupt him and others.

The Exiled One:

Marvel says that the evil Devil Dinosaur was a clone and the dead Moon-Boy was, likewise, probably also a clone. We haven't seen Dirk Anger and H.A.T.E. because 1. Dirk crashed that Heli-Anvil. 2. That Heli-Anvil probably contained most, if not all, of H.A.T.E's staff. 3. Who else but an overzealous H.A.T.E member would be dumb enough to have the motivation to bring someone as crazy as Dirk Anger back?
And Nextwave didn't MAKE at least one of them (Elsa) INTO a cool superhero? Seriously, I haven't read the pre-nextwave Elsa Bloodstone comic, but I think the covers look kind of sleazy and it might be material for the show some Halloween. Her post nextwave miniseries Legion of Monsters, though? I'd LOVE to read that.

Well we found it finally and it's pretty funny! Loved Chris Farley as the Hulk and Sindbad as Black Lightening! And it did actually have the Death of Superman comic in it at the end! XD I'd loved it if you could've worked in bits from this clip into your review! XD

"Marvel says that the evil Devil Dinosaur was a clone and the dead Moon-Boy was, likewise, probably also a clone."

That sounds more like a joke than a real answer (probably in reference to how Thanos says it was a clone of his and not really himself who lost to Squirrel Girl. Clones are the new Doombots it seems.)

Also, while I haven't seen Elsa Bloodstone's first series either, and from what I hear yes it was somewhat cheesecakey, I doubt it would have her say things as idiotic as "You think this E stands for America?" (itself a reference to another failed line, the "You think this A (in Captain America's costume) stands for France?" Sheesh.

I just watch the review at the guy with the glasses. com. I actually wouldn't mind owning this comic book in some form. I really enjoyed the Statler and Waldorf bits in the review. I enjoyed the storyline part at the end.

Volvagia said...

Sijo: Um...Ellis said the series was SUPPOSED to be an INSANE parody of the superhero genre. His quote for the intent of the series was "No plot lines, characters, emotions, nothing whatsoever. It's people posing in the street for no good reason. It is people getting kicked and then exploding. It is a PURE comic book and I will fight anyone who says otherwise. And afterwards, they will explode." Tons of humour and action but little actual substance come together for twelve issues to form what I think is the other MASTERPIECE of the superhero genre. Yes, I said it. If Watchmen is the genre's Citizen Kane, nextwave is the genre's Singin' in the Rain.

As for XYZ, it's kind of neat, but it's rare that I'd pull them out, mostly since standard monster effects would be preferable.

I'm hoping to actually be able to duel people again at some conventions. It's been too long not dueling outside of just the World Championship games."

Synchros, those white cards that were all the rage back in the day, before the Xyz (not all of the letters are capitalized, to keep them from being confused with the V-Z line of machine-type monsters) took over. If you skipped them, don't worry; they were rather overpowered and unfun to play with, so you aren't missing much.

I agree that the Xyzs are a neat idea, and are my favorite of the new gimmicks introduced to the game, but I don't seem to play with them as much as I should. Glad to see you're at least trying to keep up with the game, though.

And I hear you with the lack of opportunities to duel; the nearest card shop that even does any dueling is an hour away, so I'm stuck testing my decks online. Hope you'll be able to find some people to duel with tat youir conventions.

First of all, this is Linkara's show. It's not nuttersinc's show and it's not DMaster's show. I'm sticking to my original beliefs until Linkara himself says otherwise. So yes, the spell plays with the layers of reality, and the little girl is gone. If I'm wrong, then Linkara himself should say so.

Second, nuttersinc, what you are saying is contradicted by several past videos:

the "Warrior" reviews, the fact that Linkara remembers Kickassia and the death of Ma-Ti, the fact that Ma-Ti isn't around anymore, the Dark Nella Entity showing up in Doug's show (assuming Rob's form), and even Doug referencing Phelou's storylines in the "Child's Play 2" review, all lead to believe that the videos take place in a singular That guy With the Glasses universe. To say otherwise is like saying that Batman doesn't exist in the same universe as Superman just because Superman rarely visits Gotham City. So yes, the Guardian storyline IS happening in the same universe as this one.

Hell, the upcoming Anniversary Special is confirmed to feature a meeting of all the villains, and for that to happen it MUST mean that all storylines ARE taking place in the same universe (how the hell else can, for example, Lord Vyce be in the same team as Phelous D1?).

Also yes, Doctor Insano HAS a continiuty and that "there is no continuity" thing is just bullshit. He has a backstory, his apparances follow a linear path, he is very much a member of the larger TGWTG universe. Which means he has to follow the laws of continuity as much as everyone else on the TGWTG universe.

And as for why wouldn't he attack the Guardian, think about it: once the Guardian kills Spoony, he will then move on to attack Insano. Hell, Insano attacked Tidus for less than that. Besides, even if Clone Insano just stands there doing nothing, the pressure of being tortured might cause Spoony to snap and revert to his "Insano" split personality, and Spoony Insano will most definitively attack the Guardian.

And since when do the Omnitrix or the Ultimatrix corrupt people (and the Auryn, considering Xayide and her memory machine don't exist in the TGWTG universe)?

You're wrong; it doesn't.

And while I tend to hold a belief in a larger TGWTG universe, the continuity is loose at best between them, especially when some of us break the fourth wall more frequently than others.

Nice review. I like how the new story line is going. I have a question about the two characters you play.If Linkara can make things real by magic then are Harvey Finevoice and 90s kid real? I mean Linkara could have taken a picture of himself dressed as them said the magic words then bam there they are. They all look like Linkara and we don't know what others spells are in that book.I know since you play them both of course they are going to look like you. I'm talking about wwhats happening in Linkara's world. You could ask why are they still there if a Anti-magic field is there then. I only got three answers to that, Linkara said that a low level magic is working in his house so some magic still works. The magic that made them could have work so well that they are now real and don't need magic to keep them alive. And my favorite it's magic you don't have to explain it.I would like to know are they real in Linkara's world or were they made by that book?

so acroding to the stinger linkara is kinda like dr.strange...huh.

good use of the old anti magic field joke.

btw what was the music at the stinger?

Anonymous said...

Why do the various characters not disappear when the anti-magic field is applied?

Perhaps because they were never there in the first place.

Remember in Kickassia where Insano and Spoony are revealed to be one.

Linkara also mentions being so many individuals from the show, and Kickassia gets referenced at least once by Linkara commenting on Insano and Spoony being one and the same.

And he was called "Lewis" by Iron Liz so we know Linkara isn't his original name in the Atopverse either.

So all the sub-characters as portrayed by Linkara are in "reality", Linkara himself in some kind of multiple personality disorder.

He and Spoony both share that delusion, both work as reviewers and along with their connection with other reviewers play along with each others mental disorders.

Nevermore said...

... I just realized that this plotline is based on JLA: Act of God. Magic (supernatural stuff) suddenly ceases to function, while technology (the spaceship) still works.

Let's just hope Linkara doesn't devolve into a mopey drunk catholic who refuses to get out of costume for six months.

Gyre said...

I think that a great deal of comments about this story arc might be missing a fact. Several of the crossovers and tie-ins mentioned don't seem to have been intended to be part of the 'Linkara' continuity and other pieces (such as Dr. Insano) were originally created by others who were not entirely consistent about them, nor did they create them for the purpose of using them in Linkara stories.
Therefore I'd say that it is reasonable to expect the story to explain the Girl in the Gun (that's actually a good title or name IMO) and to properly remember previously established events when using her. However it really isn't reasonable to expect the same for Insano when Insano was created by Spoony for his videos and was not intended to be part of a proper story with careful continuity.

Nope, that does not happen. Again, it's like saying "Spider-Man wasn't created as an Avenger, so all his appearances on the Avengers are not valid" or "Lady Blackhawk wasn't created as a supporting character for the Batman books, so her appearances in 'Birds of Prey' aren't valid."

Regardless of itent, Insano has appeared in several of Linkara's past videos, he HAS an established backstory, and Linkara has both agreed on both the continuity with other shows AND on Insano's backstory. You can't go against Linkara's own wishes for the show just because you feel like it, Gyre. What Linkara says, goes, and Linkara WANTS a larger TGWTG universe and he WANTS Insano's backstory to be canon.

...Says the guy who insisted that who insisted that the Magic Coin could only make someone grow, even though Linkara had established elsewhere that it could be used as a power source for a morpher. And insisted that his fanfiction about Linkara's Zeonizer being Tommy's Red Zeonizer was true and definite canon, even though there was absolutely NO evidence whatsoever backing this (and anyway, that theory has been jossed as of this episode anyway). AND the guy who completely misinterpreted who "Dolorem" was, and CONTINUES TO MISINTERPRET THIS, AND INSIST THAT HE'S RIGHT, EVEN THOUGH LINKARA HAS EXPLAINED IT SEVERAL TIMES.

Yeah, Exiled One? I'm calling you out on your hypocrisy right there.

Oh, and the whole "there is no continuity, there is only Insano" thing? That's an official statement from Spoony. Spoony, the one who CREATED THE CHARACTER. I think his stance on the character comes before Linkara.

As for the "larger TGWTG universe," well... Linkara and Spoony's videos are definitely part of the same universe, but I'm not quite so sure on the rest of the site. And unless I've missed something, it hasn't been definitely confirmed that the 4th anniversary will feature a bunch of TGWTG villains teaming up (we know Mechakara will most likely be in it, but, again, unless I've missed something, that's all we know).

Cole said...

Hey Linkara, if your spell of protection works on books, furniture ect why haven't you cast the spell on clothes? I mean it sounds like you could have some great armour, find something to cover your face and head and you won't have to duck behind things.

Though I suppose the force of the blow might still hurt, like getting shot in the chest even if you're wearing a bullet proof vest. Though, I've can't recall anything ever getting knocked over in a fight, at least not by the blast of an energy weapon.

Course, I could just be nitpicking.

Exiled One: Well maybe it isn't as graphic as Peter Jackson's Muppet parody but you had Muppets talking about sexual incompetence and drugs. As I said, the Land of Gorch was just a weird experiment that no one wanted to be part of. And in the end, it was one season and done: SNL did their own thing and Jim was in Elstree making one of the greatest shows in TV history.

Well, in that particular case, he's half right: Linkara HAS expressed interest in a larger TGWTG universe. He has NOT, however, said anything about Insano's backstory.

That Robed Guy said...

Perfect intro.

The Exiled One said...

It's prety simple, really:

-"Kickassia" is where Insano's backstory comes from

-Linkara considers "Kickassia" canon to his show

therefore

-Linkara considers Insano's backstory canon to his show.

The "there is only Insano" thing was a JOKE. It was never meant as a serious statement. If you believe that, you should by all means believe in Mara Wilson as a demonic being.

True, I can't go against what Linkara considers canon. But then again, neither can you.

Also, the fact that the Anti-Magic Field Genetator (which first appeared in a Spoony video) is even brought into play clearly points to the fact that Spoony's videos are canon to Linkara's videos (or else we wouldn't even be having this storyline to begin with). And since part of Insano's backstory comes from Spoony's videos, that means thyat Insano's backstory is canon. Couple that with the canonicity of "Kickassia", and you have the fact that a larger TGWTG universe is canon.

So, no canonicity on Spoony's videos = no Anti-Magic Field Genetator = no storyline.

So yes, Insano HAS a backstory. Spoony made a JOKE, nothing else.

Also, glad to see FuegueforFrog is willing to talk about non-storyline stuff. Where can I see this "Land of Gorch" skits?

Alex Stritar said...

You know, I just thought of something. Exactly how far does it make things real? I mean, I understand why it wouldn't work on a button that says "Destroy Mechakara Forever" and that it mainly works on toys, but how far does it go there. Like, say if I used in on an action figure of Blue Beetle, would it come to life as a mini Blue Beetl with all powers and abillities and personalities as he has in the comics and cartoons? Or would it just walk and talk ala Toy Story? Or would the spell just not work at all?

And for pictures, would the character or item pop out alive, or would it be a Harry Potter-like talking picture? Or how about the character sheet for an RPG character. Since that is a representation of a character, would the spell bring said character to life?

The Exiled One said...

I have no idea, because no one here has any real contribution in trying to explain how that spell works. They seem more interested in trying to deny that Insano has a backstory (even though he does) and the existance of the TGWTG Universe (even though it exists).

All they said is that the spell can't mess with the layers of reality. That's all.

FugueforFrog said...

Exiled One: It's tough to find the actual Gorch sketches online, but the DVD set of the first season of SNL has all of them except the very last one, which appeared in the first episode of season 2. (mostly to just make a joke about their fate with how infamous they were in the previous season) There were some who got along better with the Muppets than others; heck Gilda did "The Muppet Show" in season 3 and Chevy Chase did a cameo in "Follow That Bird"...and of course Steve Martin...but he was more a recurring guest on SNL so it's tough to say he counts.

As for why I avoid talking about other things, mostly it's because I always have a means of keeping my distance on other stuff for the most part on the web. It's a personal thing honestly with the way security and such gets. Keep conversation neutral for the most part.

Jarkes said...

Okay, Exiled One, I think I understand what you're saying now. But there's one minor problem: If we presume "Kickassia" is Insano's canon backstory (since there are a couple other videos that suggest other origins of the character, hence the whole debate and "there is no Insano" comment in the first place), then answer me this: If Insano is a split personality of Spoony (as established in Kickassia), then how is it that much of Spoony's videos (as well as the Warrior AT4W-Spoony Experiment crossover videos) clearly show Insano and Spoony as two separate characters? It's bits like that that make people confused about Insano's continuity, though I think someone made a video detailing how all of the "Insano continuity conflicts" could be put together into one single continuity. Perhaps that should be our main resource when dealing with this.

It's like the Constructicons of the original Transformers cartoon: several conflicting origins, but you can make them all fit together if you think about it. ...Wait, that analogy doesn't work. You CAN'T fit the three Constructicon origins together. You can fit TWO of them together, but not the third one.

Oh, I just realized another bit that could tie AT4W into the rest of TGWTG as a larger universe: In the Star Trek: Insurrection crossover, Linkara appears on the TV against the Comicron-1 greenscreen background. So he clearly has the spaceship in other people's videos.

The Exiled One said...

Because there are TWO Insanos: the Clone Insano and Spoony-as-Insano.

Insano exists as a split personality of Spoony, HOWEVER the Clone Insano that was created in the "Clones of Bruce Lee" review is still aroun.

Thus, Insano exists as both a split personality of Spoony AND as a separate character, thus allowing Spoony and Insano to co-exist.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about that... wait, I'm not sure that works either. Insano was seen separate from Spoony BEFORE the Clones of Bruce Lee review. In fact, I'm pretty sure Insano sent Squall to kill Spoony, leading to said review in the first place (where Spoony himself was also cloned). Of course, I haven't actually seen that many OF Spoony's videos (most of my knowledge of his show comes from TvTropes), so I could be wrong.

Those videos (before Clone Insano was made) were from Spoony's point of view. In reality, there was nobody there, and Spoony was talking to himself the whole time. You know, like in "Fight Club".

...So, what you're saying is that when Insano sent Squall to kill Spoony, he was actually attempting a Split Personality Takeover, kind of like how later, the clone Spoony ended up merging with Black Lantern Spoony? ...I think I get it now.

Yeah, I don't watch Yugioh The Abridged Series, myself; not a big fan of parody, other than the occasional Weird Al song, so it's not surprising that I didn't get the reference from the anniversary movie version they did.

I think they did something similar in the actual movie, but I don't think they took it as far, honestly; would've been funny if they did, have them stop the duel dead in its tracks to explain what a Synchro Summon was to poor Yugi and Jaden. Of course, I didn't really care much for the movie, to be perfectly honest, so it probably was for the best they didn't go that route.

Though now I can't wait for them to team up with Yuma and try to figure out what an Xyz summon is :P

So Lewis, I have a question. Kind of an older episode I know, but I thought this would be a good place to ask.

A friend brought this up recently, regarding the Girl in the Gun whispering in Linkara's ear; has this always happened, or was that only after Silent Hill: Dead/Alive? I ask because he seemed to not even know of the girl's existence until then. It's gotta be kind of weird to hear a weird voice in your head every time you fired a gun, even a magic one, you know? XD
