October 2012 Trailer & Longbox of the Damned Promo

First up, here's a quick promo talking about Longbox of the Damned!

Next, what shall I be reviewing for Atop the Fourth Wall this October? The next two months' worth of reviews are under the cut (including Secret Origins Month)!

Schedule of Upcoming Episodes
10/1 – Starstream #1
10/8 – The Thing From Another World #1
10/15 – The Thing From Another World #2
10/22 – Spider-Man: Power and Responsibility
10/29 – Bart Simpson’s Treehouse of Horror #2

Secret Origins Month
11/5 – Flash Comics #1
11/12 – Tales of Suspense #39
11/19 – The Brave and the Bold #54
11/26 – The Incredible Hulk #1

Also, when I say I'm "behind schedule" for Longbox of the Damned, I mean I'm not where I thought I was going to be originally. I have the first week's worth of videos complete and after this is posted, I'm going right back to editing more.

  1. Excited for all episodes...except one. I HATE The Hulk! To me he is one of the most badly written, broken characters in comic book history. He can punch through magic just because HES MAD! He can single handidly defeat the most powerful ancient demon of all time just because HE'S MAD! He defeat gods and cosmic beings because HE'S MAD! I refuse to believe something created through something as unextraordinary (at least for the Marvel universe) as radiation is this powerful.

  2. I was never a fan of Silent Hill so I typically skipped those reviews, but I love both the '51 and '82 version of "The Thing" and am eager to see these reviews/story.

Good to see secret origins month back again, I've been rooting for Hulk and Flash since the beginning since I think their first appearances had some great joke potential, I'm surprised I didn't think of suggesting the Teen Titans first comic. That'll fit our super team quota for the year, while we build up the ranks for The Avengers #1 for next year!

Best wishes for Longbox of the Damned!

  3. First of all, this October is going to be exciting with another Cinemassacre Monster Madness and yours on Longbox of the Damned. It means double the fun, and double the thrills!

I was hoping that the third Secret Origins Month would be dedicated to The Avengers with the recent Marvel blockbuster. It would mean not only talking the first ever issue of an Avengers comic, but also more emphasis on Iron Man, the Hulk, and Thor. I guess we're just settling on the Hulk this year, which is fine by me. I love the Hulk mainly because of the classic TV series where we get to see Bill Bixby's David (Bruce) Banner struggling with his inner beast. Not to mention, Lou Ferrigno's Hulk smashing for our enjoyment.

I decided I wanted to get all the backstories for the Avengers finished before I started looking at the first Avengers comic itself. ^_^

  5. I'm greatly looking forward to Longbox of the Damned as well as your October storyline. You're a master of horror, Linkara, your Silent Hill reviews scared the crap out of me - in a good way of course. :D

(Hehehe. To sign this post, I have to type the numbers 666. Coincidence?)

  6. (going backwards because... mmm... look at the pretty bunny xD)

So for Secret Origins Month we have:

    - Flash: interested
    - Iron Man: REALLY interested
    - Robin? yeah not sure, did a quick search and the only to say first appearance was actually the villian Mister Twister
    - Hulk: ... yeah Hulk isnt exactly something that i think i wanna know more of... never liked Hulk's stories, just him breaking shit up xD

Also really hyped for October and SPECIALLY Longbox of The Damned (loved the maniacal laugh at the end... and i didnt even watch Tales From The Crypt, except the cartoon)

    - About The First 3 comic no idea what shall happen thought now i wanna see a poster of Linkara, Harvey, 90's Kid and Linksano in a room pointing at each other with silly weapons

    - So now we go back to the beginning? The actual start point of The Clone Saga? mmm interesting

    - ... A Simpsons Comic made it to AT4W? I find this intriguing cos IT'S THE SIMPSONS! How do you make it bad? (ok we have had the answer this last 10 seasons of the show but still curious)

Anyway looking forward to this next months :D

  7. "The Shadows are the best place to hide."

    Unless you're in a library.

  8. So you gonna say "Fudge you too" when the inevitable scary amalgamation of hideousness bursts from the floor boards and tries to kill ya? I know you won't say the other F word, its just I love that line I do kinda wanna see you parody it in some way.

It's funny, on the day I'm thinking about the Thing the original 1951 era movie is on the TV and that wasn't very long ago, like a week. And I've been hoping to watch the movie again this year for my horrorthon. Guess this just makes it appropo.

I hope one of the books you talk about during the longbox includes Frankenstein and the gang over at Shade. I love that book. But I'll settle for Animal Man if you please. :D

  9. Joshua Ford, are you aware that Thor is much stronger than the Hulk on top of having a huge list of other powers?

    ReplyDelete
  10. I LOVE IT!!! I think Longbox is going to be loads of fun, and I really like the set of AT4W comics you've got lined up. I don't think I ever knew there was a "Thing" comic book. I loved that you mimicked the trailer for the John Carpenter version. I believe it to be his best film.

Partially inspired by this, I'm going to be posting up written horror movie reviews every day in October at my Forever Cinematic WordPress blog to celebrate my old horror movie website. Just like you, I'm behind schedule, but that happens when I'm without a computer for nearly a week. I'm also determined to make good on my word with it. I believe you've got the dedication to make good on yours.

I also really like Secret Origins month. It's always an interesting look back to see how good or bad their beginnings were, in retrospect. This looks like another good line-up for November.

And of course, the obligatory anniversary Spider-Man comic is always a special pleasure. For whatever reason, Spidey always seems to produce the best episodes of AT4W.

  11. Looking forward to october. Secret Origins month always a hoot. Really looking forward to long box of the damned after the preview. Scary stuff only thing keeping halloween from boring these for me.

  12. I had a feeling you'd talk about the Jay Garrick Flash before the Barry Allen Flash, like with last year involving Green Lantern. I'm hoping we'll get the origins of the Silver Age versions next year, especially since I became a Green Lantern fan this year.

Speaking of, I sent an e-mail to you some time ago that I'm sure you haven't read due to a busy schedule, (Not blaiming you) but what Green Lantern comics, namely Hal Jordan, do you recommend for a newcomer? I'm also looking for stuff involving Red Lanterns and the Anti-Monitor due being major villains in the Animated Series on Cartoon Network.

  13. A review a day? You’re a madman Lovhaug, a madman! Then again with the company you keep, that’s not so surprising. Either way, the set looks good and I can’t wait to see Morty in action. Although I must wonder, if you are going to review Marvel Zombies, and if you do will it be as a whole or issue by issue?

The trailer looks as scary as your past trailers. October is when you really step up your game, must have something to do with the anniversary. I’m just going to call it now though, if Boffo shows up, he’s the monster. Then again it would go against what you’ve said Boffo stands for as the anti-media clown. But then again you are smart enough to know we’d know that so you might it anyway. Then again…I’m going cross-eyed.

No matter what, I’m really looking forward to next month now. Good luck getting it all done!

  14. That seriously sounds awesome, although if you don't do a Junji Ito story I will probably be disappoint, not upset or anything, just kinda sad...

    ReplyDelete
  15. I hope you won't look at some Child's play comics (if they are around, I'm too scared to find out)
If it is, then i'll skip At4w till next month.

Is Spoony going to show up in here?
'The Thing' was one of is favorites.

Have you actually read any Hulk comics?

  17. So you went with a vignette, Linkara...
I admit, it looks nice for the Longbox (and I should have thought of it as well as what I suggested on twitter, but hey, you can't always win) - but it feels a bit unusual for Atop the Fourth Wall (October edition). It might be that I'm too used to seeing AT4W shrouded in fog in october - who knows?

  18. I almost thought you where gonna brake into "Down in the Park" the mRilyn mNson cover or gary numen because it has exerpts from prince of darkness and starts very similarly to the radio sound you used in the october trailer. Also was that "we found something" a reference to the x-files episode thats similar to "the thing"

Either way theres a lot of john carpenter in my post weird

  19. Say Linkara, isn't Power and Responsibility at the beginning of the Clone Saga? Why go back and do it?

Also, it is astounding that after doing this for nearly four years, you never reviewed a Hulk comic. I hope you do more.

Quick Survey. Do you think that Linkara is the best reviewer on the internet?

    Jack Linde. #1 Fan.

    PS Thing FTW!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hoo boy...The Thing has found the show. I sort of hope no one turns inside out or into some weird...well it is "the thing" so blood will spill.

Weird you're going back to the beginning of the Clone Saga. I was hoping we'd start getting into some of the really dumb later stuff but I guess you want to catalogue everything even though we've already had the epic awfulness of Maximum Cloneage (stll one of my favorite reviews you've ever done).

This year's Secret Origins...neat choices. Guess with GA Green Lantern, we needed GA Flash to compliment. And having been reading Supermegamonkey's comic site for Marvel, there are some really funny things regarding both the Hulk and Iron Man's origin you can milk. (trust me, there's one panel where Betty thinks this is the start of something wonderful...well fifty years later and she's a Hulk, her dad's a Hulk and there are bunches and bunches of other Hulks too...but to me Bruce and Jen are the ones that matter)

    ReplyDelete
  21. It could be said that Bruce Banner, the designer of nukes is more dangerous than the Hulk. Besides, Hulk is strongest one there is. There's also an underlying psychological reason why anger triggers the Hulk transformation.

Hulk #1 however has an interesting story behind it I know Linkara will do a good job with. No spoilers from me. But, it will be a fun ride as Hulk is now 50 years old.

As for Tales of Suspense #39? Iron Man's first appearance gets a bit uncomfortable. But, hey, he's giving each original Avenger a spotlight before covering the team. That's a good thing and almost like the Marvel Cinematic Universe you might say. All that's left is Thor and Giant-Man/Wasp.

Golden Age Flash and Robin origins should be good, too. Dick's origin is hard to mess around with and why it still holds. I think we're in for a treat this coming November.

Power and Responsibility? This is your first look at Ultimate Spider-Man. I've never read it. So, good luck to ya. =D Other picks are looking good too.

Look up the trailer to John Carpenter's "The Thing." ^_~

  23. When I first saw Morte, I couldn't help but laugh. Not because I thought it looked terrible, but because I thought it looked incredible. The kind of laugh that makes you go, "Oh My God, This is going to be so awesome!"

I am really hoping that some Evil Dead comics come out of the Longbox of the Damned

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hey Linkara? Is the tagline for the upcoming arc "The shadows are the best place to hide" a quote from a movie or did you create it on your own? I get the feeling I've heard a quote like that somewhere before.

    ReplyDelete
  25. So did you have James Rolfe help you with your long box of the damned trailer? Because the stock footage clips all look to be ones he has on file for making his Monster Madness openers. Same cut points and all.

I've watched 2 of the John Carpenters The Thing movies. The older one was better. But what I am seeing on this comic makes it look like even that might be tame. Looking forward to it even though I was kinda hoping for some more contrast between the Atop the 4th sequences and the Long Box. Between this and Monster Maddness I hope I don't get horrored out before Halloween.

Nah, it just happens that I have plenty of horror movies, as well. ^_^

Although I was surprised that he had Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'd be more surprised to hear him admit there is a Dracula movie he doesn't have. His video collection is extensive and even includes tape reels, and Video Disk.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hm, not sure what to think of using The Thing for October. Oh well, it all depends on how that turns out. And of course, for this month's Clone Saga review, you finally get to talk about Judas Traveller.

I love Secret Origins Month, and this is looking like a mostly good lineup. It seems like you're taking the same approach as you did last time with Green Lantern if you're going to talk about Jay Gerrick. Iron Man should be fun because I don't think you really get a chance to talk about the character on his own as much. Teen Titans is a no-brainer, and I like that it sounds like you get two chances to talk about Wally. Like others have said, I don't care for the Hulk, but that shouldn't stop me from looking forward to your review.

If the plan is to get through all of the Avengers before you look at the first issue, are you going to talk about Thor and Ant-Man next year? Like Iron Man, Thor is another character I'd like to see you talk about more.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I was kinda hoping to see another crossover with Spoony, Linkara, and Doug for the Alone in the Dark comic. But I'm super psyched for The Thing; definitely one of my favorite horror movies of all time.

    ReplyDelete
  30. EEEE! A 'The Thing'-based storyline?! Add me to the 'super excited' side of things. I adore The Thing, even tracked down and read the original short, and then started writing a crossover fic with Sherlock... but that's not important right now.

What is important is SQUEE THE THING. I will be not at all surprised if you do a better job and are more faithful to the concept than the prequel movie.

  31. This is the time of year where the opening sequence changes, and we seen plenty of comics that have not been reviewed yet (Year One had Objective Five #1 and that comic with the demonic brunette in purple that I can not identify even after all these year. Year two had Stellar Graphix's Shaquille O'Neal #1, Badrock #1, and Objective Five #3. Year Three had Ultimate Power, Batman: Hush Returns, Barack the Barbarian #1, and C.H.I.X. #1. And Year Four had WCW #3, Catwoman Movie Adaptation, Fantastic Four #375, Deathmate Tour Book, Batman: City of Light #1, What's Up With Astra?, Marville #5, Maximum's Battlestar Galactica #2, Star Trek: Generations, Marvel Team-Up #137, Satan's Six #4, Double Edge Alpha, and How To Publish Comics #1.

    Anybody nottice a pattern?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Out of curiosity, since you're a fan of the character: did you ever read Daniel Way's short-lived "Venom" series from 2003? It's pretty bad (and I say that as a fan of the character as well), and the first five-issue story arc is a blatant rip-off of "The Thing". And then it goes downhill into complete incomprehension.

(So, of course, the whole thing is collected in a single volume, because I don't even know why...)

    ReplyDelete
  33. "that comic with the demonic brunette in purple that I can not identify even after all these year"

You mean Skynn and Bones #1? I did a list of the comics in the opening over on the TGWTG forum: http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=36481

  36. Secret origins month, YES! Flash and Hulk sound cool, though I'm surprised you're not reviewing The Avengers #1 this year. You made sure to review one team book the prior two years, and with The Avengers movie hitting it huge this year, wouldn't a review of the comic that started it all (which Joss Whedon himself said was major inspiration for the movie)be perfect timing? I dunno, seems appropriate to me, but there's always next year.
The Thing comics sounds awesome though, loved the trailer for it!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ooooh! *claps hands in glee* I thought we wouldn't get any storyline for a while, and instead we've got The Thing reviews complete with the One Of Us Is A Shapeshifter plot! On top of 31 days of horror comics! God bless October.

(And then Jay Garrick! Looking forward to that so much.)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Comic reviews...every day? =D /And/ we still get weekly AT4Ws? =D You spoil us, Linkara!

I'm really looking forward to both specials. Don't burn yourself out!

  39. I'm really looking forward to this. Since its almost October I am looking for horror stories, so this my give me some books to track down.

Also, is the host strictly a longbox of the damned character, or is there a chance that he will appear on Atop the fourth wall?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Sir, you have made the month of October more epic than it was (which I thought was a hard thing to do).

    ReplyDelete
  41. This will be very enjoyable. I'm especially looking forward to the Treehouse of Horror, I love that issue.

(Oh, and good luck with the rigors of a vid-a-day schedule).

  42. "Power and Responsibility" as in the first Ultimate Spider-man arc?!

  43. I'm hoping Johnny the Homicidal Maniac is part of this. I can't wait for October...which is tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Sweet! I love Secret Origins Month. I'm definitely looking forward to Iron Man and Hulk. Actually, I was rewatching some of the old Secret Origins episodes a while back and thought it would be interesting if you did some origin issues of some of comics' greatest arch-villains.

For instance, Batman #1 (Joker and Catwoman), Amazing Spider-Man #14 (Green Goblin), Fantastic Four #5 (Doctor Doom).

    ReplyDelete
  45. Let me guess, that make-up is a pain in the ass to get on. Looking forward to secret origins month year 3.

Also to people that hate Hulk, trust me when I say you'll be interested to see his original origin.

  48. Nope, this comic didn't suck. It wasn't great, but it was an OK adaptation, I guess. But hey, not every comic covered in ATFW has to suck- in fact I come here mostly to *learn* about the really obscure ones only Linkara tends to cover. Now, let's see how the SEQUEL comic does (can't wait to see how the Multiple Linkara confrontation handles the situation!)

On the other hand, I'm probably not going to check out the Longbox of the Damned segment. While I like the occasional horror movie or comic, in general it isn't my kind of stuff, and I don't think I would enjoy watching an in-depth study of the subject.

    ReplyDelete
  49. This is how the dialogue should go:

Linkara: Why should I trust you? You are a mad scientist! You tried to kill me and take over the world! In fact, how do I know you are not still evil? With Lord Vyce loose again, you have no real reason to be afilliated with me!

Doctor Linksano: And what makes you any better? Are we supposed to forget about the events of the last few weeks? How do we know Margaret is right? How do we know you are not still evil?

90s Kid: Dudes, I'm sensing some really bad vibes here, so maybe we should just chill out and...

Doctor Linksano: Oh, you shut up! I also remember what happened last year! Talking an eldritch abomination into killing itself by asking it what will it do after it takes over the world...that's just absurd! There is no "next" after taking over the world, taking over the world is a valid goal in and of itself!

Linkara: Spoken like a true villain, huh, Linksano?

Doctor Linksano: My point is, how do we know for sure that he's not still the Entity? In fact, maybe there's no such as a real 90s Kid, maybe he was the Entity all along!

90s Kid: Dude, are you high or something? I'm not some weird Poke-monster! Not cool, man! Not cool!

Doctor Linksano: That's exactly what the Entity would say!

Linkara: I trust 90s Kid far more than I trust you!

Doctor Linksano: Oh yeah? The last time you trusted this nimrod, the entire universe almost got erased!

Nimue: Gentlemen, this bickering will lead us nowhere...

Doctor Linksano: And don't get me started on you! Your orders are to "protect Comicron-One at all costs"...that is just begging for you to take us out in grisly fashions! And how do we know Lord Vyce didn't reprogram you into being evil when he came back and took control of Comicron One? Hell, Linkara programmed you as he was starting to go evil to begin with! How do we know we don't have another Holokara in our hands?

Linkara: Are you questioning the way I program my helpers?

Doctor Linksano: Damn right I am! I mean, Pollo already turned evil in one universe, how do we know he's not gonna turn evil in this universe?

Pollo: Hey! I'm a trusted ally and a good friend! There's nothing wrong with me!

Doctor Linksano: That's exactly what Holokara said when he went evil!

90s Kid: Dude, I think you need to simmer down, cause you are, like, bringin a lot of bad juju here, what with you saying bad things and all...

Doctor Linksano: Oh, shut up, you gore-loving imbecile!

    Linkara: No, YOU shut up!
