Wonder Woman (2011) Commentary

Linkara and Nash discuss the review of the Wonder Woman pilot!

NOTE: The audio of the review does go down a few minutes in.

  1. You might get this a lot, but I still love the various crossovers that we get from you guys.

  2. Kinda wish you had JO in for this commentary too. It might have been fun having her perspective. Too bad you weren't recording each audio separately for re-mixing so that the video of the review could have been toned down and brought up when needed.

  3. Nice show! It's been a while since your crossover review of the Wonder Woman pilot. But as someone who was very against what David Kelley was doing to this character, I have to say that I was pleasently surprised to see this follow up. I don't think I'll ever get sick of hearing people bag on that thankfully aborted show.

Interesting comments about how this would probably have worked better as a Green Arrow show, given Ollie's wealth and interest in social issues.

I also heard you mentioning some thoughts you've had about the New 52 reboot of Wonder Woman, without going into them. That's also something that I believe goes against the core of this character, so I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on it some time.

And oh yeah, turning down the audio on the pilot review was totally fine. Made it a lot easier to hear your new commentary.

Keep up the great work, Linkara!

  4. I didn't think about it when I saw the original video, but the employees clapping at the end reminds me of the Latverians cheering Doctor Doom everytime he parades in his country : in universe, they flip-flop between genuine appreciation of the man or, under most writers, fear of reprisal if they show anything but happiness.

Funny how this discussion of a review quickly becomes a second riff of the Wonder Woman pilot.

  5. Hey Linkara! Want to see the most boneheaded stupid move Marvel will ever make?!

Let's put all the fan favorite teen characters in the same book...AND KILL THEM!

    People already hate the idea.

  6. This was fun crossover but bad pilot. I have said before about this the creators got the character about as well as JMS or the new 52. I will give it credit though. Zeus isn't her father in the pilot.
I loved smallville (despite it's faults during later seasons at times) and looking forward to arrow. Sadly looks like I will have to catch on Hulu or something because of local CW channel decided to want money for free channel after 30 years.
I hope you are able to make it to magfest this year. I know you mentioned in the video how will make decision in october.
To bad the end bumper for the original episode didn't have JO picking up the bag to find hentai nash got at the start. I could see her even more mad.

  7. One thing I have ask since you mentioned it in the commentary, what are the issues you have with Wonder Woman from the new 52? I have the first trade and personally, I like the series from what I've read. I still find Wondy being the direct blood line of Zeus stupid, but I still enjoy the story over all.

  8. For what it's worth, I love the crossovers and I hope you keep doing them.

  9. You know, I don't know why Wonder Woman in this pilot is being compared to Batman.

If anything, the filmmakers seem to be trying to turn her into Iron Man.

Oh, and David E. Kelly seems unable to write anything that doesn't have something to do with the law and the legal system. I'm surprised this wasn't brought up in the review, but it seems like everyone down to the two bit hired thugs seems to have practical working knowledge of what is or is not illegal.

  10. Given all the harranging about Wonder Woman's pants in reboots, why doesn't somebody try a long, armored skirt or tunic in the Greek/Roman vein?

I think New Frontier actually went that route, and IIRC it looked perfect.
