Linkara Riffs: The Bottle and the Throttle

Linkara riffs on a depressing little short about drinking and driving. ‎

...hm. I didn't think you were all that funny this time around. there were some good lines, don't get me wrong, but you've always given me at least one good laugh in your other videos (usually from a line that you may not have intended to be funny).

I'm not too sure about the Minnesotan narrator bit, but this is still pretty funny.

What do they mean the girl died!? It didn't even look like he hit her in the shot.

Ah drunk Tony Stark jokes will never get old. And that narrator's voice was so monotone, it could put anyone to sleep!
Keep up the good work, Linkara.

You know what's screwed up, the legal amount of blood alcohol for riding a motorcycle is higher than the legal amount for driving. You'd think the government would want to off Bikers the legal way.

Not bad, but a little silent during the whole part with the guy and his girlfriend driving before the accident. I was waiting for some kind of comment about the narrator saying old people are less likely to have an accident drunk driving than young people driving normally because of their experience or about how drunk or sober, having your girlfriend sit on your lap while driving is probably a bad idea.

Good grief!
What stands out most is the .15% legal limit, what the hell?
In Australia the limit is .05, which marks the point at which judgment becomes noticeably impaired.
And even today the legal limit in California is 0.08, jeesh.

And what a long winded and dull way to try and get people to not drink and drive, they really didn't try back in the 50s.

Your riff was great Linkara, quite a few laughs.

Loved these riffs! Keep it up! I'm hoping that the guys at RiffTrax will one day ask you to do a riff with them.

So.. Doing a bit of research. The Throttle and the Bottle was either using old home movies or stock footage unless it took more than 10 years to edit because pull tab cans were around about that long before the thing was released.

Even when it first went out to school students IT WAS OBVIOUSLY OLD.

Surprised there was no Ecto-1 comment on the ambulance it even had a larger than average bit of rooftop equipment.

The dirty look they had the woman give the man. She was clearly lucid and in full control. IF she HAD been run over I don't think she would have been that cognizant.

I know you were riffing for comedy sake but dear lord does this have additional things to pick on in its own execution.

Looks like Archive.org is being kind.

Get it? A woman and her child was maimed in a car accident! Hilarious!

But on a less harsh note, this one really didn't have anything wrong or funny in it, I don't know why you chose it.

Mostly because of the title and the narrator. I instantly recognized the narrator as the same one from "Boys Beware."

I've never seen "Boys Beware", so with the joke of "It's the same narrator" having no relevance to me, this felt like a mostly cheerless episode. Chuckled once, at the Corey Hart line, but other than that, didn't like it.

A Word to the Wives, sure, that short totally worked for riffing, especially with the Christmas Story dad. But I don't think the narrator having narrated something else was enough to push this short into being a good quality material to work with.

Fair enough. I go with what I think I can make funny and if it wasn't funny for you, then I'll just try to do better next time. ^_^

Have you even riffed "Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue?" That is a classic!

You seem to be doing a lot of riffs these days, Lewis. Keep it up. As soon as you said the homosexual line, I recognized the narrator from Boys Beware. So this film as shown us the most boring way to educate someone. Why do they need the narrator? They could just have it all play out. Have the police explain all of the techincal stuff, and have the drunk driver narrate to us his thoughts about his guilt. Good riff, very funny.

Now that would be awesome

I've seen Doug's riff and...my god that was horrible. Remember kids, gay people and pedophiles are one and the same

Good lord was this narrator paid by the syllable? How to cram as much information into one PSA as possible without pausing for breath.

Tomato soup, the secret harbinger of death and corruption. Only homosexuals in their 40s drink Cambell's.

Alcohol and Gasoline
great against cops in riot-gear, as anyone who participated in the Prague riots of 2000 will gladly confirm to you

That was hilarious!
I came in thinking it'd be in poor taste - the world needs anti drink-driving PSAs - but they made it so riffably bad, you riffs worked. :(

I half-thought you'd quote Sunglasses at Night, half-thought you wouldn't. Name-dropping the singer took me by surprise!

Speaking of the Oz limits (as a commentor did), I saw (but didn't hear, I keep the TV on mute during ad breaks) an Oz anti-drink-driving campaign over the holidays, based around 'Have a Plan B' (Plan A being 'drive home drunk').
The problem with it was, they went out of their way to make the Plan Bs undesirable or impractical.
The bus stop was dingy and horrible, and had an annoying couple. The taxi was bad. The Star Trek-style transporter didn't work.
Being carried home on a throne by a dozen Vegas-style showgirls had its charms, but where are you going to get a dozen Vegas-style showgirls in Australia at that time of night?

Frank, as a Christian and a right-leaning person, I'm offended by this. Not all of us are the extremists the media claims us to be. To assume that all of us are like this is cruel and unfair.
