Wow. No Todd in the Shadows references after seeing Daredevil's outfit? That is pretty impressive.

Miller did write a story where Hulk met Daredevil. Matt spends the next issue at the hospital...
I actually liked this movie as a kid. I wonder if there were intentional reference to Miller's work (I think a nurse broke Urich's arm, but she was more muscular than this one). Also, Miller gave Matt a similar outfit in Man Without Fear a few years after the TV movie.
I guess the Who clip was inevitable, CSI Miami really ruined Glasses pull forever

Erratum on my previous post : The story where Hulk meets Daredevil was drawn by Miller but written by Roger MacKenzie (Miller only took over a few issues later)

So wait, before he became Space Jesus, Jeffrey Sinclair was working as a thug with the Kingpin? Damn, I guess he really WAS desperate for a purpose in life.

Also, can anyone explain to me why ANYONE thinks a backdoor pilot can work? I mean, if you have to TRICK the viewing audience into watching your series, then it's going to bottom out anyway!

yay i love these nash linkara film brain reviews.

Is the whole carrying and face touching scene even subtext at that point of HOYAY?

No super powered supervillains ever appeared on the Hulk series, and then when given a more realistic hero like Daredevil, they flat out refuse to get his costume right.

No matter how many times I see studios like this, I will never understand them. They say they want to make a superhero project, but then act all weary of the very idea of making things like the comic books. They didn't even try.

Also, for the record, I liked Ben Affleck as Daredevil, but only the director's cut of the film was any good. Still, if another Daredevil movie was made, I'd be much happier if it was in Marvel's hands.

Linkara, I am dissapointed.

No Surgeon General reference during the fight with the nurse?

I mean come on, it was at least one of the same heroes from that story and everything!

I'd be interested in another Daredevil movie.

How sad it is that the reviewers' skit was better acted than the WHOLE movie being reviewed? :P

Also, Nash makes the funniest faces. XD

He-hey! Filmbrain just did an anti-Seth McFarlane joke. Why so many people hate this guy? I admit his liberal satire and random cutaway gags can go a little overboard but it looks like you want to murder this dude.

A blind man who prowls the street at night wearing all black huh?

There's a traffic safety PSA somewhere in there.

I agree, but he probably didn't do because the review is so old and nobody would have got it. Or he simply just forgot

The "subway" in the movie is the Metro Vancouver SkyTrain, and the stop is Burrard Station (where they didn't get the memo that it's a SkyTrain).

"Hi" from a Metro Vancouver viewer!

I actually thought the review was with Todd in the Shadows until I looked at the title card more.

Loved the 3 Stooges snoring when you guys all fell asleep.

Was a fun review all around.

This movie and previous one didn't age well. I liked them as a kid but now man they are bad. I don't even want to think about Death Of Incredible Hulk. Oh doctor strange movie. Oh god that was bad as I saw someone else review on that.
The face palm from magfest.

Hulk looks kinda like a radioactive Gary Busey.

Great review!

...PLEEEASE tell me you guys do intend to review the Peter Van Hooten Doctor Strange movie!

While I can't stand Return I think this one is enjoyable for it's camp value... Even though that wasn't what they were going for.

The trial scene really shows what's fundamentally wrong with the movie. More than the awful dialogue, complete failures in logic, unintelligent characters and the general dated feel of the movie, it's that trial scene.

The movie has to sell to the audience the idea that this man, when angered, becomes a massive monster of terrifying strength. What do we get? A creature clearly barely larger than a man (at most) who flails around a bit.

And say what you will about the Affleck Daredevil movie, at least the costume was better (and there was a decent fight or two).

I had heard differently on the Bruce vs David thing. Namely that legal stepped in saying they found someone by the name 'Bruce Banner.' I just can't for the life of me remember where I heard/read it though.

I remember the Mad Magazine parody of the Incredible Hulk series, originally published about the time Bruce Jenner won the decathalon in the '76 Olympics. There was some dialogue about how the name Bruce was changed to David because "Bruce" wasn't manly enough. A TV is playing in the background with the announcer yelling "Bruce Jenner wins the decathalon! BRUCE is the world's greatest athlete!"

It's probably kind of sad that I remember that.

Is this movie where Marvel got the idea for Ross' mustache disappearing whenever he's Hulking-out?

And say whatever you want, but American Dad is a great series

The version I heard, was that the studio was afraid that the audience would confuse him with Batman (seeing how the Adam West series still had re-runs on some channels at that time)

What's so bad about bringing a bag of onions to a Warhammer tournament?
And speaking of, did they hire Noise Marines to torture Daredevil?

And now you HAVE TO review the Doctor Strange movie

I always actually liked this telemovie. I have the original broadcast premiere on VHS, and I bought the double feature DVD for dirt cheap a few months ago. Yeah, it's cheesy, campy, and not of a high quality. It's also a little too Daredevil centric for a Hulk movie. Still, I'll watch this any day over the actual Daredevil movie. I tried watching the director's cut of that last year, and GOD is that horrible and instantly dated in every bad way.

I was surprised you didn't remark Daredevil as looking like the Ninja Style Dancer when he first appeared. And yeah, the CSI Miami gag was inevitable.

Anyway, I LOVE the stuff you do with Nash. You two have great chemistry together. You're an excellent fit! Adding in Film Brain made it GOLD! LOVED IT!

seems an appropriate place to ask. have you read the daredevil end of days? oneo f those what if comics. it seems to have someone investigating daredevil's death at the hands of his rival, deadshot, which is not much of a spoiler as it is the premise, with a single word, madone, being daredevi's dying breath. it actually seems rather intriguing, though i am somewhat repulsed by the fact each cover has a female heroine dead, for one reason or another, on it. even had one with elektra apparrently dead from hanging. albeit these seem to have absolutely no context to the story themselves it seems, as elektra was both retired and quite alive in the comic, and the dead elektra was in her old outfit. not to mention a future cover has black widow dead in a bath tub..... a most unlikely circumstance. i would say the same for elektra, but she was once winded by a playing card. and everyone knows only a yugioh card can actually hurt someone. ask kaiba.

thorondragon said...

huh, why am i not surprised film brain is susceptible to demonic influence?

whoa, whoa, wait a minute here! daredevil fighting an evil nurse, wielding scapels, gettin his ass kicked, and you did NOT reference the daredeivl two parter review you did? that is........

actually that is perfectly udnerstandable. i looked up the episodes after my relization of this and saw you did those videos going on four years ago. i barely remebered what i had for breakfast yesterday.

still, i can't say i wasn't expecting a reference to it. i was actually waiting for it. then again i am a bit of a more resent fan of yours anyways, discovered you mid 2012 in fact. so the memory of that review is a bit fresher in my head than most.

and as a newer obefrver i did not know you did more with those two. oh boy, now i have to lurch through the hundreds of videos on that guy with the glasses to find them.

thorondragon said...

ah dman it, someone else already referenced the reviews..... well at least i had a different view on the matter.

thorondragon said...

and to clarify about the yugioh cards, i am not referring to yugioh gx when they had the shadow games that caused to mosnters to become for realz. i am in fact referencing the manga, around when it became obsessed with the card game. as you may know, in the first anime kaiba ventured to the tournament island and was held up by a goon, whom he quickly dispatches and forces to guide him through. in the manga, and the anime in its original undubbed form, the guy puleld a gun on him, and both times kaiba used one of his cards to stop him. while in the anime he uses the card to stop the hammer of the gun, wedging between so that the hammer cvould not strick the bulelt casing hard enough to trigger combustion, in the manga it seems yugioh cards are are sharp as fuckign knives as he literally cuts open his attacker's hand with one. must make shuffling the deck pretty tricky.

jsut thought i mentioned that. don't remember if you mentioned read into those chapters or not.... personalyl i somewhat prefer the manga version. you get to see demented yami yugi act really sadistic to his more wicked opponnents, which leads to him trying to kill kaiba later on to make far more sense, and the dueling arenas are actually small, enclosed shed sized virtual boxes you sit in away from the elements. it makes more sense logically, being on a mostly open spaced island, to protect the cards, acts as a better evolution to the duel disks, and has it that the duelists are face to face instead of shouting at each other at the other side of an overblown simulator.
.......... this causes me to believe that when the created the anime that the only fucking reason why had all of this overblown arenas was because in the manga panic, that darkness clown, threatened yugi not with fire, but with a leash like garrotte that he threatened to strangle yugi with...... actually panic meets are far less gruesome end in the manga ironically. while driven insane by psycho yugi's powers, he was not incinerated to death. so in other words we had the hero being threatened with an asphyxiation death and the villain driven crazy, to removing that asphyxia play and isnted having the villain burnt into charcoal...... god censoring can be backwards. and this was from the original sub too. its not like the duel with arcade when the psychotic buzzsaws of slice your fucking legs off were turned into disks that sucks out your soul.

successful back door pilots include:
Facts of Life
Masked Rider
Promised Land
Granted, not all of these lasted very long, but they still count as back-door pilots that led to shows.

I always figured that they didn't want to call him BRUCE Banner because Batman's alter ego is BRUCE Wayne, and they didn't want two "Bruce" crimefighters on TV.

I love the line about 'I can't stand trial!'
- well, neither can I, but it's all we've got.
Followed by 'you can't make me stand trial!'
- Uh, Bruce, I know you're not the lawyer here, but you understand the basics of the legal system, right?
They make people stand trial every day!

I loved the Holy Grail reference!

Link, you say: 'I'd settle for Kool-Aid Man right now...'

Yeah, and unlike some characters on this show, HE'S red!

... Also, nice Chinatown reference.

That was terrible. It doesn't help that this Daredevil looks nothing like the red-suited vigilante. It doesn't help that this so-called trial was nothing but a stupid dream cop-out. I don't think it was referring to an actual courtroom trial but still . . . this was terrible. Even the Ben Affleck film wasn't that bad compared to this crap.

One of these days, Marvel Studios will reboot Daredevil and maybe incorporate it into the Marvel Cinematic mythos. Maybe then, we will see an actual team-up between the Hulk and Daredevil that does not suck.

I know Miller is in a really bad place right now, but his run on Daredevil was brilliant. It really didn't deserve the snarky comment.

wait a minute
listens in at run time 13:26.

oooooooooooooh. you DID reference the surgeon general.
this usually would be when i face palm. but i am too busy being impressed by the expert subtlety of the joke. and laughing my ass off not only at that but the fact i did not catch it for so damn long.

linkara, going against expectations. when most would think he would have a far larger reaction or non at all, he goes in for the subtlelty.

i did forget that the daredevil issues were in fact of old miller's run on it. i guess since we didn't see a woman's ass plastered on the pages talking about male genitalia for six issues that i forgot it was.

According to something I just looked up, D.G. Chichester wrote that issue.
