Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan #2

This comic has done far worse than kill us. It hurt us... and it wishes to go on hurting us.

As soon as Pollo said the 'I am and always shall be your friend line' by immediate thought was "Oh no!"

And now I want to watch Wrath of Kahn again, probably to wash away this comic adaptation from my memory!

you do a great Ricardo Montalbain. I actually looked up the scene where he taunts Kirk on Youtube a while back. It is awesome and it is very difficult to find an intact scene.
Good review. I am not looking forward to Pollo's fate. That line: it is death's ringtone.

Unknown said...

also, Sorry about you and Liz. I have been there.

Your opinion of the "Khan" line was well-said and I completely agree. They completely failed capturing the emotional drama of the situation.

It's amazing how they even bothered making this comic if they were just going to half-ass it like this.

Anonymous said...

So does the genesis also come with an anti magic generator field? Because that was a fantastic reference

Linkara always has a plan, except for with Missingno.

Leaving the comic to your discretion, Captain, i would like to point out the new animated Pollo, as being pretty awesome. He does look a little more plastic than the original model but still very good. Although one question, when Nimue said she didn't have to follow security procedures due to the ship being in danger why didnt you order her to open all the security doors excluding the one to the bridge, trapping Mechakara there?

Superb work.

And if the publisher really wanted a challenge, they should have skipped trying to butcher the movie version and instead base the miniseries on the original book.

But... THAT... FACE... that look on your face when you said "FAIL". That was priceless!

Wait a minute...I think I know what happens next and it concerns Pollo...

Nice job on 3-D Pollo.

4:43- I love this moment, too. I guess IDW was on their lazy wagon again. They weren’t like this when they made their adaptation on “The Transformers: The Movie,” another movie from the 80s.

7:07- Now THERE’S something to add to my Christmas list this year.

8:17- I also love scenes like this, and I always enjoy listening to this score, even on your “previously on” segments.

11:45- Maybe one of the Botany Bay crew members had to go to the bathroom after having too much Mexican food, and this was the end result, but that’s just me. :)

16:39- Kirk looks like he trying to pull off his New Jersey accent, and he‘s trying to say, “Ay, what‘s goin‘ on here?”

17:27- I don’t blame ya, buddy. I’m the same way.

19:56- This is unbelievable, I agree. This is the most laziest part of this adaptation so far. In Dark Horse’s comic adaptation of “Revenge of the Sith,” Darth Vader’s “NO” moment is a full page panel, and they made it in big, bold, yellow letters with red outlining, and it has six O’s and three exclamation points. Also, like in the movie, it’s a very powerful and tragic moment.

21:21- It was also changed a bit in the 2009 film, but that’s one of the best parts of that film; we see Kirk doing the Kobayashi Maru test.

After what we’ve seen so far, I wonder how bad or worse part 3 would be. (I however can tell that the story part of this review will be epic)

28:28- Bones is great in this movie.

Something is wrong with the video is not loading fully. You might want to work on that.

I swear to goodness, between this comic series, the Silent Hill stuff, and All Hail Megatron, I'm really starting to reconsider buying any comics from IDW.

They've also done some Godzilla comics. You wanna check them out?

AdamantiumRage said...

You probably can't answer this, but you mentioned other magic guns in your Q&A- will they be the same as your current one, or different?

rutana said...

Great episode :D
Your outrage about the Khan scream was fantastic XD
But there's something that bothers me and allready did so last review - it's the quality of Liz speaking through the transmitter. It sounds as if she were in the same room and that somehow kills the effect of a transmission for me. I don't know, shouldn't it at least sound as if she would speak on phone?

And btw, you asked for the greatest jokes - the beginning of this review actually is, for me, one of the best jokes, drawing the "connection" between the new Star Trek Movie and this one :D
Awesome!

Excellent usage of the "Match Game 90" theme in your infomercial segment. Are you a closet game show fan?

I don't know much about Star Trek, but even I know about thew "KHAAAAAN!" bit. I'm going to have to see this movie now.

Linkara, do you know what series the pet "Targ" is introduced in?

Anonymous said...

First thing I would like to say is I love the CGI work on Pollo. Waht did you use? CS5 After Effects or LightWave?

As a Stra Trek fan I will say these comic books are making me want to go and rewatch the movie so I can at least see some GOOD art and story telling. I have no idea what the writers were thnking when they put this together, but I don't think they were thinking much or if at all.

I already have a feeling that something is going to happen to Pollo next week, and it just makes me wounder what you have next year in your on going plot of the show.

Last thing I have to say is that if all else fails you just pull a Data and shoot the main power core... It's a heck of a way to go, but it should take out Mechakara.

Welp I just figured out how this is gonna end after that beginning.

BooRat said...

Well, that was interesting! I kind of thought n the cover that Kirk looked like an Elvis Impersonator! :D
I liked the green-screen errors from when you held the comic up! around the light burst in the images you could see the haul f the ship being projected over them! :D
I see you made the Yurk from Animamorphs that some one mentioned last week! I liked that series! But, never read the books!

Hey, what's your thoughts on the rumors of Khan being the villain in the next Star Trek(reboot) movie!? Del Torro dropped out but a lot of people thought he had that role!

Oh Kirk with more kids thing they could always do the joke of the reason he's always trying in space is he's avoiding child support!

Andrew Dittmann said...

OK, I have seen every review you do ,and that was one of the best rants for one of the biggest fails of all time. I was actually expecting a 2 page spread for that, but then you said something about it. I knew something was wrong, and something epic would happen. You did not disappoint.

Also side note. It is kind of funny that you are complaining about
"not having a one page spread" and "only one exclamation point".
I completely understand why but it is still funny.

Great review Linkara i was laughing the whole time.

Animorphs! Hell Yeah, so good to hear some else remembers them.

opalangel7 said...

If knowing a lot about Animorphs (had most of the books and watched the terribly hilarious failed TV show) makes you a nerd, then I'm totally in the same boat... Although I tend to drift around the Sci-Fi and Fantasy world, binge on information about a certain topic, and then drift again. I'm currently between fandoms at the moment, the most recent being Doctor Who (I still have no clue what the Valeyard is other than Future Evil Doctor... at least that's my understanding of it and I have to wonder if they're going to include it/him in the new series).
I sometimes hang my head jokingly saying "I'm such a nerd" too, but I just hold my head high and be proud of my nerdiness. I am the Nerdy Teacher! I can make you believe a sonic screwdriver is real! True story actually, very funny.

popeyedboy said...

I never understood McCoy's opposition. When you think about it, the Federation could easily wipe out just about any planet with some well placed rocks. If they've already got the power to completely wipe out civilizations you're going to be relying on morality to hold them back no matter what the weapon is. This is different from WMDs in RL because a WMD has a significant chance of hurting neutrals and allies and because we clearly see that such powerful weapons are widespread in Star Trek.

As for Scotty and his nephew, SFDebris theorized that the scene with his death was originally Spock's which would make having it on the bridge make a bit more sense.

No offense is intended Linkara, but I think you did miss one point that was just lacking in logic from the movie. Kirk (the veteran) refusing to take any precautions when approaching the Reliant.

Anonymous said...

While I think most of your issues with this comic come from loving the source so much, I agree with you about the artwork, and the unnecessary changing of words without any impact on the rest of the story.

That said, it's fun to watch how much you enjoy the original, and you read the lines very very well. As always, the variety of voices you do and do well is quite impressive.

And the jokes are funny, too.

Bossman103 said...

What the hell is this? It ruins the epic Khaaaan!!!! I mean the comic is terrible. Ricardo Montiban made Khan a 3 dimensional villian. He was someone that you could sympathise with. I mean it has none of the great performances it has none of the ideas of revenge or a senbnse of hate and passion. I mean Wrath of khan is meantioned alongside hamlet in the pantheon of revenge stories and you gives us this. I mean seriously. Spiderman manga had more of the sensibility of wrath of khan than this

Great review. I like how you got pollo to say spock's line and it didn't seem forced at all.

Ac ouple comments:
His name is is pronounced 'Yo a kim'. It a pretty standard name and always pronounced that way (as far as I know). Also your blue screen is bleeding into the comic a lot.

Extremely well done. IDW is gotta be kidding me. I expected a two-full-page-spread (or however you call it), with Kirk yelling his infamous "KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!"-line, as well. And that is, what we got?

Plus, Kirk looks a bit like Edward James Olmos as Commander Adama from Battlestar in the picture, where he put the glasses on. ^^

Okay, Cybermat as security-officer? cool!

Like I said : Well done and I am looking forward to part Three.

Hopefully, you could - in the words of Jim Kirk himself - make the difference in DC.
And to quote another K-Man (Wilton Knight): One man can make a difference.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding this, because I'm a Channel Awesome fan, but not necessarilly a Star Trek fan, and the end was dramatic and interesting, and you did a great job of convincingly CGIing Pollo, and I hate to question my hero who fought for the freedom of the internet, but why did Linkara so easilly consider blowing the ship up, with all of the rest of everybody still inside it? Is he meant to be as insane as The Nostalgia Critic, like when he tried to blow up Kick***ia and himself, just for a nobeler cause?
If not, I'm terribly sorry for misunderstanding, and I look foreward to the next episode!

Lizard-Man said...

I guess everyone figured you being in DC meant no episode today.

Huh. Well I guess that means I get to post first for once. Goodie!

Okay, seriously, one panel? How underwhelming. I mean if you're gonna write that line out you should do better than one tiny little panel.

Speaking of Kirk cheating to win the Kobyashi Maru I have to ask did you find the portrayal of how he did it in the recent movie upsetting and out of character? To be fair, the full story is only revealed in deleted scenes but, gotta be honest, does make him look like a dick.

Anonymous said...

I'm still not sure what to think of CGI Pollo in this episode. It's nice to see him floating and I also liked the fact he looks like what he would look like if Pollo had been made with better quality. There is just something fake about it that makes the cardboard box Pollo seem surprisingly more realistic.

Oh and also, not as could of a cliffhanger as last week's episode, but I still can't wait to see the end.

Also, I'm sure that all that bumping around caused Linksano's experiment to fail and so now he will join the group.

Anonymous said...

Damn, only $59.95? That's a pretty good deal. XD

Anonymous said...

I'm kind of confused about the continuity between your episodes. There are some episodes where there something is going on over a period of weeks or months. But sometimes there are episodes that literally take place seconds after the last episode like the end to the Entity story arc. This is especially noticeable in here, are you stuck in the pipes of the ship for weeks or do these videos take place one after another. If that is the case, than does that mean that the threat is over long over by now and you just release the recorded videos as part of a schedule.

I know this is nit-picky but I would like for you to clarify these issues.

Also, why didn't you make a Red Dwarf joke when Khan said "It's very cold in space", I'd love to hear you sing the theme song to the show if brief.

Shada said...

Darn you Linkara! That scene between you and Pollo got me all teary-eyed (especially with the foreshadowing). That was extremely well done sir.

This comic continues to baffle me. Why was it even produced if they were going to change scenes at random? Very, very strange choice. It's like IDW noticed that no one had done Wrath of Khan, so picked it up cheap and spent as little cash as possible on it to exploit Trekkies.

Awesome episode...I'm going to go watch Space Seed now.

FugueforFrog said...

Somehow I fear for the final part. Sending Poyo to save the ship on it's own with Mechakara still running about and the final "Wrath of Khan" issue to come...it just sends off warning signs in my head. But hey, at least you have a little Cybermat to help you out...just sort of hope that doesn't lead to some Cyberman invasion down the line but we're in Star Trek mode for the moment, not Dr. Who.

I really don't know which was more epic in this episode: your "Genesis" ad or the whole rage regarding the "Khan yell". Both really made the episode, the former just because of how absurd and hilarious it was (a free book on committing genocide), the latter just for the facial expression because of how the comic screws it up. You'd think if they saw the movie and know what people remember of it, you'd expect at least a bigger panel and red letters for Kirk's rage...but hey, that's why this comic sucks.

Is it just me or is Linkara'a Khan voice starting to sound more and more like Dr. Doofenshmirtz?

Anonymous said...

Wow, I guess this wasn't very good. I see what you mean about the art work, and how did they not emphasize one of the most classic lines in Star Trek history? Usually comio adaptations help the story. For instance, the comic version of Superman IV is actually an improvement on the movie. However, this was clearly just thrown together for a quick buck. No work was put into this at all.

Anonymous said...

The... Comic: ... Where do I even start? ... The artwork reaaaaally seemed to take a nose dive this time around. The dialogue changes...? GRAHHHHH. Would it have been so difficult for them to have rented the movie, assuming none of them had the movie anyway? The... "KHAAAAAAAAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!" scene... I've been thinking about this for at least a week. Picture if you will: Two page spread (any less seems inadequate), Shot of Regula as the main focus. Inset a shot of Kirk, mid yell somewhere on there. The word "Khan" stretching across the page (possibly longer than above). Boom, there ya go.

Your Arc: ... Oh boy, things just keep getting worse for you.

Other: It took me a moment to realize which version of Pollo you were using when he first came on screen, very nicely done. Could use a little work on your eye line, though.

Fiery Little One

Jai137 said...

"I have, and always will be your friend"
Did you have to include that line? For those who even have a remote understanding of ST2:TWOK, it's a massive spoiler for how this story arc's going to end.

This review kicked ass!.I think your crowning moments of heartwarming, awesome and funny pages are going to be updated after this review. Linksano did something really cool since I'm guessing he sent the cybermat for help. You're right the worms do look like they came from Animorphs. As for the adaptation comic. It sucks. Even I, who isn't a Star Trek fan knows about the Khan scream. Also, I liked the special effects for the ship.Once again this review was hella cool! Linkara.

GundamRX_b1 said...

Honestly, that's just embarressing. They ruined an iconic scene, the art drags in places and they ruined the dialogue. Still better than anything Joe Quesada related.

Anonymous said...

Good job, I like how you always have a story arc going. Look forward to the conclusion!

Anonymous said...

Hey Lewis, Im a big fan of Star Trek (Though not as much as you) but I have a question to ask.

While I totally agree with you that this comic did in NO WAY make the KHAN scream anywhere near as huge as it was in the movie, why did Kirk shout it in the first place? He already knew about the deception with Spock about repairing the ship so he knew he'd be rescued. So, storywise in both the movie and the comic, what was the point?

Anonymous said...

For future reference, Joachim is pronounced Yo-A-Keem, not Joe-A-Chim

TwilightLink21xx said...

Ah, Wrath of Khan comic, you never cease to amaze your fail. Seriously, if they did do the "KHAAAAAANN!!!!!!" as an over the top Two-Page spread, that alone would justify it's existence.

Anyways, awesome review as always, and the storyline is actually almost better than the review this time around (and coming from someone that's nearly had it with review shows using storylines for the reviewers, that's saying a lot. Maybe it's just the Trek nostalgia speaking this time around, but then again, I've always admored the logic and concepts, just never the drawn out fights. I'll more than admit that my action movie addiction is part of why I feel the way I do about fights.). Seriously though, you've got me worried about Pollo!

Tay said...

I thought your neck veins were going to pop about that whole "Khan" thing. I'm not a Star Trek fan, but even I think that was a let down. Come on, everyone knows that scene.

BTW, had to find you here since the TGWTG site seems to be down. Weird, right?

lost_limey said...

How the hell do they screw up the KHAAAAAN! scream? I know you mentioned it in the review, but it's so stupid that I have to mention it again.

TimeTravelerJessica said...

Pollo going down to the engine room to fix it ... Oh dear ... I think I have an idea where this is going, and if I'm right I am braced for tears.

This comic adaptation certainly does seem pointless.

Ray Kelley said...

I don't even get the point of this thing, or really any comic adaptation in this day and age. Back in the day, like say when the TOS films were new, the comic was a way to relive the film a bit after it was gone from theaters and you wouldn't get to see it again until it aired on TV years later. Now, movies hit the home video market in a few months, and are readily availible for repeat viewings. There's no need to revisit the story in comic form.

That goes doubly for a movie like this that everyone's seen dozens of times.

Nicholas said...

Great review as always. I have a question though. What's wrong with the That Guy With The Glasses website? I try getting on, but all I get is a 502 error. Is there something wrong with the site?

Ming said...

Let me be the first to post a comment on this:

This unnecessary movie adaptation sucks even more by the minute, especially given that it leaves out a lot of the film's plot points.

I mean, really, reducing the iconic "KHAAAAAANNNNN!!!!!!" scream to just one panel is a dethroning moment of suck.

Your rant against that moment of EPIC FAIL is one of the favorite moments of the year.

I can't wait to see the epic finale to your rematch against Mechakara.

As always a great review, and with it an interesting storyline, i know this is of topic, but i feel since you are an expert in the characters of DC, that i should as you this question:

What is you opinion, on a Batman/Wonder woman pairing.

It's recently gotten very popular, it has wedsites dedeicated to it and on deviantart it rivals the BM/CW pairing, and when you look at them it makes sense.

Both warriors who have trained since childhood, both pround, both honourable, both stubron and very dedicated to thei mission, to me it's almost like a reversal of Lois Lane and Superman.

Linkara I love your work and all and the review is hilarious but this comic can not possibly be bad. Yes it may skip a scene or two but it is still star trek. We are not going to get a Dark Knight returns her or Superman at Earths-End. Lets face it compared to them this is Kingdom Come

Keyln said...

Not a bad review there, and I rather enjoyed it. Although, I'm a bit surprised that you didn't use a "COMIIIIIIIIIIIC!" gag.

Also, and maybe it's the tester in me that's saying this, but the shaking effect looks a bit too jerky for me during the story sequence at the end.

Anyway, I enjoyed it.

DMaster said...

Huh...not one comment approved and the episode's been up for nearly half a day. This is...peculiar. Coupled with TGWTG itself being down, yet videos keep appearing on blogs and Blip accounts...what is going on here?

As for the comic, WHAT. THE. BLAZING. INFERNO. I wasn't expecting much from this thing, especially after last week and from all that I know of IDW...but dropping the ball on such crucial, iconic pieces of characterization, and one of the most famous memes of all time, even known to the least geeky people out there...this comic decides it throws off the tone and treats it like it was nothing. Between this and all those comics Mr. Ciencin wrote...what is UP with that friggin' company?!

One thing about the story that I'm puzzled and maybe worried about: where is Linksano in this scenario?

Dave said...

You know, if you combine this with Star Trek #1, then THAT comic becomes much more original... since stuff it copied is left out here!

Genius!

Devar said...

As usual great work on reviewing these comics, I must admit I have seen one of those issues and even I kinda was like "Why they take that scene out" or "That line out/changed" now granted comics are meant to make you want to see the movie so they tend to summarise details and such.

But this really really hurts the movie credability to a certain extent but also with it coming out 20 years later meant that the reason to make a comic adaptation is lost since nearly everyone interested in Star Trek would have seen the movie in that time.

Anyway do forgive me for nerding out in my own mini review like way but I just enjoy talking about these things.

Really like how you are taking this review, your analysing and comparing to the movie which is good since your fixing what the comic creators failed to do and basically showing the best parts that fans or even movie goers should check out and watch in that movie.

Heck even I was appalled at the lazyness of certain panels especially in the famous "KHAAAAAAAANNN!!!!" line. Though when Kirk said he was old and such I would have been tempted to show a scene from his latest comedy of S*^& My Dad Says since he has a quite a few funny lines in that show.

So as per usual keep up the great work Linkara and good luck in reviewing the last comic Issues of Wrath of Khan, till next time.

With that opening, and my back-knowledge of what happened to the last man to say words along the lines of Pollo in TWOK, I am worried for that little carboard robot.

Anonymous said...

Okay, based on that speech from Pollo at the beginning, and based on the fact that he's getting a new body, I know what's coming (or at least have a good guess). You are going to kill off Pollo in a heroic sacrifice a la Spock's death, and then bring him back in his new body afterward. This just further enhances the symbolism that Pollo is the Spock to your Kirk, along with Mechakara as your Khan. Well played, my good sir. Well played, indeed.

Woof. Although I know certain creative liberties must invariably be taken when adapting something to fit in another medium, I'm left to wonder exactly how much brass a person has to have in order to think that they can make changes to a (well-regarded, in this case) work and have it turn out well.
Also, and this is completely the English Major pedant in me talking here but, I'm reasonably certain that Joachim is pronounced something like "Wah-keem."
A skewering well-done, in any case.

In this case, it was looking like Mechakara was going to gain control of the ship, so he decided to blow up the ship and tell everybody to run like hell for the scout ship.

Lewis Lovhaug said...

"I'm kind of confused about the continuity between your episodes.

I know this is nit-picky but I would like for you to clarify these issues."

It's one of those quirks of the medium of internet reviews. They're happening one after another, it's just the audience sees it from their own perspective week to week.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 did this once or twice, too, where they have a cold open despite the fact that the events occurring storyline-wise are happening mere seconds after the previous episode.

Lewis Lovhaug said...

"Also, why didn't you make a Red Dwarf joke when Khan said "It's very cold in space", I'd love to hear you sing the theme song to the show if brief."

Also: DAMN! I should have thought of that!

Lewis Lovhaug said...

"While I totally agree with you that this comic did in NO WAY make the KHAN scream anywhere near as huge as it was in the movie, why did Kirk shout it in the first place? He already knew about the deception with Spock about repairing the ship so he knew he'd be rescued. So, storywise in both the movie and the comic, what was the point?"

I think it was just the culmination of all his anger over the lives lost and how Khan still wants to kill others just to get at him.

NO! I don’t want Pollo to die!

Thanks for another grate review. The background on Comicron-1 is just beautiful and CGI Pollo looked brilliant. I can’t believe they messed up the “KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!” line. How did they even manage to screw that up?

Lewis Lovhaug said...

"Good episode, can't wait for the conclusion. Oh and If ya don't mind me asking what prompted you to go with the CG Pollo?"

Green screen woes, unfortunately.

I filmed plenty of shots of him in front of the green screen, but because of blue being a close color to green and the paint is very shiny and reflective, I couldn't get a proper screen out of him.

Trust me - I believe firmly in ptractical effects, but this was simply a situation of "I couldn't do it any other way." Even the CG Pollo has a bit of problem (I don't use the green screen function in Premiere for it, but the chroma key, since the green screen function still takes out half his body).

CaptainCalvinCat said...

Although Pollo is reciting the Spock-quote I am not in concern about him, because, maybe - just maybe - one can get his "Katra" (meaning his hard-drive), copy and download it into another Pollo-body. A bit like Data and forshadowed B4. ^^

From a logical perspective the review is flawless but this time all humor is absent, there is nothing to laugh about and comedic speaking this episode is a massive failure.

Maybe you tone down yourself too much this time, in my honest opinion that's was probably the closest you can get by yourself from your own Episode V, less Shatnerisms next time.

Also when you are looking at Pollo you are looking at the wrong angle, Pollo is positioned below your immediate line of vision so if he was really in front of you you should be looking slightly down and straight to his red eye but instead at the scene you are clearly watching above Pollo and not at him.

Moving on, Cybermat saves the day ? Liz still does nothing and suddenly you can teleport yourselves out of the ship and set the self destructive sequence to explode everything after just to be unable to scape at the momment the reactor overloads ? Sorry but for me you also fail in building up tension properly because fells like you can pull a god-ex-machina solution out of your sleeve at any moment.

If this was not an amateur production maybe one of your friend critics would crush your few production values into oblivion.

And adding above all things you and Liz broken up, that's a shame, i fell miserable because you both look like a perfect match for each other and now maybe you lost your main actress.

None of Linkara's enemies achieve this kind damage against the hero so far, i wonder how things are going to be in the future.

Judging from the lyric, he's a pretentious smartass, but I don't know.

Also wondering if you're going to be doing a TAIS this week?

nº 1 Star Trek : The Wrath of Khan
nº 2 Star Trek : The Search for Spock
nº 3 Star Trek : The Voyage Home
and
nº 4 Star Trek : The Undiscovered Country

everything else is utterly useless crap with all TNG movies included.

"Linkara, I've noticed that just about nobody reviews Nintendo Wii games on TgWtG. Is it that you guys are too scared from their absolutle ball suckiness or is it that none of you own a wii?"

TGWtG.com made a spin-off website named Blistered Thumbs that pretty much covers only video game reviews. There are some reviewers on there that are not featured on the TGWtG site. While those that started on TGWtG.com first are still featured on the website, it's just that their video link will go to Blistered Thumbs instead (Angry Joe for example).

Also, yes: There have been Wii reviews on TGWtG. Check out the "Video Games are Awesome" crew. They have done a couple of horrid shovel ware Wii games.

However, I view the Wii like I do the Nintendo DS or games for the Computer. Yes, they have a ton of games for the system, but a lot of it is cheap shovel ware. So it takes a while to find something actually good. And I also find it really funny as a old school gamer that Nintendo does that now when one of it's old mottoes to insult Sega's Genesis was, "Quality over Quantity".

For those not in the know (Video Game history): Nintendo had a iron-grip practice enforced on video game companies that made them release only a few game titles a year. However, it backfired on them when Sega put out the Genesis (Their previous Master System didn't do too well) and they didn't have the same practice Nintendo had. Because few games were released on the NES, people started buying Genesis consoles like crazy because it had a larger game inventory.

Sega also didn't have the same censorship rules Nintendo did, so Nintendo was trying to go after Sega when the whole Mortal Kombat/Night Trap case went down. Sega did have it's own rating system at the time, and after that case was over: Resulted in the basic rating system we have now.

What Nintendo did with game companies at the time made sense since it saved the video game industry after the crash, but it was stupid to keep doing it after the Nintendo NES did really, really well. Which lead both Sega and NEC (Turbo Graphix) to taking advantage of that flaw.

The other big dumb Nintendo mistake resulted in the Sony Playstation: They let Sony make them a console, thought it was a waste of time, and then signed a deal with the Philips company (CD-i) instead.
Good going guys in royally pissing off Sony so badly and actually letting them get away to back-stab you for it.

Who knows if the WiiU will be another one on the list of mistakes for Nintendo.

Eh, not very fond of this. Maybe it is because I don't really care for "wrath of khan", probably because I grew up in an era where every tv-series made had a "lets-rip-off-classical-literature" episode. I personally liked the 6th movie best.

Also, this comic just plainly does not lend itself to a three-part review, since the problems are essentially the same between issues, and there aren't any real new situations to make fun of, leaving these episodes short on humour.

All that said, I really look forward to your identity crisis video.

Also, fun fact, Rob Liefeld is the writer for a webcomic now: http://avengelyne.keenspot.com/ .

A+ on that, you deserved and i can't put emphasis enough on that :

Any chance for Linkara on drag in the next part ?

@CaptainCalvinCat

At this point anything that may happen is not foreshadowing anymore, we are stuck in cliché territory and hoping Lewis can provide the plot twist we deserved and didn't expected.

So far i am hopeless : kill characters, exploding things, characters switching from evil to good and vice versa, Lewis moving to California, a New Linkara takes the show in a Doctor Who regeneration style, what do you have in store for us Lewis ?

P.S.: and about really bad comics here goes something that may become a legendary review :

Incredible Hulk Annual #16;
Namor Sub-Mariner Annual #02;
Silver Surfer Annual #05;
and
Doctor Strange Annual #02;

they must be read together following this sequence, is the most outrageous crossover i ever saw in my readings so far and you should made a review about.

If you like magic then you should take a look at "Weird Magic", somehow according to this where scientific Dark Matter ends for Physics Weird Matter starts for Magic.

Okay, it is not a german name, but is really in usage here, while in the netherlands, which is just one hop across the border, the names are Jochem, Jochum, Joggem, Joggum and they all come from the Name Jojakim, who was a King OR the man called Saint Joachim, which derives from Yəhôyāqîm. And Yəhôyāqîm was the father of Mary, the mother of Jesus.

Something I have to say: I really, REALLY think you need to reign your anger in during your videos. Lately you seem to be overreacting to so much stuff, which is fine for reviewers like the Nostalgia Critic but doesn't really suit your character.
Bellowing in anger over the fridging of a little girl? Understandable. Ripping mightily into the botched and unnecessary status quo change of a beloved character? Fine. Boiling over because a comic book panel doesn't properly convey the movie scene it's adapting? ...Not so much.
Put another way: if someone were to walk into a comics shop and see you doing your rant about the "KHAAAN!" scene to another person, they would stand around awkwardly and try not to make eye contact with you. What you're doing here is basically that, multiplied by however many viewers are watching. It makes me uncomfortable. (Not that your criticism was misplaced--your overreaction to it was. I'm not saying there's no room for such reactions in your reviews, but space them out and use them wisely.)

Correction : the previously mentioned storyline suggested for a smashing review is The Return of the Defenders with the correct appointed issues below :

*The Incredible Hulk Annual #18
*Namor, The Sub-Mariner Annual #2
*Silver Surfer Annual #5
*Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme Annual #2

Is the most insane storyline ever written by a human.

CaptainCalvinCat said...

Reading actually helps, CaptainSake. I said the father of MARY is Yəhôyāqîm, which is the root of the name "Joachim". But, besides that point...

I am not fond of that "you have to like that movie, or you are not a true fan"-mentality. I am not really a fan of all that vampire-movies, but I enjoyed the Series "Moonlight" (with Sophia Myles) and the german movie "Wir sind die Nacht" (We are the night), which is quintessential the characteristics (NOT THE CHARACTERS) of my ever loved Gotham City Sirens plus a newcomer as vampires. But Vampire-FIlms like "Dracula" I don't like. Nor this awful teenage-vampire-movies about glittering vampires.

There are moments, in which I absolutely dislike TWOK (e.g. some parts of the soundtrack, I just don't like), but like the quasi-remake "Star Trek Nemesis".

But I am a fan.
Not a true fan in your ways of thinking, Sake, but to be honest, I don't give a thing about it. I am a fan in my own right.

And if I would be asked "what are the best movies of Star Trek" I would say, that i could not really answer that question, because every movie has its good moments and every movie has its "Oh that is bullcrap"-scenes.

However, Mr. Linkara, what I definitely would find extremely funny, would be a Lets play of the multi-player option of ELite Force II, between you, the Angry Video Game Nerd, Nostalgia Critic, Nostalgia Chick and SFdebris.
I think, that could be hilarious. ^^

It's that true ? Did your heart growth three sizes after your visit to DC (the capital, not the skank works publisher) ? Are you the one who will bring balance to the force ? Did Miller lawyers finally arrive at your door step after several years travelling on foot ? It's this the end of days ???

Because if not i am very disappointed, i beat a good sum of money in favor and against you, that you would beat and be beaten, damn it i even pay the judges and the referee for this, why you can be a good boy and fall at the 30th assault together with Mr.Miller so the judges can decide the match for an split decision ?

Maybe i should make my comments on The Last Angry Geek channel instead, i wonder if he isn't more successful than you after all.

"I just express my opinion but for some reason somebody didn't understand as such and that's sad, i guess we have better things to comment and discuss so i'm not going any further in this matter."

To be honest, CaptainSake, I am not surprised, that your words are not entirely understood. Sometimes I feel confused, too. Take the discussion about damsels in distress for example. At first, you are “berating” Linkara for not using his XO wisely, then you make a full 180 turn and say, that damsels in distress are not that bad and stuff. Maybe it was because it was early in the morning, when I read that, but I couldn’t help but being utterly confused.

Besides that, expressing an own oppinion – no matter if we are supposed to live in an enlightened society, where people have the right to express their own oppinion – is always kinda dangerous, especially in the internet, because of those anonymus dingbat trollpants who are just waiting for any excuse to troll around.

You see that phenomenon even here, in the blog, where that one comedian said, that Linkara and Channell Awesome would suck and that they should get a life, a job and do something productive.

Besides the point, that I think, that those reviewers (and I include all reviewers in that assessment) are de facto doing something productive, by reviewing and hence offering fact-based analysis and reviews (spiced up with sarcasm and humour of course) and therefore some are curious and want to make up their own mind, so they buy those comics, read them and say “Okay, Linkara is right – Amazons Attack sucks” OR they say: “I don`t know where Linkaras problem is. Amazons Attack is not THAT bad.”

It is something like on the nostalgia critics homepage: he reviewed “The Avengers” (not that with Hulk, Thor, IronMan and sexy Scarlett Johanson, but with Voldemort and The Bride as John Steed and Emma Peel), he reviewed Twister, he reviewed “Jingle all the way” – and all of those movies were utterly destroyed. Those movies would suck, he said.

I for my part like “The Avengers” (the movie as well as the 60s Series with Diana Rigg), I like “Twister” and I like “Jingle all the way”. But I owned them, before I encountered that site. I have to say, that the Nostalgia Critic has valid reasons to say, that those movies are not that good – hell “The Avengers” was critizised by newspapers all around the world for being extremely hack.

But never the less, I enjoy those movies – I enjoy “the Avengers”, because I grew up watching the original show. (okay, I don’t want to make myself older, than I actually am, I watched the show in the re-runs). I am old enough to see the mistakes of the movie being pointed out, but also I am old enough to say “You know, screw that, I like the movie anyway.” ^^

I see AT4W and think “Okay, when Amazons Attack is published in my country, I’ll buy it. Because I want to see, if it lives up to the shitty expectations, that are brought up by Linkara”

CaptainCalvinCat said...

Sorry, to doublepost, but apparently the comment-section can't handle more than 4096 letters. ^^

I actually own a comic, which he critizised, that is the “Star Trek Elite Foce”-comic and I actually agree with him on some points – but again, I owned that comic waaaaay before I even had Internet. ^^
Like I said, there are some aspects, which Lewis is actually right, to say, that that comic is not thaaaat good – like the opening panel with the voyager being under attack by a borg cube – but I enjoyed it as a good read.

"No, Miller is still a hack and a crazy old man."

And we call him "Steve", right?
Just one question, what exactly is it with Miller and Holy Terror. Has he made a comic that is called like that or did he say something about the senseless war? And what did he say against "Occupy wall street"?

Just one other thing, Linkara:
When I think about Miller, I think about this utterly senseless scene with Vicky Vale in her underwear in front of that window. We all agree, that that is a senseless and sexist scene. If you excuse me, to again bring up my "Star Trek / Battlestar Galactica fanfic": In one board, where I posted it, I was called a sexist from one user, too. For once, because I wrote about "Six", I guess, but on the other hand, the user seemed really to have problems with my depiction of Cals XO, a really competent, sexy looking redhead.

Now my question: If she is a great mind, a great fighter, and her flaws are, that she overanalyzes things a bit and, her other flaw is her boyfriend, the incompetent hack, that is the captain of the ship, is that really "sexist depicture" or is that just ONE voice and you should see that as a warning?

Just my five cents.

Just something, that sprung into my mind:
“Liefeld, you’re not an artist”, goes the line in your intro-song, and while I personally are thinking, that you are right with that assessement, I think, that there would be others, that would say, you are wrong.

And so, per definitionem, he is an artist, because some people think, that e.g. a white wall with a few red, blue, bronze, brown and orange dots on it is extremely lazy, others interpret expressions, world-views and stuff in it. One of the definitions of an “artist” is, that he creates art. But, what is art? Is it really a completely nice drawn picture, like in some comic-books? Is it pointilism? What is art?

Is your work a piece of art? Just two Captains views to support that thought.
Me (CaptainCalvinCat) says, that you, Sir, are an artist, because you do something, that has entertaining value. Captain Sake says other things, that the review story arc now is some kind of cliché.

What is art?
Who is an artist?
Okay – for the sake of the rhyme you can’t sing “Liefeld – in my point of view – you are not an artist, Brodsky – in my point of view – you are not the smartest”, that doesn`t work.

Because even Brodsky, as sexist as he might be, there are people, I am well sure of that, who say: “Hey, he is a great thinker”.
And before you say “What is wrong with you?” I don`t say that I am one of those, I just say, that there are others.

And as idiotic and lazy, and hack and sexist some of us think, that Brodskys work is (Sultry Teenage super foxes e.g. *shudders* I mean: the story is just crappy crap.), there would be persons, who say: “Nope, I like that one.”

I am sure, there are people out there, who say that this comic adaptation of TWOK is actually good. I am sure of that.
I am sure, there are people, who like the TOS comic “The Mirror-Universe” and I am not ashamed of saying, that I am one of them, although it creates a whole alternate universe, because it takes the complete fourth movie and throws it in the trashcan.
But I like it. ^^

So, what is art? Am I an artist, because I write words, that actually seem to entertain some people? I dunno. I wouldn’t call myself an artist, but what is an artist? What does he?

Sorry, I know those thoughts are extremely off topic, but they just hit me.

Okay, another post of mine - sorry - but I have an idea. I wrote on the first "installment" of this Comics Review, that you sometimes tend to "disappoint" the expectations of the viewers, and now I have an Idea, how that storyline could end.

Okay, brace yourselves for stupidity, people, but it is just my brain going wild.

The Idea, that it is pollo, who dies, is cemented in our minds, because Pollo said the spock-quote. He is sent to engeneering, like Spock went there in the comic.

So it is safely to assume, that Linkara is safe, right?
Hehe, not entirely, because, if it would be me, writing that, I would have Pollo saved and Linkara facing his death, while his role is taken over by Mechalinkara and he and IronLiz would be dying on the ship, while it explodes.

That is just my idea, because you direkt us thinking in the exact same direction, as the movie was made. Either you are following "standard elite forces procedure" or you are screwing with the expectations.

Another Idea is, that Pollo downloads himself in the kidnapped "new torso" for him, deletes Mechakara that way and saves the day twice. ^^

@CaptainCalvinCat

Superb critic, i have no words to say because i had a hard day at work but everything looks pretty decent.

@Lewis

I hope you had fun and enjoyed everything you filter and keep copies saved for future reference.

Please next time in the future don't pic a comic at random for Miller Time. Read first, reviewed later and burn when deserved it, that way you cash more in credibility.

I am a english speaker amateur and everytime i made a sentence i struggle against more than 25 years of negligence in scholarship, i could learn a lot more if i didn't wasted my time being an ass.

That's why my arguments looks like something written in Yodish rather than anything taken from an universal translator. That would help if i had one.

I am still tired and had no time to go into your comment point by point but please Pollo is a robot and robot don't die, you just give him a new body and download his memory in it, my bet is this : Linkara is gonna die at the end of the story arc.

See you later.

English is not my native language, either, and sometimes, I just hope, that the comment I write... it makes a lot of sense in my head, and thought in my own language, but I absolutely am not fond of using dict.cc or other tanslation tools to translate whole sentences. Some words - granted, but not entire sentences. So, sometimes my english is rather wooden.

Yeah, I know that Pollo is a robot and... psssst, just among the two of us: The entire thing is not real. ^^

I know, that robots cannot die, they are destroyed, and they can download data from one "body" to the next - but, in thinking of Linkara sometimes screwing with our expectations, I would not be surprised, if he came up with another way, another idea out of the laid out way and concept of the story-arc. ^^

To something completely different: They are still debating about SOPA, right? Hopefully, they will stop it.

Hm. Y'know, I went back and watched the 2009 movie. Kirk never mentions hating to lose, but he does, during the confrontation over his actions in the Kobyashi Maru scenario, state that "He doesn't believe in a no-win scenario."

That's the only nit I've really got to pick, and it's not a huge one. Otherwise, well done.

I wonder if they altered it for the wide release, since I recall in the movie in theaters he said he didn't like to lose and didn't mention not believing in a no-win scenario.

Oh Sh.... oh man, how... of course, I didn't mean with "hopefully, the stop it", "hopefully they stop discussing about it", but "hopefully they will stop that bill from being made into a law."

Didn't they had a name more idiot than SOPA, because SOPA in portuguese is the same as Soup and far as this goes the event around this bill looks more andmore like a Soap Opera than anything else.

I wonder if the fine gentleman from the state of Minnesota will allow this comment of the representative of the great state of denial to pass.

Can we agree about SOPA be the first step into the beginning of an evil Empire of censorship and no freedom of speech ?

Capt. Sake "Hancock" Mangusto said...

Thank you Chairman Lovhaug for allowed concerned non-inane comments on this blog, now american fan base please : "DO YOUR PART TO STOP SOPA, WRITE TO YOUR REPRESENTATIVES AND PREVENT AMERICA TURNING INTO A DICTATORSHIP!" Just humors funny comments are not enough to block this.

Regarding the SOPA bill, I read somewhere that it's been slightly revised: sites that end in .com, .org, or .net are not targeted by this bill. So sites like this, TGWTG, and TvTropes are safe. For now, at least.

On topic... I actually saw Star Trek: Insurrection when it was in theaters. Given that I was six years old at the time (and probably because it was boring as hell) I remember absolutely nothing about that movie. Which I'm guessing is a good thing.

Capt. Sake "Hancock" Mangusto said...

Back on topic, now i know why i didn't laugh at Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan #2 :was because the second issue is mostly depressive and there is nothing for really laugh or joke about. people are dying, lives are in danger,Khan is getting the upper hand and despite inumerous flaws on this issue there is nothing to laugh about the last breath of a cadet.

Issue #2 makes me feel sad about those people who are facing odds almost able to overwhelming them.

I hope issue #3 may be better.

P.S. for my self.: You promise to behave. Keep it this way.

Capt. Sake "Hancock" Mangusto said...

Just because they are supposed to be safe now that doesn't mean they will not be in danger later.

I need to remember how to work a VCR so I can watch Wrath of Khan. I haven't seen it since I was a little kid. It's been way too long. And my parents never bought it on DVD for some reason. We bought the special edition of the FIRST movie on DVD, but not Wrath of Khan. I can't comprehend why.

Though it's still not as baffling to me as how you SCREW UP THE KHAN SCREAM. HOW DO THEY DO THAT?! "Yeah, we'll give the opening scene an unnecessary two-page spread, sure. But the epic yell of 'KHAAAANNNN?' Nah. We just put that in a little panel in the corner."

BULL.

And why this show isn't more prolific about concerning topics ? This a personal blog Lewis, not a TGWTG protectored that mandate you to do and talk about what they want only.

You are a blogger sovereign autonomous territory, where is the post where we can comment about the war to raise awareness against the S.O.P.A. bill ?

I am asking because i don't want to deviate this comment section further more from the Wrath of Khan, your storyline or anything related to and in my opinion comments about the S.O.P.A. bill has nothing to do with the topics meant to be here.

So i politely request again, may we have some brief words of your own about this matter so my self and your fans can comment about ? I hope you guys from Channel Awesome didn't have throw the towel yet.

This is a serious matter.

I can't comment about S.O.P.A. in 140 characters or less and keep topics strictly for business and comics related issues its ok since this is your blog but i can't prevent my self from raising an eye brow on that.

I think S.O.P.A. clearly may and if pass will affect your business in a way or another so this is a business related topic but as stated above this is your blog and i will not push on you whatever you should accept as a topic to be posted or not here, (i think i already try to pass this motion three times and i all cases the chairman a.k.a. you, denied to proceed because obvious attempts to add unnecessary humor that i will not add here despite i'm be very tempted- i watch Transformers The dark of Moon Rifftrax this morning ) i just don't want look like someone who is trying to hijack a comment section in favor of a non-related topic.

I imagine if you don't have something to add about the trip to Washington, Spoony made a good explanatory vlog post about that. Was more entertaining than watching William Shatner take over your body and soul for one quarter of an hour.

Oh, thanks for a polite reply for a polite question, i was start to think you only respond when you get angry and annoyed.

P.S.: can you see why i can't twit this ? Would take forever and sometimes even here i go beyond 4095 characters limit. I beg you to reconsider.

CaptainCalvinCat said...

And there is the problem, that some people - like me - don`t have twitter, nor will they. So - yes - a post here would be something, that should be thought about, so we can discuss it under that post, instead of "spamming" it here, on TWOK-Comic Number two.

It is just something, one should think about, but - on the other hand - if you want to keep it strictly business and comic-concerning, it is okay.

I am sure I will get nailed to a bulkhead for saying this, but I actually liked the Wrath of Khan comic. I was very young when the movie was originally released (don't ask what my stardate of birth is, that is classified information)and had never gotten into TOS until the 2009 movie, which I also liked...

After watching parts one and two of your review, I find myself torn in two. One part of me is feeling utterly destroyed that something I really like is slammed by so many. Fortunately, that part is drowned by the larger, more rational side of me that realizes that everyone is entitled to an opinion and in all likelihood, the majority will probably win out. However, I will reserve final judgement until I have seen the movie, tentatively planned for the near future, possibly even before part 3 of this review is posted.

I am hoping that Pollo does survive, however it seems logical that s/he/it will sacrifice him/her/itself to save the ship. Or maybe this is just a red herring and Linkara will fall victim to the curse of the red shirt? Who knows... until then, Draven out.

Lewis Lovhaug said...

Well, don't worry, Erik - you are free to disagree with me. ^_^ I do hope you see the movie soon, though - I think you'll enjoy it.

Capt. Sake "Hancock" Mangusto said...

Point to be taken : everybody goes to see a movie like The Thing on theaters and later in the same day or as soon as possible in the next day everybody post something about telling what they think about the experience.

Why the same doesn't apply to the trip to Washington ? Spoony and Angry Joe post something, why you didn't yet Lewis ?

Schedule issues doesn't count in this case Lewis, the all thing goes around the necessity to raise awareness about the matter and just because you are bigger at twitter than here i guess you are big enough here to focus some of your audience to the question.

And you probably have more audience than followers on the web, 4.000 followers probably means at least the same number of people multipled twice if not four times watching you without getting a badge and a hat for themselves.

Lewis Lovhaug said...

"Why the same doesn't apply to the trip to Washington ? Spoony and Angry Joe post something, why you didn't yet Lewis ?"

Because while I still have a job, I need to focus on getting episodes out and I've been spending the last several days working on Atop the Fourth Wall.

I know YOU have a problem with these episodes, but almost everyone else still likes them and wants to keep watching, so in the meantime, I'm going to keep working and producing and trying to fulfill promises that will be VERY difficult to do, especially in light of the MANY things I need to do over the next two months, so you'll forgive me if I don't drop everything and make a blog post beyond "Contact your representatives!"

If that's not good enough for you, well TOUGH.

Capt. Sake "Hancock" Mangusto said...

"I don't have problems with your storyline if you keep improve yourself, do it what you does best.

I have no problem with constructive criticism.

My problem, Sake, the one that I continue to have with you, is that you seem to spend an awful lot of time around here making posts that have no relevance to the topics of the posts. You have indeed slowed down with that, but you STILL DO IT. You make the same points over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and you can't just leave well enough alone.

You make multiple comments on the same post but they seem to lack much of a POINT to them. Most commenters are lucky to make one or two posts in a single day, usually only when I make a new post on the blog and then leave it at that. You, on the other hand, post multiple times a day on whatever whim you have and I am tired of reading through them. I have honestly never been frustrated by a poster as much as I have with you - I sincerely do not know if you are attempting to troll me, don't realize what you're doing, or if in fact you have some kind of social disorder that I am not aware of because we live in two different parts of the earth.

You seem to make demands of me, as you did with me wanting to make a blog post about SOPA even though I have been retweeting and commenting on it on twitter, a medium that will get through to more people than my blog. I explain that to you, but you are unsatisfied with my response and continue to make demands. AGAIN, I don't know if you're trolling or just don't realize that the matter is SETTLED. You are still making posts in the Captain America Comics #1 post about the continents issue, even though that has been SETTLED: we were taught different things, end of story - YOU are the only one keeping things going when there is no reason to keep things going.

I really, REEEEAAALLY have tried to be patient and kind, as I aspire to with all my fans, but damn it, Sake, YOU ARE GETTING ON MY NERVES. And this isn't even over something like you disliking an episode or the fact that you like Miller - I could give a crap about a difference of opinion. The problem is that you post and post and post add nothing to a conversation! I am begging, BEGGING you to take a step back and just NOT post unless you feel you have something worthwhile to contribute, be it a differing opinion to something I've expressed or just contributing to the conversation between others.

I don't want to dislike you, Sake - I don't want to dislike ANY of my fans - without you guys, I couldn't do this, but as I've said, seeing that you have YET ANOTHER post I need to approve (multiple times in the same day), it just makes me want to sigh and groan. So please, PLEEEAAASSEEEE consider what I have said.

Capt. Sake "Hancock" Mangusto said...

And hey, despite my previous records i am doing the best to improve my self too, and if i up set you at anytime at least i am one critic who dares show his own face and if you ask me anytime i can provide for you bigger pictures of my pretty face for targeting practice.

Most of the annoying people stay hidden behind anonymity and meaningless nicknames, i don't - ok i use a nickname but my real name is on my e-mail address and twitter account so figured out who i am is not really a big mistery after a few seconds.

I beg for the heavens to help you with your tasks and to made yourself able to stay on schedule, just because i criticize you that doesn't mean i don't like you or even don't envy you once in a while because after all you are making the sort of "Nerd" Walk of Life.

I could probably quotes Star Trek The Wrath of Khan in a clever, twisted, humorous way but i will not, not too much at best :

"__Lewis, be Atop the Fourth Wall is your first, best destiny; anything else is a waste of material. And this is also one of my favorite internet shows. I have been and always shall be among your audience".

But if you find something better to do after reach your thirties that's fine too.

End Credits Dire Straits - Walk Of Life

No, i don't want to get on your nerves;
And definitely Yes, let's settle this down and cease fire, i will take my previous statement about taking a vacation from here seriously and keep my self away for at least a month before coming back and comment about anything and even then be more reserved about my opinions.
I didn't notice i was getting this effect on you, honestly, and i'm really sorry. Please forgive my inconveniences and i hope this situation never repeat it self in the future.

I did - waaaaay back in the day I made a Comics in 5 Panels on Final Crisis. Admittedly, it's not anything in-depth, but that's because I have nothing in-depth to say about Final Crisis. It's just really, really weird.

'Pick up' is unfortunately an inaccurate term. XD I got mine off of ebay - there are several cosplay costume makers who create them. I would personally seek out the ones who have the jacket as a separate piece from the turtleneck undershirt, but that's just me.

Mostly because many people go with the redshirt rule primarily because of TOS. ^_~

When the Next generation rolled around, command and operations officers switched colors, thus security now wore gold. It's now goldshirts who are the ones who usually die all the time.

Even in the Original Series it wasn't always red shirts. Many times engineers and security got killed in specialty clothing that didn't have them in the usual suit. But yeah 80% of the body count was one of those two divisions.

Oh and something I forgot to include in my last comment.
This is about Lieutenant Monroe.
Isn't the Hazard team a hybrid of Engineering and Security. So if you want to get technical they have the greatest chance of dieing no matter the shirt color. Saving the Universe with that level of risk over your head is seriously something.

I know I'm pretty late on this, Linkara, but I re-watched the 2009 film the other day, and I wanted to point out that it does have Kirk say "I don't believe in no-win scenarios" when he's arguing with Spock about the Kobayashi Maru. In a way, it's even more meaningful there, as Spock then goes on to point out that Kirk's own father faced certain death years before, and wasn't able to cheat his way out of it. Still like the video, just trying to keep you honest, and it doesn't seem like anyone else has mentioned this yet, so...

It's damn eerie revisiting this review after seeing Into Darkness. :0

I'll just get the obvious out of the way:

1. Your reenactment of Spock's death carried more emotional weight than the 2013 movie.

2. Perhaps this explains why the ST:II comic came out in 2009; they wanted to prime the pump for an inevitable Khan-a-palooza.

3. And, which was truly worse: Kirk's "Khan!" in the comic or Spock's turn at it in the 2013 movie? O.o

(plus the many other unfortunate parallels of how they tried to capitalize on an a near-flawless movie; just some food for thought) :P
