The Culling, Part 4: Teen Titans #9

This story would have been much better if it had... you know... been good.

"Both, since Diana's personality and character are then incosistent with the kind of world she was brought up in. It would be like discovering that Jonathan and Martha Kent were actually cult leaders waiting for Clark's superpowers to develop so that they could worship him as a God - it's a change that's at odds with the kind of person she is and with the kind of people they're SUPPOSED to be."

People tend to remember their childhoods differently than the childhoods actually were, because they were children unaware of the world's complexities. And while they are influenced by their parents, they don't necessarily become copies of them. Otherwise cycles of abuse would be unbreakable.

I would think it better that Diana's morals are now derived from her own individual thoughts and sensitivity, as opposed to an inherently xenophobic and bigoted society posing as a candyland utopia.

It was DC Comics that first got me into comics to begin with. I remember as a kid reading issues of Superman and Batman comics while enjoying the wacky adventures that the two characters would get into. I also remember back when comics used to have some kind of balance.

You can have your share of grimdark but you can also have your share of fun. If a reader wanted a story thats all dark and moody they would have it, if a reader wants something fun and colorful then they have that also. Now it's like one big contest to see which character can out Batman, Batman when it comes to being dark and broody.

What in the hell was that?

You know, growing up I tended to mostly read DC comics. There weren't a lot of Marvel characters I could get behind and some I outright hated.

Yeah, I'm the opposite now. I'll admit, a lot of my love for Marvel is their Cinematic Universe, I read two comics now regularly, Secret Avengers (because yay lots of Hawkeye and Black Widow being bad ass) and Killjoys (a Dark Horse comic written by Gerard Way).

I want nothing to do with DC. Not their movie universe, not their comics and they took off the two DC animated shows I was watching. (yes, thank you DC for never letting us see the resolution to the arc with the Anti-monitor or the hints at getting to meet the 1st Green Lantern).

On the whole I'm so uncomfortable with so much that they do.

Maybe it's better Lian(sp) isn't alive, then she can't be mistreated.

A lot of people here arguing whether the darker approach to the DC universe is a good idea, about the portrayal of the Amazons, about Marvel vs DC and all I can think about is I miss Superman's old costume

There are two main ways that one can write a character far more intelligent than them. First of all you can write by comittee: each person contributing their thougths, covering each other's failings etc etc to create a character that is overall far more intelligent than them.

Secondly you could spend an extensive amount of time thinking about what courses of action your character should take. Lots of people would be far smarter if they took the time to think everything through. And since you know your story's universe inside and out, you can anticipate any troubles your character might have and see if there's a justifiable way for them to have planned ahead.

So Artemis was your favorite character in Young Justice ?

I know you don`t watch much TV, but I`m dying to know, what do you think about Young Justice ?

So, wait... The SupermanXWonder Woman thing was an editorial mandate because they think girls are only interested in twilight-esque romance. Not only is that stupid since SupermanXWonder Woman is not very similar to it other than supernatural(I'll cont Superman as one despite him being an alien and all) beings involved, but they made a feminist icon fall in love with a sexist series of shitty literature and waste of silver screen time as the inspiration?
...
I think I just died a little inside.

Aside from that the Lobo stuff turned out rather well, all things considered.
