Night of Atop the Fourth Wall LIVE!

What has Linkara reviewed at GatoCon?

NOTE: Due to the intense amount of editing required for last week's double feature AND the convention that I attended on February 16-17, I was unable to produce a regular episode. Regular episodes will resume next week with Marville #4 and all scheduled episodes will be pushed back a week.

Does that mean next Monday will be another double feature? Or is the schedule just pushed back one week now?

Imagine if Skate Man was a movie starring Reb Brown! Appropriate since his story begins in Vietnam, includes a death of a friend, and features all the rage we come to know and love from Reb. At least the movie would be far better than the comic!

Hope you'll get well soon. Even though you're pushing back future episodes to a week, it makes sense to schedule your Titans month for the entire month of March.

Looking forward to the live episode as soon as I'm done watching Ice Road Truckers.

Don't feel too bad about missing a week; you've been relentlessly professional the whole time I've been following the show. You're entitled to miss one every now and then.

Yeay, I am one more weak further from Marville #4!
I hope you'll get well soon, Linkara.

Look on the bright side, you can now designate this March as Teen Titans month.

At least it was well-drawn. I've seen you review worse comics on this page. Of course a roller-skating hero was hardly new (See Dazzler).

By any chance is there a Q and A panel you shot there?

this guy is like Kick-Ass
only less competent

No regular episode--but a live show? I'll take it! :) Wonder what the kindling is this time......

No theme song? Ah, that's fine--let's see, I'll use the 100th episode version. :)

(comic reveal) Oh, dear sweet Lord, no.

(after watching review) Yeah, that comic was preety bad. Kind of funny, though, in what a stupid concept it is.

feel better, Lewis!

Just finished the video and funny as always. I hope you get well soon.

Am I the only one who hears The Two Towers soundtrack when Paco'posse arrives towards the end (The blinding lights, the downward charge) ? It almost makes you forget how stupid that situation is.
I also loves how Skateman not only hands a grenade to his sidekick, but nonchalantly lobs it at the kid.

Irony can be pretty ironic at times. By that I mean I was actually sick this week (still am now) and to top it all off, I had to do a presentation while sick as well. Anyway, good liveshow and I am awaiting Marville #4 next week.

Lizard-Man said...

There doesn't sound like there are a lot of people there. Oh well.

C-Puff said...

Hey, as long as you have SOMETHING to post for me today Linkara :D it's a surprisingly dry day for internet content.

I am disappointed that there is no Electric Light Orchestra in this comic! How can we have a cheesy rollerskating story without it??

Sorry to hear you were sick. :( Hopefully this was filmed a while ago and you're better now.

"My foot your face." That's what happens when Nike Sponsors Bruce Lee.

I was afraid this was going to happen with this week. I understand though but still makes me sad.
To the comic my god that was a stupid idea for a comic. Oh god what was Neal Adams thinking. Mentioning the avengers made me think and Skate Man wouldn't look like most out of place member of the new book. That is how stupid the new over bloated team is.
I hope you feel better linkara. I had a real bad cold before, during, after MAGFest that was hard to get rid of. So I know what you are going through.

Jesse said...

Even though "Teen Titans Month" will be pushed back another week this was fun too.

Workloads, they suck when they screw up established schedules.

Rest up Linkara and get back to work when you're fully charged.

Drag, but it's probably for the best. Reading Marville that close to All-Star Batman would probably shatter even the strongest of psyches.

I am surprised that you did a live episode being sick. Kudos to you and your professionalism. the review was definitely Funny and i enjoyed it. I hope you feel better asap.

Good review. Hope you feel better, because just having this episode has made my terrible week much better.

The Popcorn Jockey said...

After watching this I think you and Marzgurl should crossover and review Stan Lee's Condor. A movie about a hero with cybernetic implants (I think) who fights crime while riding a skateboard.

P.s. I may have posted this twice so I apologize for a possible spammed comment

What the "ship" indeed...

So, Iron Fist had another superhero identity before.....it just sucked like eggs.

Get well soon, regardless of the video deadline. Remember, we can wait if you need more time to recover. Besides, I think your live episodes contain some of your best material anyways. And hey, at least this sort of turns March into an event month! Bright side to everything! Though I know that's little comfort when you're bedridden.

Anonymous said...

The episode was good, but I swear in the few times that you left the coughing in all I could think was "Uh oh. Linkara's next on Slenderman's list." It made things more funny because then I imagined Slenderman in the back row enjoying the review. Hope you feel better.

Anonymous said...

Looking at your schedule, pushing back everything actually kind of works out in your favor anyway since that means that March will be the month of the Teen Titans retrospective.

ToonLegion said...

Ah well a live episode is better then nothing. Take a rest dude, you've earned it ^_^.

Unknown said...

First, I gotta say that wherever you put your camera was genius. I liked that there was less audience feedback because, on camera, it tends to overpower the content. Also, turning off the lights helped make the whole thing feel like a regular episode rather than a live show.

Take it easy, and hope you feel better :)

Laura Case said...

I'm alright with the episode comming late. I still have tons of older episodes to catch up with x3
Hope you get better soon. ^.^

Ming said...

Wow, that was a terrible comic. A superhero based around roller skates? This is stupid, man.

Of course, there are worse comics than Skateman -- like Bimbos in Time, Youngblood, Superman at Earth's End, Amazons Attack, DC Countdown, Marville, Spider-Man One More Day, and Cry for Justice/Rise of Arsenal. And after hearing a comic called World's Worst Comics Award, someone needs to revive it, so they can feature all of the other comics that Linkara has had the displeasure of reviewing . . . and ones that he hasn't reviewed yet like Frank Miller's Holy Terror and Avengers: The Crossing.

DuelMark said...

If you think about it, this works. Next month can be your entire Titans retrospective.

What entertains me the most are your live shows. Whether it be an audience of 30 or 300, you bring an energy and showmanship that exhibits your history of live theater - not to mention your love of human interaction. I enjoy these most of all. They are very different from your recordings in many many many good ways. I hope to see more (i.e., you invited to many many more cons. If I had more pull, you'd have been invited to TFCon Toronto already) in the future. Good work!

BlondieSheep said...

Odd comic indeed. Makes me want to launch a whole line of parody sports comics. Dodgeball Boy! Field Hockey Girl! Ping Pong Punk! Could have some fun with that :P

Very glad you took the week off, especially if you're sick too. Everyone needs a break now and then, and I hope you get better soon. You'll need your strength for Marville!

SuzieQ said...

Hope you feel better soon, Linkara, and are able to get some well deserved rest!! :)

Unknown said...

I love the live eps, was nice to have such a small, cooperative group this time it seems with you still being under the weather.

Very much hope you're getting non-hallucinating rest. Pushing back Marville is SO totally fine. (and that was a really poor sentence, oops)

Like many others I think March being all Titans is going to be very cool, though I'm curious as heck as to what the Pachyderms comic could possibly be. Did the General from Jungle Book (or was he a Colonel) get his own spin-off?

As to the comic- I have rarely been so confused as to what the hell the purpose of the story was.

Unknown said...

Rest easy hero, and get well soon.

Blackcat325 said...

Very enjoyable live show, as always. But the comic... Even without the whole skate thing, it makes no sense from a storytelling perspective. I mean, I know you have to establish the villains as a genuine threat, but you also have to establish the hero as, well, a hero – you don't do that by having them beat the crap out of him in his first encounter, then having him need rescue (by children, even) the next time. Not saying a hero should never lose or need someone else to save him... just, not when you're actually introducing him!

I'm going to make one small nitpick, only because you veered into my professional area for a moment there. 14:l0 – I think you mean alternative medicine, not holistic. Holistic just means treating/addressing the whole person ie taking into account other factors (like psychological, social, etc) that can affect health, along with physical ones. I'd completely agree with your comment if you used the word alternative, and it only bugs me because so many people see “holistic” as a synonym of “alternative”, because its usually presented to the world as a nice thing that only alternative practitioners are capable of. I like to believe I practice within conventional (biomedical) medicine, in a holistic way...

... and I'll stop here before I completely lose the right to be perplexed by people who launch into a full-scale rant over one little word.

The thing that really impressed me about this show – coughing aside, I would not have realised you were ill at the time. It still has the energy, the character voices (and some of that sounded painful on a sore throat), everything. Kudos and hope you feel better soon.

Shanethefilmmaker said...

If rest isn't an option I suggest to combat the sore throat at least by mixing Halls with hot tea. The vapor alone from it is enough.

Power Pachyderms is okay, but where the heck is Romp Rangers! I want to see what's in that.

I hope one day to attend one of these shows. They're awesome! (This one was too, despite you still being sick)

TimeTravelerJessica said...

Sorry you're sick man. :) This was great and far more entertaining than I thought it would be judging by the comic itself.

On a slower week like this (I know your Live Shows don't bring in the revenue like a regular AT4W video does) you should consider promoting your older videos. I've been consistently watching your videos for at least a year and a half, and I had no idea you'd done a hilarious Let's Play of a Star Trek game. I dive to the early pages of your Blip and I'm still finding videos I've never seen before. Maybe you could post links and promote your older work on your Twitter and Tumblr, just to give you views a little boost.

Just a thought. Great live show and get better soon!

Cody James Ernest Cameron said...

Excellent work. For the record, personally, this counts as an episode, cause its not like you don't prepare for these. I hope one day to attend one of these shows.

Adam Burchfield said...

U know, This comic was made by Neal Adams? As in the guy who started turning Batman into the Dark Knight he was supposed to be in the Bronze Age? The guy who wrote the topical (and controversial) Green Lantern and Green Arrow series where speedy got addicted to Heroin...Kinda hard to believe he made this...

RK_Striker_JK_5 said...

Sorry you're not feeling well. Get better. Your health is more important than the schedule.

Shanethefilmmaker said...

I know your Skate Parkour Joke was meant to be funny and not taken seriously and it is, but I think that Idea is awesome for a video game. Imagine the commercial for mirror's edge but with skates instead of a POV running.

Cory of PRIVATE Corp said...

So... I'm probably not the only one on this, but I don't think skates aren't that bad of an idea for a hero. Granted as a superhero it's stupid, but with the proper set-up and better handling of the execution... it could work. And as one said, the skating parkour idea sounds awesome.

Then again, this comic made me think of Air Gear for an odd reason. Not sure, but it's the only thing I can think of when it comes to skating on roller-skates (or blades).

TheFlyingPhoton said...

So you were patient zero for this conflu?

Tantum Ergo 2 said...

Wow. That was pretty bad. Kind of reminded me of US-1 meets the Pumaman, except worse, since neither of them took themselves this seriously.

I mean, we've got the whole "beloved character dead as motivation" thing, and "revenge-driven hero" stuff (as well as a truly bizarre hero gimmick) from US-1, and yet, most of the heavy lifting is done by his sidekick (a-la Pumaman.)

I'm all for silly hero gimmicks, but there's being silly, and then there's making the hero look incompetent. Plus, it -really- doesn't work if you try to mix gruesome tragedy in with your silly gimmick in the first issue. It just leaves a bad taste in your mouth, like putting mustard on your ice cream.

Also, is it just me, or did the scene of Scateman holding his dead girlfriend look like a ripoff of the "dead Supergirl" cover from Crisis on Infinite Earths, except bad?
