Masterpiece Fanfic Theater

First and foremost, let's get this out of the way:

Yeah, I was a dumbass as a little kid. I don't mind the video, though - I was the one who gave it to Bennett to do. ^_~ However, I have gone and deleted the Web of Dimensions series from Fanfiction.net. Time to burn my plagiarizing bridges and move on with my material that I didn't steal wholesale (unless people still think I cribbed from 1984 with Revolution of the Mask. ^_~

By the by, I'm still grumbly that I couldn't produce a psychic Weedle in Pokemon Gold.

Just remember, kids: fanfiction is a great thing, especially if you want to start writing and get the creative juices flowing... just try to come up with your own ideas, mmkay? ‎

LMAO Linkara, that was funny. Nothing says "Torment" like being read something you really don't want other people to EVER find out about. Thats real torture IMO.

Cant wait to see more from you as usual.

...you watched Sailor Moon?

Ehh. Don't feel bad Linkara. I once mentally composed a Digimon Savers/Doctor Who crossover, which was mostly a rip-off of the "Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks" episode. And yes, I inserted myself into as well.

That stuff can happen to us all.

And for Bennett, NO ONE INSULTS DOCTOR WHO. NO ONE.

Ouch. That was embarrassing. Too bad you didn't bring your gun eh? Maybe you should make a deal with the dev- I think I will stop now.

Meh, I wrote a fanfiction when I was like 11-12? I have sketchy memory. It was a DBZ oneshot. It was supposedly okay and I have the urge to post it on Fanfiction.net just to see how well my younger self did. Enough of me, can't wait to see your Youngblood text-turn-video review.

Well, I guess we've all done an embarising fanfic when we were young. When I was 14, I did a fan-fic that crossed over Codename: Kids Next Door and Teen Titans. Yeah. ~_~

Atleast you get free and get to Punch him for dissing Doctor Who...

Doctor Who rules! Best and longest running Sci-fi ever!!!!

what video was it where you were talking about pokemon? =D

Yeah, I don't think anyone will hold it against you, and if they do, they're pretty vain. You were a little kid; I regret crap too that I did on the internet at the same time. At least you admit what you have done is not so great, and are moving on.

Hell, you could likely write a good fic now if you had the inclination, but I seriously doubt you would.

That being said, if you had to take from something, you chose well with Doctor Who. Timelords and world-hopping, time-warping adventure is always fun.

I was fortunate to be spared the creativity deprivation that usually spawns these bad fanfics, so while I can sympathize with you, Linkara, I sadly can't empathize with you. I HAVE, however, written some pretty bad and unoriginal original work in my past, so yeah.

Uh oh...(thinks about own pieces of crud on ff.net) gtg!!!!! (runs off to delete material before Bennet can find it)

Still, its okay that you wrote such drivel, we all have had horrid historys that we rather keep secret. Just as long as you didnt break one of the sacred rules of Sailor moon and made that Centari person a male senshi and used dub names (looks at the dub names and tries to keep in silent rage)

Anonymous said...

This was just hilarious (in a good way) XD I swear, I think I'll lock all the doors and windows so that way The Hunter wont get me .______.
And don't feel bad, I wrote worse things when I was a pre-teen (mostly involving some sort of Legend of Zelda, Eternal Darkness, and Drakengard cross over).
And in some ways I inserted myself via a made up character which I used for RPing.
But alas, that was another life.

Only female senshi is a stupid rule. *Crosses arms*

...And I didn't know the Japanese names.

I think many anime fans have things like that we want to hide. I'm not terribly ashamed to say that I used to write Gundam Wing fanfiction. Never tossed any of it up on FF.net, but I thought about it. The saddest thing about that writing is that I used them as assignments in school. My early ones were absolutely terrible, but I think some of my last ones weren't half bad. I did at least manage to stay within the boundaries of the universe, to a point.

Either way, I have to say I have read far worse fanfiction than what was presented here. At least you ripped off a good source. I've seen fanfiction where people rip-off stories from 90's comic books. Now that is what you call scary.

There aren't any more of these on the internets are there?

This was a hilarious video. It took awhile to get started, but the actual reading was fantastic.

And, as other posters have said, don't feel too bad. We've all written stories in our younger years that we wouldn't be too keen on having other people see. ;)

Premier Blah said...

Are you a fan of the Eighth Doctor audio dramas like me? It's how I became such a big fan of that incarnation.

Man I totally give you props for being able to laugh at yourself like that.

Ah, sailor moon...7 or 8 years ago I used to watch the shows ,and I recently downloaded some, only to realise how incredibly stupid and illogical everyone are in it...
Ho well :(.

Back to the fic, I too had the same idea long ago (with asterix and the smurfs...yeah....) so I'm totally not mocking you here :P.Too bad you deleted them, you know that fan like us would never laugh at you for that^^.

ohha ^^ well. we were all young at some point. But I'm down with you on Digimon. That show ruled !!!

Look on the bright side, your writing skills have definitely improved.

I've never written fanfics... I have written my own stories with tv, Video game charectors in them, But that was just to have somthing in place before i could compleate each charector.

For a few years now i've been writting a sci-fi story, Based around elemental powers (No not captain planet types) and offshoots of such elements, All this combined with the fact that the Main charector is the leader of a huge faction of warriors, Ages 13-40 whom have been trying to stop the dark overlord from takeing over. (Yes i know, Very original)
Also, the United Nations eventually gets involved.

Wye did i just write all that?

Carrie:Actually I meant the very first season ^^.I still like it, but watching it now makes me think about some stuff.Like, why do the monster can't realise that the girl with the same (unique) hairstyle is SM,why SM have to always does a useless speech before each fight and why the monster never OS her during it,and lot more...I know I'm not supposed to spot that, I just do now :(.

Anyway, back to the topic (poor Linkara have to read me critic SM each time^^)let just say that the worst crossover I ever spot was Harry Potter and BttF...

There was this one really bad Mario fanfic I wrote (it was either my first or second, can't remember which) but the good news was that I submitted it to a site that actually had some quality control, and the webmaster rejected it. It was bad for a lot of reasons; it was badly written, kills off almost all of the characters for no particular reason, and centers around an overpowered self-insertion character. (mind you, I did use self-insertion a lot even after that, but it was for comic effect rather than actually driving the story)

Anyway, I'm grateful to the guy who rejected it, as he saved me from quite a bit of embarrassment.

I do think fan fiction is a pretty good way to sharpen your writing skills. It definitely improved mine. That way, if you ever try to write original fiction, you'll be able to do it better. I wrote an original story, then stopped with original stories and wrote mostly fan fiction for a few years. Then I went back and thought up my own TV series and started writing scripts for it (which will probably never be made...maybe I could turn it into a comic), and the writing is tremendously better. I look at my original attempt at a novel and, while it had some actually quite funny jokes, the plot was awful and the characters were boring.

But hey, just remember this: If you look back at your old work and consider it to be awful, that's good, because it means you're improving.

You know I once wrote a story about a Thresher coming to life and running over some kids when I was 13.

amy said...

Hey, it could've been a lot worse. I go on fanfiction.net occasionally to post and there's some good stuff but you have to wade through a ton of trash.

LOL I think my worse fanfic (didn't post it because I knew it was garbage) was a slashfic with Magneto and Xavier. I know, I know, but they have such good chemistry! ^^

Oh, also, don't feel bad about watching Sailor Moon. My oldest brother used to watch Rainbow Brite.

Philosophista said...

HAHahaha... Pikachu is always fun to hear because in portuguese is the same as DICK!!! Also PAL! When Sage said the both hahahaha it was the name of Woody Woodpecker hahahaha

So... I also watched the three... Sailor Moon I watched because there's no more else to watch, and besides, passed before Saint Seiya and Yuyu Hakusho... So...

But of all the three I think Digimon was better, I mean, they certainly go from one point to another, is not like pokemon that still running the same shit over and over and over (pokemon is some kind of market holy grail, that fuck-os will be in earth untill after the apes took control over the planet)... And there was some kind of Darkness around Digimon, with the kids watching their pokemon dieying and starts to get nuts with some mental issues...

But yeah... The fuck is when I was 13, I start to write a story about some secret Leonardo da Vinci hide in his masterpieces to tell about a secret that he discovered in a secret society he participated. Yeah, Dan Brown stole my idea as well, but my "secret" was more cool, beign the church hiding a sleeping living God from the Cthulhu Mythos!!!

wow great acting linkara, great delivery too, video is funny as hell to. I actually never watch the sage cause i find it too painful. but this was awesome you both did a great job. very brave to that u'd allow him to read that too. so how old are you anyway? you said you were 8 when the first cd based consols were coming out that was around 94. but pokemon came out 95 and was big like 96 or 97 -01. anyway very funny video.

Damn straight Will! Plenty of horny boys watched Sailor Moon. In the same manner Princess Sally and Gadget launched a thousand furries, Serena and co. launched a thousand examples of anime schoolgirl fetishism! They were the hottest 14 year old schoolgirls this side of Saturday Morning... Oh god, they were the hottest "14 year old" schoolgirls this side of Saturday Morning... And I swore they were much older... 0_0 I hope that Chris Hansen isn't reading my comment...

Ah, the old Pokemon days. Hard to believe it's been so long. (Holy crap I feel old) Going back and looking at my old artwork makes me want to yank out my eyes, so I can only imagine how bad it is to hear an old story you'd rather forget.

Great video. It was a nice little walk down memory lane. I'm surprised Bennett didn't add insult to injury by swiping your hat as he read.

Zerry said...

Ahhh, memories...

Most of my self-insertion mass crossover fantasies stayed as fantasies, and even at a young age I knew they were just-for-fun goofing around.

The only one I ever dared put to paper was a massive, 40-page epic based on Dinotopia: http://www.dinotopia.com/ Aside from trying to write a wisecracking action adventure story in a wholly inappropriate setting, the trio of carnosaurs clearly based on Team Rocket (two of which were named Grim and Lock), and the antagonist who wasn't Beast Wars Megatron, honest, it wasn't that bad. It wasn't great by any stretch, but it was a key part in developing my creative streak. Even when I inserted myself as the hero, I told myself "screw it, I'll use me as a placeholder for now. The second draft'll develop him as his own character." Never did get that second draft done...

Nostalgia Flashbacks aside, major props to Linkara for willing to share such youthful indescretions. And Bennett? You are a grand master of the "Creepy Bastard" smile.

...YOU DELETED IT!? BOO, I say! BOO!

At least give me a chance to read the whole thing before you eradicate it from this universe (and subsequent other parallel universes)...

Okay, Sailor Moon and Digimon sometimes put moral values on their powers.
But in the name of all that's unholy, why would pure evil interfere with Pokemon? Aren't some of them and their trainers nasty people?
Sure, this story has already been ripped apart pretty good but that point just bothered me for some reason.
And Evil makes them tired? Why? Why not angry and hateful? Or sick if their inner goodness is nauseated? Okay, backing off the evil for real this time.
I do almost want to read this now, though. It's like a train wreck, where you slow down to try and see all the damage.

Roxie said...

Awww =[. Don't feel too bad Linkara, your fanfiction wasn't as bad as some of the other crap on that site. I mean, all of us at a point of our lives have posted a terrible, TERRIBLE piece of fiction up there when we were young that we hope nobody EVER uncovers...EVER.

Hell, I remember doing a Wrestling/Sailor Moon crossover. Don't ask me how I did it, I just DID and reading over it now I can see what a true dumbass I was when I was a kid. xD

Anyways, you proved that you have more guts than me and about 95% of the FF.net authors have by digging that up and laughing at yourself.

Kudos, Linkara =]

PS. Don't beat yourself up over watching Sailor Moon, my brother used to obsess over it as well.

I SO wish I could have read this in its entirety. XD

But I can see why you got rid of it. XP

I know this comment is incredibly late, but I just saw this video again after seeing the lovely Iron Liz's Sailor Moon RPG review (which btw was awesome ^_^.) I can't help but wonder, though, if she's aware of her beau's past illustrious career in Sailor Moon fan fiction. ;-)

Oh come on everyone watched Sailor Moon when they were young. don't be ashamed

Don't feel bad Linkara. I was planning to make fanfiction that included. 1. Transformers G1 Season 1 & 2 character have a Gundam related plot. villains, guy's in between, and Rorschach being a redeemable hero team. a multiverse hopping lizard Kamen rider fighting evil. and a Gurren lagann theme version of Kickassia with you being Viral.

Sijo said...

There is nothing wrong with *any* kind of fanfiction. The point many people miss is that they're written largely to please *their authors*; and posting them online does NOT mean that they have to meet any standard of quality, only that the author wants to see it posted. Seriously, it's like booing a kid playing basketball in public because he's far from a Star Player. Now, IF your intention *IS* to entertain other people, then yes, you should do your best to write it well. But it's not obligatory. And even what we oh-so-sophisticated readers may find terrible could be just what other people might enjoy. Unlike the comics Linkara criticizes, nobody pays for fanfiction. You don't like it, don't read it (or better yet, just look for the kind you'd actually enjoy. There are some VERY GOOD fanfics out there.)

Cryptix said...

That was awesome. It's always great when people can laugh at themselves.

Yup, jumping on the 'I did it too' bandwagon. Fortunately, I didn't know about FFnet and didn't have a scanner for the longest time, so the only piece of badfic/badart that ever made it online was a single chapter that went into my Gaia journal.

I was pretty crazy about the OCs and self-inserts. I think I created an entire new race (nymphs) for LoTR, and I had a Yu-Gi-Oh character who not only had an ancient egyptian but also a made-up goddess inhabiting her body. And let's just completely forget my Megaman webcomic that was a blatant Bob & George ripoff with not one but two OCs AND a self-insert.

At least you didn't attempt to write mature fanfic at 13. THAT is where the scary stuff happens.

Kids are dumb. Luckily, most of us learn from these mistakes.

Ming said...

Dude, that was hilarious. I still can't believe you actually wrote a crossover fanfic featuring characters from Sailor Moon, Pokemon, and Digimon that essentially rips off Doctor Who Sirens of Time, complete with you as a God Mode character along the lines of the Doctor or the Monitor.

I wonder if Bennett will find your other fanfics for Masterpiece Theater.

That part where you beat up Bennett the Sage for mocking Doctor Who -- priceless. No one mocks one of the greatest sci-fi TV series ever with impunity.

There are actually good fanfics out there -- like the fanfic novelization of Command and Conquer Tiberium Wars (much better than the actual inept novel in the stores) or the Ultimate Power Rangers mythos or even the Kickassia novelization.

I've actually written fan works (both in prose and script style format) but I've haven't decided on posting any of them on the web.

Anonymous said...

Wow you were certainly an ambitious writer, trying to cross over pokemon and digimon(which admittedly I could see happening in the off chance they were ever bought by the same company) with Sailor moon (which is where the idea starts to get ludicrous). Thing is from what I seen this could have been an interesting read if you dumped the script format and were a generally better writer back then. It be interesting to see how with your new founded experience you would write it today, but like you said your off fanfiction for good.

Anonymous said...

I know how you feel, when I was ten or eleven I wrote some gender swapped fanfics of Animaniacs and Phineas and Ferb that I'm personally ashamed of. I just hope NO ONE ever finds them!!!!!
