Not the dreaded Finger Trap! How can Linkara possibly escape from that?

So, who was that assistant to Mr. Prick?

Really liking the direction that this is taking. Question: I know this is 8 parts. Will the other parts be released over the next several days?

Guess you're copying Brad's style of posting descriptions to these parts. His was Mr. Mom, yours was Fantastic Four!

Like I said in Brad's post, I think I'll sit this one out until September because I imagine that future parts will run as long as the first part. Still, I like what you guys do in the anniversary videos.

Yep! He told me he did it because you can go to any site to watch the movie, but you go to his site you get something extra. I liked that idea, so enjoy my descriptions based on comics. ^_^

So, what was Linkara's opinions on the design and lighting capability of the lamp from Amityville Horror 4 again?

Hey Linkara, are you coming to RI Fomic Con in November? Freaking JASON DAVID FRANK is going to be there, as well as Walter Jones and David Yost. It would also make a great birthday present!

I saw your tweet as to the line that was cut, was just curious what that reason was? I would have tweeted but don't have twitter.

"I saw your tweet as to the line that was cut, was just curious what that reason was? I would have tweeted but don't have twitter."

Doug will usually cut stuff for pacing reasons or because he didn't like the line or didn't think it was important or stuff like that. It's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, though.

Really it was just me walking out of my office and saying, "Okay, Nimue is defragging her hard drive and everyone else is touring with Harvey. I've got the night to myself!"

Though I already commented on TGWTG but I just wanted to let you know how much I loved your part!

The conversation with paw was hilarious! Finally seeing Mechakara back was such a treat. even though I loved Vise and the Entity, he'll always be my fav of your villains.

Now, I can't help but wonder, does the events in this move tie into you becoming evil in your current arc?

That was fun. Runtime has me wondering just how long Boldly Flee is going to be.

I had a serious 'oh crap' moment when I realized who was on the other side of your door. I find myself wondering what sort of a mess he's going to make of things.

Kinda surprised that you weren't part of the space exploration team since you and Joe are the only two reviewers to have spaceships.

Production values keep increasing. Love the addition of the Dalek on the book shelf. Nice to see Mechakara back as well. But does this mean you as Linkara are going to be side lined for the adventure while your Alts are involved?

How many people have pointed out that "The Hole" is the collective plot hole of all the crossing continuities of channel awesome?

So the missing line was establishing you were alone that got established well enough by no one else being there.

Coincidence 52 is in my captcha. Anyone have a deck of cards handy?

I'm sorry, but is the reason why Mechakara is alive explained in the movie. Or is it one of those, "It's magic, we don't have to explain it" things.

Lewis Lovhaug said...

"I'm sorry, but is the reason why Mechakara is alive explained in the movie. Or is it one of those, "It's magic, we don't have to explain it" things."

It's kind of that, actually. It's not explained in the movie since we don't want to confuse newcomers with all the baggage of Mechakara's backstory, hence why it was condensed down to "my psychotic robot double" instead of "He's my robot, except from a parallel universe where robots took over the world and then he came to this dimension after a crisis in Hypertime and he looks like me because he thought my flesh would allow him to utilize my magic gun. After I destroyed him once, a multi-dimensional conqueror resurrected him to work on defeating me, but I destroyed him again with a giant robot."

Anyway, while there is no explanation in the movie, there IS an explanation. You'll recall that the "His Blue Soul" arc featured what Linkara THOUGHT was Mechakara. In the Fantastic Four #1 review, he speculated that Mechakara, using the magic coin, could have somehow survived and regenerated his form after the battle. That's what I'm going with as how he came back, though it took time for him to fully regenerate, and in that time he acquired Malachite's Hand (as seen as the stinger on the Suburban Knights DVD).

I'm really digging the Movie so far, a lot of laugh out loud moments and oh shit ones like Mechakara. Though for the life of me that sound effect where Ma-Ti is talking from Spoony's mind in the computer sounds so damn familiar. Is that sound effect from Flight of the Navigator?

Lord Who Know You said...

Well, it seems like a decent enough start. Good, suspenseful, full of cool story threads and respecting of past continuity.

I do have small nitpicks:

-why is the proper plot not started until part 2? In both "Kickassia" and "Suburban Knights", the plot proper started in part 1.

-just how many uses DOES that damn magic coin have? It can make people grow to giant size, it can turn Linkara into the Green Mighty Morphin Power Ranger, and now it can resurrect Mechakara. Lewis, does that coin have an established set of powers, or is it a deus ex machina that you pull out whenever you need something done?

-is this video gonna adress the whole "Linkara turning evil" thing?

-or how about the ending of Doug's "Scooby Doo" review, with Doug all depressed about his life and his job, and him playing poker with the Ghost of Christmas Future and 80s Dan and Dino Rob...is this special gonna adress that?

-how does this fit into Spoony's continuity, anyway? I hate to drag out real-world issues into this, but this possibly can't happen before the Ultima 9 review. But, in the course of the Ultima 9 review, That Guy With the Glasses turned their backs on Spoony and Spoony feels bitter about it in that review. Yet here, he is buddy-buddy with the That Guy With the Glasses guys again. How does that work, continuity-wise?

-why is that Todd-Lupa-Lindsay love triangle here? First of all, the proper love triangle is Doug-Lindsay-Doug's Wife (no idea what her name is). Second of all, what does this add to the story? Seriously, it has nothing to do with the wormhole or the death of Ma-Ti or Terl's revenge or the S.O.P.A. guy, so why is it here?

-is the guy who appeared in Doug's room the Last Angry Geek, or is he Cloak # 1? In your show, Cloak #1 and Last Angry Geek are two different people, but here Doug acts as if they are one and the same. What gives?

-when Terl wanted to pit congress against Doug, why didn't he use the whole Mara Wilson thing to his advantage? Or the Tommy Wisseau thing, for that matter?

-where were 90s Kid, Harvey Finevoice, Bozo, Holo-Kara and Doctor Linksano when Mechakara attacked? Why didn't they protect Linkara?

-finally, why is Mechakara such a threat to Linkara? Linkara already kicked his ass twice already. Why would he be threatened by him in any way? Don't you think that, after all the shit he's been through, beating Mechakara a third time would be a piece of cake?

Lewis Lovhaug said...

"-why is the proper plot not started until part 2? In both "Kickassia" and "Suburban Knights", the plot proper started in part 1."

This movie is different and is paced differently.

"-just how many uses DOES that damn magic coin have? It can make people grow to giant size, it can turn Linkara into the Green Mighty Morphin Power Ranger, and now it can resurrect Mechakara. Lewis, does that coin have an established set of powers, or is it a deus ex machina that you pull out whenever you need something done?"

I really do need to chart out its abilities at some point...

"-is this video gonna adress the whole "Linkara turning evil" thing?"

As I have stated MANY times, the events of "To Boldly Flee" take place BEFORE the current storyline as far as my show's continuity is concerned.

"-how does this fit into Spoony's continuity, anyway? I hate to drag out real-world issues into this, but this possibly can't happen before the Ultima 9 review. But, in the course of the Ultima 9 review, That Guy With the Glasses turned their backs on Spoony and Spoony feels bitter about it in that review. Yet here, he is buddy-buddy with the That Guy With the Glasses guys again. How does that work, continuity-wise?"

You'd have to ask him, assuming he cares.

"-why is that Todd-Lupa-Lindsay love triangle here? First of all, the proper love triangle is Doug-Lindsay-Doug's Wife (no idea what her name is). Second of all, what does this add to the story?"

...What? No, no seriously, WHAT? The Todd-Lupa-Chick triangle has been a prominent feature in several of their videos. The idea of the Nostalgia Critic and Nostalgia Chick dating was raised in one, count 'em ONE video where they filmed a date between them and it didn't go well. Doug's real world wife has NOTHING to do with his videos and Doug has stated that he doesn't consider the Nostalgia Critic character married. There is no triangle there WHATSOEVER. Where the hell did you pull that from?

"Seriously, it has nothing to do with the wormhole or the death of Ma-Ti or Terl's revenge or the S.O.P.A. guy, so why is it here?"

Keep watching.

"-is the guy who appeared in Doug's room the Last Angry Geek, or is he Cloak # 1? In your show, Cloak #1 and Last Angry Geek are two different people, but here Doug acts as if they are one and the same. What gives?"

See: Part 2.

"-when Terl wanted to pit congress against Doug, why didn't he use the whole Mara Wilson thing to his advantage? Or the Tommy Wisseau thing, for that matter?"

This was written and filmed before the Mara Wilson stuff happened.

"-where were 90s Kid, Harvey Finevoice, Bozo, Holo-Kara and Doctor Linksano when Mechakara attacked? Why didn't they protect Linkara?"

As I stated a few comments above, I adlibbed dialogue about their absence, but Doug cut it out. Also, his name is Boffo, not Bozo.

"-finally, why is Mechakara such a threat to Linkara? Linkara already kicked his ass twice already. Why would he be threatened by him in any way? Don't you think that, after all the shit he's been through, beating Mechakara a third time would be a piece of cake?"

See: Part 3.

Ok Louis (or Linkara if you prefer), I never really differ away from Erod, CR, Doug, Lindsey, Film Brain, Todd, and sometimes your videos (Sorry, I'm not really a comic book reader, but I love Miller Time). But I do have one question. Is this movie trying to tie together the stories of Kickassia and Suburban Knights? I'm just wondering. This was awesome! Your segment really had me on the edge of my seat, Noah's segment had me actually curious what would happen next, and I liked Doug's discussion with Last Angry Geek. As a casual viewer, I am curious as to what Meccacara is, but I'm gonna watch your videos now.

Yep, it's tying together Kickassia and Suburban Knights. ^_^

As for Mechakara, he was my very first opponent in the storyline of the show. If you don't want to try to find EVERY video he's been in (and the other elements of the plot, like my spaceship) or want to know which ones to look to, here's a useful Tumblr that has details of every episode that involves the plot:

Oh my god this was the greatest part of a movie i´ve ever seen in my life.

No seriously this part was awesome. I loved Spoony´s parts. Great to see Mechakara back it is the best villain created by you Linkara. I still think there should be a Dr. Insano Storyline at some point however i know that this would be diffcult for various reasons.

I also now understand why this is probably the last anniversary movie since this movie seems to be really expensive (for independent films) and time consuming.

I really look forward to part 2

Jarkes said...

See, I think what people are trying to figure out is if events of this anniversary special have anything to do with you turning evil in your current storyline. We GET that this is before the current storyline, but that wouldn't necessarily mean that this special's events couldn't have affected it.

Okay, first thing I was expecting was that by the end of the first episode, everyone would be at NC's place and be roped into this. It's how it went the last two times.

But wow, you guys stepped it up.
Story is far better so far than Kickassia ever was, and the plothooks put in the first episode were way better then the ones in the first half of Suburban Knights.

And I loved both of those movies/series. Don't get me wrong, but the whole setting is awesome.
From the way the characters are introduced seperately instead of the costumed rolecall. The fact that several groups are allready reading the signs, just not yet linking them.

AWESOME!!!

Peace

*Goes back to spamming f5 until next episode*

The funniest thing was the lamp reviewer joke. It's hilarious to me as a joke and on a meta level, because by the time I see it here, it's a well-established inside joke..

You've referenced a line several times that nobody but you guys have heard, and by the time I heard it, it was already a running gag.

That just tickles my wherever I like to be tickled.

Heh, finger trap. The deadliest weapon of all man kind.

I'm honestly glad that we get most of the cast members in the first episode. (This feels mini-series-y, not movie anymore) I also like that it isn't one lump of a plot, or worse yet, another Critic crazy idea dragging everyone together. I'm sure it will happen, but it didn't start that way at least.

Also, I had a lot of fun watching it. Which of course matters more than anything else.

So linkara I have a question. You see my computer is just not working at all at the moment so my iPhone is my only way of watching videos. It works fine but the only probmlem is the ads won't play and nothing I seem to do will get them to play. Does the affect the money that you and other producers make off the content?

Can't say for certain. I'm inclined to say it does, but that just means that when you get your computer up and running again, you need to watch a whole bunch more videos to compensate. ^_~

After seeing all the continuity questions I figure I might as well ask this even though I thought it better not doing so earlier.

In this movie will you at least do something to show how you might be turning evil? Its not really apparent in either your past reviews nor the gun slinger travel logs as of yet.

Closest I can find is the evil design on the pollo that Vyce ended up taking over through Mechakara's hand.

And I have watched every review at least 3 times so far. Going to watch through them all again maybe even going back to the earlier written reviews again for the second time when I don't have so much on my plate.

The Exiled One said...

"So, who was that assistant to Mr. Prick?"

Orlando. He's the guy who played Malachite AND the guardian angel of Nostalgia Critic.

It's nice to have him again play a villanous role in an Anniversary Special (although his role here is clearly more comedic than the one in "Suburban Knights").

"Not the dreaded Finger Trap! How can Linkara possibly escape from that?"

a)He uses his magic coin to grow to giant size and bust out of there, then he shrinks back to normal size.

b)He turns into the Green Mighty Morphin Ranger/White Zeo Ranger/Red Turno Ranger and smashes/blasts his way out

c) He blasts his way out with his Magic Gun.

d)He pulls out his Pokeball and has Pyramid Head smash their way out.

e)He undoes the Finger Trap with his Sonic Screwdriver.

f)Boffo/90s Kid/Harvey Finevoice/Snowflame/Pollo/Iron Liz shows up and frees Linkara.

"Kinda surprised that you weren't part of the space exploration team since you and Joe are the only two reviewers to have spaceships."

Kinda busy with the whole "getting his ass kicked by Mechakara who somehow came back to life and stole the Power Glove containing the Gem of Exxodia" subplot, don't you think?

"I had a serious 'oh crap' moment when I realized who was on the other side of your door. I find myself wondering what sort of a mess he's going to make of things."

Now that he has the Power Glove contaning the Gem of Exxodia, which grants him unlimited power, we are in deep shit.

"How many people have pointed out that "The Hole" is the collective plot hole of all the crossing continuities of channel awesome?"

So, "The Hole" is a reference to "The Snarl" from "The Order of the Stick"? Wow...I never thought I'd see the day when a That Guy With the Glasses production references "The Order of the Stick".

"Anyway, while there is no explanation in the movie, there IS an explanation.
"

I'm going with "The Executor and/or one his agents (maybe Terl, maybe Zod) rebuilt Mechakara." It's a much simpler explanation and makes a lot more sense.

"I'm honestly glad that we get most of the cast members in the first episode."

It's refreshing to see this sentiment echoed by most here (including me) after reading all the comments made by the whiny crybabies at Brad's site. They are all like "WAAAA, WHY ARE ALL THESE DIFFERENT REVIEWERS HERE? I DON'T WANNA OTHER REVIEWERS, I WANT BRAD!". It's annoying as fuck.

"but Lindsay doesnt have a character (but in this universe she is stalking Todd so i guess is not really on reality) but the talk with LAG (who is not a character) who points lot of questions, and a lot stuff more."

The lines between "character" and "real self" are often blurred in this site, to the point that you really can't tell sometimes. People keep claiming that the Nostalgia Critic is just a character, but he acts the exact same way in his v-logs and uses the show to voice his honest opinion. Linkara is likewise honest in his reviews and doesn't "act" in them, yet he keeps referring to himself as "Linkara the character". And don't get me started on people like Marzgurl or Distressed Watcher, which gimmicks revolve around the fact that they DON'T have "characters". It's really a matter of personal perception vs what the actual reviewers tell us.

Ben Pounds said...

@The other commenters: why do people care about continuity here anyway? So long as the characters act plausibly like themselves it shouldn't matter. To quote a show both Lewis and I like "you should really just relax." To quote someone Lewis and I both hate, for different reasons, "continuity is the hobgoblin of small minds." Granted said person who said the last thing thinks all women above a certain age are whores or else Irish bartenders who beat people up, and there is a game called "Lords of Warcraft," but even he can be right sometimes. I actually like things that contradict themselves (Futurama has done that multiple times with regard to world building) so long as they're remaining true to the characters.

I'm surprised no one here has pointed out the similarity to "Dickless" Walter Peck when it comes to the Regulator Lame R. Prick?

Why do people keep shortening Terrell?

Also on watching a second time for spellings Spoony made an error Psyclo not psyclone...

I'm sorry, but I 'm gonna tell Ben Pounds to get stuffed.

This is a culmination of all the videos from all reviewers, tied over in a single continiuity. It's SUPPOSED to have a strong continuity. It's NOT supposed to be non-canon.

Most of us DON'T like continuity being ignored, and we wish past contuinity to be acknowledged. Especially since the shows themselves DO have a sense of contunity. It's part of that whole "world building" thing: this isn't just a gag series like "Futurama", they are trying to build a whole universe here.

Linkara: please tell me Ben Pund is full of shit and that this special will respect past contunity.

I imagine the the killings of comic book people is going to have some significance. It doesn't seem like Mechakara's thing to use a gun, and if he killed those other people, it doesn't make sense that he leaves Linkara alive. Regardless of the reason for his return, it's just rather cool to see Mechakara again.

Also, I like picking up Brad's idea of the funny plot descriptions. I'll be visitng both your sites each time a new part of the movie is posted.

Mechakara is a servant of the Executor. He is killing comic book people to fulfill the Executor's plans.

As to what those plans are...we'll just have to keep watching.

I love the obscure Flight Of The Navigator reference, with pulling the starcharts from Spoony's brain.

Daniel Stack - I noticed it was Walter Peck (couldn't remember the name, THANK you!) - but wouldn't have bothered mentioning it if you hadn't asked why nobody mentioned it.
It's along the lines of mentioning that the opening parodied Star Trek III: The Search For Spock.

Jarkes said...

So, was the "security footage" of Ma-Ti transferring his character into Spoony a deleted scene from Suburban Knights, or was it filmed specifically for this?

Will Staples said...

With the ad lib about Nimue defragging cut, I think Linkara getting replaced by Mechakara is still a pretty good justification for why everyone doesn't just use his spaceship.

CaptainCalvinCat said...

@ Nick and Movie Brat - I think, the stuff about Mechakara killing other Comic-Book-"nerds" is actually a reference to the Terminator-Movie, where Ahnuld went around and killed each and every Sarah Connor, he could find.

So, maybe, like I already said, Mechakara is influenced by the Plot-Hole, so he could not really be sure, which one of those comic-book-nerds is Linkara (like the Terminator in the first movie), or Linkara is later going to be a leader of the resistance agains that sopa-clone, which would make those other comic-book-nerds his lieutenants...

So both is possible. ^^

It looks like this year's aniversary special is a more "serious" Sci-Fi crossover special. I'm just catching up with Boldly flee since I've been putting it off watching it. That must be one hell of a Chinese Finger trap. I'm looking forward to view more in the series. Why didn't Linkara recognize the mechanical sound of Mecharara's voice?. I'm thinking that as far as Atop the 4th Wall goes, Lord Vyce is still conquering all that he sees.
