Have not finished watching it yet, but that scene with Mechakara. The first one. ...Jesus. You caught me off guard there, although I was confused why you were scowling in previous shots, I suppose that's why.

So, I'm guessing the real Linkara will use Comicron-1 to catch up to the rest of the crew?

Also, who played Mr. Prick? And speaking of him, is he really dead?

So...... the receiver for the Critic's teleportation device is in your hat and jacket?

Also, who was the one wearing the Derpy Hooves shirt?

hey linkara,

i basically only know you from crossovers with NC and Spoony but I think you're solid at what you're doing.

even though I really dig Insano, i have to say the best thing in this part is Mechakara's line. While it's not 100% perfectly executed (your eye movement) I think it's really well done.

Also, your surprised reaction afterwards is just flawless.

Just wanted to say that because I've read alot of people complaining about the acting in those collaborations. For a bunch of non-professionals most of you are doing a very solid job. And even the worse one's have gotten better. You can really tell.

It's a good thing they cut away when they did, because right when Mickey grabbed me and started shaking me I burst out laughing like crazy. XD

I know from the first part that your joke synopses are derived from comic book plots, but what's this one referring to? I don't read that many comic books, so this one went over my head.

I really like this part, and I think you did a good job as Mechakara. Keep up the good work!

Mechakara was awesome. I loved how incredibly obvious it was yet nobody got it-- but then again, I guess that's the point (Plot hole). It's like when Team Rocket dresses up in Pokemon. XD

That would be 8-Bit Mickey, the biggest My Little Pony fan in the universe. XD

Dang, Spoony has more screen time than Peter Sellers in Dr. Strangelove. (That's not a bad thing, by the way.)

Can't wait to see what Mechakara has in store for the others...

Really, REALLY Liked part 2. Some awesome moments and quite possibly the best jokes and moments in the entire anniversary specials.

Nut, and I really hate to be one of those dicks who treat a nitpick as a fundamental flaw but just a couple of things that I can't help but groan at.

Possible the biggest one... I understand parodying, I understand homaging but I don't get directly copying Ghostbusters. That was pretty shameful.

Secondly... As much as I enjoyed the running gags to begin with. The Lupa Todd Chick triangle is a dead horse now. They've milked it for all it's worth just let it be. I know they wanted to bring some continuity but that one is so overdone.

I'll be positive to offset negativity.

1: Loved seeing channel awesome assemble. I've seen then team up before but I kinda geeked out here. Geeked out like I did for The Avengers earlier this year.

2: I really like the music. Is the choral/orchestral a license free track or was it specially composed specially.

3: I like how my curiosity is being fed. Is normal Linkara going to show up again or will he be arrested having been mistaken for Mechakara? What's gonna happen to spoony? What will Kneeeeeeeeeeeel do to mix things up? Will Malchite make a return to his power?

4: This was VERY funny. The jokes in this one were just awesome. Some of there best comedic writing here.

5: Spoony was on top form here. Three roles extremely well played.

Also is or was "SPOILER ALERT!" Lame R Prick played by the same guy who played Bill from Suburban Knights?

This was a BIG improvement over the first part! I was laughing and enjoying it a whole lot more.

I'm guessing the reason why none of the other characters catch onto it being Mechakara is probably because they don't know about him. And I wouldn't expect Dr. Insano to bother telling them. I like the added touch of having Mechakara wearing a different color flannel than Linkara normally wears. I caught that in the trailers, and wondered about the wardrobe change. Makes sense. The black gloves have always been a nice touch for the character, and I like the scowl you put on for the role. Good acting job!

I like that we're starting to get a little more of everyone involved. Give everyone a moment to call their own. I also think Noah's done an excellent job with all three characters. Nice use of the "Plot Hole" to explain the "Kickassia" contradiction of Spoony & Insano being the same person then but not now.

You and Brad both stumped me with your joke plot descriptions this time.

Will Staples said...

"Also, who played Mr. Prick?"

I think it was Jim Troken? The guy who played the surfer dude who got blown up by Malachite in the opening scene of "Suburban Knights".

I'm probably wrong, but for some reason I'm thinking this plot description is for Starman. at least, Starman right after Zero Hour.

Also, awesome. Really really awesome.

Somehow I expected Mechakara to at least try to hide who he really is from everybody else. Still trying to figure out what he`s up to, and to a lesser degree how he came back in the first place.

Nice. Shorter than part one (I think?) but better storywise. Love how the story goes from serious to looney and back without warning (*Plot Hole? snort!*) and I don't usually like that!

The only thing I'd wish for is a list of who's playing who, though I suppose that comes at the end (I don't recognize everybody. Plus my memory sucks.)

Thanks for posting it. Hope to see more soon! :)

Eric Ratcliffe said...

Yeah, the quote is definitely James Robinson Starman (which is amazing)

Really curious to find out just how real Linkara escapes and joins the crew (I'm assuming he does, I remember one of the trailers has him dressed in his Trek gear)

Loved the callback to the car bit from Suburban Knights. Really can't wait to see where things go from here!

Plothole is really taking effect. If anyone should recognise Mechakara it should be Insano. After all he had been researching Mechakara for some time.

But that is kind of the beauty of this story I'm beginning to think.
You can retcon a lot and simply blame it on the Plothole.

Hats of to all of you. Now I have to start watching my back when I joke around with my friends about me being rather tall, you never know when Mickey will strike...

Peace

Lord You Know Who said...

Woa. so many Ghostbusters references at the beginning. I was ready to see Slimer and Janine pop up. Too bad none of them said "I wouldn't do that if I were you" to Agent Prick's assistant.

So, if I'm reading this right, let's list out all the inconsistencies that were created after the Plot Hole opened up:

-the fact that people keep repeating "there is no continity, there is only Insano", even though Insano DOES have a backstory

-the fact that Doug was banished to a pencil sharperner at the end of the "Child's Play" review, but it was Phelous who was banished to the pencil sharperner at the beginning of the "Child's Play 2" review

-the fact that the Magic Coin acted like the Dragonzord Power Coin even though it never showed this ability before

-the inconsistency wether Cloak #1 is a separate character or just the Last Angry Geek in disguise

-the fact that Doug adressed the fuck-ups he made in Disneycember in his "Top 11 Fuck-Ups part 3", even though that whole "it's not Doug, it's his character" is in effect

-the fact that Casper is around at all even though Doug melted it at the end of the "Casper" review

-Phelous always dying and coming back to life

-Doug dying and always coming back to life

-the fact that Doctor C. Tease acts all slutty in the video that introduced, but acts like a regular mad scientist in every other apperance

-the whole continuity clusterfuck that is caused by trying to fit this special in the same continuity as Spoony's "Ultima 9" review

-the existance of Dolorem, which just raises a shitload of questions

Also, there's a perfectly good reason why Insano exists both as a separate character and as one of Spoony's saplit personalitiues: there are actually two Insanos. One is Spoony's split personality. The other, who exists as a separate character, is Clone Insano, who was created in the "Clones of Bruce Lee" review. Any instances of Spoony talking to Insano before that review were supposed to be seen from Spoony's point of view, and in reality Spoony was adressing thin air before that review.

And again, some minor nitpicks:

-why did the teleporter beam Mechakara instead of Linkara?

-why would the reviewers hesiatate to help Doug this time? The last two time, it made sense, because Doug was trying to embark them on selfish quests.

Here, the fate of the entire Earth AND the life of Spoony are on the bslance, so hesiatating to help Doug, even for a moment, is oiut of character for them. Doing the whole "we don't want to help you" when their friend AND their world are about to be doomed makes them seem more evil, nasty and douchy than they already are.

They just wouldn't do this, they would agree to help Doug without any hesitation whatsoever.

-too much "Ghostbusters" stuff in the beginning.

-the cameos were totally wasted. They never did anything even remotely funny with it. It's even more depressing because the "Ghostbusters" scene they were refrerencing was actually a lot funnier than their version. I'm sorry, but it's just two or three reviewers showing up with nothing funny happening to them. You didn't even imitate the "zombie as a taxi driver" gag even though one of the cosmic souls passed a taxi!

-in the end, Agent Prick had no real purpose in the story other than free the cosmic souls and imitate Walter Peck, so he was a complete waste of a character.

Still, this part is...OK, but not as good as part 1. I'll see where this is going before giving a full opinion.

Marzgurl is Linkara's best friend, so she of all people should know who Mechakara is. But then again, I guess even she wasn't thinking straight, what with the "Spoony and the Earth are both in mortal danger" thing.

Besides, the last time we saw Mechakara, Linkara blew him up with Neutro, so Marzgurl has no reason to think that Mechakara is back.

"Nice use of the "Plot Hole" to explain the "Kickassia" contradiction of Spoony & Insano being the same person then but not now."

What contradiction? One is a clone, the other is Spoony's split personality. I see no contradiction here.

Hey Lewis,

First time commenting on your blog. I loved the use of the plothole to explain Mechakara & Dr. Insano, but there's still one thing I'm confused about.

Is there any particular reason Orlando is back, other than he's a fair actor? It seems ridiculous to put him in this when he played Malachite - this wouldn't be an issue except EVERYONE keeps referencing Malachite and Suburban Knights!

Do you know why this is? Is he really just playing this pussycat pencil-pusher & not Malachite? The plot hole stuff is ingenious but it doesn't explain why no one would recognize Malachite's precise twin, especially when so many other characters from Suburban Knights (Last Angry Geek for example) are being remembered for what they did.

Yeah, that's pretty much it - that he's a good actor. XD

He's also one of the masked goons of Turrell.

I find it extremely amusing, that no one of Linkaras fellow reviewers notices the most obvious things, like the distorted voice.

I mean - the very threatening posture and look, yes, that could be Linkara having a terrible day, maybe after re-reviewing BND and OMIT.

But the very metallic-voice, and I am not even talking about his agressive pattern of speach, but about the really obvious thing, that is the voice...

by the way, why doesn't he try to immitate Linkara - he can, we saw this in the Review, where he "got into an argument with his oven" or something like that.

Is it, because Mechakara sees Linkaras fellow reviewers for as dumb as they really are, so he figures "No one will give a crap"?
Or does he actually want to get caught?

Somehow I doubt that, after his Terminator-like appearance in the first part... by the way, that could be the answer to my question - I think, he is affected by the Plot-Hole as well, because if he would not be, it would not be necessary to seek out other "Linkara-like" persons and attack them.

So - all in all: Interesting concept, I am more than curious to see how it will all play out.

We will see that in two days. ^^

"What contradiction? One is a clone, the other is Spoony's split personality. I see no contradiction here."

...Okay, seriously, do we have to go through this again? The ONLY place where Dr. Insano is explicitly Spoony's split personality is Kickassia. It COULD be the case in all of his other videos, but I honestly doubt that (Not to mention, if Insano WAS Spoony's split personality the whole time, why would Insano have WANTED Squall to kill Spoony if he was a split personality, and thus, he would've been killed too?).

Not to mention, the contradiction (that Insano was Spoony's split personality in Kickassia, but not anywhere else, including here) was pointed out in THIS VERY VIDEO. Were you not paying attention?

That video that "explains" Insano's continuity is NOT CANON, because it was not made by Spoony. It IS the only way you can make Dr. Insano make sense, but frankly, no one really cares, not even Spoony.

Then again, you're not one to care about what the CREATORS OF THE VIDEOS intend for their videos. No, you think you understand the plot of That Guy with the Glasses videos better than anyone else, Mr. Exiled One.

Hmm...

The Ghostbusters part wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. It did feel a bit like an outright rip-off, and I would have appreciated a different musical choice. Plus, it just feels a bit dissonant using that piece in context with the rest of the scene.

Acting, as usual, was all over the goddamn map. Brad was great as always, but Spoony was halfway decent and Doug wasn't bad either. And while I didn't mind 8-Bit Mickey's acting, I did think the joke went on a bit too long - also, dear god, that mustache is distracting.

My big complaint comes with the sound mixing - particularly during the Dr. Insano scene, it really stood out how inconsistent the audio was. It was bad enough to be distracting, that's for sure.

As to the plot - ugh, I get what they're going for in terms of how bloody 'meta' everything is, but I really can't say that I like it when they use elements like 'the plot hole' to cover up inconsistencies. Take Mechakara's voice - if we tie in Linkara's continuity to some extent, then someone should remember that Mechakara can disguise his voice to sound like Linkara's. The fact that he doesn't and nobody noticing is explained by 'the plot hole' just doesn't sit well with me. If anything, I'd prefer that Linkara try to convey Mechakara's menace via acting rather than a voice effect.

I don't know, there's a very fine line with meta-commentary on a story, and I think it's very hard for a story to do it well without tripping over itself. I think the first part did it better than the second, and that's ultimately a contributing factor to why I like Part 1 a bit more than Part 2.

Lewis Lovhaug said...

I didn't notice the audio inconsistency AS much, but that's probably because I've seen the rough cut, wherein the Insano voice kept blowing out the mic. It really was necessary to redub it.

To quote the movie "Analyze This": "Take a chill pill, Jarkes! Take a chill pill!"

First of all, I've never seen any video or vlog declaring Insano's backstory to be non-canon. Quite the opposite, in fact, given that Lewis himself said that all Anniversary Specials are canon.

Second, this isn't Star Wars or Star Trek or even Buffy. This isn't some sort of grand, epic storyline with a rigid canon. It's just a bunch of videos about nerds reviewing crappy media. Once you start yelling "THIS ISN'T CANON!", it's a sign that you are taking this WAY too seriously. To borrow words from "Mystery Science Theater 3000":

"Jarkes, if you are wondering how this fits into canon or not, just repeat to yourself: 'It's just a show, I should really just relax'."

Third, if you want an explanation why Insano's backstory wasn't followed on in any other video...it's because of the effects of the Plot Hole. Simple as that.

Jonathan M said...

I justify all dubbing as the Plot Hole f**king with spacetime. I really give you guys too much credit, but it makes the videos more enjoyable to sort of come up with my own explanation.

Jarkes said...

"First of all, I've never seen any video or vlog declaring Insano's backstory to be non-canon. Quite the opposite, in fact, given that Lewis himself said that all Anniversary Specials are canon."

I was mainly referring to that one video some guy made (forgot his name), compiling all of Insano's appearances (up to a certain point) and trying to make sense of the continuity (since it can be a little confusing at times). I thought that that was the video you used as your reasoning for certain aspects.

But you're right of course. It's pointless to debate about the continuity Then again, if people didn't debate about meaningless things such as the continuity of internet review shows... well, this wouldn't be the internet, now would it? ;)

I mean, really, you should see the debates I get into on other sites...

Though the impression I got from Insano's speech in this video is that, yes, the Plot Hole has something to do with his own particular continuity snarl, but because time isn't a straight line, the stuff from Kickassia about Insano being Spoony's alter ego is the real continuity error.

So, I've never posted on this little blogspot before and I certainly only watch Linkara somewhat regularly. Before I comment though, I want to make it clear that I am not trying to flame or bring negativity.

Part Two to me seems relatively "filler" in terms of actual plot development. Three major things were achieved in this episode; the murder of Prick (whose name I didn't even know until the Emperor Palpatine ripoff said it), the gathering of all of the reviewers together and the blast off of the somewhat decent special effects house.

Apart from that, it was all references and jokes that mostly fly over the head of someone that doesn't watch that much Sci-Fi or Ghostbusters. Other people on other comments have also rightly pointed out the balance of roles in the movie, Spoony has three roles in the film Doug has two and Linkara has been effectively been reduced to the Mechakara character which is setting up an obvious role later in the film.

Ultimately the entire message of the film is that plot-holes exist. I liked the fact that Ma-ti died in Suburban Knights because it gave it some sense of accomplishment, a sense that something had changed. This whole story in "To Boldy Flee" is making Suburban Knights pointless. Just my two cents.
