We interrupt the Cry for Justice review with something with worse art but a more entertaining story involving robots!

I'm not sure if you'll read this comment so far down on the list. but here goes.

I really enjoyed the review, it sucks the comics got cancelled without the storyline being resolved. Your history of the power rangers series has got me totally into power rangers again so I'm really looking forward to the next part whenever it may come.

I've only been watching the tgwtg site stuff for a short time, I started on the critic & moved onto to the other members and I've watched a good chunk of vids so far but nowhere near everyone's and not really in order.

As a newcomer I've found it somewhat difficult to follow the storyline with the evil Mechakara since I've watched most of the vids out of order. It might be handy to have somewhere a video list with the storyline parts listed so newbs like me can see what videos we should watch in what order.

I know some folk will say that I should have watched them in order to begin with, but having watched some of NC's, Spoony's, the snob's and Joe's vids at random I wasn't expecting a storyline. I'm interested in actually watching all the right vids, I'm sure other newbies in the future will too so it's just a suggestion, not a criticism.

I particularly like Liz's part in the video, bless her I think she's very canny. (Canny is a northern British word I'm not sure how to translate into real English as I'm far too northern to realise I speak in gibberish most of the time. The closest I could describe it as is a mix of sweet/good natured/cute/lovely in a platonic way. Being canny is a good thing, I assure you it is not a veiled British insult, I am very tired as it's nearly 5am which is why I have babbled, trying to explain this one word, worried that you may think it's a bad thing instead of just trying to think of a different word. I'm sorry, I'm clearly sleep deprived.)

Yes!! Another Power Rangers comic! Oh my god how I love you. I knew we were gonna be in for a treat with this episode but I didn't expect it to be this awesome :D

Srly I loved everything. Mechakara, Judas Liz, Neutro, the gold staff, the new Linkara outfit, the morphing sequences and the epic fight music. All of it was amazing to watch ^^ If I did have to nitpick though, I thought the fights scenes coulda been better as well as certain camera shots. Plus I wanted to see more Judas Liz. But hey, you did what you could and I applaud that.

Now I'm really looking forward to the battle with Vyce ^^ I can only imagine what you have in store for us.

Btw, I'm totally gonna try to do a White Ranger Linkara cosplay for a future con now. I actually have the Gold Power Staff in my basement ;) Thanks once again for the inspiration Linkara. Keep up the great work!

About that PRZ/Youngblood crossover:
It was never reliced! NO it was NEVER reliced! There where a lot of project about youngblood including a Youngblood tv show (you can see advertisement in the Rob Liefeld's issue of DeathMate) as well as a Badrock movie that never came to be( the guy who wrote the sceenplay became the director of the last Twilight instalment...suddle) but they where scraped because... I have no idea, it was rummored because Rob was lazy other speculated that there was no money. But if you look at the sales figures: http://www.comichron.com/monthlycomicssales/1996/1996-10.html you will also notice that they also list the second issue of PRZ, even dough it was, like you said never reliced.

Seeing this video reminds me of the good times me and my friends were playing Power Rangers outside. Humming the song, kicking eachothers asses, dressing up.

I wish I could go back to those days, and I can with these video's. Thanks a bunch Lewis, great stuff =D

I fail to connect with the complaints about the fight scene. The fight/plot/extraneous content on Channel Awesome shows is always campy and wish-fulfilling. That's what I love about it! It gives us insight into the reviewers via the selection of fantasies they choose to live out. Things like sub-professional stuntwork are the stuff that endears it to us. It reminds us that what we are watching is the product of another fan of the subject matter. Sure, a fan with a popular internet show, but still just a fan like ourselves. (Maybe Linkara should take it as a compliment that people are holding his work to a higher standard? That his work is getting good enough to be raised into a different class?) And hey - it doesn't have to be professional to be awesome!

Also: Are people trying to level "you're a guy reading comic books and playing with toys" as an insult around HERE? I mean, on THIS show? Are they confused as to which program they're watching? This is the home of "Atop the Fourth Wall," "History of Power Rangers," and "You're Such a Card... Game"! Most of the people around here would take that as a compliment.

For what it's worth, I actually like the new costume. It looks like a powered-up version of Linkara's usual review gear. I was pleased to see him keep The Hat instead of going with a Power Rangers-style helmet. It does vaguely resemble Michael Jackson's Moonwalker outfit, which is no doubt hurting its iconicity. Still, I appreciated the nods to both Linkara's usual gear and the sorts of costumes super heroes wear. Which, this being a comic book review show, is the direction one would expect such a costume to take. And I'm always a sucker for the "white suit = glowing with power" trope.

The continuity nods were pure cake for long-time fans. The return of Neutro? The most satisfying and long-building "I am a MAN!" ever? All gleefully awesome. I was grinning through all of it. Though at the same time, there were so many such awesome bits that they began to blur together. One begins to wish this could have been strung out longer, so that each could have had its own day in the sun.

And the timing of this release unquestionably hurts its appeal. We're in the middle of the build-up to Lord Vyce's personal arrival. His ship is in orbit with super time-shields. Having Mechakara show up and start punching people is... anti-climactically distracting. And reducing MK to villain-of-the-week status does feel a little empty after he's already been a major villain with his own devious, complex plan. Still, playing this out before Vyce's arrival would definitely have been better pacing. (And no doubt having it be an extra comic that week instead of having its own week would get people to lighten up on their sense of entitlement.) I note that in Linkara's plot roll-up post, he placed it before the Cry For Justice review in continuity. As he's already stated, that's probably where it belongs.

In the final tally, though, I really enjoyed this episode. There is only one major thing I have to call it out on: Introducing Judas Liz in this video. Oh, I thought the character was fine, even if the realities of production did damage the editing of her scenes. But a major villain for another series was just introduced in a crossover, and a crossover that was posted as part of a different series, no less. Now people following Liz's reviews who don't follow At4W have to go find this issue- sorry, episode- if they want to keep up with her continuity! What's going to happen when the trades of The Foundry come out?!?

Mr Linkara

i Wonder, what are your honest toughts on the situation regarding the whole Homophobia Case regarding David Yost, in wich he sadi on an interview that he suffered from poor treatment because of him beign a gay man, and that the producers denied all of that.

Im actually surprised you havent said anything about it sir.

Okay, I think the new costume was interesting, but it was lacking something. Your new white outfit may include stuff from the Power Rangers, but it looks more like a white suit. This makes you seem like you have reached God Mode. There is not a problem with that, but if you are going to wear the white suit with the white hat (I think it's a bowler hat? Or is it a fedora...) anyway, if you wear those two things you need to include a cane. At least that's what I think. A white cane would make that outfit be just.... awesome.

Sorry for posting this again, wanted to be sure.

Here in Britain there was actually a Power Rangers Zeo magazine that ran for quite a while. I remember it being okay (I no longer have any issues of it), but the comics were kind of strange - the panels were numbered and in addition to the speech balloons there was a novel-style narration to every panel; the speech balloon to one character would say one thing and the narration would say another.

I don't know how well they hold up and how rare they are, but try tracking them down.

Is there any chance of you posting a download link or youtube video for the Wasserman composed fight theme?

I'd like to be able to hear it by itself without the rest of the fight sounds covering it. I'll understand if there are reasons why you can't but it would be cool.

Skipped through the end, but from the bits i saw it must have been kind of fun to produce that.

Anyway, for some reason i constantly got reminded to Dead Space when i saw the yellow ranger.

I think I actually read this issue long ago in a grocery store...So what is this? Smooth Criminal Linkara or The White Comic Reviewer?

I think this was very well done, both the review and the epic fight at the end. However, I do have to agree that Liz needed more screentime, cuz that girl is awesome, and it's a lot of fun seeing you two work together. (Not to mention the fact that you two are a ridiculously cute couple) Nevertheless, I quite enjoyed it. The White Linkara Ranger costume was extremely clever! ^_^

I have a question for you: When will you review an issue of the Hamilton Comics Power Rangers series that came before the Marvel versions?

See you later!

OMG!!! When you first showed the battalizer on the show, I remember commenting that you should take down Mechakara like that!!! I know it wasn't because of that post that you did that, but regardless that was a geek out moment for me!

This is even better than the first battle with Mechakara! The Neutro vs. Mechakara battle is one of my favorite action sequences ever.

This gets the bad-ass seal of approval!

Anyway, this is a good break from the travesty called Cry for Justice, kind of like a calm before the total shit-storm that occurs in the last half of that series. A shame there weren't any more issues of Zeo from Image.

Will Judas Liz show up on Atop the Fourth Wall again?

I don't know if I should do this now or wait until the next Power Rangers comic review as this review is a bit old. But what the heck.
I don't really know if you take requests or not but I've see a 'Power Rangers VS Beetleborgs' comic floating around the internet and I was wondering if you were aware of it and, if you are, have any plans to review it?

Don't listen to Stephen. The fight scene in general and especially the White Linkara costume was friggin' awesome!

Yes, Stephen, it was the height of self-indulgence. Just like Mechara, Linksano, the cardboard MST3K robot and pretty much everything else about this show! When has Atop The Fourth Wall NOT been about Linkara doing whatever the hell he feels like?

He's been using that dang Power Rangers dagger since practically the beginning, and if anything, "Morphing" into his regular brown coat and hat was a flaw which the white costume corrects!

Internet Reviewer!!!

I think this was the vid that cemented my like of the Power Rangers different theme musics. I thought it the first time when I saw the white costume and I still feel that way now-
That was so COOL!

It was an evolution of the first time Linkara morphed as 'Internet Reviewer'. (and my apologies if I'm miss using single quotes again).

There's something about Power Ranger Linkara that makes me wish I'd been more into the Ranger stuff years ago. Still don't think I can truly get into it retroactively but their music and morphing calls invokes a sense of excitement akin to Voltron forming so many years ago for me.

Liked the addition of Judas Liz, though confusing as to who she is to Mechakara. (Unless I missed something, which is very much not outside the realm of possibilities.)

And Ill fully admit these comments are being left with 'fan goggles' on. (There I go with the quote marks again.) So as far as being constructive I'm guessing they aren't very helpful but I wanted to share how much I enjoy the writing for your story lines and just the ideas for the show in general.

Anonymous said...

Linkara why didn't you use an I-mod against Mechakara?

Anonymous said...

U should say when u are morphed into a power ranger "I am a Power Ranger"
instead of "I am a man".
