Wait, so you are going to talk about Snyder's Swamp Thing or Moore's Swamp Thing? You should talk about Snyder's one since it goes hand in hand with this new Animal Man. Heck, they are brother and sister series!

Also, by the way, both of these stories have finally arrived at Rotworld, the big arc they've been building up for more than a year. If you are still following Animal Man or have started reading Swamp Thing (or are even still reading Frankenstein that is crossing over), what's your thoughts so far? Sure only the first issues for the arc are up, but I would still like to hear.

Also, good work as always on this show.

This is rather fascinating, as one of the few current comic titles you're covering in LotD. I've actually found a copy of the first trade collection at my library, and went right through it there. And I agree that it's a pretty impressive read.

BTW, your LotD intro actually runs longer than the Arrested Development theme.

So is this some kind of reverse discount? 2/5 reduced visual content due to being invisible? I'm still confused why full screen doesn't work with the right click drop down. The video is already as wide as it needs to be for my screen if it were all there to see.

I did end up going and watching on Blip. I didn't even see half of the views of the Daughter. I think the most disturbing shot was where she was deformed.

So this one is of the new run?

The video seems to cut off visually on our right though that doesn't affect the comic itself, just whenever the ghoul talks. It doesn't hurt the review but I figured I would let you know in case that was an issue you wanted to fix for your next video.

I'm having some issues displaying this episode. It plays, as does the ad, but on three different browsers the video is cut in half with no way to make it full screen.

Older videos play just fine, though I notice this newest one has the new interface for Blip. Haven't had problems previously with the Blip updated player.

I'm using Windows 7 and browsers Firefox, Opera and Google Chrome. No idea if this is affecting others. Feel free to delete this comment as I'm just trying to give a heads up.

The alignment of this video is inverted somehow; it stretches vertically instead of horizontally, so only part of the video can actually be seen. The version on Blip works fine though.

And for the record, wow, that comic is fascinatingly horrific; maybe I'll check it out the next time I go to the comic book store. Wonder why they wanted to reboot Animal Man as a horror comic, though.

the video player has come out weird, it's really large and part cut off.

Is there something wrong with this video for anyone else? It's oddly zoomed in. Anyway, amazingly ironic choice. I'm catching up on New 52 and I was just about to start the Dark today with Justice League Dark, Swamp Thing, and Animal Man today.

Um, is there a way to watch the embedded video properly (without a chunk of the picture and menus, most annoying the part that turns on fullscreen)? Because it's a pain to have to go to Blip to actually watch the episode.

Good episode, but I think it was sized wrong or something. I'm enjoying Long Box.

Also will there be another session of Blood Eagle.

OK, this genuinely surprised me
mostly because the story is still ongoing
Animal Man is one of those comics where every single issue leaves me craving for more, impatiently waiting for the next month to come by (the others being Swamp Thing, New Guardians, Wonder Woman, and Dial H)

And I'm looking forward to Swamp Thing
I wonder whether you pick the Alan Moore run or the current one by Scott Snyder

I seem to be having some problems with the player. It's not scaled right and I can only see about half the video. Anyone else seeing it, too?

Another excellent Longbox of the Damned...but I have to ask, in case it is just me. The video was...off. The vid player is quite large and half of it is out of sight. Is this just me or on your blog? Otherwise, very creepy and awesome.

Whoa, I didn't expect Animal Man to be that but I like originality in Horror stories so this looks unique.

And the daughter seems to bhe a living version of the Pet Semetary from well, Pet Semetary with the only difference being that the animals don't kill people. And is it me or at 3:14 the daughter's head looks like Michael Myers?

Um, I think there's is something wrong with the video. I can only see half of it and that half is enlarged somehow, making it impossible to watch.

Animal Man, Swamp Thing, and All-Star Western are proof that the new 52 isn't ALL bad. Just . . . kinda mostly bad.

For some reason the video is to large for the window. I can only see half the picture. Not sure if that's an issue with Blip TV or an error on your part, no offence, but I figured you'd like to know.

I'll probably won't be the first to comment here, but just in case I'm the only one with this problem:

The left part of the video can't be seen and the button below bar does not appear.
(Sorry for the unprofessionality. xD)

*Shrugs* It's exactly 30 seconds long.

Sorry, accidentally put the wrong embed code up. XD

How hard was it timing the intro video to the music? Did you do multiple takes and hope one of them would reach thirty seconds or mentally count or something?

Actually, I did the count
I counted down all the titles I don't like / don't care about, and the titles I do enjoy, and I must announce that the New 52 is indeed mostly good!
Mind you, I do have some controversial tastes (as a child of the 90s, I feel strong love towards the likes of Red Hood, Suicide Squad, and Red Lanterns), but then there are the likes of Animal Man, Swamp Thing, All-Star Western, Demon Knights, Justice League Dark, Frankenstein, as well as huge chunks of the Batman and Green Lantern products that most of us here can agree are pretty damn sweet
sweet

I loved this book so freakin much. It freaked me out and I lvoed the characters so much. I was worried for all of them, still am given what I've seen happen. It made me pick up the Swamp Thing trade and I love that too. Now Frankenstein and his monster buddies are involved in the crossover too! Actually, Frankenstein got me interested in picking up Animal Man when the Rot appeared in there as well.

I can't stand not knowing what's gonna happen next! I really can't! I wanna know how they're gonna resolve the Arc and if Maxine is gonna be okay and if Frank gets back to Nina, damn it DC please make more issues soon! You're killing me here!

I can tell you one thing as soon as Animal Man Volume two pops up it's mine. Same with Swamp Thing. I love these books so friggin much!

Great review! I love both Jeff Lemire and Animal Man! If you ask me, every title of the Dark imprint is awesome (except for Phantom Stranger, for now).

Arianne said...

Oh, I'll add Animal Man to my list of comicbooks to hunt down. I'm looking forward to the Swamp Thing showing up.

The best of the New 52. All I'm gonna say, and it doesn't even freak me out as a horror book, it's just a great book period.

Damn, I wish I could roll my "R's" like that.

This comic is one of a very few comics that I've ever read that I actually found disturbing so it did it's job well in that regard. I loved your closer on this review.

Kinda surprised that Animal Man is such a dark horror comic. On the DC Nation shorts it's played as super light-hearted comedy (though, most of the shorts are).

BTW I noticed you've worked a bit more analysis into this episode. I don't know if that was in response to the comments on earlier episodes or if you just had it written that way, but Kudos either way.

Very good episode, and a very good comic series. I've read Volume 1 and 2, and the story just gets better.

I love this series-these are my kind of comics. :D

Quick question though: Is Moarte a ghoul, a vampire, or what?

"Quick question though: Is Moarte a ghoul, a vampire, or what?"

Ghoul is definitely how I'd describe him. Not a vampire at all. He is neither living nor dead, at the very least, though.
