I agree that this origin story is pretty weird. I've seen the Ghost Rider movie and I think it's one of the weakest superhero movies I've ever seen. (I still haven't seen the sequel) I guess those movies are best recommended to fans of Nicolas Cage and his off-the-wall performances. (Ask Brad!)
Didn't know it was that easy to get rid of him. lol
now I'm thinking about that crossover episode with him & the hulk lol
Yea i read this one and I thought that ghost riders origin was kind of wired to.
Pretty nice and entertaining review, and like Killdozer I think a portion of the jokes are pretty legitimately funny.
Also how could I see the "selling your soul jokes" coming even before I know you were even gonna review Ghost Rider. I guess I shouldn't be surprised seeing how Moarte cursed and the freaking title of the show had "damned" ,but whatever.
Man I just realize, people in the Marvel Universe make deals with the Devil (or in other cases Mephisto or other demons) for the most nonsensical/weirdest of reasons. If that's the case, He'll must be like the Starbucks of plot convieances.
Wasn't this the 70s? I think just about everyone was making deals with the Devil back then. ;)
Oh now here's something I'm familiar with all too well. Though the origin story, whoa. Confusing is the more appropriate word.
I remember being introduced to him via The Incredible Hulk-90's cartoon. I was confused as to who the hell was he. And I saw the trailer for the movie when I went to see The Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Beginning. I wasn't interested in that and the sequel. I tended to think Cage was too old to play Johnny Blaze to be honest.
nice to see Marvel "heroes" were pathetic dumbasses even back in the day
I know this has nothing to do with the comic, but I don't have twitter. Bruce Campbell confirms sequel to Army of Darkness!

I'm guessing, based on the tone of this review, that a future Secret Origins Month review is on the docket, 4 years or more down the line. And also: Hard to believe the first movie's origin portion is probably a substantial improvement on this. It has other (massive) problems and the origin portion is still bad but they, at least, TRIED to make something better.
Nice They Might be Giants reference. That's actually my favorite song by them, so I liked hearing the reference (sadly, it being Longbox, I knew that didn't mean you'd also play it in the credits or something like you would on the main show).
I also wanted to say I'm not so hot about the Essential collections. I don't like anything that takes away the color from something that was originally put out in color (and I don't like anything that recolors or re-letters or the like, either, but that doesn't apply to Essentials).
And nice 70s Marvel. Ghost Rider is an interesting character and an awesome visual, but his origin is kind of all over the place, like Marvel at the time would do.
Yeah, that whole part about him swearing to never ride again wasn't really necessary. It's not like his adopted father could've died in a normal traffic accident or something - or fall down the stairs.
I didn't get what "They Might Be Giants" song some of the other comments were talking about, but I recently discovered "Particle Man" on YouTube XD
